Unfortunately, to me at least, unless it was a Nogizaka46 song, it isn't. Sounded too much like something from the purple team. Dress style and colours and all (well, given the name, what else would you expect).

My main thoughts -
1. Why did they perform a Nogizaka46 song?
2. Did they realize they wasted having Yuko as center with that choreography and threw in that bit from the beginning of Heavy Rotation at the end?! XD
3. Dammit, the chorus is in my head.

the dance and the song are cute..but,i agree that it's so nogizaka46..LOL..i imagine N46 perform this song and i'm sure it'll more suitable..
but,no matter what people say about the song,in the end AKB is still million seller XD

It's the type of pattern that's on their clothes. That's also why they sing "blue white blue" in the chorus.

Haters gonna hate.

It's different, and probably not what everyone was expecting, but I didn't find it nearly as Nogizaka46 as everyone was making it out to be. Even the outfits, though similar, are way nicer than Nogizaka's have ever been. I already think the song is rather nice, so it will probably grow on me even more with repeated listening. At this point in time though, I don't think I'm gonna buy this single unless the rest of the b-sides are really something.

I just realized what the problem is, at least for me.

I was expecting Heavy Rotation pt II, which this verymuchso is not.

Also, I think this sounds more like one of their summer songs. Picture this being done on a beach with them wearing gingham patterned bikinis.

Yeah, I think a lot of this is the song not being what people expected. Before the preview everyone was even saying they wanted Heavy Rotation 2 and the like, so it's probably something of a shock.

What I was expecting was something balls-to-the-walls, something with the oomph that Heavy Rotation and Beginner packed, but not necessarily something that looked & sounded the same. I wasn't expecting such an unappealing song, with strong Nogizaka46 vibes. Can you see yourself singing / dancing along with this? Do you expect it to top the karaoke charts? How many non-fans will confuse AKB with N46 over this? Bad mojo all around.

Future Girls song sounds way better than Gingham Check >.> All the latest AKB singles have grown on me by some time tho. I didn't like Flying Get or Manatsu no Sounds Good at first either. Well, now I'm looking forward to Under Girls song. Hoping for something wild 'cos, damn, Sayaka is there!

It'll probably grow on me, but first impressions at the moment I think it sucks and sounds plain.

Before everyone starts pointing fingers at me like I'm getting the lyrics tattooed across my back, I'm not giving the song that much praise. Though I suppose it's heaps in comparison to everyone else lol. I guess I'm playing devil's advocate if nothing else.

No, the song doesn't have that oomph or as much character as Heavy Rotation or Flying Get, but I think it's far from horrible. I think it would've been acceptable as a b-side. And honestly, I don't think the song itself sounds much like Nogizaka at all. To paraphrase mal, I think it's more of a package things. The song, the dresses, and the choreo together do have a Nogizaka vibe (I maintain that it's all better than Nogizaka); but, had I heard the song by itself at first, I don't think it would've been compared to them.

Really far from my expectation
It's no energetic dance and the costume is just *sigh*
Moreover, what is Oshima doing at the end of the song? Totally unnecessary!
That move surely does not fit the tune she was in

About the song...
Although it's nice, it definitely does not meet the type of a Sousenkyo Single which, IMO, always sounds different and being greater or more 'larger-than-life' than other AKB48 singles.
I was expecting that this single would have a great dancing and a sound like 'Iiwake, Maybe', 'Heavy Rotation' or 'Flying Get' which all have a loud, near-rock sound as well as nice guitar lines and, with the exception of Heavy Rotation, a guitar solo but this one, is just far from my expectation and I'm totally disappointed with this.

It is 'Show Fight' that should be released as a Sousenkyo Single, not Gingham Check

To give the song credit, it has a pleasant and catchy tune. There are some quick but simple hand actions that are easy for fans to pick up and follow during performances. However, the song does lack the punch that a lot of us are expecting from an election single and sounds more like a summer song. It also doesn't fit well with Yuko's style. The dance choreography leans towards the girly side while Yuko's movements tend to be bigger and more in-your-face. It was kind of awkward to watch her doing all the funky kicks and leg movements in that frilly dress.

