Such bullshit those hippies were ambushing the torch relay and a big FUCK YOU goes to Sharon Stone and her karma blast. Yeah right an athlete whose trained 4+ years is gonna boycott, and know the issues beyond what the fucking media tells you.

Nice swimsuits.

^ That is fucking sweet. I like cheerleaders. Here's hoping for lots of cheerleader shots.

So even tho i went on a 3 week vacation in Tokyo i still managed to convince my boss that i needed 2 more for the last 2 (finals baby) weeks of the Olympics. I WILL FUCKING STAY INDOORS AND WATCH EVERYTHING!! WOOO!!

I do think the time table will be perfect for me as well. Fuck yeah Beijing, lets do it!

Carro better grab some gold. I predict atleast 2 or 3 Swedish gold medals (not counting the five billion swim things) in total. And the yanks better go home basketball champs. Time to step up, or gtfo boys. But my real hope is in the Kallur sisters, mostly coz they look awesome on TV. I would not mind and all:

I agree with Barrie, the opening ceremony is one of my favorite parts of the whole dealio!  Is it sad I have my countries of rooting in order?  1.) USA (duh) 2.) Sweden (my 2nd home now!) 3.) Japan 4.) Koreaaa

I am PUMPED!

I can't remember, but do they do everything live or is it usually pre-recorded and sent to us?  Like will the west coast still get the feed 3 hours after the east coast etc etc~

bigger sports air live, iirc. so like swimming, gymnastics, some T&F stuff... but other things that they dont really give much coverage to usually just get recaps during other things with maybe some important clips and stuff

Yeah I remember staying up like crazy early in the morning trying to watch a couple events live in past olympics

I used to be crazy into it, but now I'm not so hyped for some reason, but we'll see what happens when they actually start!

Having watched and compared both the Canadian and American broadcasts of the same games, I can definitely say that the Canadian broadcasts have traditionally aired more live broadcasts of events than the American ones, which tend to tape the "bigger" events so that they can show them in "prime time".  During the last few Olys (both summer and winter), there were several news reports here where Americans living in states directly bordering Canada stated that despite the large difference in hours, they still preferred watching the live Canadian broadcasts over the taped American ones.

Everything will be probaby be aired in the middle of the night here. That's the only downside of having the games in China. But I guess the could do a 're-live' or many summaries. It's all good.

I personally couldn't give a flyin' fuck about the Olympics..
Gone are the days of Olympics being about "Sportsmanship" and "Amateurs".. Now it's all "Pros, drugs and money"..

And why the fuck is "Baseball" an Olympic sport, and "Cricket" isn't?!?! Oh yeah, that's right.. Americans play one but not the other..
Quote from: wiki
Cricket is one of the most widely played sports in the world. More than 120 cricket-playing nations are recognised by the International Cricket Council.

The only good thing to come from these Olympics, will be more awareness about how badly China is treating Tibetans..
Quote from: Save Tibet
Human rights conditions in Tibet remain dismal. Under the Chinese occupation, the Tibetan people are denied most rights guaranteed in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights including the rights to self-determination, freedom of speech, assembly, movement, expression and travel.

^ You forgot about womens Softball. Don't forget the ladies.

But fuck that shit. Nobody gives a rats ass about cricket. If they're gonna play cricket they might as well keep going an extra month. Also IBAF has 112 Baseball-playing countries, which makes them just as eligible as the tea drinkers. And please will people stop raping one of the most beautiful international events in history of man (not saying you are Gjr) with the China / Tibet thing. Nobody should be treated badly and they need to resolve that issue, but letting the Olympics take the heat for it is just down right wrong. Nuff said about that. Over to more important things:

What are your most anticipated sports in the Olympics?

I'm totally looking forward to the Basketball, Athletics, Gymnastics Artistics, Womens Volleyball, Womens Beach Volley, Football, Handball, Judo, Wrestling, Table Tennis and Boxing.

Oh shit it's going to be so awesome. Just checked up on my vacation and i'm just working three days during the olympics. You and me baby, it's all you and me.

And fanservice:

Schedule:

Stolen off: http://en.beijing2008.cn/schedule/

You can find Time Schedule's in .xls for each sport on the schedule (se url above). Use a time zone converter or your head to know when each sport is in your local time. Beijing is GMT/UTC +8.

