^I agree, in terms of KPop, I really don't expect to be wowed at all since a lot of the songs tend to blend with each other sans ballads or softer orchestral ones.

First things first, they need to have Tia drop that last line, it was kinda cute at first but now it's getting annoying. From what I can partially get from this stage, they sang live but they need to work on their endurance a little more and their breathing. I genuinely like this group so I want to see they improve and shine.

The lovely ladies of Chocolat will make a comeback in less than two weeks!
The group is expected to return to the K-pop scene as a quintet with digital single “Boogie Down” on February 14th. According to their Official fancafe they will have their first comeback stage on Mnet‘s M!Countdown program. The group will also participate in the other weekly music shows.
In anticipation of this comeback, Chocolat has released member Tia‘s photo teaser. Dressed in a lovely yellow cocktail dress with an elegant side ponytail, the teaser focuses on Tia’s radiating beauty and inviting smile. With Spring on its way, it looks like the group is going for a bright and sunny concept for this promotion cycle.

An interview with the girl group Chocolat “Forget about the words ‘mixed-race’ and ‘sexy’: we’re different"
Girl group Chocolat, who are in their third year of existence, have returned to the music scene after a year-long absence, making a comeback on June 15th with “Black Tinkerbell", the title track of their single album. They were a hot topic when they debuted in August of 2011, becoming famous as a ‘mixed-race girl group’ due to the fact that three of the members are half Caucasian.
Chocolat left a deep impression on the music scene with their debut song “Syndrome" and followed it with breath-taking activities for the songs “I Like It" and “One More Day/Same Thing To Her". It seemed like they were moving forward and heading toward the top, but they didn’t release any new songs after that, and we were left wondering what they were currently up to.
The reason why they took such a long time to make a comeback is because the process of creating the top-notch song and choreography wasn’t exactly smooth sailing. Chocolat first heard “Black Tinkerbell" last summer and the entire following year was spent just arranging the song. Preparing the choreography wasn’t an easy time either.
Making a comeback after a year was daunting to the members too. They had worries such as “When we come back, won’t it be like how it was when we were rookies?" and “Won’t the general public have forgotten about us?".
"I thought that people would have forgotten about us, and that when we came back, we would have to start at the very beginning like when we were rookies." (Melanie)
So, Chocolat devoted themselves to practicing in order to show a top-notch stage. During their long absence, they only had two weeks of free time (recently though, entertainment companies have been giving more breaks to their talent).
The members all have unique feelings about the song “Black Tinkerbell".
"Black Tinkerbell" has a ‘girly concept’, not a ‘sexy concept’
"Our fairy concept is something new that hasn’t been attempted before, so it leaves a deep impression compared to other songs." (Melanie)
"Black Tinkerbell" was written with the motif of the children’s story “Peter Pan". The four members sing of Tinkerbell’s unrequited love for Peter Pan and the envy she has toward Wendy. ‘Black’ represents the jealousy.
"We wanted to express feelings that a young girl would have, like Tinkerbell in the fairy tale. It’s definitely different from the ‘sexy’ concept that we’ve done in the past." (Soa)
Chocolat shows this sort of side with their ‘fairy dance’, where the hand motions are particularly reminiscent of fairies: during the chorus, the members move their arms like fluttering wings. Tia was personally involved in creating this part of the choreography.
Some of the members are still quite young, so sexy concepts are a bit of a burden
The members look content when they’re doing the choreography for pure and innocent concepts, but other than their debut song “Syndrome", they have come to the stage with sexy concepts, like the choreography for “One More Day/Same Thing To Her" where they raise their legs on chairs. Tia and Melanie were only 16 (T/N: in Korean age) at the time, so considering their young ages, it was quite a burden for them.
"It was really hard for me. I was actually wondering what ‘sexy’ even is. The fans thought it was cute that I was doing the chair dance and pretending to be sexy. However you choose look at it, it was interesting." (Melanie)
The members of Chocolat clarified that “Black Tinkerbell" doesn’t have a sexy concept.
"There’s a scene in the music video where we do a group dance on top of water. The fans saw that and said that we’re doing a sexy concept again, but that wasn’t our intention. So, it was a bit sad that things turned out that way." (Tia)
We’re Korean… to be honest, we don’t like the emphasis that we’re mixed-race
Ever since their debut three years ago, Chocolat has attracted attention for being ‘mixed-race idols’. What are their thoughts about this title that continues to follow them?
"To be honest, I don’t like the emphasis that we’re mixed-race. We all have Korean citizenship and social security numbers too. We love Korea." (Tia)
They hope that people will see them as Korean rather than mixed-race.
After a one-year absence, Chocolat have returned with the hearts and minds of rookies.
"Since it’s been a year since we’ve appeared, we want to re-introduce our name to those who have forgotten about Chocolat, and we want to do that through our music, not through the emphasis on us being a mixed-race group." (Soa)
At the very beginning, Chocolat attracted attention for being mixed-race, but like the name of their debut song ‘Syndrome’, that only caused a sensation (T/N: ‘신드롬을 일으키다’ in the original article literally translates as ‘to cause a syndrome’ but is an idiomatic Korean expression that means ‘to cause a sensation’). They overcame a tough time and started again. We look forward to what Chocolat has in store for the future.