The costumes are cute but they don't stand out with the lack of bright and contrasting colours. I'm not digging the length of the dresses as they look messy during the more vigorous dance parts. Shorter dresses would work better visually. I'm waiting to see the red/white PV costumes in action as they appear to have more attitude.

Anyway, I'm giving them time to improve on the overall performance. Flying Get was messy as hell during its first few performances with the huge number of mic stands and we saw how they removed several of them over time which resulted in the much smoother performance we see now.

P.S. I admit I prefer Show Fight as it sounds more powerful and is the kind of song that I really like. It's a pity they didn't use it for the Senbatsu Girls but hey, if Aki-p sticks to the last two years' formula, we'll be getting a cool song pretty soon! :grin:

Well, here's my two cent for what it's worth:

I think the song is quite nice. I find Gingham Check to be quite catchy, & the choreography to be relaxing & enjoyable. (I like Nogizaka too but migawd their choreography is downright horrendous... don't think it the girls' fault, not completely at least, but more of the choreographer's. Send an akb/nmb/ske choreographer already aki-p! The Gingham Check dance is godly in comparison... off topic.) Nonetheless, I must concede this certainly was not what I was expecting. & I think this is the problem with this song: expectation & compatibility.

I think most of us was expecting a song with the high tension of Heavy Rotation, or one with the power & impact of Beginner. This song is none of the above, which fails expectation. The aforementioned two traits also goes hand in hand with Yuko's style & character, while this song does not. This fails compatibility. With these two wishes for the A-side not being met, we experience disappointment.

However, I don't think this means Gingham Check is a bad song. It just is not what we expected, & is not compatible with Yuko's style. Imagine Mayu or Yuki being center instead of Yuko, & this song wouldn't have the above-mentioned problem imho, & we might all even be satisfied with it. ~~(lol mayuzaka)~~
Certainly, trying to replicate the success of Heavy Rotation wouldn't be an easy task too. But this being potentially Yuko's last centered single, we all likely wished the best out of it. While there is certainly nothing wrong with feeling disappointed, I do believe this single have many other upsides (the B-sides), & hope this single do well, since it is potentially Yuko's last centered single.

In the end of the day, I do hope Yuko will have the opportunity to center another upcoming single, one that does meet our expectation, & fulfill compatibility.

I had to listen to it a few times for the song to kick-in.

Now with GC, it's not as catchy as the previous SS singles. Like it didn't really grab me like the others.
The song is. . .cute. I want to say similar to Ue kara Mariko, but that's just me.

I enjoyed Yuko's little dance solo. And UME!

First time of watching and listening impression : Guruguru Curtain v2 XD

But after checking it out several times, the song is pretty nice and costumes are just "okay" if you don't compare it with other Senbatsu songs.

Yes, it has a strong NZK46 vibe to it. Maybe Aki-P's trying to really introduce a NEW AKB48 w/o Acchan? :huhuh

The chorus is stuck in my head :lol:

Yuko's solo dancing is of course, damn awesome, just like Heavy Rotation :thumbsup Doesn't fit the soft feel of the song though. She deserved better.

Waiting for where Show Fight's gonna be. Already on my To-Buy list.

EDIT : Juuryoku Sympathy should've totally been the single instead.

I was just wondering that why people say that it's not nice.. I :heart: it!! It doesn't really have a big impact.. But when you repeat it again and again, it is the song for your day.. For me, it doesn't matter what kind of song they sing.. I still love them no matter what.. They are just so cute in their outfits.. :) Wish that this will still be a million-seller.. :) Yeah, costumes are Nogizaka-like.. Hehe.. :nervous

to paraphrase the late Texas Senator, Lloyd Bensten: Gingham Check, I served with Flying Get, I knew Flying Get, Flying Get was a personal favorite of mine. Gingham Check, you're no Flying Get.

But so what......Ponytail to Shushu, Flying Get, Heavy Rotation, Iiwake Maybe, Namida Surprise! Boku no Taiyou, Sakura no Shiori, Yuuhi wo Miteiru ka, ........yada, yada, yada..................a pretty big variety of song types.

