During the decision on which colours to designate the YumeRiai combi, the office (navy brass) initially decided on assigning Light Pink to Riai and Royal Blue to Yume. In today's Fleet Apukami, we get to see the team recording of Future Smile MV. Catch Sergeant Arisawa playing the violin at 5:46 !
Though pressure to perform is overwhelming for any newcomer joining JJ, one thing for certain is that they are all proud to belong to the unit..thus, any newcomer with outstanding unique skill and ability like Rei (Voice Percussion) and Ichika with the violin is a source of pride and confidence as a special warfare unit:



With so many skilled members, I can totally see Juice perform as a bona fide band at least once...perhaps in the following roles:

Townwork Magazine interviewed Juice=Juice's 3rd Commanding Officer, Captain Akari Uemura who opens up with her frank opinions, hopes and dreams for her life and her unit.

Captain Akari Uemura, who became the last original member of Juice = Juice and became the unit's third Captain last month. "When the unit was formed, I was about to disappear first (laughs)," she said, and has achieved great growth in the eight years since her debut. Before the release of triple A-side singles such as the cover of "Plastic Love", which symbolizes the city pop boom, we asked her to talk about the present, past, and future.

You'll be surprised. I didn't expect my older comrades to leave the group all at once in a year of angry waves, and I was surprised that I would become the leader (laughs).

In the early days, when asked "What kind of person would you like to be for the new members?", I answered "like a dog" (laughs). Now that I know that dogs can't enter Juice = Juice, I hope I can heal everyone in a standing position like a therapy dog ​​(laughs).

――You aim to be a healing leader.

Even if I don't pull the group forward, all the members are excellent. In the old days, I used to say something I wanted to say without stopping. Now I'm in the position of the other person and think about how I can do something everyone can accept. Even for me like this, I sometimes get a consultation asking "What should I do?" And I am confident that I am looking at the child properly, so I can say the opinion that I think is the best. I became an adult there.

 

I don't want to lower the level of the group
――The idol wasn't an aim for yourself, but you were recommended by your aunt to be a Morning Musume. You became a Hello Pro Kenshuusei trainee after you auditioned for the 9th term.

that's right. I was in Osaka until the middle of my second year of junior high school and was a very ordinary junior high school student. I liked animals, so I was a breeding committee member, running around in the classroom, and spending my time really freely. As it is now, my friends often said, "Akari is ready!" (Laughs).

――While all Hello Pro Kenshuusei trainees are trying to make their debut, Akari-san, who is at her own pace, may have changed.

It remained unfussy (laughs). You were divided into teams by saying "I can, or can't" sing and dance. I'm always on the side of what I can't do, and rather than trying hard, I just ask, "What should I do?" I couldn't even set a goal and couldn't think of a debut at all.

――But you were selected as a member of Juice = Jucie.

I was surprised. I couldn't keep up while there was a big senior trainee presence. I was a member of the lowest rank and file and I didn't want to lower the overall level of the group because of my low abilities. Even after graduating from the trainees, I was asked to take lessons and relearned from the flexibility of the basics and the core.

 

Every singing lesson was going to be anemic

――Akari-san, after her debut, has the impression that the degree of growth of the song was particularly amazing.

My song was so bad that the instructor got tired (laughs). When I concentrated on speaking out, I wasn't physically fit and I was almost anemic every lesson. I was the type who sang with a sense, so I didn't understand the words of instruction, and I had a face like "?". I think that one of the reasons for my growth was that the teacher saw it and told me to "sing first" before I thought about it.

――When you first sang "Don't be fooled, hug me" and your part was only "Hey", did you get sick?

I didn't get sick (laughs). "Hey," wasn't one, but Yuka Miyazaki and me. I was more conscious of trying harder.

――Did you feel that you opened your eyes to the song somewhere?

As the number of songs split increased, I was often told that I was getting better, but I didn't really feel it at all with the feeling of "Why would you say that?" If you still say that, it will be "That's right."

--Are you good at falsetto?

Falsetto and bass are easy to put out, but I'm not good at the most important center (laughs). However, I think that taking advantage of what you can do for the time being will lead to a better evaluation as a result.

 

I don't want to feel the distance even in a big venue

――When do you especially feel the fun of idols?

It's an overwhelming stage. Juice = Juice has always cherished live performances and has done 220 live house tours, so I don't want to think that the fans are far away even on a big stage like the Yokohama Arena last time. I definitely wanted to see it from corner to corner. I want to keep that feeling unchanged.

