Chapter 5-Open up your black heart


"Say what? A-a witch?"

Mayu's sudden, strange confession shocked her.

"What did she mean by 'witch'? Like a witch with potions and hexes?"

"Mm-hm. I'm a witch from a different world from here."

"Huh?"

"Look, I'm not evil. But, if someone tries to hurt you, I won't forgive them."

Yuki was too confused to follow anything, and her face turned blood red.

"It was my duty to come here and make someone happy."

"Huh?! What the hell?"

*TH-WHACK*

"Again?!"

"Yuki-chan, stop being so cold!"

Again, Yuki went silent. She calmed down and waited for Mayu to speak again.

"Anyways, I had to find the coldest, loneliest, saddest person here and find a way to make them happy. Then, I finally found you."

"Eh?"

"Compared to everyone I've ever met, you had the coldest heart, because you lived in the darkest past. And, because of that, I'll make sure your heart will be healed!"

"B-but..."


Before she knew it, Mayu and Yuki were standing in front of the bulletin board filled with club sign-up forms.

"..W-what is this for?"

"You need to make some friends. I think if you join one of the clubs, you should find plenty of people who'll like you."

Yuki had these deeply intense thoughts of screaming in Mayu's face and returning to her cold life, but if she tried, she'd start feeling sick or Mayu would whack her with the fan.

"C'mon. At least sign up for ONE."

Mayu pushed her foward a bit, and Yuki gulped loudly.

She was face-to-face with the forms, staring intensly at all of them.

Then, again, that strange feeling that rose within her this morning came and took over her. She felt her heart pound and her curiosity arouse.

Unconsciously, she took the pen and signed her name on one of the forms.

"Ah! That looks fun!"

Yuki realized the sheet she signed was for show choir auditions.

"Glee club?"

"Why'd you choose that?"

She ran through her thoughts and smiled a bit.

"..I...love singing..and music.. I wanna be an idol someday..."

"Mayu thinks you'll be a great idol, Yukirin!"

Yuki's eyes widened when she heard that.

"Yukirin." Only Takeru called her that as a child.

"H-how do you know that nickname?"

"Eh? I just thought it sounded cute. Has someone called you that before?"

Yuki looked down and blushed a bit.

"..Only..Takeru-nii."

"Ah..."


Yuki and Mayu were both staring at the form. They both had their names signed on it.

"Auditions are next week, so we need to train 'til then."

"Un..."

Then, Yuki's "black" side kicked in again.

"Keh! Wait a minute!!! This is YOUR fault!"

"Oh no..."

"You. If you hadn't cursed me with your.... and the.... What did you do anyway?"

Mayu smiled brightly and winked.

"Remember the chocolate?"

"Eh?"

Flashback

"Wait! At least take this. Mayuyu's Magic chocolate desu!"

End

Yuki was dombfounded. She was tricked so easily by Mayu into having the spell put on her. And, by candy, no less.

"All the candies that I specially make have different magic powers in it. The chocolate you ate melted the darkness and cold emotions out of your heart."

"Ehh?!"

"I know it's a bit strange, but it's the only way I know how."

"Like hell!"


Next classes
Mayu was in home ec.(cooking) and Yuki was in art

"Damn... Why am I doing this..?"

"Kashiwagi-san."

"Hm?"

She turned her head and suddenly saw a ridiculous hand drawn sketch of a fat school boy in her face.

Under normal circumstances, Yuki would get mad and rip the paper to shreds, scaring them.

But, when she saw it, to their surprise...

"Hahahahahahahaha!!! What IS that?! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!"

She was cracking up laughing. Over-reacting , in fact, that everyone in the classroom and in the home ec. room could hear her cackles.

Over at the home ec. room, Mayu turned her head once she heard Yuki's excessive laughter.

"Yukirin...?"

"She seems to be having fun. ..I wonder what happened to her... Kashiwagi..."

One of Mayu's classmates, Ota Aika, was helping her cook and heard Yuki's laughs, too.

