Our slogan is finished!
2009.06.15
S/mileage's slogan(?), the yell you do before a performance is finished~
It goes like this:
Combining "Smile" and "Age" (Ayaka) we get "Smile generation" (All)
With "Smile" and "Mileage" (Yuuka) we accumulate smiles (All)
When speaking of a unit with unlimited storage of smiling faces (Kanon) -- S/mileage (All)
With gratitude and smiles (Saki) we'll shine on! (All)
Yup.
I can't wait for the day we'll get to start using it (o^_^o)
Dawa was prolly still thinking about the snake she met the other day.:lol:
Where was the live, before entering the store, downstairs ?
The store's staff was there too ?
Air thingsShe is clearly Finnish at heart!
(I can do air guitar, air amusement parks, air cooking, and air sports)
EDIT: Kanon & Yuuka just posted thanking for many followers. These tweets were posted via "TwitBird iPhone", whereas the tweets that mention time were posted via "Perl Net::Twitter". So when they post via TwitBird, it's actually themselves posting in real time? idk idk

With how S/mileage's debut was handled, we might be looking at a concerted effort to make them follow the same pattern that Morning Musume did.
As a result, I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up with several new members.
However, it seems to me it's a little odd that it's not being called an "audition", just "accepting applications".
Very odd, as a matter of fact...

Those who haven't followed S/mileage since the beginning might not realize this, but S/mileage has always faced uncertainty. While you could chalk them up to Tsunku trolling the girls, that tone of uncertainty was something that was set early on and reinforced later.
During the Suki-chan event shown on their "Toe The Line" DVD, Tsunku not only announced that they would be having their major debut in the spring of 2010 but he also announced which members would be part of the group. The girls themselves had no idea this announcement was coming and they all freaked out onstage with the prospect of being kicked out or broken up. As it turns out he named all four members, but it proved early on that Tsunku was willing to subject S/mileage to almost cruel levels of uncertainty.
Tsunku's challenge to gather 10,000 smile photos in a month was another example. If they didn't make it in a month, he said their debut was "uncertain". The reason he gave for the challenge was that S/mileage gave the impression of being "close friends" but not much more. Specifically, he spoke of things like "passion", "spirit", "energy", and "aura" as things that they were lacking. In the end they proved that they could rise to the challenge, but the threat of not having their debut was always hanging over them.
During his video announcement at S/mileage's 1 year anniversary event, Tsunku said that the group was "missing something". As he posted on his blog, it turns out what he was referring to was "rivalry". Adding several new girls at once certainly would make the original members not want to lose to them. At the same time telling the new girls that they might not become full members adds a sense of competition between them. The second point is especially true given the increase from 4 to 9 members overnight and the lingering question "should S/mileage really be this big?". Once again, another example of uncertainty being used to spur on S/mileage's growth.
With what the original members have had to go through, I don't think it's unfair to subject the new girls to uncertainty and having to prove themselves worthy. I see it more as a rite of passage that the original members all had to go through themselves.
However, there is always the possibility that the uncertainty is manufactured and Tsunku (or Yamazaki Naoki depending on who you think makes these decisions) is just saying these things with no intention of following through. Tsunku might not have ever really thought of breaking up a then-indies S/mileage and only said that to get a reaction on stage. If they didn't get 10,000 smile photos, he might very well have had them debut anyway. With the current "submembers" he could intend to keep all of them regardless of what happens. In any case, all of these announcements serve to spur on the girls' growth, give wotas and the media something to chew on, and create publicity.
In the end whether or not the intention to follow through is there doesn't really matter. Such challenges become like self-fulfilling prophecies since idols (and their fans) tend to rise to the occasion when they're given enough publicity. With the amount of coverage Morning Musume had in 1997, there really wasn't much risk that they would fail to sell 50,000 CDs in 5 days -- they did it in 4. Similarly, S/mileage's risk of not getting 10,000 smiles was much lower than anyone thought as they ended up with around 16,000 photos.
If any of the new submembers isn't eventually made a full member, I can guarantee that it won't be because they couldn't cut it as an idol. Just calling them "submembers" in the first place is enough to make them work harder as well as gain them fan support. Unless there's some scandal or some greater plan behind the scenes, I believe that they will all rise to become full S/mileage members.
"Dear Diary,
Today Boss Dawa-sama told us a story about dead frogs with great enthusiasm.
It was terrifying.
Kanon-sama wouldn't let us use the elevator with the main members, so we needed to use the stairs all the way up to the 11th floor.
Yuuka-sama only cries.
I'll keep trying my best!
- Meimi"
Announcement re: Smileage’s sub member Kosuga Fuyuka
The Smileage official site has just announced that Kosuga Fuyuka has been in terrible health and had to be hospitalized. Upon inspection, she was diagnosed with “severe anemia”. She will be unable to engage in any strenuous activity and was advised for the next few months to focus purely on recovery. Due to these circumstances, she will be stopping her activity as a Smileage sub member. After her recovery, she will be placed into Hello Project Eggs to restart her career.
In regards to the Smileage fall concert tour “Smileage Concert Tour 2011 Fall Gyakushou no chou mini skirt”, she will not be participating.