Also: "NBC Sports promised that China is planning to stage the most spectacular opening ceremony ever seen, featuring 15,000 performers and directed by Zhang Yimou (“House of Flying Daggers,” "Hero").

“I have been told that no matter how spectacular others have been, and there have been many, that this is uber-spectacular,” says NBC primetime host Bob Costas.

“Even if they pull off 75% of their plans, it will truly be over the top and it should be something that that anybody who sees it will never forget,” added David Neal, executive producer, NBC Sports." (http://www.thrfeed.com/2008/07/olympics-openin.html)

UBER-SPECTACULAR!!! FUCK YEAH! I so love uber-spectacular!

I feels weird for me to be agreeing with Guchi... XD

But yeah. A lot of the recent crackdown has been in order to make sure that there are no disruptions so that China looks good during the Olympics. How many people were tortured, raped or murdered to ensure that no one holds up a 'Free Tibet' sign or Snow Lion flag during the opening ceremonies? 1000? 10000? More? Is it worth that to you?

If that's the sort of thing the Olympics chooses to endorse, then they deserve to take the heat for it.

In the Vancouver Olympics they're already dealing with native groups and including all sorts of aboriginal artistry and themes in the ceremonies. How many Tibetan themes should we be expecting?

I'll still be watching the Olympics and rooting for Canadian and American athletes. Its their one chance to compete, and they did nothing wrong. I'm not going to put the Tibet thing out of my mind though. Doing so would be disrespectful to their suffering and dishonest to myself.

I don't think i need to answer that question. I don't think anyone need to answer it. Actually i feel a bit offended that you even asked.

So yeah... anyways. It still saddens me that people aim their anger at the Olympics and the Committee, when they're not the one in charge of whatever wrong doings. As a matter of fact they're trying to stop it. Questionable if they're doing enough. But they're not the ones to put the blame on in my opinion. It is obvious that they have nothing to gain in whatever happened/happens.

Obviously putting innocent people through pain or even killing them is something I am totally against. Accusing someone or something wrongfully of something is also something I am totally against. People should react to whatever is going on, but taking it out on the wrong thing is totally uncalled for. Just coz some people take advantage of something like the Olympics, does not make the Olympics itself bad.

The Olympics is and will be a great event for the world to come together. Usually the host country does it without controversy, like last time in Athens. This time, unfortunately, there is controversy, but it is not about the Olympics, the Committee, the athletes, the thousands of people giving their time and effort making this great event. Thus should they not be the ones to blame. They've done nothing wrong.

I will watch it. I will take in the greatness, the emotions, the joy, the power of seeing the world compete in a spectacular fashion. Also, like always, my thoughts to those treated unjust, not only in Tibet, but all over the world are always so close by. But they have nothing to do with the Olympics.

Thank you for posting that schedule, Sev!!

I don't know much about the Tibet-dealio to give my full opinion.  But, I'm kind of with Sev in that it isn't the Olympic's responsibility to fix it.  They do so much in trying to help with humanitarian acts and make sure things are being done well.  It's not the committee's fault or deal to be worrying about the Tibet-China thing.  I think it's awful what's going on there, but people need to take that up with the government and leave the Olympics out of it.  The Olympics is supposed to unite everyone, and they're doing what they can (I feel) in regards to that issue.

Angry much?  If you don't like the olympics, then don't post in this thread.  I still believe in the olympics about being for sportsmanship and all.  Though I don't think anyone in the olympics has ever been an "amateur".  They do so many tests to try and prevent athletes from drugs and cheating, I believe in the Olympics.  Also, pros are there, but what about those Cinderella stories?  For example, the US men's gymnastics team just lost one of their top athletes and now a runner up gets to go in.  What if they get a medal?  How is that not amazing?

Opening ceremony was crazy. It blew any expectations I could have away, and I always expect a lot visually from Zhang Yimou. And the fact the majority of it was pretty much man driven made it even more amazing. And I also have to say that Nest arena looks amazing, makes me want to go to Beijing just to see it in person.

After seeing that I'm actually pretty hyped for the rest of the games

Well what could I say about the opening ceremony that hasn't already been said? Epic stuff all round and major kudos goes out to everyone involved for a wonderful display.