"This isn't like her, y'know. She's always so dark."

"..I can tell. I kinda met her yesterday."

"...I heard she's had a rough past. What could've happened?"

Mayu only stared down the hallway until Yuki's laughter calmed down and stopped.

"Hmm..."


In class, Mayu and Aika were making tea. Mayu selected a recipe for a drink called "Milk Tea" and found ways to make it her own.

"Uwaa~ That smells good, Mayu-chan!"

"Now, add some o' this..."

She dropped in a few of her magic potions, saying it was flavoring, and mixed it good.

"Done!"

"Uwaa! I wanna drink!"

When Aika was about to reach for the laddle, Mayu slapped the wooden spoon on her wrist.

"Hey, what was that for?"

"I made this tea specially for ONE person and ONE person alone."

"Mou... Mayu-chan..."


The two girls suddenly heard a crash from across the hall and Mayu instantly ran to the other room.

"Damnit, be careful!!"

"I-I'm sorry..."

"Kashiwagi, ever since yesterday, you've been acting like a total airhead."

"Eh?!"

The male student looked around at everyone, but they looked away, not wanting to get involved.

"Right?! She's been acting like this since last night, right?! This is too weird!!! Kashiwagi, what the hell happened to you?!?!?!"

"Nothing's wrong with me!"

"Yeah, right! You really are a total weirdo, Kashiwagi!"

Yuki looked like she was about to cry, and it broke Mayu's heart to see her let herself suffer.

"C'mon, show me what 'ya got. Show me you're tough."

"I-I..."

He started throwing punches at her, and even though Yuki dodged, she was still very frightened.

He backed her up against the wall and grabbed her wrist, the one she cut so many times. He tightened his grip and Yuki started crying.

"S-s-s-s-st-st-stop-p... S-st-st-st-stop..p-p-pl-pleas-s-s-se..."

"Is that really your weak spot, Kashiwagi?"

When he pulled her sleeve down, he saw all the scars and backed away in fear. Everyone in classroom stared at her wrist with fear and disgust.

Mayu rushed up and saw the scar covered wrist.

"Why didn't you tell me?!"

She grabbed her arm and pulled her to the home ec. room, grabbed a bottle of her milk tea, and ran into an empty classroom.

"Mayu, why are you...?"

Mayu put a finger against her lips and silenced her.

"I'm sorry if this will hurt. I hurt you because I care about you."

She drank the milk tea, not swallowing, and carefully placed her lips to Yuki's wrist.

Yuki started to feel a weird sensation in her wrist. Mayu was transferring the tea into her scars.

The heat in her eyes from this sad emotion in her took over and she couldn't keep her balance.

She was struggling to stay up and was groaning in pain.

"Yuki, please. Just a little longer."

Yuki's eyes were closed tight, trying to hold back the tears.

A stream of the milk tea ran down her wrist and her scars were slowly disappearing. After all of them were gone, Mayu slowly released her grip and parted from her wrist.

Yuki fell to her knees and held her healed wrist.

Mayu saw she wanted to cry, but was strongly resisting.

"It's okay..."

Yuki looked up at her with pain and sadness in her eyes.

"Let it out. It's fine..."

Yuki didn't resist the tears anymore, she cried and cried, hugging Mayu tightly.

Mayu rubbed her back and patted her head, softly whispering her words of comfort. Yuki's tears were overflowing, as if all the pain was released all at once.

"..Why? Why are you here?"

Mayu pulled out a dark bronze star from her pocket.

"It is my final test as a witch. In order to turn the star gold and bright, I must grant happiness to the most miserable person. I chose you, Yuki. I want you to be happy."

"..W-what?"

"You've been tortured your whole life. I want to lift this pain off you for good and bring you the happiness and joy you once had back. That's why I gave you the chocolate and healed your wrist."

Yuki broke the hug and wiped her tears away.

"Really? You care about me this much."

