xDDD Call me a curious person, I guess.
With the amount of fellow writers I talk to, it's surprising to see so many... girls o_O;
I mean, writing stories about female idols (on each other no less xDDD ) seems like something more akin to the male population, but nope, it's the opposite here xDDDD
SO!
Just use this thread to clarify your gender, that's all '_'
I'm sure fans are wondering if they should address their author as a male or female, or something, I dunno, roffle. Commenters mustcan vote too~!
All I know is that because of all the girls around here, I've assumed that everyone who starts writing here is a girl xDDDDDDD
As for the extra options at the beginning, that's just for shits and giggles. +1 for sense of humor! o_O
I'll start it off with saying I'm a tiny lil Asian woman~! xDDD
-
Kinda obvious what I am by now....of course I'm a girl. Well, physically anyway. You will have to consult the rest of my split personalities for further details. XD
-
With my love of pink it is clear to see that I am a guy. :pandaaa:
-
I think it's pretty clear, but watashi wa onna desu~
-
I'm a girl. :D
-
WTF, mysterious object?
-
I'm a guy....
-
Girl, though my friend teases me cuz I've got a guyish attitude. .__.;;
-
Although mistaken for a guy a lot, I'm a girl.
-
Hmm, I'm usually mistaken for a guy online, but not in person. It happened once. It was winter, I was 8, and I was bundled up so much that you couldn't even tell I was human.
-
Lmao the top two choices. XD made me crack up. But I'm a girl though in person I have been mistaken for a guy not many times though. I used to be mistaken for a boy when I spoke on the phone though. I have noticed that a lot of fic writers are girls. I would have thought it would be all boys as well.
-
I assumed that most writers are girls unless they say something that would indicate them to be a guy. I'll admit that I've gotten adventwriter and writerjunkie switched.
Well despite trying to have an ambiguous username there's no escaping my reputation and other identity from other forums. I'm a girl, °elasticgirl/°e-girl/°e to be exact.
Oh yeah, has OTN ever revealed who they were? He/she/it was a great writer! :D
-
another girl here.
and i'm curious about OTN too XD
-
^OTN is a girl. XD There was a hilarious episode in one of her story threads where JFC got her gender wrong. XD
And on the topic of being mistaken for a guy, that happens to me all the time in real life. I walk into a store, and the people there are like "Welcome sir, what would you like?". Cue an eloquent "..."
XD
-
Oh, for the love of all that is holy, °e-girl... :banghead:
Estrea, it happened in one of Rokun's story threads.
-
xDDDD The amusing part is that OTN1 led us to believe she was a guy at first but then decided to give us the truth in Rokun's thread, roffle xDD
-
At first I thought strawb3rrykream is a male, until she post a pic in the thread "Please tell me who is this girl"
sorry...
-
^OTN is a girl. XD There was a hilarious episode in one of her story threads where JFC got her gender wrong. XD
At least I wasn't the only one. And I DID mention that she never bothered to correct me when I'd call her "dude".
:mon sweat:
-
On the topic of being mistaken for a guy, I think the last time it happened was in 9th grade... so 3 years ago now. I never gave much for my messy hair, and I often wore hawaiian tshirts... (It was a phase of mine, lol.) Nowadays it doesn't happen, but my attitude/way of talking is like that of a guy's, and I don't dress very girly either. (I think the last time I wore a skirt was in 7th grade...) The other times were when I was little and always had a short haircut.
Random boy: Why're you playin' with a girl!?
Friend: What're you talking about, he's a boy!
Me: Uh... .__.;;
I'm also in that group that assumes most writers are girls... xD Unless I can clearly see that the person's a guy, that is...
-
Wtf? XD I see I get dragged into another thread lol. It's pretty obvious I'm male cause of my username, but still I apparently sometimes get mistaken. Maybe it's cause of the way I write...
And oh yes, the mysterious OTN... If I hadn't let it slip, everyone would probably still think she's a guy. :P Would think more people had it figured out by now... XD
-
I'm a girl, but I think most people knew that. :otomerika:
I think what'd be more telling was how many of the girls prefer the fairer sex.
-
And oh yes, the mysterious OTN... If I hadn't let it slip, everyone would probably still think she's a guy. :P Would think more people had it figured out by now... XD
Ahh, rokun. I luv ya.