This will be the first time I've decided to properly follow the Olympics and it's pretty good so far. I've watched Chen Xiexia win the first gold for China in the Women's Weightlifting, Alina Dumitru win the gold for Women's Judo and the ongoing boxing matches.

I cried during the ceremony. Twice. Never in my life have I seen something as spectacular, or anywhere near. I doubt i'll ever see anything like this again in my life. Too bad I couldn't be there. Now that must've been a once in a lifetime experience.

The soccer continues. Canada vs China (w) on as we speak. Really good and exciting game. Canadian girls are looking really really good. Judo 48 and 60 kg are over, with some nice final matches. Too bad Ryoko Tani didn't grab that gold.

I'll be watching the Womens Volleyball later today Jap vs. USA in a bit.

For all results, keep checking out: http://en.beijing2008.cn/

Didn't watch the opening ceremony on telly, so downloaded the main part (skipping all the athletes)..
The first 10~15mins was great, but the rest just became a bit of a yawn..  For me, the highlights were the drums, the scroll at the start, and the arena..

Found the English commentators really annoying.. The woman bitched heaps about China, and the guy said nothing intelligent at all..
eg. "Keep watching this bit".. We got no choice.. It's a fuckin' broadcast, we watch what we're show!! And "That was something"..  Yeah, most things are..

I've never seen so many fireworks my whole life
If you are ever in Osaka on the 1st of August, check out the PL Hanabi in Tondabayashi.. That has 6times the amount of the opening ceremony.. (Been twice)

Jap vs. USA
How hard is it to add an "an"?? Or just write JPN..

Cuz i'm in the US and I watch it on NBC.  It seems to only show the games US participate in.  but isn't several games is played all at once? I want to watch a sport i'm interested in with participants that I like.

If you are ever in Osaka on the 1st of August, check out the PL Hanabi in Tondabayashi.. That has 6times the amount of the opening ceremony.. (Been twice)

unpossible!

anyway, epic ceremonies were epic. my favorite part was the printing blocks that were epicly man powered.

so far been able to catch most of the things ive wanted to see (and a few things im not too interested in lol). big props to the US girls, sweeping individual sabre. props to that czech shooting chick, grabbing the nations first gold medal. waiting for some misty may & kerri walsh action, those women are unbeatable.

Nope :(
Does she even play indoor? I don't even think she made it to the Olympics.

I caught the volleyball game too. Japan was exciting to watch. They were diving and making saves all over the place. They were better until the latter half where it seemed like they kind of fell apart and the US took it 3 sets to 1.

Didn't watch the opening ceremony on telly, so downloaded the main part (skipping all the athletes)..
The first 10~15mins was great, but the rest just became a bit of a yawn..  For me, the highlights were the drums, the scroll at the start, and the arena..
i didn't get to see all of the opening ceremonies. where'd you d/l it from?

The first KO I saw so far has come from a British boxer, very impressive.), Swimming and Gymnastics! :dizzy:

Spain, for sure, will be a tough opponent.

More of our favorite Beach volley team. Tian Jia and Wang Jie. There's an old greek saying that goes: "My wang loves Wang." and I can't but agree with them old wise geezers.

These two hot girls just (literally) came out on top from one helluva fight with the Belgian ladies. 2 - 1 in sets (18 - 21, 21 - 19 and 15 - 13), and what was turning out to be a big upset. Luckily (imo) Tian Jia and Wang managed to keep it together and got the dub.

Reasons why we love them: (Huge res)

Watched a great final in the Men's Team Archery between Italy v Korea. Both teams were tied going into the last 3 arrows each and the last Italian player messed up big time and scored a 7, which the defending champions, Korea, took advantage of and went on to win. You feel bad for the last Italian player because he didn't do that badly before then, scoring a couple of 10's and mostly 9's.

And in Men's Tennis, British star and world No.6 Andy Murray was knocked out in the opening round by Lu Yen-Hsun from Chinese Taipei, ranked 70+ places below him, at 6-7, 4-6. Fully deserved it too, with a great performance. What are the odds of the papers reporting Andy Murray as 'Scottish' rather than 'British'?

*EDIT*

Just saw the 4x100 relay, and what a race! Already knew the outcome beforehand but it didn't make it any less spectacular.

