A/N: So the other day I had quite a vivid dream about the rokkies and this started happening. Originally I was gonna just write something pervy but I found out I can't really do pwp stuff and so the idea grew and yeah, expect like, four more parts to this. XD bye~

Ookii Hitomi, pt. I

"No."

"Reiiiiinaaaa~ Please?"

Sayumi had managed to corner the little yankii during her lunch break at work, much to Reina's surprise and extreme exasperation. The kitten didn't like surprises, and she enjoyed being coerced into something far less. Still, she was finding it hard to resist those pitiful eyes and that pleading pout, her resolve about the matter beginning to crack. She sighed, crossing her arms, trying once more to steel herself.

"Sayu, we already talked about this. The rules, remember? We weren't gonna make a big deal out of certain dates..."

"I think that this particular date is big enough to break the rules... And besides, Eri agrees with me."

It was Reina's turn to pout, a petulant note entering her voice.

"You know I hate it when you two double team me..."

Sayumi, for her part, had become fixated on the yankii's lips, her gaze darkening considerably. She gently pushed Reina back against the wall behind her, lowering her head.

"You shouldn't make that face unless you want me to kiss you."

The yankii smirked, mostly out of amusement that she'd regained some control over the situation. She arched an eyebrow slightly, lifting her head so that her lips just almost met those of the rabbit, but stopping short. She could feel Sayumi's breath catch, and her smirk grew wider.

"Who said I don't want you to kiss me?"

Permission granted, the older female claimed the younger's lips, letting out a soft moan as Reina's tongue eagerly brushed against her own. Unable to resist touching the girl who always managed to set her heart on fire, Sayumi ran her fingers lightly over the yankii's front, squeezing her perky breasts through the layers of cloth that separated them. That was as far as she dared take it, though, with Reina growling a warning into her mouth and breaking off the kiss with a loud smack. It wasn't that she was afraid they'd get caught, but if she started something here that they couldn't finish, the kitten would make her pay dearly for it later...

"So," Sayumi panted, moving her hands to settle comfortably on the other girl's waist, "Is that a yes, then?"

Reina rolled her eyes, but she wrapped her arms around the rabbit's neck, nuzzling against the older female's shoulder.

"You know I can't refuse you... Especially not if Eri's already said yes as well. ...And I do sort of already have an idea in mind for it."

Sayumi chuckled affectionately, resting her chin on top of the kitten's head and holding her close. Reina was nice whenever she decided to retract her claws, and was perfectly soft on the inside, much as she tried to protest otherwise; Sayumi knew that secretly the girl had been counting down the time until the day in question, if nothing else but to hold it in a special kind of reverence.

"Of course you do," the rabbit murmured, "You and all your secret plans..."

"Oi, as I recall, you enjoy my secret plans. Quite a bit, in fact, like that time Eri and I-"

Sayumi clamped a hand firmly over Reina's mouth, her cheeks flushing a deep crimson. Being reminded of something like that... while they were here in an office...

The kitten took none too kindly to being silenced, however, and the rabbit yelped in disgust when she felt something warm and wet brush against her hand, retracting as if she'd been bitten by a snake. Reina stifled a giggle, half-snorting instead and settling for an amused smirk.

"After all the places my tongue has been and you react like that..."

Having the decency to at least pretend to appear scandalized, Sayumi blushed again, making a face at the younger girl.

"Anywa-aaa-y... I'll let you enjoy the rest of your break, I still have to go finish shopping before I go home and make sure everything's arranged for tomorrow night."

Reina put her hands on her hips, cocking her head to the side as she shot the rabbit another petulant look.

"Don't I get a goodbye kiss?"

"Do you deserve one?" Sayumi questioned, though the kitten would get what she wanted in the end. It was a game the older female didn't mind losing, time and time again. Reina's face fell slightly, the girl obviously not expecting to be rejected, but before she could dwell on it too long, the rabbit leaned down to plant a sweet, chaste kiss on her lips, silencing any and all protests. When Sayumi pulled away, Reina was smiling gently, a dazed look on her face.

