Title: Starting Line On HOLD
Post by: kuro808 on November 08, 2012, 05:15:31 AM
Chapter 1

The sun bloomed in front of her eyes as she watched the hotel front from the building across the street.  The slight breeze from east to west was perfect for a mission of massive proportions.  Reina grew tired of the hideout and just wanted it to be over but her patience was wearing thin waiting for a man that she only met a few days ago.  She knew that boredom would come with the job but never this boring as she lived through the violence of her childhood.

Reina gave up on school when she was sixteen and joined a roaming gang soon after.  She didn't like guns and preferred a small weapon like a knife of a pocket blade.  However, she became incarcerated for her shenanigans and was recruited by a youth corrective program and quickly shot up through the ranks.  Her secret training was under the watchful eye of a group of women, who wanted to promote a better future for women.  In a few months, she had gained a new sense of life and fell in love with the sniper rifle.  Despite her petite size, she became a whiz at putting together and dismantling sniper guns for sniper training and eventually slipping away into the void of the backstreets.

She was expected to shoot at dawn but his delay was growing by the minute as the guards were waiting outside.  Reina was well aware that police could have been on her tail but placed in the back of her mind as she started to focus at the space between the car door and the awning.  The sniper inched back the barrel to conceal its current location and grabbed her binoculars to look down at the guards who were surrounding the car.

"Big men and my gun, winner my gun."  She mumbled as she heard talking from outside and placed her finger onto the trigger.

The target was 180 centimeters with a medium built.  His face was covered with acne and had a scar running down from his right ear to the chin.  He always had sunglasses to hide his eye color but Reina was certain that the target was probably brown based on her educated guess.  However, she loved the fact that he had a target as big as a cow and counted down from three.

"Three... two... one..."  Reina jerked at the trigger releasing a fast bullet square into him.  All she had to hear was gasp and she dismantled her gun into the bag.  In a minute, she escaped the room and took the back exit.

The man held his chest as she struggled to get his next breath with the guards surrounding him.  Guests screamed at the sight of blood flooding out of his body and the pool grew bigger by the second.  The farthest guards ran to the building and climbed the stairs from the side to get to the floor.  The guards intruded into a breakfast wanting to know the identity but the family had no idea what had happened and they pulled stuff from the floor to discover no weapon and exited the room in a hot mess.

The men ran up to the next level to find a door open and walked into the room noticing the open window.  They peeked outside to confirm their suspicions of where the sniper was hiding but the door closed quickly unleashing a myriad of needles from behind the door.  The final trap by the sniper cost two more lives on this trip with the smiles going to the sniper and her backup plan.

Reina was two blocks away from the building when she heard the groans of the trap finally releasing from the package.  A small box with hundreds of needles connected to a charged battery was the best getaway item she had on hand and with a clean getaway she paced west to the rendezvous spot.  She looked up at the sign posted as a convenience store and stood there waiting for a black Toyota to stop in front of her.

She felt her midsection tightening as the fear started to set in hoping no one was after her and as she turned back a car matching the description stopped in front of her.  Reina threw the bag in and took a seat not realizing the bag was on the other woman's lap.  She grabbed the bag and placed it between her legs.  Reina saw the tomato color on her face after the incident as they drove away from the curve.

"Tanaka, you cannot keep throwing your stuff onto my lap because you are tired."  She warned as Reina closed her eyes in the back seat.

"Rika, tell me how good of a job I did."  She replied with an irritated tone.

"It could have been cleaner if you aimed toward the heart rather than the chest but it was a good job."  Reina smiled at the comment but she scooted towards the kitty.  "If I was in your position, the heart would be the last of my concerns."

Rika let out a grand laugh as she awoke the kitty from her nap.  Reina wasn't sure what the interpretation was but knowing the woman, it would have been more brutal than the shot through the chest.

Ishikawa Rika was a woman of many words and wardrobe selections.  She was nicknamed the "blind chameleon" because of her choice of clothing for her missions but wearing black, she was in training mode for the new recruits.  Rika was built as an angel from the sky, she was blessed with many "assets" and using them wasn't difficult for any mission.  Being four years Reina's senior, Rika had a definite advantage in women skills in which she was assigned to teach her.

"Where do you want to go to lunch?"  Rika asked as she rolled down the tinted windows.

"Bentos would be fine."  Reina replied giving Rika a reason to turn towards the recruit.

"I want to treat you good, not like the others.  Lunch is on me anyway, I'll show you a place."  She tapped the recruit on her head.

Reina smiled before dozing off in the cool car.  Rika watched the stores flying by before one caught her eyes and yelled to stop the car, violently waking the kitty up.  Rubbing her eyes, she squinted at her senior to find the reason to wake her up from her nap and felt her arm pop as she got out of the car.  She couldn't believe Rika had dragged her into a clothing store and just followed her as she tried out a few selections to see if it was suitable.  Reina sat on the stool unimpressed with Rika and awoke when it came time to try on one dress.

Reina dragged into the fitting room and changed quickly into the dress.  It was black and wide-strapped at the top with the body contoured to her shape.  She walked out slowly catching the senior's eye with a hiss coming from her mouth.  She just wanted to eat and left everything up to Rika before returning to the car in the dress.

A few minutes later, they arrived at the luxurious Italian restaurant where two men opened each side of the door to let out the female guests into the restaurant.  Rika took the lead into the dining room where it was a ruckus of talking and dropped dishes.  Reina glanced around the room before being dragged away to the private booth on the second floor.  The dimmed lights were perfect for an intimate setting and swiftly tuxedoed men took to their sides.

Rika fell into the man's arms as Reina kept her distance from him with a few reservations about intimate touching between him and her.  He gradually gave into the non-demands and poured her a glass of water for her instead.  The waiter looked at the couples and pointed out the fixed meals for both when he saw the men.  The waiter walked from their table with their orders as Rika signaled for another man.

"If you don't like him, just snap your fingers."  Rika said and Reina snapped it once to excuse the man from his position with another one taking his place.  Reina glanced at the man before collapsing into his grip but became curious as his chest was soft compared to the previous one.  Reina glanced up again and received a smile.

"Don't worry.  I'm here to help you."  The voice had a feminine quality and Reina quickly backed off as Rika was on her third guy.

As Reina stood up, overlooking the rest on the ground.  She saw the events unravel before her and looked over at Rika, who had a smile on her face.  "This is bad."

"Shall we continue this somewhere else, Hitomi-chan?"  She looked at her partner who was ready with her pistol.

"Rika, do you have your weapon?"  Reina's partner asked shocking the kitty who was scared stiff.

"Yes, Maki.  However, we need one for the recruit."  Rika pointed at Reina with a smirk on her face.

Maki handed her a small pistol from her breast pocket as she grabbed her backup on her ankle and went back into position as the intruders walked up the stairs toward the booth.  The three men were masked and about the same height with the guns down to their sides.  The first man approached Rika's side while the other two were on Reina's side of the booth.

"Give us your money!"  The first man demanded as they all raised the weapons in unison.

Rika gave a shy smile and reached into her purse purposely showing her cleavage to the men.  As their eyes turned, Yossie extended her legs hitting the first man's knees.  Maki lunged out catching the two off guard leaving the two others with their weapons drawn at the men.  Yossie corralled the first man, disabling his weapon from his hand.  Maki took on the second man easily leaving the third free to escape.  Reina jumped over the second man and grabbed onto the last man as he tripped forward onto the steps.  Reina slid with him to the bottom and knocked the gun out of his hand.

Rika looked over and gave a thumb up to everyone as the crowd cheered.  Yossie and Maki took their guys and escorted them down to the bottom of the stairs.  Yossie removed the table cloth with ease and wrapped the three men's wrists together quickly before the blaring alarm of police arrived.  The four ran through the kitchen to the waiting car outside in the alleyway.

"That was close."  Rika commented.

Reina was sure that it was a test but if it was real, she felt it was an A plus job on her part to get the last one but the phone ring from inside indicated differently.

Chapter 2

Reina kept to herself during the ride back.  Rika was in her lover’s arms as they began to speak about their successful mission while Maki glinted over to the other side.  Maki was one of the few agents who liked being a lone wolf by choice.  She didn’t like a partner to drag around as she found that they hinder the progress but in situations ask her to become a third wheel to influence the play.

Maki loved it but wondered if it was all worth it in the end.  She turned to Reina again to flash a friendly smile but received an angry glare in return.  She turned back to the outside as her mind wandered on again.

They arrived at headquarters through the underground pathway of a three-story building.  Rika led the way into a long dark, dry tunnel, Yossie and Maki followed behind her leaving Reina to hold up the end.  The youngest was unsure if she could keep up at their pace and rushed blindly until a warm being stopped her.  She wrapped her arms around the being and clamped on feeling that she was leading her down the right path, and continued until a light gave her a view of the being.

“Gomen.”  Reina whispered.

“It’s okay, lucky it is a straight path.”  Maki said with a calm tone.  “Welcome to headquarters!”

Reina spun around looking at the inside of the building for the first time.  It was filled with empty wooden bookshelves that were twice the height of the kitty.  Rika pushed the farthest one away from her opening another portal to the small room lined with computers and a small group with a cake in hand.

“Welcome back crew.”  The tallest of the group greeted as Reina was pushed into the front.

“Hello everyone.”  Reina waved as a short woman confronted her.

“Welcome to the club, Ms. Tanaka Reina.  I’m Takahashi Ai.”  She extended her hand to greet the new recruit.

Ai looked straight at the new recruit and lined herself up with the kitty and gave a kiddish grin to her.  Despite her short stature, she acquired knowledge in combat fighting through martial arts.  She didn’t rank far in the individual arts but spun them together in defense mechanisms to protect all from any attacks.  Ai liked wearing shirts and shorts, which was a direct violation of the dress code but was allowed to because of training.

The next person that confronted the recruit was slightly taller than Ai.  She had curly brown hair and wore traditional polo shirt and jeans as she held her hand up to her head as a salute to her.

“Welcome, I’m Niigaki Risa.”

Risa was a coordinator of the group missions as they came from control.  She was quick to bark but motherly towards everyone as she was concerned for their well-being in their missions.  Her smile was important.  If she didn’t show a smile, fear always ran through the room before she would smile again.  Risa worked closely with Ai as they were assigned trainers for all new recruits that would come through their doors.  However, they lack field work experience which would guarantee them a promotion.

“Hello, I’m Kamei Eri.”

Eri had short brownish hair with a goofy smile that made everyone feel warm in being around her.  Her main priority was to coordinate home base weapons to the people.  Eri was great at doing her job but terrible at organization or by her standard “it was easier for her.”  She loved the supplies that she kept but wasn’t authorized to discharge them at any time.  The agents ordered most of the time unless Risa gave a specific assignment in which she would load the weapons.  Eri didn’t understand why until given the opportunity and released a smoke bomb by accident in the weapons room.  Since then, she kept far away from the room unless escorted.

“So I guess you’re the new recruit?”  The last woman said as she extended her hand.

“Yes, I am.  My name is Tanaka Reina.”

“Michishige Sayumi and you are my student for now.”

Sayu stood out from the group not only because of her height but her ways of getting under people’s skins.  She owned psychological warfare to the point that many couldn’t resist her charms or at least her voice that she can irritate you until people gave into her ways.  Her own training broke down most of the recruits and her plan was to see 100% failure in people.

After the introduction, she dragged the kitty into the dark room behind them and left her for a few seconds before turning the lights on.  The glass room was filled with furniture and two mirrors on either side of the room.  The door closed behind them and Sayu face the mirror aiming her face towards the top and smiled.

“Today, I’m cute!”  She commented before walking to the other mirror and repeated the statement.