Gotta cut in here cuz it's about time... I comfess - yeah yeah, wrong thread - that I am OTN1 (come on, mods knew this, right?).
Way off topic excuses:
I had to distance myself from my usual insane 'n wild "Commie" self in order to post a serious story that had nothing to do with crazy Yogurt. I wanted readers to have no preconceived notions of me, whether they be negative or positive. That's why I "led everyone to believe" that I was a guy. I simply didn't correct anybody's assumptions. I wanted to be anonymous, though after 3 years of posting, it was a little hard to just be some new writer on the block, and the user began to reflect a certain (and definitely very real) part of me. My more serious side, the more calm me, perhaps the side of me that thought things through a bit more.
I only told a very small number of people. So folks like JFC - sorry, man (but hey, I say "dude" and "man" for girls and guys alike! And generic usage of "man" and "he" all around for the sake of simplicity). Forgive me...? *puppy dog eyes*
(Remember... my main characters wronged each other all the time, but there was always forgiveness at the end............... right?! ^^;;;;;;;;;;; )
Which leads to a question related to this thread's topic: Does knowing if a writer is male or female affect how you read his or her work? Would you go into the story with certain opinions or expectations? I mean, of course there could be subconscious biases you're not in control of, but besides those...
-
lol you know what would have made this tread more fun? If you asked the readers and writers to list all the authors they read and state what they think their gender is XD
then you can reveal the master list of whose what and see what kind of score you end up with XD Kind of like an exam XD
-
@Commie, to be honest, I had a suspicion that it was you xDDDDD I've always wondered how your writing and your alter ego's writing are so similar, and a little bird told me a little secret that set it all in motion xDD So for a year or two, I knew OTN was you, roffle xDDDD
It was pretty easy to tell even through "OTN1"'s writing that it was you. It's pretty much the same argument other people make in the past...
Guys tend to have a more materialistic way of writing while girls dive more into emotion. Of course, that's not to say guys can't dive into emotion or girls can't write materialistically, but there's a certain conceptual way of going about that. To portray emotion, I noticed that male authors convey feelings through use of materialistic means. Whether it be physical gifts or physical expressions, they always seem to use this sort of materialism to progress a story or a character.
Female authors seem to enjoy the use of raw emotion to express a story :0... Take Commie's epic Lovex2 for example. It's entirely emotional driven xDDD. Aya/Miki talk about what they feel 90% of the time while the remaining 10% is action o_o... It's quite tough to explain xDDD I'm sure someone can handle this better than I can...
And at Sukoshi, that would be an epic idea xDDD I'll try it out when I stop feeling lazy, roffle xDDDD
-
Gotta cut in here cuz it's about time... I comfess - yeah yeah, wrong thread - that I am OTN1 (come on, mods knew this, right?).
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!?!??!???
:stunned:
EDIT: Damn, in retrospect it does explain why so many of OTN1's fics were GAM-centric. :nervous
Boy do I feel like a lunkhead.
:dizzy:
So folks like JFC - sorry, man (but hey, I say "dude" and "man" for girls and guys alike! And generic usage of "man" and "he" all around for the sake of simplicity). Forgive me...? *puppy dog eyes*
Oh like you even need to ask.
-
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
It's about time Commie! Sheesh! XD
OTN
-
:O commie was OTN :O I didn't know I swear!
-
I already knew Commie was OTN. XD Was just keeping mum about it. Hehe.
Grats for coming out of the closet, Commie/OTN!
-
Lol, Dave. Oh, Fen. Just making it official, since you told, like, everyone already anyway. <3
Oh like you even need to ask.
JFC, that means a lot to me. Thank you for not being all angry and hating, cuz the fear of that was what made me hesitate to say anything. Your support is integral to my existence. And don't feel like a lunkhead.
Yuuyami, yeah, I kinda wondered if anybody would, uh, see the exact sameness of the writing style. Hah, but yeah, I think you just proved that I wasn't completely nuts for doing what I did. Maybe I was trying to help Team Boy score a point in the emotion category...? =P
<edit> Jesus, Fen. Did you make a secret thread somewhere about me? Haha, Estrea, I kinda knew that you knew without my being told that you knew... if that makes sense. Man, this is way too frickin confusing.
<edit again> And SORRY FOR JACKING THE THREAD.
-
Awww, Commie xDDDD
Don't feel bad~!