That was a helluva relay, had me on the edge of my seat.
The U.S. pulled it out in the end, and the French team was left eating crow, at least the one who had the fortitude to give the U.S added incentive. ;)

Sometimes I question the BBC's choice in broadcasting. On a day with the likes of the Men's Team Gymnastics Final or Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal playing, all you get on the main broadcasting channel is Equestrian events (my least favourite) pretty near all afternoon. Thank God there's more options on digital or I would be pretty mad. XD

Title: Re: 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing THREAD [spoilers/results inside]

^ Basically the girl you saw singing at the opening ceremony wasn't actually singing it, she was miming the song whilst another girl hidden away in the background was the actual singer. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/asia-pacific/7556058.stm) It's all about how China wanted to present itself basically. You have to feel bad for the singer though. Hidden away from view not knowing why she wasn't up there on stage.

Thinking back on it though, I guess I really should have noticed it. The girl had no microphone or anything so there's no way her voice could have been picked up that clearly without one.

Milli Vanilli Beijing style..

Think the black thing on her collar is a mic.. Gotta make it look real..

Maybe that's why the commentator didn't mention her name..
"And here we have....." (huh?? That's not the ugly kid from the rehearsal)".....a typical Chinese kid" (nice save!!)

It's pretty much a kick in the teeth to both kids.. Basically telling one that she's too ugly, and that the other can't sing.. You would think with the population in the billions, they would be able to find a cute kid with a good singing voice... But I guess not..

And how about the CG footprints (http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/othersports/olympics/2534499/Beijing-Olympic-2008-opening-ceremony-giant-firework-footprints-faked.html)?? Far too perfect to be real..

I was watching that in the 720p version and thinking: wow those are really equal each time, how did they do that? (including the fly-over)

Yup, turns out what was on TV was CGI.
Good that I 'watched' this not in real time, of the 3 hours 20 minutes, I think I watched about half an hour... There where some pretty pictures, and impressive looking performances but the commentary totally ruiend it. (this was a NBC capture, might find a better one later)

[...]wow those are really equal each time, [...]
Actually, the impressive thing would not be how equal they are, but how naturally unequal they made them, since every person can clearly see how every footprint has a very naturally unique look. I must say that part of the fly-over do seem altered (the part shown in the small NBC commercial thing), while the rest of it looks extremely natural. A proof of this is that noone inside, outside or on TV have noticed this "fakeness" until the media picked up on it. I'm not sure what to think. The usual media bull shit crap that they always pull to get us to read their nonsense or actual CGI. Guess, I'll watch that 25gb high-def stuff a couple more times later to make up my own mind.

NOW BACK TO MORE IMPORTANT THINGS! FUCKEN SPORTSand ass!!

Wrestling going on as we speak. Awesome finals in Greco-Roman 66kg and 77kg. The soccer is still going strong. Did miss the Italy vs Cameroon match, but heard there was some serious controversy in the referee. I'ma try to see that shit later. Also today was womens artistic gymnastics finals iirc. Which is something that is pretty fucking awesome to watch. More fencing aswell. Gymnastis and Fencing being my to latest favorite Olympic sports. And yeah, Tian Jia and Wang got another W in Beach Volley after beating the Norwegian girls. They're looking pretty solid, would mind seeing them moving on and sticking around in the tournament.

The thing is I had seen the 'footprints' already on the news and while watching (the 720p version) tried to find-out how and where they shot them from the roof tops (or wherever) and couldn't really see them during the flying sequence, I skipped back a bit and tried again, still no joy. I found that very strange, including the path of the steps didn't seem to match with the buildings.

So, back to the olympics: Holland is doing not to bad in the judo/wresling departments, again medals there.

Federer came a bit stuck against his opponent today having to win it in a tie break situation on the 2nd set. Haven't watched much tennis until recently and the commentators were mentioning how Federer isn't playing as well as he could do ( :o ) and feels that he might need help from a coach or sports psychologist to help him throught the latter stages of his career. For those that have been following Federer's career, is that true? Is he not playing as well as he has done in the past, and do you feel that he would need professional help?