Wada has really grown as leader. She's become a fine adult. Before, he wanted her to be more active as leader, but he also wants her to grow her own personal characteristics. There are a lot of airheads in S/mileage, but he wants to bring her own elegant sort of airheadedness to the front.
Fukuda is becoming a college student, and he thinks she's become all the more rejuvenated and fresh. It's great that she's facing the front with a pure sort of feeling lately. He wants to entrust a lot of things to her from now on. She's grown tremendously since she was small, but now she looks like an innocent high school girl.
Katsuta is a girl who's inconsistent with how photogenic she is. Because of that, he's surprised every once in a while by how photogenic she is and the times when she smiles with all of her heart. And that's not just in photos, but also in recording and MCs. She might actually be a home run batter, so he wants her to always swing with full force.
Tamura's wild side is sometimes very quiet and composed. Her limbs have always been long, and if she could silently adjust her features, she could appear as something like a model. Even so, there's still a switch inside of her that makes her really, really noisy. But that's what's so lovely and charming about her. He looks forward to working with the part of S/mileage that is the "life."
Takeuchi has become very sensuous. She has been setting out on a boyish direction with her hair and styling, but what's interesting is she can put her girl face forward as much as possible. First-time fans will see her short cut and think that she's a boyish sort of girl, but regular fans have noticed that hidden part of her.
Nakanishi, much like Tamura, has a switch that when flipped makes her extremely noisy, like a broken toy, but when she's silent she's like the daughter of a high-class family. No one would suspect she's actually a future Osaka granny. He thinks that if she grows her bangs out, he'll be able to produce a completely different Nakanishi. Look forward to it!

Nippon Budokan in Tokyo is a multipurpose hall well known in Japan and overseas. It opened in 1964 as the venue for judo matches at the Tokyo Olympics and became widely known as a concert venue when The Beatles gave live performances there in 1966, an epoch-making event that made appearing at the hall a goal for many artists.
Its name became increasingly well known among overseas artists, partly because the iconic British rock band Deep Purple and the U.S. band Cheap Trick, who swept the world in the late 1970s, both performed live at the Budokan. Albums with recordings from those appearances, “Made in Japan” and “Cheap Trick at Budokan,” became best sellers.
I went to see many performances at the Budokan by popular rock artists from overseas in the 1980s.
Even after Yoyogi National Stadium and Tokyo Dome, both bigger than the Budokan, began serving as concert venues, the Budokan has remained a sacred place both for artists and audiences.
In a new phenomenon that began around 2012, the Budokan has hosted many idol groups.
I can think of many reasons for this. For one thing, the focus of the entire music industry has been shifting from records, CDs and TV to live concerts and selling products there. Also, more and more idol groups are getting popular enough to attract 8,000 to 10,000 people to their concerts, almost enough to fill the hall.
The audience seats surround the Budokan’s arena. Concert organizers therefore have more options than at ordinary halls regarding where to build a stage. This suits idol performers, whose concert styles are different from those of other bands. Due to the design, guests at the Budokan can feel closer to the performers than at other large-scale venues.
Many idol groups will perform live at the Budokan for the first time this year, including the six-member pop group S/mileage.
“I’ve seen videos of live concerts at the Budokan by many artists and bands, but I’d never thought I’d give my own concert here,” said Kanon Fukuda, one of the founding members of the group. “Our performance on July 15 is a high point of my life. I like ice cream a lot, but I decided to stop eating it until the day of the concert to discipline myself for success.”
Cofounder Ayaka Wada said: “We’re on a national tour now. The whole time I’ve been trying to get mentally prepared for the concert at the Budokan. Otherwise, the precious time until the concert will quickly be wasted.”
Years ago, idols spent a lot of time on TV programs. Now, many idols focus on giving live performances somewhere in the nation every weekend. This career path has led idol groups to climb the stairway to the Budokan.
“We’ve come here hand-in-hand with our fans,” said Wada. “When I revealed my anxiety [about the large-scale concert] a little bit on my blog, one of our fans wrote: ‘We’ll definitely go to your concert. You can trust us.’ Those responses are very encouraging.”
When I frequented the Budokan to see overseas bands, it was a place to see polished performances. However, many idols today reach the Budokan while showing the process of their growth to their fans. Most overseas fans of Japanese idol groups say they have no such groups in their countries. I hope S/mileage will give a concert that proves that Japanese idol groups are indeed special.