It's okay!!
We're one big happy orgy family~~~!!!!
-
Lol Commie, I didn't mean for you to come out. XD but tell me, I was your first right? You were the first to tell me you were OTN huh? Actually you told me before you even started posting as OTN. Ah 4th station days. I don't know how many times I almost let it slip.
I totally agree Yuuyami, Sometimes I put myself into my characters' positions and try to feel what they're feeling or sometimes I put my own emotions into my characters and so what you're reading is an actually a reflection of own self lol how embarrassing
-
Haha, Estrea, I kinda knew that you knew without my being told that you knew... if that makes sense. Man, this is way too frickin confusing.
Yes I know what you mean. XD Not confusing at all. I feel like I already knew you without actually knowing you, and it feels like we've had tons of conversations even though we've never actually IM'ed each other before...if that makes sense. Isn't that odd?
-
*looks around innocently* Uh... yeah... it was all Fen's doing! *points at Fen* XD
Lol, I didn't mean for you to come out either. You know I just love teasing you about that. And I thought with your recent activity around here it was appropriate timing to resume it! Plus, I could share in the fun with °e. :) Still, I'm glad you finally did come clean. It's been long enough after all, and everyone should know you're even more of a genius than you let on.
-
My doing? How is this my doing?!!!
I didn't tell anybody!!! It was much fun watching JFC comment on Commie's fics without know who OTN really was!! Why would I want to spoil that fun!? lol
-
 Supreme Titans of Teasing Commie is what you all are. One of these days I'm gonna smite all of you with a well-placed sentence in a story.
Yeah, Estrea, I feel the same!
So, let's talk about this thread's topic: SEX. :jphip:
-
>.>
I don't think any of us here have much experience in that field sorry
-
So, let's talk about this thread's topic: SEX. :jphip:
*abruptly comes back into the thread*
:gmon peakaboo:
what about sex?
-
Huh?! Um...*blushes* I have nothing to say about that topic. :sweatdrop: lol :nervous
-
:: sings ::
Talking about sex baby :otomerika:
talk about all the good things and the bad things that may be.
:cow: :wigglypanda:
man that song was so long ago...I feel old.
-
...Damn, I feel young reading all of this. xD In the presence of too many senpais, I am. x_X
So, let's talk about this thread's topic: SEX. :jphip:
Does this mean I should cover my eyes and run away now? .__.
-
Well, I have a knack for making a thread go off topic.
By sex, I meant the "male or female" question. DAVE. :tama-mad: (p.s. <3)
(I did kinda set it up to get a few of those responses, though, so I'm sorry for making you feel all young and uncomfortable. ^^; )

Whatever you touch make things go off topic. Even if not on purpose it just goes off the road. Shame, Commie, shame!
Back on topic: Female
-
^
^Haha, I was just joking around, no worries. xD
Y'know, when I first started writing fanfics for H!P, I was bothered that I was writing about two girls... ._. Especially since I'm a girl myself. I was also surprised by the number of female authors. Back then, I never would have found the thought of two girls together so...normal. XD
-
When I first started writing I was okay with the femslash but I always felt wierd writing my own, cause as a guy you already have a set amount of creeper points and writing two girl relationship stories, not so much with the helping. In the end it all worked out cause I have been mistaken for a girl dozens of time so really win-win.
Who would of thought that a strong liking of writing fluff and love for pink would make people think your a girl. In my opinion thats a one way ticket to manliness. :pandaaa:
-
Haha, I was just joking around, no worries. xD
 LOL! Pfft, that's the last time I try to be sensitive. (;P)
Oh, Fen. Just be glad I didn't try and touch your steering wheel. Or maybe I did. I think I did! And see? We're alive. Heh, point for Com.
Lol, Mavpanda, I think I love you. Yeah, when you think about it, there's this idea that it's creepy for a guy to write that stuff, but ok for a girl to. In my opinion, the fact that any of us is writing these mushy, fluffy stories about real life people and pairing them off with each other is the ultimate creepy. But hey, if it gets the creativity flowing, then it's ok. Never let it stop me completely before.
-
I am just going to go with the circular logic and say that maybe we aren't creepy, maybe everyone else that thinks were creepy for thinking were creepy...
...
...
...
yeah that will do it. booya everyone else who thinks fanfic writing is creepy.