Reina sat on the couch waiting for the bunny to end the ploy.  The bunny was quite active and she continued for the next hour lulling the kitty to sleep.  Sayu flashed a peace sign before checking on Reina and drew closer as she heard snoring.  The bunny decided to take a seat and let the kitty’s legs rest upon her lap.  As she started her caress, a voice from the PA system boomed within the room rattling Reina from her nap.

“Sayu, do your job!”  The shrill of the voice irritated the bunny and forced Reina to sit up.

Sayu looked at the two mirrors and faced them towards her.  She stood in front of the mirrors and let the reflections surround Reina.  Sayu started her ploy again and Reina kept her eyes on the left mirror.  The kitty wasn’t aware what the training was but she couldn’t let Sayu have her way again like before.  She started to wonder what she could do to break the repetition and it played out when Sayu turned and broke her concentration.

“Are you paying attention to me?”  Sayu scowled at the kitty.

“Yeah… I was wondering if you have a boyfriend before coming here.”  Reina said with a smirk on her face.

“No why?”

“It’s hard to say that if you had one.”  Sayu closed both of her fists and pushed the mirrors down, instantly breaking them.  She approached Reina with rage and pressed her forehead against hers.

“You are too cute to release my anger against you.”  She whispered.  “Unless you want a punch?”

Reina smirked at Sayu as she raised her fist towards the bunny.  “Shall we fight?”

Sayu pushed the kitty back into the couch and exited the room leaving Reina to ponder what she did and looked up at the ceiling.  Reina began to see if Sayu would return or at least return with a broom to clean up her mess.  As she began to lie down again, the lights went out in the room and was left in darkness for a few minutes before it was turned back on.  Rika appeared with a broom and started to sweep up the mess.

Rika didn’t say anything while she was in the room.  Reina tried following her out but was stopped before she reached the door.  A feeling of guilt built within her as she headed back to the couch.  The lights were turned off again and Reina closed her eyes with the smell of flowers filled the room.

“Thank god we had the floral machine.”  Rika said as the group was huddled around the lone screen.

“She has a lot to learn before we let her go out onto missions again.”  Yossie noted.  The group slowly nodded as the bell in the room went off for dinner.

The group exited the room and walked over to the cafeteria where a trail of smoke was lingering into the air.  Ai witnessed the problem as the oven was the source of the problem and leaving only one instigator to burn their dinner.  She waved the smoke around the room but it didn’t eliminate the burnt smell throughout the room.

“Do we have pizza on speed dial?”  Risa asked as she looked at the sheet of paper for the phone number.

“Hey!  I worked hard to make dinner.”  Eri argued.

After clearing the room, they agreed to order take-out and used the only person above ground to order their food.  It was meant for security reasons as it would be difficult to get the food past through security.  They contacted the person through the open phone and agreed to do it with a condition.  Knowing so, Yossie looked around for a mirror to cheer up the troops.

Half an hour past, when the bell rang for the elevator, Risa ran out to the service elevator, and was stopped two steps into her stride.  She froze as she past her with the Chinese woman holding their meals.

“Niigaki, is our food ready?”  Yossie called as she turned to find the new recruit standing next to Jun, their outside coordinator.

“How did you escape?”  Ai asked with the look everyone shared.

“The couch led down to an underground tunnel and led me back to the first floor where I met Junjun, who had dinner.”  She explained.  “Sorry for the person who wanted the unagi bento.”

Sayu looked away for a moment as she avoided eye contact with either of them but Reina walked up and faced her.  She gave a stare back at the kitty before turning back to the group.  They were still in shock as they tried to figure it out and it had to been a fluke that someone knew about the secret tunnel.  The first test was a weeding of new recruits but a few would pass if they knew a way out of the room, which usually helped if you worked in pairs but never alone.

“I wanted the unagi bento.”  Eri said softly.

Jun offered hers as a treat and placed the rest on the table in the middle of the group.  Yossie thanked the Chinese woman as she went back up the service elevator.  The rest were still in shock that Reina escaped the room but finally Rika broke the silence with applause for the kitty.  Everyone got into it except for Sayu, who was still bugged by the situation and tried to see if there was a breach of the doors.  She left the room to assess the room with everyone glad that someone past the first test of many to become a full member.

Chapter 3

Her next test came a few days later with Eri and the weapons.  Despite her lackadaisical personality, her weapons knowledge was the best among the group although she rarely had a chance to fire them except on the occasion to train a new recruit in marksmanship.  Eri took her into another back room where the guns were laid out in a row based on the bullet size.  Reina noticed her weapon of choice was not part of the selection and turned her head often to Eri.

“Don’t like to shoot?  I thought you killed before.”  Eri said with a smirk.

“I don’t do close combat because it is too dirty for my taste.”  She replied as Eri loaded a magazine into the pistol.

“Well I’ll lead you with this; you just have to be more accurate than me.”  Eri said with a smile as she put her earmuffs on before shooting and Reina followed hoping that she doesn’t shoot the wrong direction.

Eri carefully aimed towards the target and unloaded ten bullets quickly.  The paper target came forward and was amazed by her work.  Reina concentrated more towards the head and slowly brought it to the chest area before pulling the trigger.  She felt the gun uncoil in her hand and her hand slipped upwards giving the ceiling two bullets holes.

“I guess you were right.”  She commented as the target looked like she connected the dots rather than a general aim at the location.  Reina placed another magazine in and put a new target up for her.  She closed her shoulders closer to prevent the rebound from taking off her aim and looked at the target once again.

Reina pulled the trigger and caught her back foot from slipping but it trailed up again hitting the paper target three times in the head.  She threw it to the ground in front of them and released the final blank into the cement wall throwing Eri over the counter and onto the saw dust on the other side.  She slowly arose from the shavings in her hair and climbed over to notice the black residue a foot from the floor.

“I guess we shall move onto our automatics.”  Eri said as she placed the magazine into the compartment and placed the butt of the rifle onto her shoulder.  She positioned her left foot half a foot in front of the right and bended her knees to stay in a stable position.  She pulled the trigger after a soft three count and unleashed the bullets into the fresh paper scattering it into pieces.  Eri laid the gun down and lifted her right pointer.

“Reina the best thing to do is lower the weight to prevent the recoil.  I’ll be behind you while you shoot but you seem prepared with the loading so we can bypass that.”  She said as she moved behind the kitty and shaped her legs into the proper position.

She wasn’t accustomed to her hands being around her legs as she was sensitive.  She shook a little while keeping the gun upright.  She lifted her thumb up and Reina pressed down on the trigger.  It took her a centimeter back but it kept her from trailing upwards into the ceiling.  Reina laid the hot gun down onto the counter and raised her arms up with a smile.

“You need to learn all of these guns before taking off to another mission.  Unless it involved reconnaissance, we just have to gather information.”  Eri explained.

Reina rubbed her chin as she pondered over her words.  “What about my sniper skills?”

Eri grinned at the question and let her out of the firing range without answering her question.  The armory was a floor below the firing range and could only be accessed by a password-driven elevator.  Eri punched in the six digit code and the motor growled to send them down to the floor below.  It ran at a snail’s pace and a violent stop led to the door opening to vast collection they held.

Reina’s eyes were as wide as watermelons with the walls lined with guns ranging from the pistols to the semi-automatics.  The back was scattered with loose parts and the far right corner had boxes filled with ammunitions and live grenades.  Eri looked at the clipboard and turned back to Reina with a confused look.

“Did you bring the gun back?”  Reina mumbled about the possible location and then the suitcase appeared by the elevator.

Eri ran to the elevator and retrieved while holding her unusual smile.  “I forgot that I supposed to bring it back in.”

“Anyways, is there anything else I should do down here.”  Reina asked as Eri placed the suitcase onto the counter and unloaded the gun pieces onto the counter.

“Clean the gun, I’ll show you.”  Eri said with a cleaning brush in hand.  “You are responsible for cleaning whatever you use.”

Reina nodded as she observed the cleaning routine.  The barrel was the first item she grabbed and scrubbed the inside while rotating every second releasing black residue onto the counter.  Eri used the brush to gather into a small pile and grabbed the black trash bag to sweep it into it.  She placed the cleaned barrel to the side and held the white cloth in her hand as the handle was being cleaned.  After the handle, Eri dusted off the rest and placed into the mold set for the gun.

Eri looked over the clipboard again and walked by the guns to check off the list in front of her.  Reina watched Eri looked over her list and a voice came over the PA system.

Kamei and Tanaka, please report to the meeting room one.  Kamei and Tanaka, please report immediately.

Eri shut the door behind and locked it down before taking the elevator back up to the main floor.  Eri led the kitty to the meeting room where the group was sitting in a half-circle around a large white screen.  Rika was on the right side and a mysterious older woman was on the left when the door closed behind the group.  Rika took a seat in the front as the meeting started leaving Reina to find the empty chair in the back.

“Welcome everyone, we are here to brief you on a small mission.”  She said in a deep voice as the new recruit raised her hand.

“Sorry for bothering the meeting.”  Reina stood as she held her hand up before putting it down to her side.  “Who are you?”

The group put their heads down to their knees leaving Reina a clear view of the elder woman.  She presented a smirk before walking up to the kitty with a calm demeanor.

“I’m Nakazawa Yuko, leader of this group and informer to the police.”  She introduced herself.  “You are Tanaka Reina, the new sniper.  I’ve heard that Rika has put you through training in case of emergency but in my honest opinion, you have an important role with us.  Since, we have introduced ourselves, please take a seat.”

Reina sat back down, hiding in the back of the group, with everything settled, Nakazawa continued on with her briefing.  “Rika and Yossie know that the Yamashita group has been a thorn lately to the police.  The unusual killings and assassination attempts have been rising with new leadership.”

“Who is the new man?  Didn’t we kill Rico Suan?”  Risa questioned.

“Yes, we did but we had lost a sniper in battle.  The new guy is Yamashita Ichiro.  The first son has gained control of the business.”  The heads nodded as they analyzed the picture.  The group wrote down the tattoos that he possessed onto his body.  The notes were of value in case they were in any situation involving the suspect.

“Yamashita must be dangerous.”  Ai commented.

“Indeed he is.  However, we may need to do more research on him.”  Nakazawa said in a low voice.

“What is the plan, Nakazawa-sama?”  Yossie turned off the projector and turned on the lights in the room.

The room was switched into a war room with one long table in the middle of the room with three to each side and two at the ends.  Nakazawa and Rika took the ends.  To the right of the room, Risa, Ai, Maki, and Sayu sat in a neat row while across of them Yossie, Eri, and Reina were relaxed in their seats as Nakazawa took out the manila folder and handed out the plan to each of them.

The group flipped through each of the pages, reading every single detail of the plan, and carefully analyzed the floor plan as usual.  Reina stopped at the floor plan and read through the path that was directed from Nakazawa.  She lifted her finger up high enough to catch the leader’s attention.

“Yes, Tanaka.”

“Is the roof not an option?”  Nakazawa got to the floor plan and rubbed her chin.  Rika flipped to the floor plan and began to realize the flaw of the blueprint.

“To be honest, the roof is a problem.  There is no way to get there unless we risk another person.”  Nakazawa said with a pained expression.

Reina knew that the roof is very important for infiltration and she could find a weak spot if she did try to find out but the risk was high as Nakazawa pointed out.  Rika looked at the blueprint again and shook her head as the flawed blueprint would be disastrous if Reina didn’t point it out.  She glanced over at Nakazawa who was pounding the table vigorously while a few unmentionable words escaped her mouth.

The rest were quiet about the flaw and looked at Nakazawa to seek an answer before moving onto the mission.  After a few minutes, Nakazawa looked at the plans again and closed her hand into a fist and dropped it to the table.

“Reina, you are the only person who can do this.”  She said in a soft voice.  “I need you to take this chance to prove you are worthy.”