(Ayaka Wada)
Funya funya (physically/mentally fluffy) elementary school child has become a solid talent.
Still there are lots of funya funya parts inside of her though.
Her eyes sparkle when a topic shifts to Art and Buddha statues.
I wonder if she could turn on a switch for S/mileage as the same raw passion as Buddha statues. (laugh)
In “Mystery Night!”, I gave her a relatively-longer solo part.
Her voice which is sounded as if it flips a bit, stands out in a good sense.
(Kanon Fukuda)
She is busy in being a girl, guy, mature woman, or Cinderella inside of her.
As well as Ayaka Wada, she has worked for a long time including H!P egg era.
This year for her and Wada will be a critical time.
Advancing her ability is up to her.
She learns a choreography and song real quick.
However, if her innate sense that she thinks or sees the world from different angle naturally emerged as a performance, Fukuda would shine more .
How much could she bring it for the single?
(Kana Nakanishi)
She looks she always smiles but, she has guts in fact.
There’s an appetite inside of her for sure.
Although she often gets a failing grade on both singing and dancing, she always gains something out of her experience.
Turning anything into profit, is this characteristic features of people in and from Osaka? (laugh)
This time she acted sexy Nakanishi and Rock Nakanishi in her way.
It was also good for her to get bangs.
(Akari Takeuchi)
I didn’t think the costume of “Mystery Night!” suits her that much, because I have sought a way for her a while.
She surprised me the most in the group. Even she surprised that I was surprised but, she didn’t find it altogether bad.
I guess she got a clue, an opprtunity.
When people gain more confidence, it will appear on the surface.
From in the middle of its MV shooting after the recording, she had a change of heart a lot!!
(Rina Katsuta)
She has grown up. I sometimes worry her poor posture, but it is her color at the same time.
I want her to improve standing and siting posture, but now is about time for her to kick things into gear. She has a good figure, good personality, and has the potential to become a smash hit.
Getting more confidence brings a positive change in dancing and singing.
All she need is training! This year is the time!? Fight!
(Meimi Tamura)
I had an image of her only “a hyper girl” up until a few years ago, but, yes, still she is.
She behaves like 5 years old hyper child in a backstage but, when she turns off
she is so cool it’s frightening.
A conversation we have sometimes is very cool as well.
I wonder if she can stay there all the time, but that’s not fun, that’s boring.
I have nothing to say about her performance unless she puts more color in singing.

On July 15, 6-member idol group S/mileage held their first ever solo live concert, "S/mileage LIVE 2014 Natsu FULL CHARGE ~715 Nippon Budokan~", at Nippon Budokan.
The leader of the group Wada Ayaka cheerfully greeted the audience, "The one to cause an excitement today here at Nippon Budokan will be us, S/mileage!" Fellow member Fukuda Kanon, who couldn't stop her tears from the start, followed her with, "We will liven up the stage while making 8,000 of your faces fully charged with smiles!"
S/mileage was first formed back in April 2009 consisting of former Hello! Pro Egg members. After their indie activities, they made their major debut with "Yume Miru 15-sai" in 2010.
One of the first generation members, Fukuda, who has experienced fellow members graduations, revealed her thoughts, "I have wished that I left the group with them. I thought about leaving many times and even searched for well-paid part time jobs. Even so, because of the fans' warmth, I still feel that it is such a happy thing to be able to stay as an idol. I would like to continue working hard to go further, to the bigger venues, so please show us the beautiful 6-colored glowing sticks!"
One of the second generation members, Nakanishi Kana also looked back over the past, saying, "There was a time I was kicked out during voice training, and I was scolded by the manager every day, but now that we are standing on the stage of Budokan, I think I was able to repay an obligation at least for a little bit."
During the live concert, the girls performed 23 songs including their new song "Chikyu wa Kyo mo Ai wo Hagukumu" (to be released on August 20 as double A-side single with 'Aa Susukino') and enthused over 8000 audience members.
To celebrate S/mileage's first live at the Budokan, other groups from Hello! Project that include Morning Musume '14, Juice=Juice, Berryz Kobo, and ℃-ute visited the venue. Their producer Tsunku♂, who is currently undergoing treatment for laryngeal cancer, also watched over the group's big moment.