"There. Now I have to go. Behave yourself."

"Never."

Crazy girl. But it had been an empty sort of scolding; asking Reina to behave was like trying to stop a tornado with bare hands. A pointless endeavor. Sayumi grinned.

"I love you."

"I know."

And with that they parted ways. To anyone else it may have sounded unaffectionate, but Sayumi understood. The kitten was not one to demonstrate her feelings in public, hence why she'd pulled the rabbit into the side hallway as soon as she saw her. Rarer still did the girl admit her feelings out loud, privately or not. In fact, Sayumi could count on her hands the number of times Reina had said "I love you," to either herself or Eri in the time she had known her. But it didn't matter. She'd come to see it as Reina saying the same thing, just with two words instead of three.

A buzz caught the rabbit's attention as she was descending the stairs and she dug in her purse for her phone, flipping it open to see that she had a new text message. As her eyes read the name of the sender, she smiled.

<<Hah, good work, babe. I see we're on for tomorrow now? ;)>>
~Eririn

<<How did you know? I literally just left her like five seconds ago.>>
~Sayumin

<<She sent me one of her 'angry' texts, accused me of being an evil alien mastermind, the usual.>>
~Eririn

Oh Reina. Sayumi grinned, shaking her head as she decided to call the girl she was texting instead.

"Alien, maybe... But you're not exactly the villainous type." She started after Eri picked up, continuing on her way out of the building. "But anyway, you're right, I managed to convince her."

"Ah~ I'm jealous that you got to see each other during the day, even if it was my idea..."

Sayumi almost thought she could hear Eri pouting through the whine in her tone.

"Feeling left out? Should I come and visit you too?" She teased, "I'm on my way to the store but I could swing by."

"I wish, but my break's almost over. I'll just have to suck it up until tonight I suppose."

The rabbit rolled her eyes at the turtle's dramatic tone, but the smile never left her face. She was happy; getting to see and hear both of her girls during the middle of the day was a rare treat after all.

"You'll live. I'll buy you some chocolate or something when I'm out."

"Reason #78 why I love you."

"Eh, you have a list?"

The girl on the other side of the line chuckled.

"Of course, I have lists for both of you. They're getting pretty extensive, too..."

"Whose is longer?" It was teasing, and Sayumi didn't really care if Reina outclassed her in everything in Eri's heart, as long as she still had a place there. The time when she felt she was competing with the kitten had passed, though she still enjoyed the playful bickering every now and then. Eri's voice, however, grew serious.

"You know I love you both. It's different... But still the same, you know?"

"I know, I was only kidding." But it still warmed her on the inside to hear the words, anyway. "I love you too. But I should probably let you go, huh?"

"Unfortunately... I'll see you when I get home. Bye~"

Sayumi echoed her goodbye before hanging up, a fresh smile on her face as she slipped her phone back into her purse. She walked happily out into the sunshine, breathing in cool air and resisting the urge to skip, both of her girlfriends on her mind.

Today was a good day.

Ookii Hitomi, pt. II

<<Shabondama>>

"Okay! Cut!"

Every muscle in her body cried out in pain as Sayumi flopped backwards onto her rear, and she couldn't help but let out a groan, glad that the whole ordeal was over. Never mind that she'd just sat down in about six inches of water; it didn't really matter considering she was already completely soaked, and besides the coolness felt good in contrast to the baking hot studio.

Eri had collapsed in a similar fashion beside her, panting heavily and all but leaning against her for support. The rabbit whimpered out some weak words of comfort before lifting her head slightly to glance around at the others.

The elder members seemed tired as well, but unlike her and her companion, most of them had managed to already stagger back towards the dry part of the studio where towels and fresh sets of clothes awaited them. Even Reina was already on her feet, Makoto checking up on her like a good senpai, even if she did mix her up with Eri from time to time.