Rika looked over to her and saw the expression of a failed leader.  She wasn’t sure what to say but in the back of her mind, it was a suicide mission.  If successful, Reina would be the one to get the information to reveal the final piece to a successful mission.  Failure would mean a problem.  The pressure was within the room until Yossie grabbed her partner’s shoulder.

“I have a plan.”  She said with a grin.

“What is it?”  Rika asked as she grabbed Nakazawa’s attention.

“Ichiro has a soft spot for underage girls.”  She highlighted with a yellow marker.

“Reina can pass as one.”  Ai commented.

“Do you think it can work?”  Risa stood as Eri and Sayu were staring at each other.

“Sayu, you are going to bring her in by using your charms.”  Rika commanded.

Sayu nodded as the plan was being drawn up on the chalkboard.  The duo ran through the steps and looked at the clocks.  Twenty-four hours was the time period for them and to put it all together was risky but the reward seemed too sweet to pass up.

Chapter 4

The group agreed in an hour how to bring Reina into the building and escape with a path leading up to the roof.  In hopes of achieving the plan, they had gotten in contact with Jun on the first floor to visit a friend.  As they waited, they turned to Sayu and Reina with a complex matter, the transformation for each of them.  The agreement force Reina to look young.  Her slender body and her lack of assets brought her into a role of a child compared to Sayu, who was matured appearance wise.  They were forced to make her look older.

Sayu threw out ideas like grenades to avoid the situation but was quickly shot down by everyone.  Ai and Risa went to work on designing makeup to show both appearances.  With less than twenty-four hours, they seemed to disagree on the minor items for both sides and for the group it seemed like wasting money to just talk about it.  Ai went to Sayu's room as Reina had Risa to do the makeup.

Ai began to question how to avoid Sayu's mannerisms in the event that she would see in the mirror the horror that she wanted to create but shook off the idea as she turned the mirrors away from her.  Despite her whining, Ai tied her hair back exposing the fair skin complexion she possessed and lightened the tone to a near-white before looking into her kit for fake wrinkles around her mouth and started to work back the darken matter.

"Ai-chan, I have a confession."  She spoke with the side of her mouth.

"What is it?"

"Do you believe Reina came make it?"  Ai smiled as she dug through her bag.

"She can do it but I don't know what will happen to her."  Ai responded with the fear growing over her.

Sayu tilted her head down as she pondered about it more and the door flew open catching the two women by surprise.

"It looks really good Sayu."  Rika commented with Sayu ballooned up her cheeks.

After the final touches, Sayu got to see herself in the mirror and frowned at it but was happy Ai didn't make her look terribly old.  They turned over to wardrobe and took out a black blouse and skirt.  She slipped it on quickly and the image was complete.  The material was smooth as Sayu began to stare at the mirror more and practiced her lines.  She was in character but the fact that she needed to stay confident throughout the visit to accomplish their mission.

Reina was simpler than her counterpart.  She needed very little makeup but the challenge was to turn her into a child.  Risa had little wardrobe for the idea but luckily had a school girl's uniform.  Reina stripped down to her underwear and Risa saw a problem immediately and dug through the intimate items to find some stuff for her.

"That is so childish, teens wear what I'm wearing."  She whined as she received the underwear.

"Well, we gotta be safe."  Risa said cautiously as Reina went behind the curtain to change and slid the uniform on quickly.

Reina wasn't sure what to call it but the logo seemed to be faded and the skirt was dusty.  She twirled around once releasing the dust from the skirt and spreading it throughout the room.  She looked at it once and shook her head.  "I think we may need a new one."

The uniform was not holding up well to her active movements.  Risa exited the room to go to other wardrobe room and found the new uniform in plastic packaging.  Reina ripped the packaging and tried it on with reservations about the purple color.  The logo seemed cheap but with hopes that no one would ever see it.  The skirt barely covered her behind which gave her a nervous smile as they went out to reveal the disguise.

The group clapped at the duo's work as Jun came into the room with a shorter woman with a jumpsuit on.  Jun entered the room seeing the two and stared to her left at the older woman.  She slowly walked up to her as the eyes began to scan up and down.  Sayu was impressed that someone was attracted to her clothing.  Jun stopped before reaching her and grabbed a pair of black glasses to put on the bunny.

"There we go, now she looks like a mature woman."  Jun mumbled as she pushed the shorter woman in front of her.

"Hello everybody, I'm Qian Lin.  You can call me Linlin."  She spoke in a soft voice.

Linlin was a commercial flight pilot by trade but her schooling was meant for rescue missions.  She passed the simulations with flying colors but as a female, they disregarded her as a pilot in general.  She proved them wrong as a co-pilot of a 747 heading into Shanghai when the pilot has suffered a near-fatal heart attack in the air.  She landed onto the runway with only 20 feet to give and she was given a medal of bravery but her many pundits still disregard her as not a pilot and moved to Japan for better opportunities.

She acquired a Japanese pilot's license and began to assist in tours around Mt. Fuji scenic crater.  Two years had passed since leaving for Japan and she still couldn't acquire enough to live comfortably.  It was Junjun who promptly invited her to the group down below as a job opening under "Morning Airways."  Jun didn't ask a lot about her background but she knew Linlin would hold her water in danger.  She looked at the two and liked the Reina outfit more than Sayu's disguise.

After the introduction, Linlin got briefed about the mission and quickly accepted it with any questions.  She looked at the picture and began to map out the area surrounding the building.  Linlin felt that she needed to do a dry run but security was her number one concern.  She left the room with the basic details and asked for a return trip to the first floor.

"Jun, you can go back."  Sayu commanded as the Chinese woman returned a frown.

"You look so sexy, Michishige-san."  Jun said as the group was snickering behind.

"Thank you, but you must take care upstairs before people start to figure that there is nobody manning the front table."  Sayu said as the laughter died down.

Sayu walked back into the room and changed back into her normal clothing.  She grabbed the clothing for tomorrow and headed for the dorms without speaking to the rest of the group.  Reina stayed in her disguise for a while as she took a walk through the passageways and began to map out her mind for the mission.  She reflected about the mission and the possible failures that could happen as a precaution to make every move perfectly.

"Reina... did you have dinner yet?"  The soft voice asked.

Reina spun around quickly catching Eri trying to shield her face with her right hand.  Eri held out a paper bag for her as she avoided eye contact with her.  Reina grabbed the bag and saw two sandwiches.  Her stomach wasn't growling as much as before, so she only took one giving the other sandwich back to Eri.

"Thank you, Reina."  She said.

Reina unwrapped the sandwich from the wrapper and bit into the front unleashing a sour odor through her nose.  The middle oozed a dark red color and she dropped it to the table fearing she had bit her tongue.  She saw the red appearing everywhere around the mouth but no source of the pain.  Reina started to chew and figured out that the flavor was of ume.  Eri, in no time, consumed the sandwich and threw her wrapped into the trash can.

"Why didn't you tell me it was ume-flavored burgers?"  Reina shouted.

"I thought you liked it..."  Eri replied as she grabbed Reina's sandwich.

Reina courteously spat out the burger into a napkin and tossed it into the trash can.  She ventured to the refrigerator looking for edible food but no luck there and walked back to the dorms where she saw a figure blocking the door.  Reina took a step closer to the figure and saw her arms come out like an octopus and snatched her from the light into the dark room.

“Let go of me.”  Reina commanded with her arms crushing the kitty.

“Never!  I won't let you go until you past this test.”  She whispered into Reina’s ear.

“Why not?  Nakazawa said I don’t have to go through all this.”

“This is not under training for us, this is special for any moment when it comes down to an intimate moment.”  Reina bent her right arm and elbowed the person into the abdomen.  Reina heard a grunt as she fell to the floor and took a step back to hit the lights and found Sayu holding her midsection.

“I guess you pass.”  Sayu breathed.

“That is something every woman should know and as for tomorrow, I can take care of it on my own until the rendezvous point.”  Reina picked Sayu up from the ground.  “However, thanks for training me.”

Reina walked into her room and closed the door behind her.  She was genuinely happy that she was on the force but somehow her past was catching up with her.  The elbow felt weak in comparison to her street sense and letting Sayu grabbed her felt like vulnerability to her armor.  She hoped tomorrow wouldn’t be as bad as tonight, twelve hours until mission time.

Chapter 5

“I can’t believe you are leaving us.”

“It won’t be long.  I’ll find my way back here.”  Reina winked to the group.

“They are giving you money to do small jobs.”

“I’ll be back.”

Reina awoke to the sound of bell ringing through the building.  She rolled out and put on her slippers as she stuck her head out to the hallway.  The women ran out and turned right to the main room.  Reina dragged herself into the main room with her pajamas on and saw everyone lined up in a straight line.  Reina took the final spot in line as Yossie stood in front of the group.

“Good morning everyone.”  She greeted with her strong tone knocking the cobwebs out of many of the people.  “As you know, we will have meeting every hour for discussions.  Reina and Sayu will be the agents on the ground tonight so let them stay involved as much as possible.”

“Do we have breakfast?”  Rika asked as Jun was prepping the table behind her.

“Yes, we are having take-out again.”  She looked behind her.  “It will be our only food for the time being.”

Yossie pointed her finger forward and the group lined up on the right side of the table with disposable plates in hand.  Most of the selections were pastries but at the end was a bowl of rice and eggs which Reina grabbed two scoops of them before walking to the dining table.  Reina tilted her head to the side as she scooped the eggs and stared at it at eye level.

“Are you still sleepy?”  Eri stepped into the sight of the kitty as her head slammed onto the table.

“I guess she is.”  Ai stepped in as she removed the plate from the table.

Reina looked up to notice her plate was gone but felt no rush to discuss her feelings with the group as they stared back at her with no remorse what so ever.  She left the table to return back to the dorms where Sayu was by the door giving her a smirk as she held out an apron.

“We have kitchen duty for lunch.”  She said in a smooth manner.

“Okay… so what are we making?”

“We just prep silly woman.”  She tilted her head up towards the ceiling.  “Jun will get us lunch.”

Reina grabbed the apron and headed back toward the dining hall where she saw the boxes of vegetables stacked crisscross in front of the swinging door.  She carried the top box into the kitchen and unloaded the box filled with potatoes onto the table.  The bulbs started to roll all over the place but it stopped close to the edge.  She looked for a peeler and grabbed the first tuber to peel off the dirt brown skin.  Her wrist was like lightning as the strips flew into the trash bag with ease.

Sayu stomped into the kitchen to grab the potato and held it above her head.  The vegetable flew towards the kitty quickly but a lucky stab prevented the damage and a smirk appeared on her face.  The bunny was quick to react with another potato but felt the weight preventing her from throwing it again.

“Sayu, please help her.”  Yossie calmly instructed her as she handed her a peeler.  “Also, Jun is on assignment so you can’t get out of kitchen duty that easily.”

Sayu watched her leave the kitchen as she dragged an empty trash bag with her and took a seat next to her partner as she pressed down hard on the peeler and shaved a large brown spot.  Reina’s rhythm made her eyes spin as she gripped onto her potato hoping she could keep up but once she finished the first side, the next became difficult to grip and it flew across into the dishwasher.  Hearing the gears grind, Sayu rushed over to stop it before it broke down.

Reina continued on without fail as she got the last one of the box done and walked back for the next box.  Sayu looked into the pail of peeled potatoes and gritted her teeth at the sight.  She came back with the box of lettuce and dropped it onto the table where Sayu had approached her.

“You did a horrible job with the potatoes, I have to report you.”

“Sorry, maybe I’ll do better next time.”  Reina grinned at the bunny as she unloaded the heads onto the table.

Reina began to line them up with a careful eye with the largest of the bunch towards her left and the smaller ones on the right.  She snagged the knife from the steel plate and carved them into bite-sized pieces.  She didn’t expect anyone else to interfere as Sayu just watched her prep when Rika walked in holding a carrot stick in her hand.