China's weightlifting team is just unstoppable. Liu Chunhong just broke world records for snatch (128kg) jerk (158kg) and total (286kg) and the difference between first and second was around 30 + kgs. Sounds impressive, until you realise China have a 100% victory thus far and won a gold in every weightlifting match they've competed in, both men's and women's. :o

Holy fuck, the showdown between Poland and Japan in today's Womens Volleyball was a thriller. Saying this without praising the Japanese girls too much, but they should've gotten that W easy. They did get it, but the Polish girls did not lay down without a fight. Also, why haven't anyone told me Polish volleyball players look good, have awesome butts and wears hot pants that are 2 sizes too small?! XD

Also, The Chinese Womens team in Gymnastics Artistics. Wow! 何可欣 might not be older than my newest pair of sneakers, but that girl can do the uneven bars like noone else. I am seriously impressed. Amazing little girl. I do feel bad for Alicia Sacramone of the U.S team tho. She fucking failed twice in the final. :( But! I don't think US and A would've won even if she would have been able to stand those times. China was just better today.

Another great day of Olympics. Totally looking forward to tomorrow! OLYMPICS GO!

Men's gymnastics was also great to watch. Women's judo was incredibly close, with the Chinese fighter only winning it by judges decision.

Lol. First of all Ara is a wrestler not a weightlifter. :D 2ndly, he did it because he didn't want it, because of what happened earlier. The only reason why he even competed in the bronze match was because SOK top dog gave him a motivational speech to "show these muther fuckers" after the complete fuck up by the refs in the semi final. IOC are thinking about taking the bronze from him coz of his action, which Ara has said he's cool with, since he didn't want it anyway. And they got bigger things on their hands, if SOK and Ara continues to pursue justice, things will heat up more since they are 100% right in this issue. What happened is all caught on tape and weather it was; bribes or some personal things doesn't matter. The referee made a major error and couldn't admit it, rather the opposite, he laughed in Ara's face, which was also caught on tape.

Hopefully all of this will shine light on the so very corrupted thing wrestling has become. 'Nuff off bullshit in the Olympics.

Leaving that behind, just watched Walsh and May win their 1/16 game (i think). They were 3 or 4 points behind in the first set, with the Belgians having serious chance to get that first set. But the Belgian girls just didn't have the nerves and fucked it all up. 2nd set was like childsplay for the no 1 team in the world.

Basketball! USA!!! Holy mother fucking lord. The yanks wanted redemption after last years loss in the WC and boy did they get it. Fuck me, the greeks was totally overrun by the oh so more physical american game. And Kobe, Bron, Wade and the boys did treat us on some epic fucking alley oops and stuff. My boy Wade went berserk after missing that whatever it was,  got like 3 or 4 steals in a row. Maybe that's what he need to do to get all rallied up. If the U.S keeps playing like this, then neither Spain nor any other team can stop them. Don't matter that they make less 3-pointers and have a less tactical performance. With that enthusiasm and force they're simply no 1.

Finally, today, the athletics began. I know i'm not the only one who's very excited about that!! Also tune in later tonight (chinese time) for Japan vs Cuba in Volleyball.

And here's Sweden's very own Mix Haxholm, member of the national Archery team and former miss Thailand. Yeah, born in Thailand, raised in Sweden. She can sometimes be seen in the in the JPH!P chatroom where she goes by the name: KoolKat. :inlove:

How do you guys follow the medal tally..

By the number of Gold, Silver, then Bronze Medals
(http://img141.imageshack.us/img141/3306/tally01lu4.jpg)

or

By the Total Number of Medals
(http://img530.imageshack.us/img530/9799/tally02zx8.jpg)

Personally I prefer the top tally..
eg. If one country wins 10 golds, and another country won 11 bronze, surely the one that won the golds were more successful..

But I guess the answer will vary by where your country is placed..

I'm going with the top tally and I'm American...
How can the team with almost twice the amount of golds be behind? But if we really wanted to be fair they could do something like a GPA, but I don't think something like this matters that much.

But China has been dominating almost everything the past couple days except in swimming.

I'm actually getting tired of watching Phelps win cause he's just crushing everyone.

Almost time for track!

Top tally, otherwise a country with just one gold medal, but doing that with like an 8 person team (rowing for example) could shoot up the rankings like mad.

Awesome indvidual women's all-around final earlier today. I did however fall asleep at the end, but I already had a hunch of who's gonna get it. Solid performance by Tian Jia and Wang earlier today also. They're looking seriously good. Both their game and their bodies.

