This week's episode... meh. The fight was slightly cooler than what has gone on this season, but the usual comments still apply unfortunataly. Low quality script and even lower quality delivery make for a kinda frustrating watch. I was excited to see on Google+ that Churi was going to be in the episode, and she was... for five seconds. And yeah, the story behind why Miyu is there and why this "prison" is such a huge deal is ridiculously underexplained for how overplayed it's becoming.

Quote
The way they talk about the prison, it's like it's alive

If the prison suddenly did this, and Paru was to eat a Mario mushroom and do battle with it, it might just liven things up.

The reason why Miyu is with the prison has got to damn good if she killed (what apparently was) her "one true love" Keita over it. I mean she has been close to Keita since they were young (?), and at the time were she is about to kill him she isn't wearing the bracelet, so wouldn't it be more rational for her character to warn him, suggest they run away or basically anything except following orders and stab him down in cold blood.

It also feels pretty unnecessary to throw in that bit about him wanting to reveal the prison or whatever when they already have a reason to kill him (to get Paru thrown in jail). That just opens up alot of more questions like, how did he find out? Did Miyu tell him and if so, doesn't that mean she trusts him and so on.

Sigh, goodbye chance of season 3 being any good. This storyline is just all sorts of wasting the characters. Not to mention that we've had so many episodes without one proper fight, so there's never been any feeling of stakes until now, over halfway through.

Of course, it still has a chance of being better than season 2, as the writing and execution of this retarded storyline is still better done than the entirety of season 2,(minus the NezCen, of course) even if the concept is about as shitty.

The neverending threat to S3 getting any better, of course, is the acting. XD Exceptions: everyone in Mongoose other than Miyu. Also, JURINA WHOOOOOOOOOOO THIS POST NEEDS MORE JURINA SPAZZZZZZ
Seriously, has there ever been anyone in all three seasons as bad as Paruru in acting? (Well, okay, technically Abe Maria comes close, but at the same time she's better in that she portrays an actual character and emotions, whereas Paruru is completely a blank slate at all times.)

Oh shit, they seriously put child molestation AND suicide into this thing with Nobunaga's backstory!? Them late night shows, eh? (Still remember the time they had porno mags with clear nipples visible in Mendol)

Also, this "kill people by punching them forever" thing is stupid. If you really wanted to kill someone in hand to hand, you wouldn't be hitting them in the face with your fist. You don't even need fucking bricks. You don't use punches to the face to incapacitate someone for the killing blow, either. Writer fails at basic fighting knowledge. All they needed to do to properly continue suspension of disbelief while keeping the punch-fest to make time for all of the monologuing would be a short line justifying punching, like Paru getting satisfaction out of it, or wanting to inflict equal pain as she feels from the heartbreak, etc.

LOL LOOK AT ALL OF THE CAMEOS! LOLCHURI SMILING THROUGH YOUR LINE

Lol, was Miyu roommates with Annin?

Oh snap, Peace is re-jected! (You gotta wonder what her roommate dynamic was like with Nobunaga, though, given the way she strongly latched onto Paru.)

OH SHIT, NOBUNAGA and ANNIN HAVE HISTORY!  :w00t: I fucking ship it already.

Yeah, I was thinking about that a bit. I just can't get past my own damn biased views on Peace (Yuria) so I can read the situation clearly, and I'm most likely reading waaaay to much into her character. But I have this feeling she is going to betray Paru/Habu at some point. Reasons..

1. The way she can just get stuff out of nowhere.
2. She was rooming with Nobunaga, somehow it would fit if she betrayed Nobunaga or something similar. At least something must have happened with this (?).
3. There has been a few times (like at the end of this recent episode when she got rejected) were she gave Paru this look. I don't know, the camera just lingered a little too long and the expression on her face made her look a little evil intentioned.

Now, this is just a loosely based theory. Very loosely. It's just a feeling I get, but it could of course just be because she is my oshimen I'm reading to much into her appearance in this. In fact that's the most likely thing. Perhaps someone can shatter this theory to pieces for me.

I know I wouldn't mind that.