――The 220 tours in 2015 would have been physically difficult.

It was so hard that the word "hard" couldn't even describe how tough it was(laughs). Raise your arms, jump, talk on MC. I realized that I would use my physical strength for each one. I think that I got the physical strength to move easily on the current stage because I got over that when I was 16 years old.

――Akari, who has a bright image, has never been in a pinch as much as "I want to quit"?

There were only twice (laughs). It was like "I want to go home", but it's big for me. At that time, I try to hide it. I think it's better to put it in words, but I still can't do that, and the (original first gen) members don't even know it.

――How did you get over it?

Even if I was worried about Juice = Juice, on the contrary, I often stayed because it was Juice = Juice. Even if you have been hurt, if you have repeated tonsillitis or if you feel sick, just being with the members will make you feel better.

 

I want to cherish the relationship with people
--Have you ever come to take good care of yourself as an idol?

I have come to strongly want to value the relationship with people. I've been thinking for a long time, but I rarely put my thoughts into words, and people around me seemed to be light. Because I was clumsy, I sometimes made a mistake in how to convey the words.

However, since I became the captain, I would like to honestly convey my thoughts to the people around me and my fans. I would like to do my best to let people who have a strong relationship with Juice = Juice know more about Juice = Juice.

――When you hear that story, I feel that Akari has grown up, but the natural characters don't seem to change (laughs).

Is it natural? I think I'm a strange person (laughs).

――In a famous episode, you heard that carbonated water tightens your face and tried to wash your face with cider (laughs).

That's just the beginning (laughs). Hello! Morning Musume on a project tour. I often spend time with (now-Commander) Sakura Oda and Lieutenant Akane Haga in '21, and I get caught dozens of times every day. I don't remember what I did because it was too trivial, but I was told, "I wouldn't be surprised if Akari was an alien child" (laughs).

――What kind of music do you usually listen to?

There are many Western music. Because my mom used to play it for a long time. Fifth Harmony, Mariah Carey, Avril Lavigne ... There are more women. Miley Cyrus started listening to various things.

--Did you know Mariya Takeuchi's "Plastic Love" that you covered in this single?

I was familiar with the rust part. I was honored to be in the masterpiece when I covered "DOWN TOWN" last time, but I didn't realize that city pop was the current trend. When I looked up various things on YouTube, I thought it was amazing that many people were singing all over the world.

-Akari has a fake.

The last fake of "DOWN TOWN" and the fake I'm in charge of this time have the same sound. The song was written by Tatsuro Yamashita and Mariya Takeuchi, and I secretly put it in because I wanted to associate it with my husband and wife (laughs).

―― “Future Smile” is jazz-style and fashionable, isn't it Akari's favorite?

All the members love this song. The early Juice = Juice-like and mature vibe made me feel a little nostalgic.

――Are there any goals for the nine Juice = Juice from now on?

I'm talking with the members, "I want to do a solo tour." Previously, Juice = Juice did a national tour and a world tour, and there was a feeling of the members being addicted to it. I would like to spend more time with the current members and deepen their relationships.

――Are there any things you want to do individually?

Even if I had something I wanted to do, I started thinking "I'ts not from now ...". If I could only challenge when I was younger, I had this thinking. However, when I heard the story that "it's not too late to learn, no matter how old you are," that's true. What I was interested in is that I will try it once.

――What are you going to do?

There are so many things, such as musical instruments, English, and basic talk, that I don't know where to start (laughs). I will squeeze it and squeeze it, starting with the one that has a connection.

――Akari is only 22 years old and is in the same generation as the people who are trying to make their dreams come true while working part-time. In your career as an idol, do you think it's important to make your dreams come true?

I have no dream that can be realized by myself. While thanking the people around me, when I pursued what I wanted to do, there were people who would definitely support me. If you find a dream, don't think it's too late, but keep chasing after it.

Ruru blogged about spending time with Nanami (Yanagawa, her gen-mate) who celebrated her 20th birthday today. Ruru revealed that she has been keeping in touch with Nanami ever since her graduation. Nanami apparently attended Tomoko's graduation concert and shed lots of tears during the ceremony. Its really nice to see that the bonds among J=J members endures even after a member departs from the group...it really is a testament to the great leadership set in foundation by Yuka in establishing a "FAMILY culture" in her group and the close and amazing support the seniors lovingly extended with warmth to the succeeding generations.

With the way she left the Fleet, she deserve at least this because like it or not, she IS a pillar of early J=J era and an integral part of their legacy.