"Of course. I promise, I'll heal your heart no matter what."

Mayu hugged her again, and Yuki accepted it.

"Thank you, Mayu."

Chapter 6-Pitch black fear




"Yukirin! Yukirin! Yukirin!"

Everyone was cheering her name. The light of the glowsticks filled the audience.

They were all in perfect sync.

Yuki was singing in perfect harmony with the music.

As she waved to the audience with a bright smile on her face, the heel of her shoe broke and she fell off the stage.


Yuki suddenly landed on the ground and woke up.

"Eh?!"

She was dreaming and fell off her chair. Mayu and Aki were standing behind her.

"Yuki, are you okay?"

"You looked like you were having a nice dream, Yukirin."

Yuki sat up and blushed a bit, nodding very small so that they wouldn't see.

"What were you dreaming?"

"..Mm, w-well... I remember I ate an orange flavored candy you gave me and..."

She then realized what happened and switched to her black mode. She grabbed Mayu's shirt and held her from the collar.

"MAYUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!"

"C'mon Yukirin... It was a NICE one, right?"

Yuki's eyes went soft and she looked at Aki. She probably didn't know what she meant, so she released Mayu from her grasp.

"Right..." she said in a soft, but annoyed tone.


Later, the two girls went into the auditourium to let Yuki practice her singing.

"Is it really alright to be in here?"

"Don't worry, Yukirin. NO ONE is coming. Trust me."

"Last time I did that, I ate a chocolate that made me turn into a..."

"So, let's hear it!"

Mayu poofed up a radio and started to play a tape on it.

Yuki could recognize it and was about to sing. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath.

But, when she opened them and imagined the crowd, she became scared.

Yuki hadn't felt scared ever since the incident that made her turn black. But, now, Yuki was taken over by a bad case of stage fright that was reawakened in her. She didn't volunteer to go up front to classrooms, but this was different.

She missed her cue and stood there like a statue until Mayu stopped the music.

"Yukirin?"

Her lips were trembling and she couldn't speak.

"Yukirin~!"

"........I-I...........I c-c...can't............."

"Eh?"

She shook her head and knelt down to the ground, curled up like a little ball.

"I can't!! I can't do it!!!

She started crying from the fear, so Mayu came close to her and comforted her.


Later, Yuki was walking out of the library alone, when she bumped into someone.

"Oh my god, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean..." She looked up and saw what she thought was the most handsome boy she'd ever seen.

Of course, it was her first time seeing him up-close and she never had true emotion before.

But, his handsomeness seemed to stand out from the rest.

She got a closer look and recognized him. The boy in front of her was none other than the school's star basketball player, and most popular ikemen, Miyazawa Sae.

"M-Mi-Miyazawa-kun! I-I-I'm sorry!"

He only smiled and patted her head a bit.

"Don't worry 'bout it. I didn't see you coming, so it's kinda both our faults."

Yuki giggled, then Sae help her back onto her feet. She then realized Sae was wearing a jersey and carrying a basketball under his arm.

"You going to practice?"

"Yeah, just came from changing. Wanna come watch?"

"Ah, can't. I need practice on my singing. I'm joining the glee club."

"Oo~ I'll have to come watch," he said as he tickled her a bit and ran off. "See ya, Yukirin!"

Yuki was suddenly taken by surprise when someone she just met called her that.

When she turned and saw him, he waved goodbye one last time and ran off. She smiled.


Auditions started after school, and Yuki was still nervous.

She peeked out to see the audience(which was just the other MANY members of show choir) and got a little scared.

"Yukirin!"

"Ah, Mayu... Why are you here?"

"Did you learn the lyrics to the song?"

Not answering her and changing the subject was rude, but Yuki only nodded dumbly.

Mayu looked out and turned to Yuki with worried eyes.

"Say... how did you get stage fright?"

Yuki's eyes widened in shock at the question, but she dragged Mayu farther backstage to tell her.