I do think Gingham Check is one of those songs that will win people over in time, and in fact, two or three years from now, when this song is performed again by AKB48, or one of the associated groups, some former naysayers will be saying "Oh, I love this song!!"

And looking like Nogizaka is a compliment! Those girls are cute, and AKB48 ladies are as well. So, yeah, Tenkei san, where is that Tatoo shop?

I'd heard some bad things about this so waited till now to check it out (was worried for my Yuko & Mayu #1/#2 song)

And.... first thoughts... Nogizaka! Second thoughts, a bit like Not Yet!

But then, I kept repeating it.

I really do like the song, its not in your face like Heavy Rotation etc, but has some "AKB-quality" that Nogizaka doesn't. Strangely, Paruru & Kawaei are the utter stars of this first performance, gonna miss them both when they are gone.

Overall, I give this song a :thumbsup and it has more immediate impact on me than songs like Beginner/Flying Get/Ue Kara Mariko/Manatsu no Sounds Good etc.

I'm still not used to the song, but I will eventually liked it (maybe) over time...
And we still haven't seen the PV, so I will hold my judging until then...

Well, if this title song turned out to be not as good as I hope,
at least we still have undergirls, next girls, and future girls...
So far the undergirls songs never let me down :)

Gingham Check: I really, really like it. I like it so much better than Flying Get. It's fun, energetic, pleasant to listen to... all-around good.
Show Fight: Sounds cool but kinda typical. Good, though.

It does sound similar to some other AkiP releases. Maybe it's because the same producer has been writing for several groups for several years. :lol: As long as the basis for the sound is something I like and has fun elements to it, doesn't bother me one bit. Not everything can be a Beginner or a Heavy Rotation. Epic releases are epic because they are exceptional, not the norm. Just because something is not quite 'exceptional' doesn't mean it can't be a cool release.

Wow. I took a break off the forum for a few days, and suddenly 2 more pages worth of posts has been already up.
I guess I need to check more huh..

My expectations for the A-side was based on the Future Girls' Show Fight, and I had not heard of Gingham Check at that time.

Once I did hear Gingham Check, it was like a Nogizaka46 single, but it wasn't all that bad, I guess it could grow on people, just like the other singles have.

Being a Yuko oshi, however, the song wasn't really to my expectations, but, oh well, at least I know what I'm getting.

Even with all the doubts regarding Gingham Check, I think this one will be really fun to watch, since the dance and all its gimmicks is actually really cute...

The first time I heard Gingham Check I was disappointed.
But now hearing a it a second and third time, I kind of like it!
It you listen to just the song without looking at them in the gingham dresses, it really doesn't have a Nogizaka feel to it.
It kind of has a Yuuhi wo Miteru ka feel to it, to me.
And I like it!
I really like the Future Girls song too...
I think if they had switched A and B sides this single would be more pleasing.
I'm kind of expecting Aki-P to just be like "Surprise! I lied." and switch them... XD
But that's not going to happen...

Love the simplicity of the cover (much like the song is) though I expect something more than that.

DANCE FIGHT!! WOO HOO!! :muffin:

It's a refreshing change to see Yuko up against someone who is not Acchan and this time it's Spunky Yuko versus Cute Mayuyu! The PV seems really interesting and fun from all the news clips so far. I love the whole biker chick and retro American style. The PV looks set to be very different from all of AKB48's previous PVs. The only thing that can be better is the dance choreography. It just doesn't seem intense enough for the PV's setting and a dance fight. Anyhow, the song is definitely growing on me and it'll be one of those happy songs on my daily playlist.

As for the CD covers, boy, I love them! 50s American poster style is right up my alley and the movement of the dress captured in Yuko's solo shot just rocks. It makes me appreciate those costumes more now. However, I'm still sticking to my opinion that the costumes are not showy enough for stage although they look good in print.

Anyway, I'm getting good vibes from the single and can't wait for the full PV of Gingham Check! :note:

After listening to Show Fight, I am convinced that it should have been the song to go with Gingham Check's PV. Such an aggressive song totally fits the dance-off concept. I can imagine both teams sizing each other up at the beginning of the song and the strong prominent beats before the chorus are great lead-ins to an intense dance battle. Show Fight, Dance Fight! :rock:

Let's hope the actual PV for Show Fight by the Future Girls doesn't disappoint. There is so much potential for the dance choreography to be mindblowing awesome.