At least I think Maria's character is all around awkward, I just can't help but laugh every time I see her trying to pretend to be cool. Probably just me but I keep likening Paru to a mannequin, she even stands like one maybe she's really a robot

Also, this "kill people by punching them forever" thing is stupid. If you really wanted to kill someone in hand to hand, you wouldn't be hitting them in the face with your fist. YES THIS THIS if it was one thing that bothers me the most, it's the fighting. At the beginning it was okay but steadily it just got more and more repetitive, episode 5 was good since Messi & Yagi obviously fought smart and dirty, that was a great change up but now we're back to square one. Plus, they wear all these little accessories and NO ONE goes for the damage with those, seriously?!

It's a prison for cheese's sake, you're obligated to fight cheaply. :|

Also, waiting for Nobunaga to break out of her prison chair and fuq shiz up; Annin is my hope for some excitement back in this show.

No matter how you look at it, there is no way S3 can ever be better than S2

^Okay, so the fighting in S2 has been better. I'll give you that. (Although the lack of damage from getting smacked by fucking pipes is just as bad as the punch-fest)

But story-wise, S3 is tighter, actually gives us character motivations that make sense, character motivations that relate to each other and the prison setting, consistent character developments for most of Habu and Mongoose, and most importantly, stakes! Previous seasons only had this vague concept of "being the top" driving everyone to fight, but here you have life or death stakes for these fights! There's no walking away from it, either, because it's not a school where you can hide out in the city and avoid campus, but a locked setting where no one can leave.

Also, S3 has the advantage of having, like, negative expectations. I didn't even notice how shitty the fighting was until this ep because I had no expectations that anything would be worth noticing, including the fights. But my hopes for the season have been increasing the past few episodes, so I started paying attention to more, and they really shoved the punch-fest into our faces this ep until I couldn't just ignore it.

Episodes for each season can be summarized as thus:
S1: Team Hormone hypes up baddie of the week, Maeda defeats them. Maeda becomes more and more ideal to succeed Yuko.
S2: I don't know what the fuck will happen, but it will be disappointing.  And another S1 character is going to get nerfed.
S3: A new challenger appears!!! Habu are ineffectual. Paru defeats the newcomer. This increases Habu's loyalty to Paru.

But! Since J has come back. What if Rena does too for the end-game?
Game-Master Prison-Master Rena. Wearing a sexy red qipao and a tiger mask, fighting Paru in a mirror room.

ok. that's not gonna happen... :nervous ...till the movie!!! :P

jokes aside. I think S3 has already done its job just like past seasons. Getting ppl to know the new 48 members.
Compared to other recent night jdramas with the same theme like Shiritsu, Kurohyo 2 and Clover, MG3 has so far been pretty good with characters/story/action. It's nothing award winning, but at least its solid.

As for the criticism. I know it's all coming from guys who want to see the show improve.
Yeah, ppl hated S1 when it was on. But it made all the great characters.
ppl hated S2 when it was on because it was going all fan-service but basically changed everything we liked about it. And the story was like noodles.
And ppl hate S3 now cos it's like Battle Royale 2. With ppl thinking WTF happened to the whole premise (you'know, the good one with schoolgirls hitting each other. umm, at school). But when the show ends, they'll still want a S4.
It's cool to hope it'll get better. Course, with a 3rd person view we can see a million ways to improve it. It's totally different for the guys that are working hard to crank each episode out.

Ep 9 potential SPOILERS:

- Anna beating the crap out of Paru  :thumbup I like it when the protagonist isn't invulnerable. I also like unexpected endings, but I doubt we'll get one in this series.
- J breaking out is pretty cool. Maybe she can spice up the final episodes a bit more.
- Last supper looked pretty cool. I guess Miyu already betrayed them. lol

And Episode 9 came and went...

There is three episodes left, so they better pick up the pace. We can most likely be sure about not seeing much Habu vs Mongoose (with the other members).

It's weird how they divide the focus of the show between their fight with Mongoose and their struggle with the Prison, yet nothing is moving forward.  :smhid

Hah, do I sense Annin forcing Miyu to drop the soap in the near future?

oh man, time for another session of Jurina squee? 8D

And here comes from the usual Team Exposition hype! Kuumin and Maria being awesome, hah.

Dawwww, ObaShimada leadership duo! <3

Well, I gotta say that the main breakout characters this season are definitely Annin and Juri. In terms of best rookie acting of the season, Annin wins hands down, definitely, but Messi has quite of bit of charisma as well.

LOL, so Jurina is just so fucking irresistable that no matter what character she takes it turns into yuri with her main interaction partner. First Nezumi, now Annin. Gotta love it. I FUCKING SHIP IT. Man she was flirting with the girl with seductive husky voice so much. *goes to jail*

Shit son, Annin is so much a better Sado-equivalent than Oba! Both in terms of presence and acting believability. Glad they're giving her so much screentime now.