:: snatches up the possible comrade love ::
-
Okay maverickpanda has basically forced me to come post here due to major secret reveals about OTN1, who is still far and away my favorite fanfiction author ever (remember when i used to comment on your stories all the time commie? *puppy dog eyes*).
I can see why you would be hesitant to post under your old forum name due to a bias against a crazy or outgoing personality. Not gonna lie, i would look at something like that far before I looked at something like gender. If I guy writes a story, even if it is femslash, I'm not going to go into it with any sort of preconceptions. My good friend maverickpanda writes and I still enjoy his stories immensely.
Even more on topic. I am a girl. Like most of the people here apparently.
I feel totally awkward just jumping in here when I hardly ever post my own fanfiction on JPHiP. All my recent stuff is Wonder Girls related and up on Spectacle. So um check it out *shameless plug*. I'm not gonna lie commie, I totally started writing because of your awesome stories, i'm sure they are an inspiration to a lot of us!
-
Annnnnnd so the current count is at....
Girls: 24
Guys: 8
THREE TO ONE RATIO currently. XD Fun times.
And that was just a random comment cos I'm bored.
-
^See? That's why my writer's block theory works so well. amirite? 8D
I have something to comfess too. Fen and I aren't really sisters. [bgcolor=#000000]We're brothers.[/bgcolor]
I mean hi, Female.
-
[bgcolor=#000000]We're brothers.[/bgcolor]
:bleed eyes:
Nova, it's been a while. Thanks for the kind words, and of course I remember you and your comments! <3 I'm glad that you understand the whole thing about biases against people with already known personalities. I mean, it's not a terrible or unnatural bias to have, because without it, we wouldn't have preferred/favourite anythings. I'd sooner pick up a novel by one of my favourite authors than pick up the book beside his, or pick up a book by, say, Conrad Black (even though it might end up being the most awesome book ever written). But yeah, I'd never make the choice based on gender.
Pimp those stories, man! No shame.
-
The last time I check I was a girl
(looks down)
yep! There they are!
BTW, the twins say hi! * we need a boobie emoticon *
-
^There is a boobie emoticon....lol.
-
^XD!!
*looks down*
...
JUST 'CAUSE I DON'T HAVE COMPANY DOESN'T MEAN I'M A GUY. :err:
(Note: Fail attempt at being humorous.)
-
Whoa, is Davetron a fic lurker? ;D
Ok, now that the proverbial cat's out of the bag and even I know the secret, gotta ask...does "OTN1" stand for anything (like, is it an acronym for something) or was it just yet another moment of awesome Commie randomness?
-
Heh, I dunno. My internet service provider at the time was OCN, and I saw that icon every day on my desktop. That plus the fact that I like the almost-rhyming word "ocean" must've conditioned my brain to choose something as meaningless as "OTN". As for the "1"... I have no idea what possessed me to drop that in. Commie randomness. I hate the number, though, and wish I hadn't added it. But yeah, it all boils down to my being a silly dork. :nervous
-
Awww that is so adorably random and dorky. <3 randomness.
Now since we are on the subject or forumn names, I am going to propose a question that may bring up some hillarious conversation.
How did you come up with your handles and do you think that for the most part people's handles are a good indicator the the user's gender?
:pandaaa:
-
^There is a boobie emoticon....lol.
there is?? where ? im a dork and dunno how to do it. and it not in the preset list. OMG.. WANT!!! lol
some day I shall try to write fan fics, im not so good at them tho.
WAIT. LOL the more tab, duh.. im such a dork!!!
:ptam-aww: :ptam-shy:
:O me still no find, ok my mission as a pixel artist. make a great set of TITS!

Commie dorkiness = epic winz

Mine is just my initials.

Nope (or at least, not always).
:nervous XD

When you click the "more" tab, it should be found just before the monkey ones. :)
Also, the smiley is not just "boobs", but actually "bouncy boobs" (replaced the quotes with colons, of course). :D
:bouncy boobs:
-
Wow, OTN1 is commie! That is awesome, I totally couldn't tell, lol. I don't usually bias stories on gender as much as I do previously written stories, even though I know I shouldn't necessarily, I mean, look at my old stories. If someone read that crap and then saw I had written something new, they might be like, "Hahaha no." Know what I mean?
But some stories you can read and go, 'Yup that person's a girl/boy!" Lol.