Why isn't this song on the album rather than single?

27th single should be about election ranked members than another send-off project of a member who didn't participate the election and won't be around when it releases.

About the selection list, I'm not surpised. They try to feature every member who is relevent to Aki-P's story of AKB. Yeah, I means Sayaka and other 2nd gen, 3rd gen (except Mayu and Yukirin) and later gens members are just a bunch of supporting characters in his mind.

Watching Acchan's graduation mv made me really cried a lot seeing the members watching her walk off the stage pursuing her dreams to become a actress and a solo artist, I wish her the best of luck and I will miss her very much she will be always be my favorite oshi in my heart and she the reason why I became a big fan of akb48 way back in 2006. That was really nice.....one of the first things that got me noticing AKB48, was their ability to do choral arrangments, because of the size of the group (they rarely do harmonies, but with the right songs, their voices together make really wonderful music.

Show Fight's PV is gritty as expected. Initially some of the girls looked kind of off as they just ain't fierce enough. But as the fights go on, the girls' expressions got better and it was really fun to watch, especially when they got KO-ed :twisted: I wish the dance choreography was more aggressive though.

Just watched Gingham Check's PV and oh my gosh, best f*cking PV in a long time! Love all the random and nonsensical plots. Cheesy love scenes (fave is Yuko's), flying Mariko, old-school Yukirin dancing with Godzilla in the background, corny text splashed across the screen!

And Mayuyu pushing Yuko's head was priceless! Not liking the idea of Mayuyu holding the guy's hand but heck, this is all for fun so I'm willing to let it pass XD

I think my favorite part is Mayu's zombie backup dancers. That cracked me up.

Gingham Check: Sweet PV, one of my favorite ever. So much stuff going on, with that awesome style. Motorgirls :rock: Mayu + Zed dance was ridiculously funny, while Jurina and Mayu look awesome in their respective scenes. I would give all my monies, for there to be bonus photos of Jurina in the biker or criminal outfit.

Show fight!: Incredible PV, my god.

Doreimi: While the song itself is boring, the PV has some great shots of the members, especially Wasamin and Kaotan.

Nante: Sweet merciful Mayuyu, Sayaka and Mocchi look gorgeous. Kumi and Yuka are crazy too. Still not a fan of the song, though, even with the bikinis scenes in the PV :V

Even though all of the girls look flawless, like always, I have to admit that I'm a little disappointed of Gingham Check since the only one I saw were Yuko and Mayu. I get that they are first and second place but Yukirin got third and she was barely in the video. Same goes to Tomochin and Haruna and I wouldn't have known that Kasai is in the video if she didn't make an appearance in the last minute.

Snow fight was pretty awesome. I couldn't tear my eyes away from Moeno and Harukyan. And I just have to say one thing about Nante Bohemian: AKIIIIICHA :inlove:
That girl just climbed up a few steps on my oshimen list.

I LOVE the Gingham Check PV, and the song is marvellous... really looking forward to being able to see it properly on my tv when the disks arrive :D

The Undergirls look beautiful in the Nante PV, and my choice of single was based on Undergirls, but oh dear... the song :( I'm hoping it grows on me... I was really hoping that it was going to be a 'Kimi no koto..' quality song, but it does nothing for me. Will just have to content myself with watching the PV.

Show Fight is a good song, and the PV is ok, but not really the type that I like to watch, but 'Doreimi' .... I've forgotten it already :(

I like the show fight and nante bohemian more rather than gingham check. Even though show fight reminds me of team k`s song 'Alive', the dark theme. While nante bohemian... the song is standard but the pv is good. IMO it's more like the shared scenes of the members is better than gingham check. All the girls get their own share. Unlike gingham check which is all about Yuko and Mayu. :smhid
While gingham check :badluck: I like the song, but the pv.... The pv is nice, but for AKB`s pv.... :on redcard: not good enough if it was compared to other senkyo pv.
While doremifa onchi... :bored: It's quite good, but not my type of music.