Well, it looks like the writing has improved back to best-MG-season-potential again. Feeling optimistic again after the last two episodes' shit.

Fuck, I was kind of hoping Paru would be going down so we could get eps showing Habu finally becoming competent.

Insert more Jurina squee here.

Paru-Annin fight lasting two episodes. THE OTHER CHARACTERS ARE BEING WASTED. D: (But it's still better than season 2.)

Yeah there might not be enough time or even a reason for a Habu vs Mongoose brawl now.

Team Mongoose really is pretty well made. All members having a likeable and distinct character.
Not too powerful to be able to smash Habu to the ground, but just enough of an advantage to be bad-ass. Too bad they didn't show up straight at the start.
Annin's cool and calculating chara, with her honor to group survival really does resemble Sado a lot.

With Paru hurt so bad, will she even be any use in the last few episodes. Mongoose starting the revolt next episode might actually cause the whole group to fall. Leaving Habu to save the day.
And the end-fight. Another Annin vs Paru, Annin vs J, Paru vs J, a 3-way, or maybe a Paru vs Yuria?
Probably none of the above and they'll all just hug and go their own ways just like past seasons...

majigaku 2 was my fave season, but maybe 3 will surpass it. it gets better every ep, i dont mind the acting, and then jurina's comeback as nobunaga... yeah instant win for me. but will nobunaga appear since she broke out? i think she will. and more on peace will be revealed?

I'm starting to lose interest since there's not going to be Habu vs Mongoose. Should have guessed the prison break storyline...

It's a prison after all

I don't know how I thought about the fight, it was... okay. It was okay. It looked like a pair of friends just fighting... Well... personally, to me. I thought it was "cute" how Paru and Annin did that at the end of the fight, although it resulted to Team Mongoose losing and kept in a cage.

Though now... did the lady say they have to versus each other now? I'm not sure, I don't understand Japanese that well. (Surprised that I understood enough of it to understand the entire episode.) I frankly have no comments for that. None at all. Is she trying to find more possible "cleaners" or is she trying to prolong the battle so she can "awaken" Paru?

But I loved the part where Nobunaga came into the picture. The part where she stared at the camera before bringing out some unknown device before pressing the button was nice. I mean, I somewhat liked the part where she slowly said, "Prison... Hope." Ladyhasbeenfuckedoverthehead. Because I think I spotted Jurina smile slightly while beating one of the guards, I have to assume Nobunaga was enjoying that. LOL.

I've been realizing that they're making some of the members actually drop by themselves without the mattress-like things (mn... I don't know what they're called...) now for some scenes? Like for the last episode, Annin spin-kicked Paru's legs, and actually had her fall by herself (so this kind of surprised me). And then in this scene they had Paru fall backward because Annin pushed her body back while she was down. Are they not using those mattress things or is this just some awesome program where they can hide the fact that they used a mattress without hiding it behind the camera? LOL....

I'm not sure, I don't understand Japanese that well.

Subtitles for episode 10 are out  :thumbup

Random thoughts:
- The fight between Paru and Anna was unconvincing and thus pretty uninteresting.
- This was the best shot during the first 20 minutes or so:

- I think the Prisoners VS Jail twist might actually work out much better than the two teams fighting each other. It makes a lot more sense and they can work towards a proper ending of the season.
- Treatening to kill yourself with a knife doesn't make sense when you can just walk out of there and let the bracelet do its work. Or, if the bracelet is just a scam or it malfunctions than it works out even better, haha.
- I would have left Miyu locked up. She killed Keita and was a snitch. Screw her.
- Jurina pwned the ep in the 20 seconds she was in it. lol

Episode 10 was a decent ep. The fight between Paru and Anna was downright boring, though. The twist makes me anticipate episode 11. Leave it to Jurina to save the day. It will be cool to see the two teams pair up and kick some ass.

Maybe I'm just happy it's nearly over, too. lol

The action in the Paru/Annin fight sure ended being a letdown, especially considering it started so nice. At least that's one thing done in the checklist.
Metal Gear Jurina show-stealing again with her cool short scenes. :thumbup

I want the show to go longer now for all the wrong reasons... because Airin's fan-drawings are so damn good, she needs more episodes for resources.