[EN] Concerning S/mileage
September 24, 2014 at 6:17am
S/mileage made their major debut for more than 4 years and a half.
We began as 4 members but on 2011 Ogawa and Maeda successively graduated and the group had to surpass a crisis.
During this crisis 2nd generation members have been added and 6 members composed the group since then. We, as 6 members, had to overcome many things and this year, we have been able to successfully perform at the Budokan, a dream for us.
For S/mileage, it was something really big and we have been able to get more self-confidence by ourselves.
We feel really gratitude towards the 4 members of the 2nd generation.
With the successful Budokan's live, we have reached the point of thinking that S/mileage can do things bigger and bigger.
Then during some habitual discussion with the 2nd generation, we sometimes felt anxiety from them about what will happen to the group if we, the original members, would graduate from S/mileage.
We discussed with our staff, and we will add members from Hello! Pro Kenshuusei. We think that adding new members would be a good stimulus for everyone.
With this new group' start, our name will change as well. We are currently taking applications for this new name.
It was "the first chapter" of S/mileage until now. We think that with the new group's name, we, as 6 members plus the new members will start "the second chapter".
To be able to do what we couldn't do until now, we would like to challenge new things in order to reach this potentiality.
Please continue to support us from now as well.

Iya~ I'm surprised.
Those girls have grown up before I knew it.
That they'd plan something like this by themselves!
Eh!? Adding new members!
What!? A name change!
...I was surprised.
But since there's significance in them thinking hard about this themselves,
a forward-looking action like this makes me think they're nearing success.
I can only support them, right!
But I wonder what kind of name they'll have...
Do something like "S/mileーーーage". (lol)
*Thx to Ro-kun
Kana: very surprised, couldn't believe it. I think it's a good thing, very happy. want to create good environment for the 3rd gen. want members from different areas of the country. Happy for every day, thankful for 1st gen for accepting 2nd gen!
Meimei: Mei: expected 3rd gen but surprised about the name just like you. want to welcome 3rd gen. plz support the 3rd gen
Rina: took time for the 2nd gens to get accepted, want to make everyone accept 3rd gen asap! excited for new members now! sad about the name b/c I loved it. group name is important. excited to hear your ideas! we'll work hard so we can see your happy faces
Akari: it's true that we were kinda slacking. can't be like the youngest forever, we'll be senpai. We need to teach what we learned. Thankful that 1st gen didn't disband & accepted 2nd gen, and the 6 of us were able to hold Budokan concert successfully...

ANGERME welcome 16-year-old member to the group- http://www.tokyohive.com/article/2015/11/angerme-welcome-16-year-old-member-to-the-group
November 12, 2015
ANGERME have welcomed a new member to the group!
The new member is 16-year-old Kamikokuryo Moe. She passed the "2015 ANGERME New Member Audition" held back in July.
Kamikokuryo's admission into the group was a surprise announcement on November 11 at CLUB CITTA' (Kanagawa) during a release event for their single. She received a warm welcome from her fellow members and fans that she shed tears of joy on stage.

At least after the wholesale graduation of Elder Club, some fans consider MMusume-Berryz-C-ute as the great Trinity of H!P.
With Berryz gone, does anyone think current ANGERME are worthy of taking their place in the Trinity? After all, Sakichy, Kanon, & Meimei were key members before their graduations.

here's a compressed folder with early s/mileage pictures, somewhat sorted but not fully. :)