Don't get me wrong, I like Yuko and Mayu, and I do understand they are the #1 and 2. But, to make a pv focusing on them too much like this and the other only just playing supporting actresses... eeeehh??

Gingham Check: Good stuff. Dancing ghouls and criminals were probably my favorite part.

Nante Bohemian: Mocchi looked so fine a good god so fine.

Show Fight: Why can't mjsk3 be like this? Lovetan and Suzuran getting knocked the fuck out was great. Also Moeno looked so fine.

Things I liked about Gingham Check:
- Rena and that knife!(?) (video freezes at that exact frame)

- I liked that Tomo~mi actually has screen time, and that TomoZombie!

- Choreography is very energetic, and I like it.

- I didn't really mind the "cluttered" feeling, as the relationships fit the lyrics, HOWEVER

Things I didn't like:
- The Godzilla thing with Yukirin was just really.. out of place, to say the least.

- Crappy CG The gunshots were kind of (really) bad, as well as the Godzilla thing, can't really blame them
for that one though.

So, I've finally watch the Gingham Check DVDs so here are my thoughts:
Yes, finally, I bought Type A on release day, and then hunted around for Type B to get a Mayu store bonus photo, but only managed a MayuJurina one... and have been away quite a while...

Gingham Check - Amazing PV. I've always loved the song, and the promo images of the PV were great. But the whole thing is just stunning. I love how it is basically a load of trailers for B-movies, as I love that whole grindhouse style. The whole thing is just so much fun. And there is loads of Yuko and Mayu - which is exactly what I voted for!

Yume no Kawa - This is a really lovely song, and a lovely PV to go along with it. A lovely song for Acchan and she will be sorely missed. Acchan <3

Do Re Mi Fa Onchi - Wasamin makes a great centre. Can't recall much else, but the song is a lot better than I thought it would be with that title. Strange to see Wasamin in her Mujin Eki outfit and liked the 2nd half of the PV a lot more. Was nice seeing Myao too. The whole thing with Wasamin centre reminded me so much of all the excitement of the elections, which leads nicely onto...

27th Single Election Documentary - When DVD bonuses are too long and irrelevant I get put off and don't watch them, but this fit right in and was pretty enjoyable. Enjoyed seeing clips of other members who didn't make the cut for any of the PVs and the whole thing was nicely done and included some footage I'd like to see more of, like the Team K tour.

Nante Bohemian - The song and PV are just so much fun. The PV especially because it has three of the most beautiful AKB members in it (Akicha, Asuka, Shimazaki) and flanked by SayaMilky, who are always beautiful.

Show Fight! - I never liked the song, but it sounds better on this DVD than the low quality rip I'd previously heard. I don't like the whole fighting thing, and if I hadn't been watching Majisuka 3, I would completely hate this PV. A lot of the characters from MG3 are in it too... And I still don't get the Muto Tumu appeal. I've seen her in lots of Team 4/KKS LODs and she completely passed me by and I was so surprised at her prelim and final election rank. She still doesn't click here. Ranran does though.

And that's it. Didn't watch the Type B bonuses because its late and they are really long. But I think I'll be watching these PVs quite a lot, they are really good fun :)

^I really like that concept. If it were a tad easier to make one for us non-Japanese fans I'd definitely give it a try.

The reason the director wanted me on the NTV quiz was because of my guitar covers. He asked me to make a Gingham Check one as it was their most recent song at the time. I figured the full version was too long and repetitive so I used a shorter backing track with all the main elements of the song:

I like the longer version so much better than Kahn`s work. It's not that his version of gingham check isn't good, it's just a matter of preference, i guess. The longer version has the akb vibe more.

Thanks for sharing, but if there's anything I hate it's a wall of gifs :nervous

Especially on the first post of a new page, because that means I have to load the 7.5mb~ worth every time I open it.

I always go by the one 500kb~ gif is fine, but anything more than 1mb should be thumbed imo.

We don't have super strict rules for this as it's a pain to enforce, but think of the other people with worse internet connections.
The last thing I want is the AKBar48 turning into the K-pop section...