"When I was young, I had to do an oral report for school... But, the students wouldn't listen and kept teasing me. They called me the worst things and, next thing I knew, I froze. I couldn't go up in front of people ever since."

Mayu smiled and handed her a pack of gummies. One of them she took out was a strawberry.

"Hmm~ What now?" she asked in a black tone.

"Do you wanna get rid of your stage fright?"

Yuki then realized she was trying to help. She took the gummy and popped it in her mouth.

Once she gulped it down, she did a few pre-performance rituals in front of a mirror and slapped her cheeks a few times and walked out.

"Good luck."

"Un."

She walked out on stage and shook her hands a bit to relieve stress.

"Number 11, Kashiwagi Yuki."

"Yes, uh, Kashiwagi-san, what will you be singing for us?"

"I'm gonna sing a song I wrote called 'Shortcake'."

"Well, this should be interesting. Let's hear it."

Mayu started to play the music, and she also looked over and saw Sae, Aki, and Asuka watching her and giving her support.

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath. Once she opened them, she smiled and let her heart take hold of the melody.

Before she knew it, she was singing flawlessly, with no fear.

Everyone stood from their seats and applauded loudly. You could even hear Sae and Aki's cheering from across the school.

Yuki felt so happy watching them cheer for her. She was also relieved that her stage fright had gone away.

She bowed and went backstage to Mayu and hugged her tight.

"Thank you so much!"

"Eh?"

She pushed away and smiled.

"You. The candy. It's all worth it. It was amazing. Thank you!"

She hugged her again, then Mayu suddenly acted dumb and pushed her away.

"'Candy'? You mean the gummy? I didn't put anything in it."

"Huh?"

Mayu gave her an akanbe and Yuki switched to black mode and grabbed her shirt again, growling.

"Mayu~~~~~~!!!!"

"Yukirin!"

She heard Sae's voice and returned to normal, whipping her head back to see the three girls behind her.

"Kashiwagi-san, that was beautiful!"

"Nice job out there, sport! Hehe!"

Unlike the others, Sae ran up and hugged Yuki tight.

"You were amazing, Yukirin!"

Yuki felt happy feeling Sae's warm, and hugged him back.

But, then, she suddenly felt something strange. She could define what it was, but the problem was...

The person she was hugging was Sae, right?

Sae suddenly broke the hug and saw her confused expression.

"What's the matter, Yukirin?"

"Ah..nothing!"

Mayu pulled on her arm and signaled her that she had to go.

"Right. See ya guys later!"

They all waved goodbye and, as they left the auditorium and went home, Yuki couldn't help but think of what just happened.

"...That was strange..."

She just decided to shrug and forget about it.

Chapter 7-Black's strange family


Yuki's been looking unusually down for the past three days, and Mayu's been noticing her increasing sleeping habits during class.

Flashback

"Now, who can answer this?"

"............"

"Kashiwagi?"

"...Huh?"

*Snores*

"Kashiwagi?"

"..Oi. Yukirin. Wake up."

"...Eh..?"

"KASHIWAGI!!!!"

"Ah, y-yes!"

*Laughs*

*Blushes*

"Oh no..."

End of Flashback

Mayu had to do something to help.

She slowly tip-toed over to her desk and tapped her shoulder a bit.

"Yukirin... Wake up, Yukirin..."

"..Huh? Mayu?"

Yuki rubbed her eyes and raised her head.

"What's wrong?"

"I'm worried about you, Yukirin. You need to get some sleep."

"Ah, sorry. It's my little brother. *Yawn* He's been keeping me up all night. Dad was busy with work and Mom wasn't home, so I had to help take care of him."

"Don't you have an older brother?"

"Yeah, but he has college."

Mayu crossed her arms and thought a bit, then she got something.

"How about I help you?"

"Eh? Is that alright?"

"Of course! I love little kids."

"Ufufu, okay. I'll walk you over to my house."

Mayu nodded and patted Yuki's head. As she was about to walk out, she bumped into someone.