Seeing their fellow rokkie made her pretty determined not to fall behind as well, and Sayumi pushed herself to her feet despite her body's protests. She reached down to help Eri, wobbling dangerously when the turtle stumbled, but eventually the two of them began to limp towards Reina, who was currently chattering away at one of the cameras.

Sayumi couldn't hear what she was saying, but it was soon over anyway, and she and Eri both mumbled a few sentences as well before following after the youngest rokkie into the dressing room.

Though several of the elder members had already changed and cleared out, the room was still a bit tight; the gokkies shared a corner by themselves, while Rika, Yossi, and Miki had lingered behind to talk with Kaori. Reina was in one of the unoccupied corners, attempting to peel off her heavy red jacket. She smiled slightly as Sayumi and Eri approached, though the rabbit noticed that away from the cameras and the other members the girl was letting her exhaustion show.

"...Some debut, huh?"

Eri slumped into the chair beside Reina, completely spent.

"I won't forget it any time soon..."

"That training camp doesn't seem nearly as bad as it did before," Sayumi chimed in quietly, burying her face into the soft towel she'd been handed moments earlier. "But it was kind of fun, dancing in the water like that. Even if I'll feel this for days..."

They chatted, the three of them together, laughing and smiling, and the rabbit decided right then and there that she wanted things to be like this forever.

<<Iroppoi Jirettai>>

"The things she says to me sometimes, can you believe it?! And they say I'm the one with a sharp tongue- are you even listening to me, Eri?"

She wasn't, at least, not completely. The not-quite seventeen-year-old's mind and eyes were elsewhere; specifically, Reina was busy filming her close-up shots and lately Eri found herself wondering things like how to get the girl to look at her that way, or how soft her lips might taste.

"What exactly did Reina say to you, Sayu?" She asked, still focused on the monitor in front of her. The rabbit gritted her teeth.

"She actually scolded me about how I've been treating Koharu-chan lately. She said--and I quote--'Though I don't know why you were chosen to be her mentor, that is the case, so you should at least try to take it seriously.'" Sayumi finished in a clipped, half-assed imitation of Reina's voice, crossing her arms in front of her chest.

"Ah..." The reply she got was not at all satisfying, and Sayumi followed Eri's gaze, her patience wearing thin. She focused darkly on the monitor for a moment, several different emotions running through her head, jealousy the most prominent one. And then, though she was sure Eri hadn't even heard her, the turtle girl spoke.

"Are you mad because she scolded you? Or are you mad because she pointed out the truth to you?" Eri asked calmly, looking up at her fellow rokkie for the first time and meeting her gaze, "Because... Well, maybe it isn't Reina's place to tell you what to do, but it's really not a secret that you haven't been treating the new kid right."

Sayumi deflated slightly, not completely sure what to say. She searched for some excuse, knowing it was lame and stupid the moment it slipped past her tongue.

"Miki doesn't like her either..."

"Since when is life about 'What Would Miki Do'?" The eldest shuddered as she said that, obviously remembering some terrifying backstage memories. Eri always walked sort of funny whenever the subleader was around. "...and if it were, that's a poor excuse because she's still doing her job as a leader and a senpai with Koharu. Even if she yells at her, at least she's paying attention."

Sayumi couldn't argue that, much as she wanted to, and yet anger bubbled up inside of her.

Stupid Miki. Stupid Koharu. ...Stupid Reina!

Her head snapped up immediately when the yankii herself wandered over to them, having finished her shooting. Eri, for her part, had already risen and moved to cheerfully greet the girl, touching her hands and quietly praising her work, all of which Reina took in with a slightly amused look. Sayumi clenched her fists; that really was the last straw for her, honestly. It was obvious that the turtle was seeing the kitten in a different light, but Reina seemed to think it was a joke, and the bunny wouldn't have that. She wasn't quite sure herself of what she felt for Eri, but was certain the girl was her best friend at least, and no one was going to toy with her emotions.

