As I've looked around I've noticed a few sites that
have LOADS of downloadable Enka.  You may of
course have heard of several of these artists, but
if anyone asks me, these names come to mind.
Thanks for the recommendations! I'm gonna have to check out all those artists as I haven't heard their music before. I don't have any old Japanese music besides some "Pinky Violence" movie music so I definitely need to add some kick ass enka to my music library :)

Speaking of blogs with juicy mp3s, I found the following site yesterday.
Its not Enka, and aside from TT's songs these are 60s music tracks
(from China, Taiwan?) and well worth a listen!  Looks to be about
8 tracks   :twothumbs
Thanks for the link! By the way, if you're interested in Chinese music from the 1930s then I'd recommend you to check this out: http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?topic=18889.0

Thanks for the link Masa,

But I meant to ask you regarding this (and your Keiko Fuji link)
if I need to have a Megaupload subscription in order to
download?

No, you don't need a subscription. Just enter the code they give you and wait for 45 seconds :)

This is technically from the 70s and 80s but I thought I'd post it here...I hope Dan doesn't mind

Takada Mizue - Best Collection

Takada Mizue debuted in 1977 after becoming the 18th Grand Champion on the Fuji TV audition show "Kimi Koso Star Da!," and had several hits including "Garasuzaka" and "Watashi wa Piano." In 1985 she retired to marry the sumo wrestler Wakashimazu. Their wedding was broadcast live on TV and had the high rating of 30.2%. Currently she and her husband run the Matsugane sumo stable.

I got this best album off of Soulseek and I recommend it to anyone interested in 70s/80s idols - Mizue has a very pretty voice.

1. Garasuzaka
2. Purple Shadow
3. Dream On Dream
4. Seishun II
5. Shiokaze no Melody
6. Komoriuta o Kikasete
7. Watashi wa Piano
8. Namida no Jiruba
9. Yume Densetsu
10. Ai no Owari ni
11. Junai Sagashi
12. Sonna Hiroshi ni Damasarete
13. Shuutou

I totally agree - combining those two decades wouldn't be a bad idea, but
I'd especially love a thread that focused on the 1970s.
[There are some blogs out there that have TONS of 80s material (I'll post a
link later this week) - but I haven't found any that focus on the 70s and
there are so many awesome artists that peaked around that time!

I gotcha on the 70s.  Again, I'll rip a few of my tunes and upload later.

Any artists in mind?  I have a bunch from the early-to-mid seventies, mostly the poppy idol stuff: Saijo, Go Hiromi, a few singles here and there.  Finger 5 anyone?

Petite M'Amie - Girl Friend / Baby Doll (1971)

DOWNLOAD

Tracklist
01. Girl Friend
02. Baby Doll
03. Splendor
04. Pardon
05. Cry
06. Make-Love
07. Prologue
08. Drive
09. Coffee
10. Wine
11. Shower
12. Date-Time

The final instalment in Tiliqua’s utterly essential ‘Erotic Oriental Sunshine’ series of re-issues, ‘Girl Friend Baby Doll’ moves in a markedly different direction from its predecessors. Although still adorned by the image of an angelic and scantily clad Japanese beauty, the disc is somewhat less overtly sexual than the others, focussing more on a childlike and hushed mood; giggling and whispering rather than groaning and screaming. However the more you listen to the album with these quite peculiar, sometimes goofy vocals paired with some downright funky Euro-sleaze instrumental parts the more insane a it begins to sound. I mean, it’s erotic but it’s just not quite as blatant as say, Ike Reiko, it’s shrouded in a veil of naivity which only serves to make it that much more odd. Apparently Petite M’amie (aka nudie actress Mari Keiko) wanted the album to be much more obviously erotic but the producer was dead set on that shy girl angle, which unsurprisingly still seems to be the order of the day in Japan (vending machines selling used panties?). The truth is though, for all its odd sentiment and somewhat dubious morals this is an absolutely killer release, somewhat comparable in style to the crucial re-issues of the Finders Keepers label, with exotica production and a vibe closer associated with the French New Wave than with Japanese music from 1971.

Hi Saburo, actually, I've got a good-sized list of 70s artists I'd love to hear
more of - I'll drop some names by here tomorrow.  Maybe Masa will have time this
week to start (yet another!) page, heh.

A collection of TV & Radio themes from the 50's - 70's.

09. "Nisshin Myouji Tobidasu" no Theme / Funaki Kazuo
I know this is a bit of a long shot, but does anyone here happen to have any further information regarding the show where this track comes from?  Google was of little help for the title, only the artist.

If you google the name of the show in Japanese (日真名氏飛び出す - the kanji is in the text file within the download) you get better results.

I got both songs from youtube.  :) Lots of people upload audio and if you download the mp4 version it's 128kbps stereo, then I just convert to wav, chop off any excessive silences at the start and end and adjust the volume if necessary.  I'd romanised the 2nd track totally differently until I saw how it'd been romanised on the pic.

BTW, I think there is still interest in gettinga 70s/Kayokyoku thread

Assuming you have a photo on your hard drive, go to www.tinypic.com and select the photo and upload.  (If the photo is really big select one of the resize options from the dropdown menu so it doesn't stretch the page when you post it.)
When it uploads it gives you a link to the photo.  Choose the last one ("Direct Link for Layouts") and copy and paste it into your forum post and surround it with image tags so it looks like this
[img*]http://www.whatever.com/yourpic.jpg[/img*]
except without the stars, I only did that to stop the forum trying to display it as an image.
So you don't have to keep typing the image tags you just need to click the image icon.  When you're writing a post there's a bunch of icons above the text box where you write your post, the image one is the first one on the second row, to the left of the one showing a little pic of the world.