Speaking of tally's. The only one i use is the one on the official beijing site, which have some sort of smart value per medal system iirc: http://results.beijing2008.cn/WRM/ENG/INF/GL/95A/GL0000000.shtml

Don't miss the quarter final in womens soccer in ~40mins between Sweden and Germany. It's gonna be a war!

Awshit! The Gymnastics final (Rings men, Uneven bars women and Vaults men) was fucking great. Super close for all the men in the rings, and close to flawless performances by all of them. And the uneven bars. Holy fucking tama! :O It's an honor watching He Kexin on the uneven bars, such power in her techniques and completely fearless. Nastia was nothing but amazing aswell, and leaving it to the B-judges who scored it 3-2 Kexin (iirc) made it as fucking close as fucking can be.

Gymnastics epicness is seriously WOW! :yep:

Nastia also looks a lot like Kristen Bell XD

some people are complaining that when Usain Bolt was still running to the end, he was pumping his chest, and looking to see if anyone was near him, was abit of a disrespect to the other competitors, and that isnt how you represent yourself as an olympic champion.

^ hmm I can see where they're coming from, but I never really got that impression. He was celebrating, as we would all do when we succeed, to cut that out of any sport would kill the passion of it and many would lose interest.

The greater debate is who is the better athlete Usain Bolt, or Michael Phelps. IMO, humans are more adept at running than swimming, therefore swimming would take the greater level of skill, thereforfore Phelps is better. Usain still rocks though.

I know what i think of Nastia! She has awesome long fine looking legs, and an ass that i'd kill for. I really wanted Shanshan Li to win, she had a great run, and beautiful techniqe. Not as powerful as Loli Johnson, not as calm as Nastia but something inbetween, something in harmony of the technique's she's performing. Too bad on the fall.

Some epic runs in the men's Horizontal Bar also. Did love it, but i'm surprised the yank didn't get it. To me he looked almost as sharp as Kai Zou but more exciting and with more difficult stuff.

Walsh and May.. Won. I've never been as bored in a beach volley game. They're just too good, lol. Hopefully Tian Jia and Wang Jie can put up a fight. They are the only team to beat Walsh/May in the last years.

Also amazing performance by the Nigerian's in their Semi Finale in the Men's soccer. They might be a threat to the winner of Brazil and Argentina.

Holm got eliminated in the High Jump. His dream of two consecutive Olymic Gold medals are over. :(

And I really thought the American should have won the High Bar final. Though Zou Kai didn't do that badly in his run either.

Is that the end of all gymnastic events now?

Touching story this:

Quote

American swimmer Eric Shanteau, who has testicular cancer but postponed his treatment to compete in the Olympics, did not qualify for the men's 200m breaststroke final.

But he was presented with a gold medal yesterday by China's Cancer Rehabilitation Club in recognition of the way he has inspired sufferers with his refusal to be daunted by the disease.

"In the people's mind, you have already won a gold medal of lifetime significance," the club's head, Yuan Zhengping, told Shanteau in front of 200 cancer patients.

Shanteau, who starts treatment next week, was invited back for the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai. "I will look forward to that day by day and meet you there," he said.

Followed by this little arrogant, stupid outburst that you just couldn't make up:

Quote
Jennifer Lopez has reportedly claimed that she is surprised by all the attention eight-time Olympic winner Michael Phelps is receiving.

According to a source at Good Morning America, the singer thought her efforts in training for triathlon were greater than Phelps's swimming gold medal haul.

After filming a TV interview, she apparently said "she couldn't understand why everyone is talking about that swimmer."

The source added: "She couldn't come up with [Michael] Phelps' name, and then she yammered on about how she was the one training for a triathlon just six months after giving birth, and how that was the big story right now, not 'the swimmer'."

Lopez's triathlon will raise funds for Los Angeles Children's Hospital.

A celeb training for triathlon is greater than winning 8 gold medals in the Olympics?

The BMX was pretty good to watch, a nice little addition to the line-up of the Olympics. The women's final produced the most heartache as British cyclist Shanaze Reade was a very close second, only to crash on the final turn and to add injury to insult, looked like she injured her arm and wrist.

Also want to give a shout out to the unsung hotties of the Olympics - those girls that walk out with the competitors holding a sign displaying which country the competitor is from. if anyone knows the correct term for them, that would be great XD Always very pretty

^^ Hell yeah! The hotties with the signs definitly needs some recognition. Who are these lovely ladies?! Every damn sport is worth watching just to see those beauties trip around. Lots of love to them! They're the real heroines of the Olympics.. maybe not but.