“Great job on the vegetables so far, Reina.  Sayu has been helping you?”  She shrugged her shoulders as Rika bit into the crunchy orange piece.

“I guess not.  It isn’t surprising that she won’t do it.”  Rika said in a low voice irritating the bunny as the second in command passed her.

Sayu grabbed her by the shoulder and swung her around like a hurricane giving her a stare.  Rika slowly chewed the stick as she began to read Sayu’s expressions.  As usual, it was an easy sign of her displeasure but she had to ignore the stare to make a bigger scene.  Rika turned away and looked up at the clock.

5…4…3…2…1

“Rika!  Why do you praise her?  She isn’t one of us yet.”  She yelled before closing the distance.  “Just because she’s a sniper, it doesn’t mean she can’t train to be a full agent.”

“Agent or not, we have to accomplish our mission.”  Rika turned away leaving the duo in the kitchen.

The next hour flew by quickly for the kitty as she had her bowls prepared with the separate vegetables and lined it up in front of her with Sayu pondering over the cutting board.  She lifted the knife above her head before striking it down to the board.  She turned around to see the neat line of bowls before walking towards the sink.

“Why do you have the easy way out?”  She said in a soft tone.

“I intend to go through training but I am a piece of the puzzle you guys need.”  She stated as she walked over to wash her hands.  “I may not be even here for a long period of time.”

Sayu tilted her head away from Reina as the words were being processed in her mind.  It seemed crazy that anyone would be invited just be sent out to the public.  Then, she was being sent into an operative situation with little training, Sayu wondered if she was trained beforehand in the academy, and then the leaders not worrying about the person they brought in.  It seemed to perfect for a spy.  Sayu sneaked out of the kitchen and headed down the hallway.

She slipped through the last door on the right and switched on the computer.  A bright light hit her face quickly as the first prompt came up to press her hand on the board.  A green-lettered phrase appeared in front of her before she moved onto the next security blockage.  She leaned forward and saw the laser ran over her eyes opening the next level.  She pronounced her name slowly to finally reach the search engine.  She typed out the name and locked the door behind her.

A list of her past came onto the screen.  The last was two pages long filled with every piece of her story without the emotional glue and she sat back in her chair with her hand on her chin.  One page of her antics was good for her but she moved to the next page and pointed at the item that caught her eye.  She printed out the information and shut down the computer before leaving the room.

She ran to the front and placed the document in front of the group.  Yossie and Rika looked at each other as the rest ran through the documents.  Yossie dragged Sayu away from the chaos with a stern demeanor.

“What’s your point?”

“She’s a criminal.”

“It doesn’t matter, she won’t leave.”

“She can screw us over on the missions, tonight she can…”  Rika swung her open hand across her face leaving a red mark.

“She can’t do it because you won’t fail me.”

“What do you mean?”  Sayu held her cheek.

“We cannot tell you because you need to make this work and letting it go will cost us this person.”  Yossie brushed the bunny’s hair away from her forehead and ripped the document.

“It doesn’t mean anything.”  Rika instructed as Reina was looking at the group.

“Tanaka-san, please get ready we are four hours away.”  Yossie ordered.  “Everyone else, get ready for drop off.”

Reina felt her hands get moist as she looked up at the clock.  The mission was a test she had to pass.  Nakazawa was on her mind for a good reason.  The rider needed the horse and if she was going to be a thoroughbred, she had to perform at an optimal level.  Rika and Yossie winked at her to show their confidence.  She took a deep breath and spat out a prayer before putting on her costume.

Chapter 6

Reina, do you think we have a chance?

I assure you that we won't get caught.

I don't know about this

Calm down, just go ahead.

Reina woke up feeling her head was weighed down by a boulder.  She stared at the threads of the couch and counted the individual strands with her finger breaking the loose ones off.  Two hours away from show time with impatience growing within her.  Doubts build during the days, hours, minutes, seconds before the mission but only the kitty started to worry.  She began to look around the room observing the wall's peeling paint and bare flooring.  A loud knock broke her concentration on the floor.

"Who is it?"

"Yossie, we need to speak."  The knocking stopped as Reina arrived at the door with her costume on.

"Kawaii!~  you look like a lolita."  Yossie began to pull on the skirt.

"What's the problem?"

"I have a stomachache at the moment and I need you to soothe it."  Yossie closed the door behind her as Reina stood clueless at the door.

"Do you need water?"  Yossie shook her head with a smile.

"I just need you to be safe."  Yossie extended her hand and dragged her into a bear hug.  "Trouble comes at any time, bail at any moment."

"I will do as much as I can."  Yossie flashed a grin before leaving the room.

Sayu entered right after Yossie left and grabbed Reina by the wrist like a handcuff before using her whole strength to toss her into the wall.  Reina heard a few of her bones popped as she peeled herself from the wall.  Without explanation, Sayu threw her body towards Reina crushing her into the wall.  She felt the pain run through her body as she went into a seating position.

"What was that for?"  Reina yelled.

"Training for your character."  She said in a stern voice before lifting her off the floor and slammed her right hand across her face.

Reina fell quickly to the ground feeling that stinging pain as Sayu continued with a few kicks to her chest and ribs.  As she started to maintain her defense, Reina could anticipate the blows and used her hands to deflect most of it but it seemed to get stronger every minute.  After a few more, Sayu turned towards her hind quarters and unleashed another set of five open handed blows.

Reina watched the stream of blood slowly draw from her lips as the assault drew to an end.  She rolled over to see Sayu hovering over her with an evil smirk on her face.  As she got to her fours, Reina reached out for her blade that was under the couch.

"Am I a tortured high school student?"  She asked as she got to her fours before standing up.

"Sort of, but I'm known to torture as my character, so it works out for me."  Sayu smiled.

Reina followed Sayu out into the hallway as the group was setting up for control.  Yossie swung her head around, noticing the two in character, seeing Reina with the bruises and cuts satisfied her image but she wondered about its effects.  She walked up to the kitty to examine the injuries and pressed on it to feel out the seriousness.

“Reina, are you able to pull through?”  She asked as she grabbed the medical kit.

“It stings but it seems alright.”  She replied.

Yossie flashed an okay sign to them before heading into the garage with Rika.  She looked at the two elder women for confidence and each gave a smile back as Rika took the driver’s seat and Sayu stepped into the passenger’s seat.  Reina went to the back and laid out flat to avoid the attention of her injuries.  She looked up at the afternoon sky wondering if the weather would change with the clouds’ position.  However, they quickly entered a tunnel and stopped the car.

“Reina, you see the rope?”

“Yeah.”

“Okay, I’m going to tie your wrists but before I do that stick your weapon into your underwear.”  Sayu instructed.

“What if they pat me down?”

“They won’t do it because they are money hungry.”  Sayu informed the kitty.  “Even if they do, I can cover until I can stock you into the back room.”

Reina slowly nodded at the plan with Sayu heading to the back seat.  Rika started the car up again and drove towards the location as Sayu began to constrict her wrists tight enough to hold them in place.  Sayu sat straight up after tying up her hands shading Reina from the outside.  Tanaka was aware that the plan may take a while to develop and hoped that it would go smoothly.  The group suddenly heard a helicopter going from the east and followed it to the house.

The mansion was a huge two story blue house with a flower garden in front.  It had a steel gate in the front with an overhead camera viewing towards the driver.  Rika was knowledgeable about the Yamashita clan and used the name “Saeko” when she addressed them.  After passing through the gate, a middle-aged man with side-combed black hair approached the driver side window.  He flashed a smile to the two in the back as Rika drove off to the mansion’s entrance.

She stopped in front of the mansion letting the concierge open the door to let out the two.  Sayu pushed Reina out first before standing behind her to block the view before proceeding inside.  The interior was all white with two staircases leading to the next floor.  The left was the dining area and the kitchen.  Sayu noticed that the area wasn’t set up and were going to the right where Ichiro and his companions would meet about their daily observations.  Sayu dragged her to the right where two security guards scanned over the two before walking over to Sayu to pat her down.  The guard nearest to Reina looked over the petite woman and extended his hand out before getting it slapped away by Sayu.

“No touching the prostitutes.”  Sayu scolded as the guard bent his neck forward.

“Sorry, Ms. Okamoto.”

“Ichiro will know about this but I’ll give you this because you have been doing well.”  She handed him an envelope filled with thousand yen notes.

After passing the guards, Sayu turned left into the open door where the people welcomed Sayu into the room.  Sayu moved through the crowd with Reina leading the way.  Ichiro stood at the back of the room grabbing his thick black beard while holding a glass of white wine.

“Okamoto Sazue, welcome to my party!”  He greeted with his deep, husky voice.

“Ichiro-san, I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”  Sayu extended her hand as Reina observed every part of him.  “Here’s my gift to you.”

“You spoiled me a lot, Okamoto-san.”  He laughed with his big hand on her shoulder.  “You know where to take her.”

Sayu nodded as she dragged Reina through the closed door and into the empty hallway.  The faint sound of girls grew louder as they approached the door.  Reina started to reach into her underwear but Sayu knocked her hand away.  Sayu pulled on the material to release the knife and cut halfway through it before sticking her into the room.  Reina pulled her wrists apart but it didn’t seem to budge her way and jerked the hands around before loosening up the rope for her escape.

She opened the door to get out of the room but kept it slightly ajar.  Reina held the weapon in her hand as she scanned the hallway.  It was filled with dust and boxes as she started to step through the area.  She tried to place the map into memory but it didn’t seem to make any sense and sneaked into another room.  She grabbed the chain from the top and pulled it down to open up the path to the next level.  The wooden floors were creaking with every step she took but luckily it didn’t break down fast as she climbed the steps.

The next level seemed like a basement filled with different items.  Her curiosity carried to an open box of semi-automatic weapons and ammunition.  Reina snagged one and threw it over her shoulder as she got three rounds to go with it.  She noticed the stairs heading up to another undisclosed location that she had forgotten and noticed the door leading to outside.

A helicopter was on the helipad with no pilot in sight.  However, she saw a man on patrol overlooking the front lawn.  Reina loaded the first round into the semi-automatic gun and took aim at the guy.  Once her target was on the guy, she tapped the trigger lightly before pressing down on it.  The guy tumbled over the wall and revealed the rendezvous pilot of the evening.

Lin revved the engine before taking off from the platform.  Reina didn’t notice any guards looking up at the sky and headed back to headquarters.  She looked over at the pilot to see what the plan would be but with her concentration on the controls, she started to draw out the roof the best she could.  Half an hour later, Reina landed on top of the building and headed to the elevator shaft with paper in hand and took it down to the final level.

@yellow: well everyone has access to the computer it was just she knew what she was looking for.  As for Reina's past, we'll be going by chapters

Chapter 7

"Nee, Tanaka-san.  You sure you can get down there."

"Cats learn how to fall on their fours genetically."

"Tanaka-san, be careful."

"Don't worry, Nishiyama-kun.  I'll be back."

Reina arrived at the bottom floor with the blueprint in hand.  She exited the elevator to find Jun standing in front with a towel resting on her neck, smiling at her, and holding onto a bag in her hand.  She entered the elevator without saying any words and took it up.  She ventured through the dark, damp cave with the stings of the abuse clouding her mind.  Reina halted her progress, feeling the air thicken around her.  She began to wonder if she went down the wrong tunnel with the dark tunnel giving her the chills.

"Tanaka-san, are you here?"  The voice called out.

She wasn't sure who it was but the blade was taken out for protection hopefully the opponent didn't have a bigger weapon.  Reina walked slowly towards the sound, hearing it get louder with every second.  She could hear the footsteps after about a minute and finally a light came to her vision.  Reina clasped the blade in her hand and started to run without visualizing the path, thrusting through the air.  Her arm stopped midway as she opened her eyes.

"Reina!  You should have entered through the other door."  Eri said as she pointed towards the entrance through the long tunnel.