When Eri left them to do her own shoot, Sayumi approached Reina intending to give her a piece of her mind, but the kitten spoke first, halting the other girl in her tracks with a piercing look.

"If you're still pissed about what I said earlier, you really need to get over it. I didn't say it to insult you, so it's not my fault if you're choosing to take it like that."

"Explain to me the real reason, then," Sayumi spat back irritably, the last of her patience dissolving, causing Reina to raise an eyebrow at her. It had been a while since she'd completely dropped the cutesy act, since it was something she tended to do even when the cameras weren't rolling. But lately it was like there was nothing but friction between her and the youngest rokkie, and she was growing weary of trading barbs with the girl every time they encountered each other.

"...I just think you're a better senpai than you've been acting lately... So it's kind of a waste, when I see you ignoring Koharu-chan instead of taking responsibility." Reina replied slowly, carefully, as if she was exposing something about herself by airing her thoughts out loud, "You're actually really good at taking care of people, you know? Seeing what they need and being there for them and all... Like with Eri... Or with me, though maybe not lately, but that's not your fault."

Was that guilt in her voice? Could it be that Reina actually noticed she'd been pulling away? Sayumi's anger was slowly ebbing away, giving way to curiosity. It wasn't often that the kitten shared more serious thoughts with her, or anyone for that matter, and she waited, wanting to hear everything the girl had to say.

"It just... Makes me mad when people have potential and they don't do anything with it. Especially when that person is someone I care about."

"Reina..." Sayumi felt her stomach do a weird sort of flipflop, realizing that this was the first time in a while that the girl had complimented her, even if it was indirectly. And it had been much longer since the last time Reina admitted she cared...

The kitten seemed to grow skittish at Sayumi's voice, however, shifting uncomfortably as though she might flee, and so the rabbit blurted out the first thing that came to mind.

"Eri... likes you, you know... like, that way..."

If things weren't already awkward before, they certainly were now. Reina hugged her arms anxiously.

"I know."

That wasn't the way a malicious tease was supposed to sound. Maybe... Reina liked Eri back just the same? Sayumi's stomach twisted again, but for a different reason this time, the emotions too complicated for her teenage mind to register separately. But before she could speak again, Eri was with them, and Reina slipped back behind her mask to chat quietly with the turtle, that vulnerable girl she'd caught a glimpse of completely vanishing.

Eri shot Sayumi a questioning look above Reina's head, but the bunny only smiled and walked towards the set, burying her emotions in order to do her job.

<<Mikan>>

It wasn't the first time she'd stayed over at her girlfriend's apartment after a recording session; hell, it wasn't her first time to stay over, period. But waking up in her bed, comfortably naked, was definitely a new thing. Not that Sayumi was complaining at all; memories of the previous night flickered back to her as she stretched and tried to rouse herself, and she certainly made no attempt to stop the smile that crept onto her lips.

She lazily cracked open an eye, greeted with the sight of Eri sleeping peacefully beside her, all curled up with a sheet tangled haphazardly about her legs. The bunny's smile widened, and she moved to brush a stray bit of hair from the other girl's face before placing a gentle kiss on her cheek.

As much as she wanted to stay in bed all morning--she honestly thought watching Eri sleep could easily become her new favorite pastime--hunger soon drove her out of it, and she rose, picking her nightshirt up off the floor and slipping into it as she wandered into the kitchen.

As expected, it was not well stocked. Cute as she was, Eri lived quite like a bachelor, never picking up after herself and only taking care of herself when reminded to. Sayumi managed to find a box of cereal anyway, and sat on the counter as she idly munched on a handful or two, taking the opportunity to process her thoughts.

She was happy. There was no mistaking it. Eri was a good girlfriend, and things in Morning Musume were great, what with the nine of them steadily becoming a cohesive performing machine. Sayumi didn't think that anyone else in her position would have wished for much more in life.