"Ah, sorry there, cutie!"

"Eh?"

The person she bumped into was Sae.

"Oh, no. It's my fault."

"Hehehe, you're so cute~, I could just eat you up!"

Mayu blushed a bit as Sae gently petted her head and walked off with a bright smile.

"..Yukirin... ..Wh-who was that?"

"Oh, him. That's Miyazawa Sae-kun."

"Sae...-kun...."

Mayu's face was blood red and her heart was beating so fast. She never saw someone so ikemen.

"Kakkoii..."


Yuki walked Mayu over to her house, telling her the countless, crazy stories of her younger brother.

They finally got to the house and approached the door.

"Now... be careful, 'kay?"

*Nods*

Yuki opened the door and tiptoed in.

Then, she got tackled by her little brother, Ryota, from her feet.

"Kyaa!!!"

"Yukirin, are you okay?"

"Haha~! Gotcha, Marimokkori!"

Yuki got up and rubbed the back of her head.

"Mou~ Ryota!!!"

Ryota gave her an akanbe and ran off. He picked up a toy plane and made plane-like sounds.

Mayu's eyes were widened big and focused on the small, but wild boy.

She's never seen a child act this crazy.

"Vroom vroom vroom!!! Catch me if you can, Black Marimokkori!!!!"

"'Marimokkori'?"

"Mou~ Where did he come up with that nickname, anyways?"

"'Marimokkori'?"

"Ever since he got the little marimokkori doll, he's called me that forever. How do I even resemble the thing?!?!?!?!"

"'Marimokkori'?"

"MAYU!!!"

Mayu suddenly snapped out of her trance and looked at Yuki, who was so angry, her face was tomato red.

"Are you even listening to me?!"

"Ah, sorry, Yukirin. What did you say?"

"Argh, nevermind!" she said as she slapped the ground and got up. "Ryota, where are you?!"


The two girls looked all around the house for the little runaway.

But, he was no where to be found. And, they literally checked EVERYWHERE!!!

The kitchen cabinets, the bathrooms, under the beds, even Yuki's closet!

But...nowhere.

Then, it hit her.

"There's only one more place I know he could be. The only place we haven't been near in years."

She whispered to Mayu, then they both started forming an idea.

But to do it, they needed one more person.

Yuki picked up the phone and dialed a number.

Silence....

"Hello?"

"Takeru... Come home. We need help with Takeru."

"Eh? But--"

"Don't you have break soon?!"

"....Okay. I'll be right there."

She hung up and turned to Mayu with a clever, almost devious smile on her face.

"Now, one more thing..." She whispered to Mayu again.

A cheeky, crocked smile appeared on her face and she nodded.


Ryota was hiding somewhere that would, of course, be the LAST place for anyone to look.

The dog house that belong to the dog Yuki and the others used to own.

"They'll never find me... I win again, Marimokkori..."

Then, a small bag flew out and landed in front of the dog house.

Ryota, completely confused, slowly crawls out, to make sure he's unseen, and takes the bag. He then rushes back in the dog house.

He unties the string on the bag and opens it. Inside are many colorful jelly beans.

"Uwaa! Oishii sou~!!!"

He popped three or four in him mouth, then practically devoured every last one.

Then, he heard a loud bang outside.

"What the heck?!"

When he popped his head out, the backyard had turned into a battlefield made out of candy. It was Ryota's dream come true.

*Mayu's explanation time*
"Hi kids, Mayu here. See, the jellybeans that Ryota made are my special magic fruity-patootie jelly beans. Whenever kids eat them, the dreams and wishes in their hearts are displayed in front of them. Me and Yukirin will use this to our advantage.
Bye~ "

"This is...AWESOME!!!!!!"

His sister, Yuki, pulled him out of the battlegrounds and into her specially made safety area.

"Yuki-nee?"

"Ryota, you must help me."

"What's happening?"