"There was no door."  Reina replied as Eri took the lead with her light.

The duo backtracked to the entrance of the tunnel, turned left to find a mossy wall.  Eri pushed the wall with her body to open the door to the meeting room.  Yossie and Rika glanced at the two for a few seconds before looking back at their computers.  The door automatically went back to its original position with the group typing furiously.  Goto approached Reina with her outstretched arms and gave her a hug.

"Glad you made it back."

"Thanks."

Reina strode over to Yossie to find her deep into the computer screen.  She let out an audible grunt to get Yossie to turn.  Reina handed the paper over to her in which she unrolled it to let Rika analyze it for her.  A few minutes in, Rika pointed out an area on the lower right side and turned towards Reina.

"This door is oddly place don't you think?"  She said catching the attention of Yossie.

"It was how it was."  Reina explained as Yossie stepped between them.

"Rika, we can fix the details but if it is that way, we have to approach it."

"I don't want to be setup into a bloodbath."  She commented as she closed the computer down.

The group closed their computers and headed towards the dining area with a stack of bentos in front of them.  Reina observed the group, noticed the lone person missing, and ran towards the dorm where she saw the lone door that was closed.  She reached for the knob to notice it was locked and calmly knock on the door.  After a few seconds, she knocked harder to get the woman to open the door.

"What do you want Reina?"  She said in an annoying tone.

"Let's go eat dinner."

"I'm not hungry at the moment."

"You sure?  I came back alive at least we should celebrate."  Reina slid by her preventing the door to close on her.

"It's okay but you have to get out of here."  She warned as she brushed her long black hair away from her shoulder.

Reina noticed the mirrors around the room and how it faced toward the middle.  The only light on was the lamp on top of a cluttered table.  Sayu looked ready for bed rather than dinner but it didn't stop Reina from venturing around the room.  The furniture wasn't relatively new but seemed in good shape.  She grabbed the knob and slowly turned it but felt her wrist being clamped down before leaving.  The kitty swung her head around finding her hand was in a wrist lock.

"Why are you holding me?"

"I needed to know if you have a favorite person within the group."  She said with her grip slowly loosening.

Reina knew what the answer was and what the answer should be but she kept her lips pursed until Sayu had no control over her wrist and escaped into the main room. She took a seat on the couch, keeping her eyes on the white ceiling above her.  There was nothing to say to the world; the wounds stung a bit and the adventure took most of her energy from her body.  Yet, she seemed bothered by a simple question that would be brought up in a primary school situation.

Sayu returned to her desk with a printout of the criminal acts committed by Tanaka Reina.  At age 12, she was booked for petty theft.  At thirteen, she was caught blackmailing a politician about his son's conduct with her.  Then, she had a period of no activity which was related with a stint in juvenile detention.  After her release two years ago, she disappeared from the radar.

She wrote out a timeline of the crimes and observed the pattern lay out in front of her.  Sayu wasn't aware of the hirings of her colleagues but she did dig into their lives before and found most had a background in defense training, which Reina had none.  The group was police-trained so there wouldn't be any unnecessary actions put forth against them but Reina had no such training.  Finally, Reina's profile was mostly blank which would even throw a caution towards any recruiter.

It started to become obvious that Reina was a liability to the group and to rid of her quickly would help the group in any issue.  Despite the background in psychology, she knew what the computer was capable of storing and used it when she needed research to do her job.  She scanned the pa one last time before turning off the lamp and headed for bed.

The next morning, she was awakened by a door knock.  Sayu rolled out of bed and took a glance at the clock.  It flashed a few times in front of her to know that the power had gone out and had missed breakfast.  She quickly changed from her pajamas to shirt and shorts and hurried out to the main room.

"Someone's late for the meeting."  Rika said with an annoying tone as she took her set in the back.

"Okay, we have all the data to attack but I want to rid of some loose ends."  Yossie started as she held onto her cup of water.  "Reina and Eri will be the duo to do it."

"Yossie, Ichiro's gang has a natural enemy correct?"  Eri spoke with her hand above the crowd.

"The Yamashitas are rivaled to the Shimokawas but they have been dormant for months based on my research.  Ichiro knows this fact but doesn't know that the Shimokawas have joined the Odas and the rogue Lee gang."

"That isn't good for us."  Ai commented as the group slowly nodded.

"It isn't great for either of them."  Yossie said bluntly.  "Both sides can lose a lot of blood, while we wait on the sidelines to draw them outdoors.  Eri and Reina will attack in three days."

"The two will commence in lockdown and the rest will do other jobs except for Sayu."  Rika announced as Sayu looked at both of them.

She couldn't expect anything good coming out of a meeting like that and hoping that neither would get down on her for tardiness.  The group exited the room and closed the door behind leaving the three women in the room.  Yossie threw down the stack of papers in front of her as Rika took the seat across showing her grin.

"You were looking up on Reina's past correct?"  Rika question Sayu as she nodded slowly.

"Why is she here?  There is no way she can be qualified."  Sayu shouted to the two.

"She isn't qualified but Yuko wanted to have her on our team because if she goes back to the streets, she will die.  Reina is in deeper shit than you ever think.  You saw the damage you did to her just for an act.  Think about what will happen when people see her out in the streets."  Yossie ran her finger over her throat.

"Her position will be temporary."  Rika added.

"Do you guys know what she did?"  The two looked at each other.

There was a long silence between the three of them and Rika removed the clutter on top to show her a manila folder filled with a report.

"This is everything about Ichiro's father."  Rika explained.

"She was the killer, I thought it was..."  Sayu stopped midway as she scanned through the report.

It wasn't gruesome but in everything that she had learned in missions, it was the perfect crime.  Everything seemed perfect as they found nothing to indicate that Reina would be the killer.  However, Reina confessed about it because it weighed on her for days.  Reina was described as too small to commit the crime.  The items didn't seem to match up but it Reina ending up with the blame.  The report seemed too good to be true that Sayu threw it back at them.

"She can't be the killer."  Sayu blurted.

"We know she isn't but Reina has the authority to show us who the killer is or was."

Sayu suddenly put the picture together and bowed deeply to the two.  She wanted to admit that she had snooped around to find out the truth and found out by ways of the bosses.  She headed to Reina's room and knocked on the door.  Sayu pushed the door open to find the two staring at each other.

"Sayu, what are you doing here?"  Reina asked breaking her battle from Eri.

"I wanted to know your answer."  Sayu insisted.

"Maybe Eri for now."  Reina answered with the door shutting quickly.

Sayu marched back to her room cursing at her hand for the problems with Reina.  She wanted the wounds to stay forever on her but never felt embarrassed to this level.  Closing the door behind her, she stared at the papers and threw them into the air.  Questions swirled about the incident and if she could find the real killer, probably Reina could be won over with her skills.

@yellow yes it is

Chapter 8

Four days after the previous mission, Nakazawa appeared unannounced with a meeting called for early morning.  The group dragged their lifeless bodies into the room with the smell of coffee perfuming the air.  The leader stood in front of them tapping her pencil onto the table while the women started to open their eyes.

"Why are we having an early meeting?"  Sayu whined loudly catching Nakazawa's attention.

""Because information doesn't stop when you sleep."  She informed with her finger pointing towards the bunny.  "You should also consider that I haven't punished you yet."

Sayu slid down into her chair with Nakazawa ready her powerpoint presentation to the group.  Yossie and Rika got their cups in hand and sat in the front.  Maki, Ai, and Risa took the second row while the rest of the internal group took the back row.  With a clearing of the throat, Nakazawa showed the first slide to the group.

"This is our current target.  Shimokawa Ryo."

"Are we using a sniper?"  Yossie asked.

"Yes and no."  Nakazawa responded.

The two in the front leaned forward with their ears pointing towards Nakazawa.  Reina in her half-sleeping mode shook off the drowsiness and took the spot next to Rika as Nakazawa grinned at the new force of attention.  She flipped to the next slide to show a group of men in front of the bath house.  The three looked around the picture with the two seeing the clue but Reina wasn't sure what she was looking for and sat straight up in her chair.

"Tanaka, this is a Yamashita bath house."  She explained.  "It was taken a few hours ago with a surveillance camera across the street."

"I didn't know of the incident."  Yossie interjected.

"Didn't have the time to update everyone but I want Shimokawa quickly taken out, is that understood?"  The group nodded.

"How are we approaching the suspect?"  Rika proposed.

"Reina will take the position and Maki will be the bait."  Maki stood and quickly left the meeting as Reina ran after her.

Maki stopped halfway towards the dorms to glance back at Reina who was in mid step before she halted her progress.  Goto showed a half smile and walked back towards the kitty.  She wrapped her arms around the kitty before exiting the main room.  Ai and Risa were at the slightly opened door looking at her before slowly closing the door.  Reina returned to the room with her mind still puzzled, she held up her right finger and launched her attack.

"Why is Maki going on the mission?"  Reina questioned.

The group slowly looked at each other before Yossie moved her seat closer to her.  "Goto is used to with these types of missions."

"What do you mean?"

"It can't be helped that her knowledge extends into that area."

Reina stood there glancing looks at Nakazawa before taking a seat.  Her mind started to spin about Maki and the half smile seemed to indicate something different than a normal mission.  She seemed to know more than she seemed to pass from it, Reina grew curious about what to expect that her mind was on the gun rather than the briefing.  Once she realized the briefing was over, she swung her head around wondering what the plan was.  Eri looked back after her long yawn and grabbed her to go into the armory.

Maki closed the door and jumped onto her bed.  It was usually entertaining to work herself into being a geisha, especially a seductive one.  However, while many find the job demeaning to women, she found that she could do more but it was against the rules to have sexual encounters while on the job.  She cursed herself many times while the men would rub on her erogenous zones but kept to teasing at best.

She graduated with Rika and Yossie but she followed her own path in doing reconnaissance work for many private companies with the favors to follow as usual.  It wasn't until Nakazawa saw her on the streets that she was willing to go underground for good.  The feeling of being underground had its limits as her tan lines disappeared over time and work seemed to slow every so often.  She promised herself that she request for a small gym but never seemed to get the courage to ask and it left her roundish at times.

Despite all her personal views, she never felt freer in her life.  Her lifestyle was relaxed than all the others because of specific missions she was allowed to do.  For one, no one had ever entered her room because of her choice to walk around in the buff most of the time unless there were meetings or meal time.  She kept many of her items in boxes to avoid clutter.  The biggest thing was her many kimonos which she cherished to the fullest.

Before her parents' passing, she admired the kimonos from both sides of the families and understood the value of her gifts.  Maki learned about the traditional style of kimonos when she was young and fixed them when they got torn to worn out from overuse.  It gave her a sense of pride to hem with her aunties until she was thirteen when on a trip to Osaka.

The car her parents' and their relatives were driving overturned after the front tire blew out.  She closed her eyes and yelled to the top of her lungs as it rolled down into a ditch fifteen feet from the road.  The bodies were piled on top of her seemingly a gift from the gods to keep her alive.  Five hours she laid there still with the weight of the lifeless bodies protecting her from the glass and debris coming in.  As they removed the bodies, Maki avoided looking at them until rescuers managed to pull her out.

She went through the battles of the accident keeping a memory that haunted her since then.  It was the torture to keep her busy and used school as a distraction.  However, many in the community disliked parentless children and she made a choice to live with her neighbor, starting another string of forgettable events.

Five years were enough to satisfy a need of a lonely woman.  She knew her as a sweet woman but her inner desires burned in her to exchange for living.  Her room was plain but it was well-kept by the woman as she liked a clean house but there was one room that was littered with books and that is where Maki learned her own perversion.

The young woman learned that her body was her temple and the woman, Yamasaki, had her way around molding her into a mature woman quickly.  Exercises made her more flexible than ever and learning to gain such flexibility helped with sports and other activities.  However, Yamasaki had bigger plans and one night before high school graduation, she took the most important thing away from her.

