Wow i cant remember which one i watched first but show wise i believe teknoman was first, it was called tekkaman in japan, great show oldschool, here's a pic:

After that either DBZ or Ronin Warriors show wise.

Movie wise would have to be akira or ghost in the shell.

Akira was the first anime I watched when I knew it was an anime, but I had a tape as a kid of the dubbed Star Blazers/Starship Yamato (still got it actually) and I remember really liking the start but not liking the ending

The first ever was probably Samurai Pizza cats, but I really began to like anime when I saw Dragonball Z.

Pretty sure it was Robotech, Astroboy and Voltron (all turned to english) on local TV channel. So roboty~

But first time I actually woke up and separated "anime" from "cartoons" was from my cousin. Which introduced me to stuff like Dragon Ball, Laputa, Totoro, City Hunter, Crying Freeman, Bubble Gum Crisis... etc.

Kids now are so lucky, with the net. Before, I'd nearly need to kill just to get some episodes of Hello Kitty!!?!~ :hits with chair:

For me it was Mysterious Cities of Gold, Ulysses 31 and Thundercats.

They are all kind of on the line though as they were joint projects with western TV stations.

Proper anime was Dominion Tank Police.

I think when i was watching this, they also showed Shaider and Kamen Rider Black (and Bioman/Maskman, i think). Back then i was more of a metal hero/super sentai fan than an anime fan. It wasnt until Ghost Fighter (Yu Yu Hakusho) came out that i started looking for other anime.

i remember watching sailormoon back in the philippines and i think everyone (or atleast everyone that was watching sailormoon back then- which was me and all the girls in my grade [haha i was the only guy watching this]) realized after a while(well we werent that informed in terms of sexuality back then) that uranus and neptune were lesbians.

the funny thing is that, few years ago, i watched the english dubbed version of sailor moon on ytv and they had something completely stupid made up as an explanation on why uranus and neptune are close (sorry i dont remember but i do remember it being stupid).

I saw about ten minutes of Nausicaa on TV when I was really little and didn't find out what it actually was for yeeaaars. It was worth it though!

The first and only series I really got into was Evangelion in middle school. I bought the tapes (mostly dubbed xD) for like 30 dollars a pop. What a huge rip off anime used to be.

I think it's Doraemon, when I was still about 6-7 years old

they still show that on my local TV every sunday O_o

but I really got into anime thanks to Evangelion.
