I can't believe I hadn't heard of this movie... it looks better than Dragonball, at least. Though I've never been a big fan of Chun Li..

Me and my brother are gonna try to see this on Saturday. I saw some talk show the other day where the guy who plays Bison was on there talking about how doing the movie was so cool. He said it was fun because they based Bison on Richard Branson.

I agree that "talent is more important than nationality", but it still kind of helps if they.. you know, stick to original nationality/ethnicity as much as they can, you know?

It's not like there are zero Chinese girls out there that would be good for this role.

But she's half chinese, so I see nothing wrong with kruek playing chun-li. They never said chun-li was full chinese in the first place.

The bigger problem is the movie itself.

^ welp there goes my expectations down the drain. next on the list: dragon ball! yay for westernized mediocrity! why do they even try? or are they trying to market to people under 13 years old? i bet i wouldve enjoyed this movie as a 10 year old, heck i kinda did with mario brothers and the original street fighter, lol.

^ Pretty much aimed at male tweens yeh, as is any game-to-movie adaptation. Fighting games are an odd genre to translate into movies for. They're not exactly renowned for their narratives are they? I only hope the Bioshock adaptation doesn't go the same route.

But then we all knew this wouldn't make a good movie anyway. I hope it means no more western SF movies. I mean, you'd probably get Tom Welling (Clark Kent in Smallville) being cast as Ryu.

Wooooooooooowwwwwwwww this movie is bad. It's way worse than I expected. Everything about it is just horrible. On the plus side, the woman who played Chun Li's mother, Emilze Junquiera, is hot. She looks really familiar, but I can't think from where.

Brutal comments from Rotten Tomatoes:

"The good news is that I only need 9 more movies for my 10 Worst List."

"I can't remember the last time I watched an actor fail to walk into a room convincingly, but Chris Klein does it. Look for a YouTube montage of his Street Fighter performance to pop up any day now."

"When Chris Klein yells "Bomb! Everybody Out!", he just as well could have been talking about this movie too."

"Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li is indeed terrible, but in kind of an awesome way."

"I much prefer the flamboyant badness of the '94 flick to the attractive, even-keeled mediocrity of this one. Jean-Claude Van Damme's stock just rose considerably."

"Chun-Li narrates much of it, and the dialogue would be excruciating if it weren't laughable in the way she describes what is blatantly occurring on the screen. If nothing else, the movie is an ideal one for blind viewers."

"As a fan of the video game series, I can honestly say that this is hands down one of the worst films I have ever seen. Chris Klein is so bad that he made the movie a comedy."

"It's bad. It's really bad. It's Uwe Boll bad."

OUCH! XD

I saw the movie last night with a few friends.  I haven't laughed that hard in a very very long time.  So in a way, it did a better job at entertaining me than most movies have, but not in the way it intended.   :pimp:

The boys on "The 404" podcast today said that it had a zero-percent rating on "Rotten Tomatoes" (since revised to maybe six percent?).  Remarkable.