Maki had just returned from school in preparation for graduation with a grin that couldn't be wiped off.  Yamasaki escorted her to the room below and showed her a chair with an item on top of it.  Maki was unsure what it meant but the woman insisted on trying it out.  Maki stripped down bare and looked at it from a view before approaching it.  She glanced back to get the approving nod and lowered her hips onto it.  Her mind went blank as the mixture of pleasure and pain entered her mind.  The item so approving gave her an unusual feeling inside.  Yamasaki followed up with the erotic massages as usual and she found herself beyond the reality.  It was the first time she didn't think of anything and just went with it.  Yamasaki started to nibble on her ear which made Maki tenser and the fingers made its move to her lower half.  The fingers managed to catch the most sensitive part with her body building for a pleasure overload and with a tilt of her head finally released a hidden frustration.

It was the final lesson to her body that she possessed a weapon that could equalize the field.  Since that time, she had found many couldn't resist temptation and left her pondering if it could be possess by another.  She spent time to gain knowledge but no one could ever do it like Yamasaki.

A knock came at the door and rolled out of bed to answer it.  It was the blonde leader looking at her with hands hidden in the back.  Maki stepped out from her comfort zone and stood in front of her with her hands crossed at the back.

"Six hours will be go time."  She informed the woman.

"I'll be ready by then.  Tanaka?"

"She will be on the rooftop but do you think you can calm her down?"  Yossie asked with a smirk.

"If I do so, she will be too calm.   If you really want her to be calm, let Kamei calm her down."  Maki instructed as she opened her door.

"I see.  Your powers are too strong for a petite woman."  Yossie said with a grin.

"No one shall ever gain my curse."  Maki joked as she entered her room.

@yellow: I had to add that parallel to compose the story

Chapter 9

Reina and Eri looked up at the clock seeing the red tick away slowly.  The suitcase containing the rifle was open in front of them with the contents placed to its side.  The bullets were in the box across of them neatly laid in rows facing opposite ways.  Eri grabbed the cloth from the gun rack and cleaned out the barrel of residue.  She gave the approval before placing them into the respective slots.

"Another mission out on the field."  Eri sighed.  "Must be fun to work out there."

Reina shook her head slowly before catching a glimpse of the turtle's face.  She quickly smiled at her as Reina closed the suitcase.  Her mind slowly swirled about the situation and how she was an outsider to most of them.  Now, she was in another suicide mission with no guarantee that she could get away again.

"I wish I didn't have to do this."  She said in a soft tone.

"What do you mean?"

Reina looked towards the elevator and turned back to Eri with her hand firmly on the table.  Eri gave her a blank stare as she was expecting bad news and closed the door for privacy.  Reina approached Eri as they sat on their stools with the room closing around them.  Reina felt the lump slowly going down their throat like a hot coal burning around her windpipe and the urge to drop to her stomach seemed farther than the moment before.

"I'm only doing this to clean up my tarnished record."  She began.  "I am no murderer or a bad person in general."

"You didn't come from the police academy?"  Reina shook her head.

"Far from it, Eri.  I was part of a gang as a lowly member until the day I met Haruo."  She paused as she felt the sudden change in temperature.  "He was a father to me until he was choked to death in the early morning and as the person was ready to suffocate me, I stabbed him in the leg and followed till the knee joint."

"Yamashita Haruo?"  She nodded.
Reina’s eyes grew big but she wasn’t surprised they knew the people but what were they thinking.  The group was not her to impress, it seemed that they were set in throwing her to the curve but Eri; this woman was the only ears that seemed to be on her level.

"He wasn't an evil person to anyone but the public knew him as a notorious figure in the yakuza.  His brother was the boss actually but he took it admirably until he finally turned against him when the police came a calling."

"It was a hit.  I had a feeling it was a hit."  Eri exclaimed.

"Haruo's son was angered by his father's death that his cousin was brutally raped and murdered in front of the uncle's eyes.  Ichiro and group took an initiative to violate until he apologized but..."  Reina felt her throat tightened around the last part.

"What happened?"

"Ichiro was ruthless.  He broke the uncle down until he committed suicide in front of him, aligning the men to follow Ichiro.  However, the biggest mistake was accusing me of his father's death because everything was going against his uncle but he thought I was replacing his mother as his mistress."

"You weren't?"  She shook her head vigorously.

"His mother knew I was helping her around and force fed it to the judges."

"Did he recognize you?"  Eri asked.

"He wouldn't know how I would look like because only his mother would know, he never visited home."

Eri rubbed her chin as she processed the story as best as she could and immediately hugged her.  The constriction of her body made her feel warm but a stream came rolling down her arm.  Crying, Eri rubbed her eyes onto Reina's shirt and tilted her face up to force a smile.

"Are you only here for Ichiro?"

"Yes, and to be honest, if I do get my slate clean, I will end up in the same position."  Reina said with a negative tone in her voice.
Knocks were heard to break the moment between the two.  Reina pushed open the door to Yossie standing at the entrance with her hands crossed behind her back.  She stepped into the armory with her eyes wondering around the area with her attention strongly on the suitcase in front of them.  She extended her hand to the closed suitcase and popped it open with ease.
“Tanaka, are you ready for the mission?”  Yossie asked.  Reina return a nod back as she snapped the suitcase again.

“I want to see a clean finish and I’ll await your return.”  She said in a confident tone with her exit from the armory.

Eri rolled up her fingers into a fist and ran after Yossie before she approached the elevator.  Her heart started to beat quicker as she placed her hand onto the leader’s shoulder.  Yossie turned quickly to the panting Eri.  The turtle felt her throat closed on her for a moment as she peered into her eyes.  Confident, she breathed.  “Reina… I want to know what you guys are planning to do with her after.”

Yossie smiled at the turtle.  She should tell everyone that Reina was a special case but rarely anyone has left under special circumstances.  Was she going to be the first?  She didn’t plan to express the truth until she could confirm it herself.  She stared at the turtle for a few seconds before she pressed the elevator button.

“I’m not sure, we’ll see after it’s done.”  She breathed with the elevator doors opened and entered keeping her attention away from Eri.

Eri hung her head as she returned back into the armory.  The group rarely had an emotional person but she showed it a lot when the previous sniper was killed.  It was her heart that reveals her character; she liked to have fun but the job required dangers that no one would take unless they were trained.  Internally, she liked staying underground to avoid the missions but she wanted to venture once to face the fears that haunted her.

“Eri… don’t worry about it.”  Reina soothed the turtle.

“I know but there is something else why I want you to still be here.”  Eri forced Reina into a bear hug and let her emotions flow out again.

“What is it?”  Reina whispered.

“I don’t want to be lonely.”  She replied.

Reina couldn’t feel the pressure from the hug.  Her mind became blank as Eri’s words touched her, it was the first time she heard it from anyone.  Her friends hadn’t cared for her since she was released.  The best thing seemed to comfort her but to escape from the influences.  However, she left the people that supported her but to return the favor seemed insurmountable to them.  It was different with Eri, she wanted her to stay but to show it in front of them could hurt her chances.

“Control yourself, Eri.”  Reina commanded as she pried her arms away from her.

“Thank you.”  She mumbled as she wiped the tears from her eyes.

Despite the emotional moment, Reina was determined to do the job and looked up at the clock again.  Knowing in four hours, it was time to depart to the rooftop.  However, she had something weighing on her mind and turned toward Eri.  She slammed her into the wall behind them with her lips ready for her savior.  Pressing her body on top Eri, Reina forced a kiss onto her.  She closed her eyes hoping nothing will bother her for the moment.

Reina, you never told me who do you like?

Why should I tell you?  You are a friend.

Because I’m your friend, you should tell me.

I won’t

I guess I’m not your friend.

Fine, because it isn’t you

Thanks for being honest.

Reina opened her eyes to Eri once again feeling the distraction run into her mind.  Gently waking the turtle from her dream, Reina winked at her embarrassing the moment they had together.  Reina grabbed the suitcase and exited the armory.  Eri followed her out and locked the armory behind them before taking the elevator up to the main floor.

Chapter 10

Reina exited the lair with suitcase in hand with a coat and sunglasses.  The ride was cluttering her mind more about Eri's feelings and decidedly closed her eyes for a while.  She couldn't accept Eri at any cost, even with her word; it was too difficult to accept a promise from anyone.  Her thinking was set to not accept any guarantee from anyone especially allies, it was her number one rule but Eri's compassion forced her to consider accepting any consequences that would come with the job.

She opened her eyes as the car pulled in front of the building.  She slipped on the coat and sunglasses before exiting the car and swiftly entered the building.  Inside it was bare.  The lobby was covered with cobwebs.  The abandoned place wasn't used for about ten years as it covered from ceiling to floor.  The creaks of the floorboards gave her no confidence to walk any further but she rushed forward to the stairs with no damage to the wooden floor.  She climbed eight flights up to the spot that seemed perfect for the angle.  Her escape was two floors above her and with the sturdy stairs; it was approached as an easy getaway.

She entered into the room with the open window to the target below.  A car pulled in front of the spa and out came two men; one who was short and heavy set with a thin moustache, the other a tall, medium built, clean shaven, and pulled back hair.  He turned his head to his left and Reina quickly recognize he was the target.  Reina opened the suitcase and slowly assembled her weapon before putting it aside.  She noticed below the padding was a phone that was vibrating and opened it.

"Tanaka-san, forty-five minutes."  The voice instructed.

She couldn't recognize the voice and looked at the screen to notice the kanji.  Goto Maki.  The slight screech in her voice made her unsure if it was her who called.  She had no other choice other than to take the instruction and set her time for forty-five minutes.  She looked over again to find two women walking into the spa, one older female and the other a much younger girl.  Assuming they were mother and daughter, she sat down on the wood floor and began to think about Eri again.

Was she going to follow through and accept her or stab her in the back?  Her thinking was fogged with the scenarios of rejection and acceptance at the same time.  Eri was the only person to stay by her side but her mind was heavy with Eri’s feelings, dramatic yet real.  Reina had to take what she had been given and hoped for the best.

It seemed short as she glanced back at the phone and placed the gun on the ledge while balancing the butt on the shoulder.  She had three minutes to wait for him to appear in her sights.  Reina calmly counted down from a hundred eighty and kept her finger on the trigger, lightly touching it as every second ticked down in her head.  The slight breeze was perfect for the mission as she waited for him.  At a minute before the shot, he appeared in her sight with his back towards her.  She had hoped that he would turn and expect the strike through his heart.  Then, she saw Goto with her hair up in a bun; her clothing ruffled, but was still showing a smile towards her customer.  She watched Goto turned his body and Reina pulled the trigger.  A solid shot through his heart.  Goto let out a scream as Reina pulled back her gun immediately dismantling it back into the suitcase.

Picking it up, she had only a few seconds to ponder her escape route and headed for the stairs in the back to head to the roof.  Her stealthy steps made it easier for the men to not track her.  She approached the roof with ease with her curiosity on the scene below.  The ambulance had pulled in and the men were surrounding their fallen leader.  Reina leaped to the next building with ease but paused as her balance seemed to throw her off a bit.  The next leap came with caution but easing the landing a little helped with the getaway.

Running down the stairs like a bullet, she couldn’t think any more about what was behind her but she heard a silent shot through the room.  A sudden ache came from her shoulder and ran down her right arm.  Her body felt like rubber as she held her shoulder and saw the blood painting her hands.  She took a few more steps before coming to a complete halt.

“Who the hell shot me?”  Reina yelled as the echo grew in the empty staircase.

She hunted for her backup weapon on her ankle but the pain in her shoulder stopped her from getting to the item and she felt a cold stream run down the side of her face as she started to wait for the shooter to appear.  Her body slowly becoming limp, staggered to the wall and her legs gave up as the body felt the concrete around her.  She had little fear for her own life but her fear came true instantly, someone was inching down.  Her vision faded too quickly to get a great look at the person and gasped before closing her eyes.