One of the main talking points of South Korean society in 2013 is the topic of job instability, and it seems that there is no exception, even for those working as idols.
Tia and Melanie are the youngest members of the girl group Chocolat, who have recently made a comeback after a 1 year and 3 month absence. The two are just barely sophomores in high school, but they have already gotten a foot in the door of the music industry, though not without difficulty. However, they have also worried a lot about whether or not they will have to give up on their dreams of becoming singers.
They have suffered from depression as well, especially with their recent comeback happening around a year later than it was expected to.
"Essentially, we became a group that no one even saw. We were away for a long time, so naturally, our fans left and there became no reason for our company to have us make a comeback.
What the members believed in and turned to most were themselves. They worried about their futures with one another and it was a situation where an answer to the query “What else is there to do if we’re not singers?" didn’t readily present itself.
"Other than being singers, none of us could think of anything else that we wanted to do."
The sense of relief, of “We finally made it!" that Chocolat felt immediately after their debut was short-lived and was soon replaced with a whole new level of concerns, such as “How can we survive in the sea of idols?" and “Can we gain just one more fan?"
While the youngest members were growing taller, their outward appearances and innermost thoughts were maturing as well.
Chocolat’s comeback song is entitled “Black Tinkerbell". Set to music with a dream-like mood, it tells the story of a heartbroken Tinkerbell who loves Peter Pan, but whose love cannot be realised because she is only a tiny fairy. The choreography at the chorus is like a festival of fairies and has a mysterious and fantasy-like feeling.
The members explained, “When we debuted, there was an emphasis on sexiness in order to present a strong image, but we’re relieved that this time, the girly image matches our real ages.
The response is positive, with fans stating “They got better at singing" and “This is their best song to date".
But Chocolat aren’t satisfied yet. “Now we need to show everyone our full abilities," they said, solidifying their will.
"Many might have forgotten about us in the year that we were away, but we’re not rookies. Of course, we have to make people remember Chocolat again. We also have to build up our fanbase overseas and become proficient in foreign languages so that we can have confidence in doing activities overseas, but for the time being, we think Korea is our top priority."

So basically I had a heart attack this morning because I got to skype with Melanie Lee from Chocolat. My friend told me that Melanie had posted her Skype username on Twitter and was letting people call her so we were basically freaking out when we added her and it said that she was online. I didn’t really think that she was going to answer and she didn’t the first time I tried to call. The second time I tried calling her I thought of some questions I’d ask while it was ringing. I started spacing out a little until the ringing stopped and I looked down and saw it was counting the seconds on the call. I heard some noise and basically it went like this.One such account. Skyping with random people, haha. Ghetto but cute. Gotsta do what you gotsta do. :P