"It's Take-nii. After he returned from college, he wanted to make us something sweet. But, there was an accident."

"What?"

*ROAR*

The two looked up a bit and saw a giant candy monster. He had cotton candy clothing, candy corn claws, and peppermint eyes and jellybean jewelry.

*Mayu's explanation time*
"Hi, it's Mayu-chan again. Again, only Ryota can see this. Takeru is actually wearing cardboard armor we made beforehand."

*ROAR*

"What do we do?"

"The only way to return him to normal is to retrieve the "King size Hershey's" chocolate bar from his neck."

She pointed at the chocolate bar, wrapped around a string necklace on him.

"Think you can do it?"

"Un! I can do it!"

Yuki held his shoulder.

"And, I'm here for you."

He nodded, then Yuki handed him a dart gun filled with gumballs. They started shooting the candy monster.

*Mayu here. He's not really getting hurt. Takeru-kun is very strong.*

The monster threw a large ball of cotton candy and broke the safe area.

The two started sprinting toward him, shooting him.

Yuki then took a candy cane branch and cut the monster, which made it only split in half.

Ryota tackled one and started munching on the head, while Yuki shot the other one down, dead.

"Yatta!"


"Yuki-nee~!!!"

The monster threw him off his back. Then, it threw a gumdrop at Yuki.

Like a grenade, it exploded into jelly and Yuki fell unconscious.

"Yuki-nee!"

Ryota ran over to the collapsed girl. Yuki's eyes opened slightly and she held her little brother's hand.

"No, nee-chan. Don't die. I promise, I won't call you Marimokkori ever again!"

"..Ryota... Please, be strong... Do it for me..."

Her eyes closed and she passed out, dead. Tears swelled up in Ryota's eyes.

"..Yuki... YUKI-NEE~~~~!!!!!"

*Mayu's explanation time*
"Yes... I'm sorry. Yuki is not dead. This is pure acting. She wanted to teach him a lesson for calling her that for so long, but..."
*Sees Ryota crying*
"But, it looks like I have to do something. "

"Please, don't cry child."

Suddenly, Ryota looked in the tree and saw Mayu, wearing a beautiful white dress and angel wings.

*Sniff* "M-Ma-Mayu-neesan?"

"Nope! I'm the guardian angel of your sister."

She flew down and landed on her feet. She patted the young boy's head and wiped away his tears.

"Please... *Sniff* Help Yuki."

"Okay. But, listen, I have to be kept a secret, so I can protect Yuki, so don't tell her, 'kay."

"Un. Okay."

Mayu knelt down and put a small candy in Yuki's mouth. Then, she flew off and disappeared.

A miracle came. Yuki's eyes opened.

"..Ryota? I'm okay?"

Ryota smiled, still crying, and hugged her.

"Nee-chan!!! I'll never tease you with that silly nickname again! I promise you, Yuki-nee-chan!!!"

*Mayu's explanation time*
"Hey, I used my magic to take the form of an angel in front of Ryota, but the candy was not magic. It was just a plain cherry flavored candy.
Again, YUKI DIDN'T DIE! "

Yuki smiled and hugged him back.

"Promise?"

"Yes!"

"Then, let's get him! I have an idea..."

She whispered something into Ryota's ear. He smiled and nodded.

They both ran around the monster to confuse him.

Then, once he was dizzy enough, Yuki shot the gumballs at the candy bar, unwrapping the paper.

Ryota jumped in font of her, allowing her to pick him up and throw him.

He tackled the monster and grabbed the bar with his mouth, eating it.

As they fell to the ground, everything turned back to normal.

"Are?"

"Hey, Ryota, what are you doing?"

"Nee-chan! We did it!"

Yuki passed him a peace sign, and he reflected back.

Takeru, in a heat of flames, became like a general and stood up straight and stiff.

"ATTENTION!!!"

Yuki and Ryota instantly reacted, and mimicked his pose.