And yet, even with all of the above being true, she couldn't help but feel she was missing a piece of the puzzle. At first, she'd felt guilty for even entertaining the thoughts, as if they made her selfish and ungrateful, or worse, unfaithful. But as her relationship with Eri had continued, she realized what it was she wanted.

Reina danced constantly through her mind; even now as she surveyed the mess in the kitchen she couldn't help but think with faint amusement that it would drive the girl crazy. But, it wasn't that she replaced Eri with Reina in her head, rather, she simply kept imagining the girl there with them in every scenario. Sayumi didn't want to be with Reina instead of Eri. She wanted to be with Reina and Eri.

It was something she now accepted calmly every time it came to mind; whether it was strange or different didn't really matter to her anymore, as she couldn't deny the truth. The problem was, aside from the fact the kitten was all but married to her job as of late, was she had yet to tell Eri how she felt.

As if on cue, the turtle padded sleepily into the kitchen, hair sticking up in places and the t-shirt and shorts she'd quickly thrown on just as disheveled. Sayumi smiled fondly and set the cereal box aside as Eri stumbled towards her, eyes still closed as she pushed her head into the bunny's stomach, wrapping her arms around the younger girl's waist.

"Mrgnhgh..."

Sayumi laughed, gently smoothing out her girlfriend's hair with her fingers.

"Good morning to you, too."

They stayed like that for a moment, because last night had rendered a great deal of words unnecessary, the closeness more than enough to communicate everything they needed to say. Everything, except-

"You were thinking about something when I came in," Eri mumbled in between a yawn, blinking bleary-eyed up at the bunny.

"I was," Sayumi confirmed quietly, unsure of how to broach the subject. If she said nothing, Eri might be hurt, not to mention suspicious. The truth, however...

"I was... thinking about Reina." She stated delicately, closing her eyes and wincing as she waited for the turtle to react. Much to her surprise, she felt gentle lips against her own as Eri leaned up to kiss her, and when they parted, she blinked at the older girl in confusion.

"I guessed as much. I've seen the way you look at her lately, or rather, how you've always looked at her when you think no one sees you."

Sayumi blushed, mind racing for a way to explain, but Eri placed a finger on her lips, effectively stilling her. The turtle was smiling.

"I know how you feel. I've felt the same way for a long time... Probably longer than you have. I was just waiting for you to accept it on your own terms."

The bunny felt her heart swell up with gratitude and love, relief washing over her as she pulled the girl in for another kiss. Eri chuckled against her mouth, happy to return the favor.

"Now... Let's figure out how to get our girl, ne?"

<<Present Day>>

Sayumi swatted at the hands wandering around her waist for about the twenty time that evening, using all of her willpower to ignore the lips and teeth that kept grazing against her neck. She was a woman on a mission, and would not be swayed, at least not so soon.

"Reina. Get out of here. I'm trying to make dinner."

"I don't care." The response was growled into her ear, and a small hand attempted to slip beneath the fabric of her jeans. Sayumi swiftly grabbed it before it could, however, and dealt her cat-like lover another smack. She finally spun to face the girl, meeting Reina's playful glare with one of her own.

"You will care in about twenty minutes when your stomach starts growling again and there's no food on the table. And if you have your way with me now I promise you I'll be much less inclined to do anything about it by then."

The gears in the wonky-eyed female's head began to turn as she attempted to decide between fun and food. Eventually her stomach won out, but she would never admit defeat.

"Fine," Reina replied airily, turning to saunter out of the room, "But only because this gives Reina more time to plot out what she'll do."

Sayumi shook her head, turning back to the task at hand. She'd learned that the best way to deal with Reina was to make every thing seem like it had been her idea in the first place. The bunny didn't mind, and the sound of the TV flickering to life told her that she'd won a few rare moments of peace and quiet. At least, until she heard the patter of footsteps come up behind her again. She let out a long suffering sigh.