“Shimokawa down, but Tanaka hasn’t returned back.”  Rika reported as Yossie was looking around the room.

“Where did she go?  She wouldn’t run away.”  Yossie felt the lump in her throat grow to a baseball before a light bulb appeared. “Call Goto.”

Rika dialed in the number but had a busy signal.  It was too soon for her to be out of character but to save one of their own, it was the risk needed to be taken.  Ai and Risa frantically tried to place the suitcase which was planted with a GPS tracker but came up with nothing.  Throughout the panic, Eri had watched the screen carefully, holding her hands together whispering prayers every second, keeping the faith within the room up and it came to the final resort to send out Jun to survey the scene.

Jun had background in recovery missions in her native China.  Many were deemed “suicidal” but she came through in all of them.  She was unorthodox as she took the long path around to survey the area before pinpointing the location of the person in charge.  One request has always been she had to do it alone and Yossie reluctantly agreed despite her own reservations about solo missions regarding non-sniper because of weapons restrictions.

She put on her dark blue sunglasses and headed east.  Pacing through the partially busy streets, she could view the location of the shooting and noticed Goto bawling over the death of Shimokawa.  Jun moved toward the alleyways and looked up at the buildings.  She had briefings for sniper missions and it always came to the point in distance.  She counted the rooftops and headed into the third building’s back exit.

Her shoulder met the door and popped it open.  There was a trail blood leading out to the front door but she grew curious of the events and followed the blood up the stairs.  It seemed small at the bottom but grew as she walked to the sixth floor where a fresh puddle had appeared near the wall.  The suitcase was to the side and she picked up to feel the weight and noticed they didn’t remove the sniper rifle but knew the GPS tracker.

“Someone knew of the tracker.” She noted to herself before walking back down the stairs and headed to the front door.

The blood ended there as the people trickled on by.  There was something fishy of the whole situation and she had to uncover it quickly before Reina was in serious trouble.  She flipped open the phone to give Yossie the details and had the approval to continue on further but her tracks ended there.  She had to set locations of the possible whereabouts and ran to the hospital as fast as she could.

“Reina is MIA.”  Yossie reported to Goto as she wiped her tears away from her eyes.

“I heard a shot nearby, it couldn’t be her right?”  The feeling grew within her that Reina might have been shot in retaliation in the war.

“Jun is on the case.”  Yossie’s voice made Goto dread the days where everything could go right except for one important aspect.

Goto headed back into the spa to change into her normal clothes as she ended her shift.  The owner consoled her but noticed his perverted thoughts went to her breasts and pulled away before he could get grasp of them.  She hurried out of the spa and paced back to headquarters, as she approached the crosswalk, a hand was raised from across the street.

“Fujimoto-san, long time no see.”  Goto greeted the police officer turned office lady.

“It has been, seems like it is old times again.”  She pointed out the bag and the heavy, runny makeup.

“How has been married life?”  Miki grinned at the question and punched Goto in the arm.

“It has been great, control everyone and my son is cute, can’t avoid that face.”

“Sounds great…”  Goto’s voice trailed as she thought of Miki’s expertise.  “Can you do one favor?”

“Sure.”

“Look for a Tanaka Reina and send me a file about her current whereabouts.”  Miki licked her lips as she heard the inquiry.

“Sure.”  She answered as Goto ran off to headquarters.

Chapter 11

Fujimoto Miki showed her grin to the computer screen.  It was a while that she had access to the police database for a missing person.  Despite her separation from the underground group, she stayed with the police force as an intelligence agent on reserve status.  She could access the records from the remote computer set up through the police intranet.

She knew the group well to hide in plain sight and get her job done but having a husband and kid left her lonely at times.  Spending many hours cleaning the house and caring for the little child brought back the memories and the one person that she truly felt in love with: Yossie.

Miki was with the same class as Yossie but stayed back an extra year to acquire the computer skills.  When she was assigned to the underground, she worked closely with Yossie and Rika but felt threatened by the second in command when she was around.  Words didn't have to spoke but the truth was both were enemies to the nature of the group.  Two years was long enough to break away and leave her heart dormant to the past.

Her eyes scanned through the information and picked up a hospital report.  She dug through the clearances and analyzed the information before sending it off to Maki.   With the final push of the enter button, she closed down her computer before tending to the cries of the infant.  She smiled at the small bundle of joy with the jumbled past still lingering behind.

A few minutes later, the phone rang waking the baby from its slumber.  The chaotic crying was soothed by its mother as the call went to the machine.  She grinned at him and cursed her husband for being late from his show before running the message on the machine.

“Fujimoto-san, Goto told me you have contacted her.”  The voice bitterly said.  “Thanks for the information but you have to know that Yuko is tracking your every move.”

“Nakazawa-san always wants to meddle.”  She scoffed.

The phone rang again and she caught it before the ring ended.  Pressing the receiver to her ear, she heard the soft breathing of familiar person.  Her smile grew as the voice spat out from the phone.  “Fujimoto-san, are you there?”

“Yes, Yossie.”  She replied with a smirk.  “Do you have something for me?”

There was a pause in the air.  Was there something for her after all?  Miki began to feel the palms moisten up as she waited for Yossie’s reply.  Miki glanced over at the child before pressing into the receiver again.

“Miki… thank you for your help.”  Yossie croaked.  “You have to visit her.”

“Me?  She won’t know what to do with me.”  Miki shrieked.

“Give your credentials and she have to accept it.”  Yossie commanded.

“Okay.”

She put the phone back onto the stand with her face in her hand.  Her happiness was faced with an awkward feeling in her stomach.  She wanted something more but it could be a start for her to come back.  However, she had to weigh the options and decided to let the baby sleep on her as she slept on it.

Reina looked up at the ceiling with the smell lingering in the room.  She looked down at her breakfast with her eyes as huge as melons.  She wanted to scream in excitement with the food but she kept her silence and closed the curtain around her.  She didn’t expect a bowl of hot rice, half a grilled fish, and pickled vegetables.  Reina broke her chopsticks as she stared at her food and dug into the perfectly made rice.

She downed the food in lightning quick bites.  Reina opened the curtain again to see a nurse grab the tray from bedside and lounged in her bed as the memory popped into her head.  Reina only could recognize the shadow; she pounded her bed in only remembering that shadow as the wound consumed the body.  It was impossible for anyone to catch up to her in the building but she pondered if it was a mistake to map out the moves beforehand.  Her thoughts were the only clues she had to work on and began to note the shadow’s identity.

Reina began to see the sun slowly adjust its angle.  She grew bored of sitting in bed and swung her legs outward and stretched it over the white-tiled floor.  Despite her own fearless demeanor, Reina was no cat in disguise.  She was horrified by the distance like a kid climbing out of their new bed.  She turned onto her stomach and reach for the floor, the cold surface below was her only clue but something warm was holding her hips and she felt the cold floor earlier than expected.

“You shouldn’t force yourself out so early.”  The woman warned with a smirk on her face.

“Who are you?”

“I’m Fujimoto Miki of the Metro Police, intelligence division.”  She announced.

“Intelliegence?  Why would you be here?”  Miki’s smile grew as she grabbed a wheelchair from the hallway.

“Yossie brought me here to talk to you.”  She spoke as Reina took a seat in the wheelchair as Miki rolled her out of the room.

Reina sat still as she took a right from her room and headed toward the E.R. before swinging a left to the nursery wing where Miki’s child was in a crib by a nurse.  The mother picked up the kid and laid it onto Reina.  She looked down at the infant and pressed her lips together to entertain him.  As she got the baby to laugh the infant extended his hands up and rolled into her pressing his tiny hands onto her.  The infant grabbed onto the clothing getting a yelp from the sniper.

“Babies are very perverted.”  Miki joked.

The infant reached again grabbing Reina again and she brushed the hand away from her, getting a loud cry from the baby.  Stopping, Miki soothed the baby’s crying as they were near the door to the outside garden.  Reina elected to grab the wheels and rolled herself to the garden as Miki followed behind her.

Reina stopped at the big tree in the middle of the garden.  The fresh dew covered the ground around them with Miki taking the infant into her arms as the coos soothed the atmosphere.  She stared at Miki for a few seconds before turning her attention to the tree.  The huge tree presented an umbrella for the mist that was blowing from the east.  Miki sat down at the bench across of the sniper with her eyes gazing down at her as the baby was in his slumber.

“The shooter knew your location.”  Miki mumbled.

“Of course but I can’t believe anyone on the team wanted to shoot at me.”  Reina grabbed her shoulder feeling the pain streaming through her body.

“It was on purpose not for the reason you think.”  She confided.  “Yuko wanted to send you a message.”

The words were arrows into her body, the tips penetrated deeper than expected, the hands seemed to jiggle it loose causing her more pain.  She gripped the wheels and rolled herself to the bench.  Reina felt the wet grass below and took a seat next to Miki with her attention towards the little boy.  Reina’s body shivered with the wind picking up with every second they were locked in each other’s sight.

“What was the message?”  Reina coughed.

“You are in the way of the big picture.”  Miki started.  “Your target is no longer your target, it is now theirs.”

“What do you mean?”

“You need to understand that revenge is no longer achievable by yourself.”  She grabbed the sniper’s shoulders.  “The team will do the job as you stay here, when it is done, you will be free to take your path.”

“Is that why you are here?”  She questioned.  “To tell me the truth and keep me out of the action.”

Miki nodded her head slowly with a smirk.  “It happened to me but I feel they could be protecting you from the horror of their work.”

Reina looked up at the tree and felt the mist hitting her skin.  It was a different feel from the room but the outside world was worse than this realization.  Was love in the way?  She felt that nothing was going to stop her from coming back, if it meant to follow through again.  She grabbed the wheels again and rolled to the door before turning back to Miki.

“Tell Yossie I want to be on the team.”

“I wish you luck…”  She shouted.

Reina rolled back into her room leaving a trail of wet grass on the floor.  She finally realized that it wasn’t personal but the problem was the person who put her here.  Who was it?  The question came every minute but with reservations of that person was shrouded in mystery.  The bed fitted her with comfort as her eyes fluttered to dream land.

“Yossie, I know who was the shooter.”  Miki raised her voice carefully watching the people around her.

“We all know who it is, but is Reina intending to return?”  Yossie questioned with her voice tailing from the speaker.

“I think so, now with the idea in her mind, she will finish the job.”  Miki hung up leaving Yossie kneading her forehead as someone appeared in her front of her with a coat on.

“You think Reina will know?”

“I hope not because you love her right?”

@yellow Not quickly enough

Chapter 12

Yossie began to look through her hidden sources of her condition.  With a lopsided smile, she looked over at Rika, who just finished the last of the potatoes, and felt that pull as she looked over at the leader.  Rika knew it was good news with the smile and paced over to read the report that came in five minutes earlier.

"She'll be coming back, right?"  Rika asked with a hint of doubt at the end.

"Don't worry about it.  If Miki knew, we would be in trouble."  Yossie's smile disappeared as they walked over to the conference room where two women were staring at each other.

It was no secret to the people that someone had done the job but fear roamed when Fujimoto became involved in the scheme.  Police officer on leave with maternity leave left time on their side to accomplish the feat but it had to be discussed.  Goto walked into the room with the urge of understanding the situation.  The room was colder than usual as the eyes seemed to burn her skin as she took a seat in the front where Yossie and Rika were facing the group.  The stare turned towards them as Risa closed the door behind them.

"I would like to start off in saying that the malicious shooting wasn't of my decision."  Yossie stated with her hands firmly on the plastic table staring in the direction of the shooter.  "It was done in good faith though as a warning from the person."