I, myself, am a girl, for however much I gripe and complain, I wouldn't change that fact. And I don't think it's weird as a girl to write two girls together, actually I think it's weirder to write about real people.
Though that doesn't stop me. XD
As for how I came up with my username, well, when I was but a wee li'l one and I first started using sites and IMs where you needed a handle, my friend was trying to help me come up with one. She told me that she had a friend who used 'Random Li'l Weirdo' as a username and I wanted something like that, hence rndmnwierd or random and weird with weird spelled wrong.
That's also pretty much my only username because I've used it for so long that any deviation from it results in brain overload and explosions. Been there, tried that, forgot my passwords. Oh Gaia, how I miss you.
-
As male as they get, I'd be very shocked if anyone had ever mistaken me for a girl.
-
Male here and I feel female have better ways of describing emotions than the males but what do i know, I am not a great writer anyway :( but I try
-
Male here and I feel female have better ways of describing emotions than the males but what do i know, I am not a great writer anyway :( but I try
Without stereotyping, the fairer sex is probably better at expressing their emotions most times. But this may have no relation to writing or authorship.
-
Writing has nothing to do with gender, but it does influence the nature of the content. Our brains do tend to be wired a little differently with different priorities. XD
-
Male here
-
I can't believe i haven't posted yet
But i don't really need to, seeing how its extremely obvious ( even without looking at my profile :D )
-
i'm a girl~ ^^
-
Wow, 44 girls and only 16 boys...(i'm guessing the first two responses are some kind of jokes, right?)
Well, I'm a boy, and frankly I thought most people here were men. Why? Here in Mexico, most girls only like male actors and singers, and vice versa.
Men don't say "I like'em", we say something like "they play ok" or "i like their music". The "I like this singer/actor" phrase is almost exclusive for girls.
So being used to the "boys likes girls" and "girls likes boys", and watching the poll results I was like "dam!! I'm in a girl heaven" (not that I dont like it XD)
I do not intend to offend someone here, but if I shall do it, post what part and why you consider it offensive.
-
Male here~
-
Writing has nothing to do with gender, but it does influence the nature of the content. Our brains do tend to be wired a little differently with different priorities. XD
On that note... (http://bookblog.net/gender/genie.php) :P
Scoring male on most of my inputs.
-
^Ahahaha! Well, it isn't absolute. XD There are always exceptions to the rule. :P I tried a few inputs and while my personal blog entries tend to be female, when I start writing fic it veers sharply towards a more masculine tone. Don't ask me why. XD
-
my recent stuff has been female, my past stuff has been male, I guess a little toward the population :nervous
-
XD I just tried it out. I put only one page worth of writing. It said with my latest one-shot I'm a male and with my current chapter fic, that I'm working on right now, says I'm a female. o.O That was amusing. lol
-
It's telling me I'm a female when I plug in chapters of my writing, but I think it might be a bit skewed because of all the "she" and "her" keywords because I'm writing completely about, well, girls  Without the points for those I'd have scored male
I don't really have anything else of enough content to plug in there :huhuh
-
I plugged in the first chapter of "an annoying paradise" (one of the sho-comi) chapters and it came up female, but only by a small margin.
I plugged in the fourth chapter of "an annoying paradise" (one of the macho shounen jump chapters) and it came up female by a wide margin.
-
@ Rokun, yeah I noticed all the pronouns to refer a female as being highlighted in my chapter fic. Then I decided to put in my one-shot, which also focuses on a girl, so there are she and her in there, but not as much. That's probably why I got male for that.
That site is rigged/fake!
-
It's not the prevalence of male or female pronouns, but that female writing apparently tends to use more pronouns in general while male writing uses more noun specifiers (http://www.angelfire.com/fang/gimiv/Lesson_4.html). The algorithm for the gender genie is based on this: http://u.cs.biu.ac.il/~koppel/papers/male-female-text-final.pdf (http://u.cs.biu.ac.il/~koppel/papers/male-female-text-final.pdf)
So probably a more descriptive writing style comes up as male, and a more personal, emotion/character/POV-driven narrative probably comes up female.
Since idol fic is mostly the latter case, yeah they'd come up female. Probably world-building AU focusses score male. And don't forget to check the actual scores, because often they're pretty close and thus not really indicative of "gendered" writing.

Meeooo