"LISTEN UP, SOLDIERS!!! OUR CHEF HAS GOT A HOT BROILING POT OF HOT COCOA AND WE NEED TO EAT!!! DO YOU HEAR ME?!?!?!?!?!"

"YES SIR!!!"

Mayu pops her head out from the door.

"Calm down, you guys. It's almost ready, by the way."

"'YA HEAR THAT, SOLDIERS?! REPORT FOR DUTY!!!!"

"YES SIR!!!!"


And, well let's say it gets crazier from there...

Actually, the candy only takes people's dreams and projects them in real life in their mind. It doesn't exactly make them come true, but it has that feel.

But, yeah, I really wanna go to an AKB concert the next time their in America! (I wanna see Sayaka!!!! )

Sorry I haven't updated in a while (or maybe it's not been that long... )
I've been in the doldrums since I learned of Sayaka's graduation from the group...

Chapter 8-Black Science
*The idea for this chapter was given to me by miyumi!!! Thank you, MiyuMiyu~!*

Mayu was just finished cleaning up the shop, when the phone suddenly rang.

She floated over on her broomstick, standing due to high difference, and answered.

"Hello?"

"Hello? Mayu?"

"Ah, Yukirin! What's wrong?"

"I wanted you to know if you've been working on our school project yet? We've got all weekend to do it, but I wanted to check up to see if you started already... The teacher said we need to turn it in for the science fair on Sunday."

"Ah, that? No, it's a bit confusing... 'Ya wanna come over and help me?"

"Sure, I don't mind!"

"Great! We can start tomorrow!"

"Okay. Bye."

"Bye." Mayu hung up the phone and stretched her arms.

She hopped off the broom and headed to bed.

Then, she saw a picture beside her bed. It was a picture of her and her mom flying together in the sky.

"Mom, I hope you're watching. I'll make you proud."


Yuki rode her bike down the road over to the candy shop.

She screeched to a halt as she finally reached the door. Mayu saw her and floated over to open the door.

"No! Not like that!"

"Oh, right."

She jumped off the broom and opened the door to let Yuki in.

"You need to be more careful. I don't want people to know about you."

"I know! I promise, I'll be more careful."

"Say, why's the shop so empty? Are you not open on weekends?"

"It's just my lazy day today. I closed so that we could work without anyone disturbing us."

"Good choice."


They ran up the stairs and went into Mayu's room.

Yuki thought the room suited Mayu. it was very frilly and pink and she had polka dot pillows, a lacey canopy, even a stuffed alpaca.

"Cute?"

"Yeah..."

"Alright, what should we do?"

Mayu sat down at her small table and opened a few books.

"Our teacher said we needed to do SOME kind of project for science, so we need to try and think of something legitimate..."

Yuki sat down beside her and looked through the books.

"What if we made a model of something?"

"Like what?"

"Hmm..."

She flipped through some of the pages and found something interesting.

"How 'bout...a volcano?"

"Eh?"

"We can do something on Mount Fuji and make a model of it!"

"Sounds good! ..Sounds good... Manatsu~ no Sounds Good!"

"Haha, that's cute, Mayu!"

She made a peace sign and the two started to write down a few notes to create a rough draft.

Yuki was really concentrating and was speeding through her papers.

She wrote so fast, you could see the smoke form on her pencil.

Mayu was floating the books around to look at the notes and writing them down.

A few hours past and they were starting to work on the model for the volcano.

Mayu got so tired from her amount of magic use, she became terribly sleepy and was losing focus. Yuki could tell, because she was bobbing her head a bit and her books were slowly falling down from midair.

"Mayu!"

"Eh?" Mayu woke up a bit, and all the books fell to the ground.

"Mayu, stay awake for me, 'kay?"

"Un..."

Yuki sat beside her and ran through the books again. Whenever Yuki saw Mayu starting to doze off and fall asleep, she shook her shoulder a bit. However, she couldn't help but admire the cuteness of her sleepy face.