And yes! BMX! I haven't really watched the sport much, if any before the Olympics. It's fast paced, intense and fucking brutal. As Tuffty mentioned, there was a pretty nasty fall during the women's final. Didn't get better right after when the dudes were up and 3 out of 8 cyclers fell. Looked fucking nasty. Hope BMX is here to stay. I like it.

The beachvolley is over. No surprise Walsh / May got their gold. One mistake and you're done against them. Tian Jia and Wang Jie did play good tho. They could've done even better but 21 - 18, 21 - 18 is an Ok result imo. Not one set lost for Walsh and May, says it all Congrats. Also congrats to Wang who earns my "body-of-the-tournament" prize. Tall, nice ass and that perfect tan..

Looked to be a thriller in the men's final aswell, but come 3rd set it wasn't even funny anymore. Dalhausser and Rogers made sure they gots the Gold. Dalhausser's blocks. Wow! And 2x USA good job.

USA vs Argentina, Basketball, coming up in less than an hour. I don't think it'll be anything but american domination. You never know tho. That's why this is sports. Anything can happen, anytime. Like Jamaica dropping the stick in the womens 4x100m relay finals, just like USA did in the qualifiers. :O

One of the UK divers is only 14, but they've made no secret of it, always mentioning it in reports, look wow, he's only 14 etc...  Are the age restrictions different for gymnastics and diving then?

^ Yarly, and I remember it being said at the opening ceremony that the youngest competitor was 13 years old, can't remember who they were representing though.

Korea beat Cuba to win the Baseball Gold!  and...
For the South Koreans, this victory provided a big bonus, as 14 of their players had already secured a medal and an exemption from mandatory military service with Friday’s 6-2 semifinal victory over Japan. By law, the South Korean government exempts male athletes who earn any medal in the Olympics from the approximately two years of required duty.

Most were happy to just beat Japan.

Quote from: ESPN

BEIJING -- Cuba's Angel Matos deliberately kicked a referee square in the face after he was disqualified in a bronze-medal match, prompting the World Taekwondo Federation to recommend that he be banned for life.

Pretty good last kick despite being injured.

Last day at the disco! ...and Kobe and the boys did what they was sent out to do. Fucking awesome.

Ending Ceremony is on right now. I feel sad that this have to end. It's been almost 3 weeks of fantastic sports and sport efforts. Seeing back on what has been makes me a bit sad. This have been the most exciting and spectacular Olympics that i've been able to follow closely. And not only that. I don't think there'll be any Olympics in the near future, that's even close to surpassing the spectacle that we've witnessed these weeks.

So it's time to wait another 4 years for the London Olympics. I'm looking forward to it; the sports, the sports- men/women, the efforts, the joy, the sadness and all the ASS!! :shakeit:

^ That's Boris Johnson for you. I always think of him like the embarrasing drunken uncle at a wedding.

Aw I'm sad it's all at an end now. Watching the highlights of the past 2 weeks on the massive screen made me appreciate watching all the medals won, the records broken. Beijing really pulled out all the stops to make it a successful games, which it seems to have been. When they were speaking of the Olympics bringing people regardless of gender, nationality or ethnic origin together, I believed it. You know I wasn't even going to bother with the Olympics a month ago, now I can say I'm glad I took an interest in it as it's probably been the sporting highlight of the year (well ok, perhaps not quite as good as Man Utd win the double :P)

In perspective, London needn't even think about coming close to matching the spectacle that Beijing put on.

I was thinking of trying to make it to London 2012 too. Sounds like a meet in the making! But it also makes me feel bad that I couldn't go to the Beijing one instead.

Sad to see it's over though. This has been the most exciting sporting event for me since I don't really follow sports much. Now I'll probably never turn on the TV for something other than video games for the next few years XD

^ We played a large part in an ongoing illegal war with Iraq, does that count?

Ugh, that ad. I don't mind sporting celebrities advertise stuff, but if it's that cheesy and that blatantly obvious they're in it just for the money, it annoys me quite a bit.

Did anyone download a torrent with the final montage? The one in USA's NBC broadcast during the credits (after Bob Costas spoke)? This one:
