I finally got a chance to watch Frozen yesterday, and it went above and beyond my expectations. I wasn't really expecting much to be honest, not really quite sure why. It will take a lot for a film with 3D animations to impress me, but this one had a lot of heart despite the glossy finish.
The musical numbers were spectacular, and I really enjoyed how the film played pretty much like a Broadway musical. I can imagine Disney doing a stage version of Frozen in the future.
Apparently the fictional city of Arendell is inspired by Norway's Arendal - which is a town along the southern coast of Norway. I wonder how they localised the town name in the Norwegian dub, because calling it Arendell or Arendal would make no fucking sense
It also doesn't help that the only thing I associate with Arendal is a joke song from a 90s sketch show where this comedy duo made fun of the dialect they speak in Arendal xD;
I haven't read the H.C. Andersen fairytale that Frozen is based on, but I like that it's possible to read a lot of things into the story, I think Elsa and her struggles will help a lot of kids who are struggling with depression and anxiety - there are so many emotional moments in this film, and I found a lot I could relate to, whether I wanted to or not.
Olaf could easily have become an extremely annoying gimmick, but I think they paced the gags out pretty well. A great sidekick to have around. I wonder if he'll make an appearance as a fur character in the parks now, I can imagine the Norway section at Epcot going absolutely Frozen crazy at the moment
