They are about to make their debut at a major label, so they deserve a thread! I can safely say that this is probably THE best band in the world. No kidding. The guitar and song writing skills by Hizaki and Teru are amazing. Kamijo's vocals may take some time to get used to, but at least he sounds different than most Visual Kei vocalist. Aside from the music, their appearance is truly epic!

Versailles bassist passes away

Visual-kei band Versailles suffered a sudden tragedy on Sunday. An announcement on the group's official website revealed that bassist Jasmine You died during the early morning of August 9. Jasmine You had been taking a break from the band due to poor health, though the band was continuing its activities without him. But with the sudden news of his death, the other members of Versailles have decided to put their activities on hold for the time being. More details will be revealed after the group gets more information and the consent of Jasmine You's family.

I was just staring at the screen in shock when I read this.. it's still kind of hard to accept. One of the things I loved about the band the most was that they were all so close and comfortable with each other.

As Shura pointed out, so is Hizaki. It's a great act, it goes far beyond the dress and make-up. As you can see in this pre-versailles era clip, also the headbanging, movement and expressions look feminine.

Did anyone see them at London today/yesterday??
Not a huge fan but did like quite a few of their tunes and I know quite a few people that went. I heard mixed reviews lol apparently the sound was too loud, just sounded like noise and the vocals couldnt be heard properly XD
I also heard Hizaki looked like a man! :O quite hard to believe lolol

I hope they get their sound right though... Children of Bodom had the same issue when I saw them some time ago, but that was because I was all the way in front. When I moved back a bit, the sound got a million times better.

2010-07-06
Around 2 PM I left for the train station. There was a mad cute Asian girl; neon pink shirt with blue/white checkered skirt. I noticed her mother was buying her a train ticket. She came up to her mother, snatched the ticket and walked away. Not even a single look or a goodbye. Her mother yelled something at her, but she just kept walking without saying anything or looking. Damn, what a bitch haha. She stood on the other platform with a massive attitude… Still hot though haha. Well, she went the other way and that’s the last I saw of her.
I arrived in Utrecht at about 4 PM. Met up with my friends, dumped my stuff there and we went to get some burgers. Got on the train to Amsterdam! It’s been a while since I’ve been. Not my favorite place, since it’s usual overflowing with tourists. However, The Netherlands were playing in the semi-final so there were massive crowds everywhere and the mood was good.
We headed for the venue. It’s a pretty new place, nobody knew about it before. Naturally, we walked the wrong way, but we eventually made it. About 100 people were already lined up. They looked like the typical Visual Kei fans; some more successful than others haha. The venue is about 400 meters from the train station, but some other acquaintance insisted on taking the metro. He got on the wrong one twice and he didn’t arrive until two hours later haha.
The website stated that the concert would begin at 8 PM. The doors opened at around 8.30 PM and they were very strict about age and bag checks, so the entire process to get everybody in took ages! Well, we made it eventually. The venue is crazy small! The podium was about 5 cm high… wtf! We were standing about 7th row. Lots of small fangirls in front of me, so that’s cool. I noticed there were hardly any Asian fans… not sure why. Everybody seemed to have gotten in, so let the concert begin! …or so we thought.
We had to wait another hour and half. Some people already got worried about catching the last train home and stuff and they hadn’t even begun playing! Finally, we could hear some sound checking sounds and a couple minutes later the lights went down and the intro music started! The intro music was really epic, same one as on the concert DVD. Then, the door opened and Yuki (dr) came on stage! Man, what awesome hair. Insane screaming by the fangirls haha. A minute later, Teru (gt) came out. He had some extra long blond extensions and a cape haha. His eyes were unreal… some weird lenses, but it looked totally epic. Another minute later it was time for o-hime sama to arrive! Hizaki took the stage!! Man, what presence… holy crap. Insane looking dress, glitters hair, big dark eyes… At this point everybody realized that they really are pretty short. This turned out to be a bit of a problem because the stage was crazy low as well. I had no problem seeing everything, because I was one of the taller people, but there must have been a lot of people who could hardly see anything. After Hizaki, Kamijo (vocals) came out and the place went maaaad. Holy crap, insane fangirls screaming their lungs out. Pretty awesome guy, also wearing bright lenses.
I browsed some bootleg footage of their London gig a couple days earlier, so I expected them to open with the opening track of the latest album ‘God Palace -Method of Inheritance-‘ but no! They opened with Aristocrat’s Symphony! Quelle surprise! As soon as they hit the first notes, the place went crazy. People were fighting for position to catch a glimpse of them. Luckily, I got pushed from row 7 to row 3! Awesomeness! They were all right in front me. I got a good look at Kamijo’s outfit and it’s much more open than it appears. Make sense, because it would be extremely hard to perform in outfits that are as huge as theirs are.
One thing that really surprised me is the level of interaction with the fans. They were hanging in the audience SO MUCH. You could touch them many times. Even Hizaki and Teru hung into the audience and they let the fans touch their hair, faces, guitars… insane! Unlike I’ve ever seen before. What trust to let your fans do that to you. Massive props. In addition, Kamijo actually gave fans individual attention; actually looking you in the eye, he petted some fangirls on the head, high fived some of the fanboys, gave hands… seriously impressive. During all the pushing I ended up right in the center of the stage, so I got plenty of interaction with Kamijo. Luckily, I also managed to touch Hizaki, which was a personal highlight of the evening haha. On a side note, they are TOTALLY hot for themselves. They totally get off on people wanting them haha. At one point I had to “no homo” the concert, because Kamijo gave me some weird expressions haha.
During one of their little intermission, someone from the balcony yelled that the Netherlands won the semi-final and the crowd all cheered. This was funny, because Yuki had an expression on his face saying “wtf are they screaming about” haha. Later, Kamijo came out and congratulated Holland. Incidentally, about 80% of the MCs were done in English! “I am happy.” “We have wonderful philosophy, open up your hearts.” Stuff like that.
This is about what I can remember from the setlist, not sure about the order either, but something like this anyway. I’ll try to find the correct one later:

Another strange thing. Serenade was not dedicated to Jasmine You. When the concert ended, they introduced themselves once more and Kamijo said something like that Jasmine is watching from heaven. The crowd yelled super loud. Was a nice moment, but that was the only time he mentioned Jasmine. There was a bass player. He mentioned his name, but nobody understood it. He looked pretty cool, but he didn’t came up to the crowd once. I’m not sure if it is that same temporary bass player as before…
Anyway, that’s about it as far as the concert goes. Super awesome. Amazingly tight playing and they made quite an impression. Afterwards I picked up a poster and bought a Versailles bag for my friend as thanks for letting me stay over. When we walked to the train station we came across hundreds of soccer fans celebrating. When we got back to Utrecht, we just missed the last bus home sow e had to walk for 30 minutes. Argh, I was already dead from the concert. We decided to walk though the city, which was of course also overrun by soccer enthusiasts. We stopped the Booth hill saloon rock café for a bit and then made our way home. Awesome, awesome day.
Highlights:
- Ai to Kanashimi no Nocturne: this song rocked so hard live, unbelievable.
- Touching Kamijo and Hizaki (no homo)
Downsides:
- Small ass podium; bad visibility for a lot of fans
- Some epic songs missing from the setlist; i.e. God palace and After Claudia.

edit: for the gear heads; Teru used this ESP Antelope and Hizaki used his red ESP Horizon III. Would've loved to see his white/gold one though. They used all Marshall amps, not the usual H&K Tri-amp for Teru or the Brunetti for Hizaki. Not sure which Marshalls though...

I saw them in London, and though it was pretty good! As mentioned before, they were a bit on the loud side and I struggled to hear at times, but I liked what I could hear at least. I love that they opened the tour with their longest song, which rocks hard live. Need to listen to some more of them!

I don't think they're as popular in Japan as they are everywhere else; I live in England though, so I couldn't tell you how popular they are over there.

They are at #8 today! So all is well. I guess the Versailles fans aren't the 'pre-order' types, but more the 'pick it up at the store' types.

^Definitely. I like how they both have their own tone and style. It's pretty easy to guess which one is doing a solo when you listen to a cd. It's also cool that Teru gets a lot of solos as well. Hizaki seems to be more famous and popular, but they Teru gets lots of cool parts as well. Both amazing musicians for sure.

But yeah, I also dig the regular cover. Type A seems to have the best content; concert footage!!
I prefer the Type A cover to Type B, so that's good. I haven't ordered it yet, because I'm waiting for some sort of CDJapan coupon promotion again, lol. On the other hand, I can't wait too long because I want that bonus poster. The waiting is killing me though. If I ordered it today I'd have to wait like 8 weeks before it's finally here :panic:

Philia entered the charts at 18. The #3 sold 2800 copies, which means Versailles is much lower.
Really disappointing, but it's understandable. I think the Visual Kei fans aren't the types to pre-order multiple copies and the Japanese fans have other things on their mind.

Just watched the Philia Type A DVD! Killer stuff, once again. I loved the instrumental section. It's amazing how tight they are. Teru's technical skills are through the roof.

Mixed feelings...
- Some parts remind me a lot of Dutch metal bands like Epica and After Forever
- It's lacking a 'key' melody... something which makes it instantly recognizable and catchy. Revenantt Choir, Princess, etc do have this.
- Cool bass parts, masashi is good :thumbup
- Guitar solo is sorta generic as well...
Some parts are connected in a strange way, I hope the album version will be at least 9 minutes :lol:

So far, i liked 'MASQUERADE'. It's really a beautiful song. But, after hearing the samples for the album, i'm a bit dissapointed too :smhid. Like haters always said "a lot of their songs always sounded similar in my ears", that's the point. They need to experiment more with their currently music. Put some Jazzy tone or Reggae riff for example or go back to indie era sound. Now I just hope the album as a whole will be better. :bow:

The album is better than I expected from the previews, but nowhere near as good as any of their previous ones. I like the singles best. Remember Forever and the first 6 minutes of Faith are great too. The ballad in English... a bit too much :nervous
I also feel they could've integrated some of the instrumental bits a bit better... For example:
- Treshold could've been made into a proper song.
- The destiny intro sounds like an ending
- The theme of the holy grails seems a bit disney-esque and short as well...

My favourite songs are (skipped singles):
1. MASQUERADE - Love the chorus and great outro. Really addictive song :heart: :heart: :heart:
2. Flowery - Sounds really nice. Love the guitar solo part and double pedal are great. :thumbup
3. Remember Forever - Nice Ballad, but i think this song will became "one-shot" listen for me :nervous
4. Love will be born again - Haha, i love this song so much. Really beautiful acoustic guitar, and Kamijo's engrish is so lovely :love:
5. Faith & Decision - Loooooooooong Song. Just liked the instrumental part :grin:
And I think "The Theme of Holy Grail" could've been better if they put this as intro for the album.

I visited a Versailles concert recently and it was really nice. The band has a great performance and looks good on stage! The audience was crazy! I think I've never seen so many fangirls on one place. I was afraid that they will faint soon because the location was small and there were so many people inside it! But in overall In enjoyed it a lot!

^Yeah, somehow they tend to pick the worst location to perform overseas. The venue here was more like an attic. It was so small and it didn't even have a proper stage.

I have to admit I'm quite disappointed with these contents.
- First of all, their first proper concert DVD was 140 minutes and contained pretty much all their songs.
- Secondly, 40% of this DVD was already released as a bonus for Philia! I.e.: "Rosen Schwert," "RINCESS -Revival of church-," "Catharsis," "Reminiscence," "desert apple," "Aristocrat's Symphony," and "Sympathia."
- Finally, I'm bored with these songs. I'd much rather have a live performances of songs from the Holy Grail album. The performance on this DVD is already a year old.

Can this day get any worse.
Truly a unique band with five amazing musicians with an eye for showmanship. I can proudly say they are my favorite band.
The Holy Grail wasn't as great as the older stuff, even though the last two singles were great again.
A part of me can take comfort in the fact that they quit while they are peaking and didn't fall into obscurity with bad music.
I'll be looking forward to their new projects.

Versailles members HIZAKI (G), TERU (G), MASASHI (B), and YUKI (Dr) have welcomed a new vocalist ZIN to the ranks and they’ve created a new band called Jupiter.
This summer, Jupiter will release their debut single, “Blessing of the Future“, under Universal International’s rock label Thunderball667. The band plans to release songs and hold lives taking into consideration of activities across the world.
In related news, Versailles member KAMIJO (Vo) is currently recording for his solo debut this summer.

Anyway, I'm glad they're continuing in this line-up. The little sample sounded exactly the same as their usual work, but why change what works.
Not too big on the new vocalist so far. Kamijo definitely added something unique to their sound. This new one sounds as crappy the most VK vocalists :sweatdrop:

Kamijo s 1st single sold: 6,565 copies and ranked #19
Usually, the band's single would sell less when there is an upcoming album. However!
Jupiter's album sold 3,646 copies and ranked #31.
At Versailles popularity peak they sold roughly 7k~9K of their albums and singles.
However, the last single and album were also at the 3~4K mark.
What does this all mean? Are the fans done with them? More support for Kamijo?

The only reason to order this single is for the bonus poster with the hand signed autographs tbh. (first press only at certain stores)
Kamijo's Symphony of the Vampire had a weekly ranking of #47 with 2.415 copies sold, which is less than Jupiter's album at the time:
Jupiter's album sold 3,646 copies and ranked #31.

Really poor sales from all of them tbh. I prefer Kamijo's album over Jupiter's latest single tho, but they *really* need to forget these new projects and get back together. It's obvious they need each other.

I used to listen so much to them! I've seen them live three times! Went to their last live in NHK Hall in 2012. Ngl cried a little at the end, Teru was so sad. :(
Haven't listened to either JUPITER or Kamijo's solo yet, though. I probably should. orz