*Yawn*

"Hey, Mayu... See if you can create something with your candy to help with the model," Yuki said, rubbing her now sleepy eyes.

"..Ah! Un."

She took out a cup of jello and when she smacked it down on the table, it reformed into a jello volcano. she poked it a bit, and jelly came out from the top.

"Uwaa~ Mayu, sugoi!"

"Thanks! I can make this jello into ANYTHING! Even..." She smacked it again and the jello formed a jello Mayu.

Yuki giggled with delight as she saw the jelly-like Mayu replica jiggle.

"One more?"

*Nods*

She smacked it one more time and it turned into a blob. She cut it in half and smacked the two smaller blobs.

One turned into Sae, and one turned into Yuki.

She took out some red licorice from her drawer and it magically attached to their heads, arms, and legs.

She made the two puppets bow and start dancing to some waltz music Mayu was humming.

"Hahaha! Kawaii~! Nee, do you and me!"

She smacked one of the puppets and it was the Yuki puppet that turned into Mayu.

"Oops."

"Oh, don't worry. You and Sae-kun are pretty cute together."

"Really?"

"Yeah, totally."

The two giggled a bit and start playing more with the jello puppets, creating endless stories of endless possibilities.


Yeah, right! Hello?! Forgetting something?!?!?! Mayuyu!!! YUKIRIN!!!!


Yuki slowly woke up.

The notes and books were scattered across the floor and the jello puppets were no longer moving.

...Or there...

Yuki felt like she was held by someone. She was still very shakey from waking up and was a bit dreamy.

"Sae...?"

She turned and saw, not Sae, but Mayu clinging around her waist.

"Sae~..."

"Mayu?"

She sat up a bit and saw the time. They must have stayed up all night and slept until morning.

"Oh, god! Mayu! Mayu, wake up!"

"..No, Mama... I wanna sleep with Sae~... Sae...."

"Mayu, I'm not Sae OR your mom! Mayu, we're late!"

Mayu's eyes slowly opened and she woke up.

"Eh?"

"We don't have a project and we NEED to go!"

Mayu's eyes popped and she screamed. Yuki rubbed her ears a bit and went black.

"Mou~ Mayu! Don't yell so early in the morning, you..!"

Mayu was crying and running around the room.

Yuki went soft and started comforting Mayu again.

"Okay, let's think. We have the notes and draft on volcanoes, so... what do we have for a model?"

"Uhh... *Sniff* Nothing."

Yuki groaned and hit her head on the table.

Then, Mayu thought of something. She rushed downstairs, and after a lot of weird sounds and noises, Yuki ran down to check up on her.

She then suddenly heard animal sounds as it went on. A cat, a lion, even an elephant.

"What the hell is she DOING?!?!?!"

She ran down to the shop and saw random objects flying out of the closet.

"Mayu, what are you doing?!"

She came out, waving her hand around her to get rid of the dust.

"It's a bit old, but.. *Cough* *Cough* it might just work if you give me a few minutes."

Yuki looked in the closet and saw a small fountain she saw in fancy restraunts(the kind that have chocolate fondue fountains ) and she smiled brightly.

"It's perfect! Oh~, thank you, Mayu!" she yelled as she hugged Mayu tight.


After some time past, the machine was all fixed.

They put it onto a roller, tied it to Yuki's bike, and rode down to the school.

Once they got there, they set up their booth and put a cardboard cone around the fountain to make it look like a volcano.

Mayu plugged the machine in and the chocolate came put perfectly.

"Yatta!"

They high-fived and hugged each other.

"Mayu-chan! You're the best!"

A sudden glow came from Mayu's pocket. The start badge changed into a slightly brighter orange color.

"Ah! That much closer!"

"Why did it shine right now?"

"When things got rough and push came to shove, you trusted me and we pulled through. Even though we got knocked down, we got back up and went on. That's life. Twists and turns, 'ya never know where we end up."

Yuki smiled and hugged Mayu.

"'Ya just gotta keep going..."