Goto's hand shot up quickly after the last word exited the leader's mouth but the eyes swung the other way, avoiding the contact but it was unsuccessful as Rika pointed out the hand.  She stood erect towards them with her arms relaxed but her face solely on Yossie as she turned back towards the person.

"Good faith?  She didn't need that if she wanted to stay unless you think that she'll betray us."  Goto raised her voice to get the group attracting attention towards her.

"It was considered that it might be potential but faith is going with us at the moment."  Rika replied.

Goto approached the table and looked at the two.  Rika took a step back from the table leaving Yossie in a stare down with the erotic bait that led to the shooting.  The group leaned forward watching the event unfold in front of them.  It was unusual for anyone to face the leader with intent but if it had to happen, it was the perfect time to do so.

"Tanaka-san will do fine."  Sayu said as she stood up.

"You really think so?"  Goto turned towards Sayu revealing a blade.

The group scattered to both sides of the room as she faced Sayu.  Standing tall, she switched her attention to the blade as Goto crept closer to her.  She took a deep breath and mumbled to herself a prayer as the gleaming weapon came closer to her.  Yossie watched Goto creeping closer but suddenly stopped as she put it away.  "I guess I should know now why right?"

Yossie silently nodded with the attention turning back to her.  Goto had her reasons to draw her blade, it was quicker than a gun and no one could ever stop her from using it against other group members.  She took her seat in the front row with the group scooting in closer to her as Yossie came back to the table.

"With that over, we can move onto our next target."  Yossie announced putting up a picture.

The picture haunted the group.  No one wanted to say it but it was feared that the person would be next if the rumors were true.  Sayu had her face in her hands as it was put up.  The image alone was quickly understood by all of them and it was given to the group as their next mission.  Yossie rubbed her hands together and pointed towards Sayu to complete it.  Sobbing through her briefing, she was required to do it to save the group but it was a suicide mission if she decided on declining.

"I want this person out ASAP."  The room turned to each other as Rika tugged on Yossie's shirt.

"Are you sure?"  Yossie confidently nodded.

"It was the reason we did that, remember?"  She stared at Rika as the folder was in front of her.  "We couldn't let her off our sight for long."

"True, but leaving it up to Sayu might put us into danger..."  Yossie held her hand up, halting the explanation to come.

"I ran it by Nakazawa and she agreed wholeheartedly."  Rika walked away with a nod.

"I'll do it."  Sayu murmured as she left the room with Eri.

Two days after the incident, Miki returned to the hospital to seek Reina's discharge as she looked down to sign, a hooded person bumped into her and waived her hand towards her.  A chill came through her body while the pen was on the paper.  She quickly signed off and charged towards the room.  She saw the hooded person standing over Reina like a ghost haunting over her body.  Miki took a step inside and the person took off the hood.  Black hair flowed from the top and into the hood, Miki rushed towards the bed, and the bloodshot eyes of the person glared at Reina before putting her hood back.  She ran out quickly waking Reina from her slumber seeing Miki by her side.

"Why are you here?"  Reina asked with her eyes slightly closed.

"You are getting discharged today and we are heading to the police station for follow up."  She stated as the nurse came into the room to drop off her clothes.

Reina left her bed and walked into the bathroom to change.  Miki began to wonder why any person would come in to visit a person ready to be discharged.  Her thoughts carried on for a bit as the weather changed from overcast to sunny.  She had her reasons to think that the person came to visit to see her but the question seemed to linger over her head.  She turned to the door, feeling the urge to knock to check on her but held out her hand as Reina exited.

"Ready to go."  Reina said in a confident tone as she passes the gown to the nurse and grabbed her bag of used items.

Reina exited before Miki feeling the sun hit her face for a while as Miki went to grab the car.  She never felt better until a tinge of her dream came to her mind.  As she awoke, the dream seemed to unravel in her mind; a person in a hoodie was by her bedside like it was a funeral.  Reina began to think who could that person be and why was that person there?  Death seemed to be closer than she expected.  Feeling the closed wound as it was still painful to understand the day of the incident.

Miki pulled up in her blue Toyota and helped the sniper with her bags with the trip only a few blocks away.  Reina took the front passenger seat with her mind on the event that happened half an hour ago and they drove off.  It seemed normal for weekday traffic to be heavy but the cars at a standstill brought attention to the police officer as she pulled up into her lane and left Reina to check on the hold up.

Her eyes were scarred with a woman sprawled on the concrete.  Blood created a small river from her head as the look of shock was on her face.  Miki saw the police surrounding the body and pushed through the officers to find her wondering what had happened.  She grabbed the first police officer, short, stalky man with a five o clock shadow, "Looks like a suicide."

"No suicide, Fujimoto-san."  He commented as he looked over the notes.  "Execution."

"Execution?"  She watched them turned the body to the view the bullet hole.  "Who would do this?"

"I have no clue, ma'am."  He said while he looked over his notes.  "Some group must have her down for the count, probably Yakuza."

Miki knew she wouldn't get far with the officer, so she began to look for the detective, and wasn't surprised by the person on the case.  She was seductive, deep voice woman with a sweet attitude off work but level-headed on the job, Matsuura Aya, with the media surrounding her.  Her demeanor always got the best of Miki as they were partnered up for a while before an intimate meeting caused them to break up permanently.  However, Miki knew it wouldn't last long if Aya had her shot to be with her again.

"Mikitty, how have you been?"  The voice ringed in her ear like the past.

"Ayaya, I've been great."  She answered as she felt the arms wrap around her like a warm blanket.  "How have you been?"

"Likewise except my jealousy runs deep with your child."  She said with a smile.  "The boy must be like the father, nee~"

Aya's mischievous smile gave Miki a blush that was a deep red.  Only she could make her blush but she was already one up on the plan but the roots were still planted within her.  "What have you found?"

"Her name Li Chun and it seems she got a surprise from someone."

"I noticed that but the reason?"  Aya shrugged her shoulders.

"We need to find out because her working place is a dry cleaner shop a couple blocks from here."

Miki began to ponder over the situation with the thought of her passenger seemingly going away.  Aya looked at the traffic and gently shook her head.  "This is the worst time to have something like this."

Reina looked into her bag for the sling that was supposed to be on her at all times but her memory of it brought more pain.  She slipped it on and ran towards the scene where she caught the image.  Her mind couldn't comprehend what she saw but Aya quickly caught her in the shock and ran up to her.

"You know who it is?"  She asked.

"Junjun.  She was a... friend."  Her tongue seemed ready to slip out the secret.

Miki knew what was happening and grabbed Reina.  "Somebody take me to the station."

Aya commanded her male partner to drive and they went off leaving her car in the jam.  Knowing that issue, Aya walked over to the car to drive it to the station.  Her eyes caught the bag in the passenger seat and opened it to find the used items but an ID card seemed gravitated her eyes to it.  It was unusual that police issued a special card to anyone.  It was a unique situation to do so and she slipped into her pocket as she drove off to the station.

@yellow and she will be involved more

Chapter 13

"It has been done."  The voice echoed through the empty hallway.

It drew no attention but it was a way to let go of her frustration.  Despite her acts, she felt confident that at least one won't spill it as for the other person.  It was out of her hands.  Police would intervene if they wanted to do so but would get nowhere quickly.  It was her duty as a backup assassin to finish jobs but she never expect to send messages to people.

Her return usually came expected with questions but none were given to her as she walked to her room where she wrote out the name.  Her name was the breaking point.  She didn't have to hide it but it kept her mind straight at the goal.  Seeing her was the final straw before slamming the door.  Closing her eyes, she wanted to get away before it happened again with blood on her hands again.

Reina and Miki pushed open the door to the station where the gleeful receptionist had the phone glued to her ear as she nodded to every word with her teeth digging into her lower lip.  Miki approached the desk with the eyes finally meeting after she waved her hand in front of her.

"Morning Fujimoto-san."  She greeted as she placed the phone on the receiver.  "How's the baby?"

Miki smiled as the gleefulness would bother her but she had to past through the façade to get to the issue.  "The baby is good.  Where's Nakazawa?"

She picked up the phone and quick dial the office to get to the voice mail.  She placed the phone down and searched through the schedule.  She quickly shrugged her shoulders as another phone call came to her.

"Thanks Nacchi."  Miki murmured as she walked through the crowd.

Reina was accustomed going through the busy desks of the detectives and heading to the interrogation room but the eyes seemed to change her perspective of them.  Miki finally arrived at her desk with a few files ready for her return.  She awoke the computer and logged herself into the vast knowledge at hand.  She brought up the profile of Jun and let her eyes scan it before sending it to the printer.

Reina knew Miki wouldn't let her read into it and took a seat on the desk as a man came with two cups of tea.  He was tall with gelled, short hair.  He gave the cup to Reina first with a smile while Miki took her cup without eye contact.

"Fujimoto-sama, who is she?"  He asked as Miki turned to view at her partner.

"Hashimoto-kun, this is Reina."  She pointed towards the kitty.  "I'm taking care of her for the time being."

He extended her hand towards Reina and felt the dainty grip of the woman against his strong manly grab.  Reina wasn't sure if he was crushing her hand but quickly removed it before her bones started to crack.  Miki walked past him leaving the two alone for a moment as he flashed a smile.

"So. Reina seems you got into an accident."  He said as he glanced at the sling.

Reina pursed her lips trying to force the change and he walked away when Miki returned from the printer.  Miki looked at the man before turning back to the paper.  The profile was half a page leaving Reina to wonder why she had been killed and whoever did it had to be connected to her injury.  She stood up and headed further into the heart of the operation.  Reina saw the door with the name of the leader and Miki pushed through to the empty room.

"She isn't here."  Reina commented as Miki stood there with her hands to her side.

"This is going to be an interesting ride."  She said to herself.

"Mikitty, what is this about?"  The voice turned both around to view an ID of Reina.

The two grinded their teeth as she held up the card.  Miki knew Reina's cover will be blown but her friend had the incriminating evidence of what Reina was within the system.  Aya slid the card back into the pocket.  "We'll talk in the conference room."

"Wait!"  Miki yelled.  "Reina is a person of interest.  She needed the ID to prove my case so I gave her one."

"So. is this faked?"  Miki nodded as the card appeared again.

Aya ran the eye test and tilted her head before putting it back into her pocket.  Miki pushed the two out of the office and closed the door behind her.  The problem seemed bigger than the group, it was an internal issue.  Miki could only anticipate the next event and paced to the conference room with the two following her.  The door slammed behind them and she turned the lock to protect their privacy.

"Aya, listen."  Miki said as Reina took her seat next to the detective.  "She is part of a secret group for the police."

"We have a secret group???"  Aya elevated her voice as Miki pushed her back down.

"Yes, they are connected to yakuza control.  I used to be part of it before the scandal broke."  Miki explained.

The detective shook her head furiously as the information was a hot iron to her brain.  She didn't want to believe that there was a secret group to stop the yakuza.   A person she knew was once part of them, and now a current member.  Aya wanted to believe that they were doing it to themselves but a group to take out members was crazy.  Then, a realization came into her mind of what would have happened if Miki was killed in action but reality set in as she looked up at her.

"The scandal. wasn't it cheating on your husband?"  Miki had a lopsided smile.

"It was a cover up for me to leave the group."  She explained.  "My husband knew it was a cover up but the other person."

".was me."  Aya finished the sentence.

"You knew that I still cared for you when it broke but they never disclosed the name because the internal division would never address it as long as I kept quiet."  Miki elaborated.

"IA is the backbone of the force."  Aya commented.  "They would always dig into it unless."

Aya nodded to the realization and exploded out of her seat but stopped when Miki reached out for her.  She handcuffed the detective as she pulled her back into the room.  She could smell that a plan was cooking but she couldn't accept a plan that would destroy her career if Miki was wrong, but as a friend, her gut feeling was her greatest asset.

"Aya, leave it to me."
