Charlton Heston, the Oscar-winning actor who achieved stardom playing larger-than-life figures including Moses, Michelangelo and Andrew Jackson in historical epics and went on to become a best-selling author, a contentious Hollywood labor leader, an unapologetic gun advocate and darling of conservative causes, has died. He was 84. (http://www.latimes.com/la-me-heston6apr06,0,3675317.story)

Here's another article:
LOS ANGELES - Charlton Heston, who won the 1959 best actor Oscar as the chariot-racing "Ben-Hur" and portrayed Moses, Michelangelo, El Cid and other heroic figures in movie epics of the '50s and '60s, has died. He was 84. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23975503/)
Honestly, I wasn't a fan about his one-track mindedness regarding his opposition to gun registration, but there's no denying his impact and legacy in the entertainment industry.
R.I.P. Mr Heston.

This. Probably the greatest actor of his generation, and although he made many enemies with his stubborn politics, he stuck up for what he believed in. RIP
