Still loving XCOM. I'm playing it on an easier mode, cos I'd rather have casual fun than a challenging game. Still it doesn't mean it's easy.
The first decision I had to make was to go save America or Hong Kong. Course I didn't want to lose America. So I actually sacrificed where I lived (in reality).
I'm pretty far in the game now though. Yesterday I shot down my 6th or 8th UFO.
I had some of my main team members go for training, including all my Assault guys. Leaving only 3 vet members (a Heavy, Sniper and Support) coupled with 3 rookies to handle the battle.
First was a pair of Mutons with a Muton Berzerker. They're tough, but my vet sniper took down the pair easily enough. leaving the rest of the team whittling the Berzerker in turn while leading him out to open space for the kill.
Next was a three-some of Heavy Floaters. Managed to get one of the stray ones down with a few shots and a grenade. Leaving 2 more.
One of them destroys a whole wall of cover I was using, hurting a few of the team and creating a fire that blocked the side path the rookie took. He'd be dead meat if I left him out there. So I had him retreat back using a middle path.
I should've just had him bunker somewhere outside . The rookie alerted a Cyberdisk (darn you Cyberdisks!) and its pair of Drones, where they started to move in to take out the team.
The Cyberdisk did a Death Blossom, doing AoE pain to the whole group. The rookie was now on one point HP and also Panicking (cannot command for that turn). After having the team all attacking it, we finally destroy it. YAY! It then blows up hurting everything around it and killing the rookie... NOOOeeez
This calls for some drastic actions. Game-reload.
OK. This time I have a Support heal the rookie with a Medi-kit. Sniper attack the CyberDisc for major damage. Then Stealth another Support for a critical-hit kill. The explosion from the Cyberdisc destroys its drones.
Rookie still gets hurt, but he's still alive.
Get the team to fall back for healing/reload, leaving my vet Heavy there to fight the 2 Heavy Floaters alone.
The Heavy was my first character, I called him Stalingrad and gave him red armor just to show how badass he is.
He can last a lot of hits, but his weapon is still the basic LMG with really bad aim and little damage. Stuff that. Throws two rockets and Mindfrays one of them to hell. The other one starts retreating. I capture it of course.
End this with 2 funny bits.
1. I'm only halfway through the mission...
2. Darn I miss my two vet Assaults... Ned Stark and Jon Snow. Come back soon.