"Reina, seriously, if you don't- mmph!" Sayumi found herself being spun around and pulled into an embrace and a rather fierce kiss, though the lips she melted against were definitely not Reina's. Coherent thought slipped away, and she relaxed into the arms of her 'attacker'.

"Eri..." She breathed when the turtle finally pulled away, a fanged grin on her face, "You're home early."

The older girl snuggled happily into her, breathing in the mixed scents of perfume and home cooking, the weariness of the daily grind immediately beginning to fade.

"Yep. And just in time, it seems."

Sayumi caught the turtle peering hungrily at what was on the cutting board, and before Eri could snatch herself a snack, she smirked and pushed the girl away.

"Not you too... It's not finished yet, so I'm gonna banish you from the kitchen too." Sayumi brandished the knife as a warning, and Eri put her hands up, backing off, the grin never leaving her face. "However, there is some chocolate in the cupboard, as promised. I only just managed to keep Reina from getting at it."

The turtle went about locating said treat like a child, making quiet happy noises when she found it. She obediently left the kitchen, satisfied, and Sayumi smirked when she heard a shriek sound from the living room moments later. Reina was just too easy to scare when she was engrossed in one of her trashy TV dramas after all.

Sayumi found the two of them cuddling on the couch minutes later, having left the water to boil, and she leaned comfortably against the doorframe to take in the scene. Eri's head was nestled against the armrest, the kitten situated pleasantly on top of her, attention on the screen. Every minute or so Reina would tilt her head up, a pleading look in her eyes, the cue for Eri to feed her bites of the chocolate.

"You're the reason she's spoiled rotten, you know." Sayumi chastised, not at all serious, a light smile on her face as Eri let her head roll back so she could watch the rabbit.

"As if it's any different from the way Reina spoils you." Eri responded, defiantly giving the kitten another piece of her treat.

"Or the way you spoil Eri." Reina chimed in, looking rather pleased with herself, regardless of what anyone thought.

Sayumi declined to answer, content to stand there and watch them until she had to return to the kitchen to check up on the night's meal. I'm probably the luckiest person in the world, she mused to herself as she carefully stirred the ingredients into the pot of water.

That's why... I'm going to try and make tomorrow perfect for them. A wonderful anniversary...

And it would be.

@rndy: Haha it's hard enough making a relationship between two people work, let alone three, though the rokkies seem to balance each other out enough. And besides I just wanted to write something that was rot-your-teeth sweet XD

@kurosawa87: Thanks! No more waiting for the meal part, here it is.  :)

@rokun: hahaha yeahhh I know exactly what part you're waiting for~ (Though lets be honest here, I think every other commenter/reader is thinking the same thing bahaha).

The wifi connection has been a bitch today and I'm currently in the middle of packing up my stuff to return to the states and for one last trip into London this weekend. However, we are right on schedule, and this part marks the middle of this fluffy 6ki short. Might be my last update of anything for perhaps a week or so, do enjoy!

Ookii Hitomi, pt. III

"Yes, Sayu, I promise, everything is all set up for you tonight," Risa mumbled quietly into her phone, attempting, and failing to stifle a giant yawn. She felt eyes on her, and glanced sideways at Ai, who was watching her with a raised eyebrow and the faintest hint of amusement on her lips. Risa rolled her eyes.

"Look, it's gonna be the most romantic damned dinner you've ever had in your life, stop worrying about it. Kame and Tanakacchi love the mess out of you--for reasons I don't understand, maybe, but they do- ow!"

A sharp sting to the side of her head made her jump, and as she reacted, Ai had rolled over in the bed and swiped the phone from her hands in one fluid motion. Risa pouted, rubbing at where her lover had flicked her, glowering at the older woman.

"What she means," Ai began, her tone soothing in an attempt to placate the whiny bunny on the other end, "...is that you have no reason to worry, Sayu. Now focus on work, enjoy your day, and have a lovely anniversary. Yeah. You're welcome. Talk to you later~"

The ex-leader snapped the phone shut after that, tossing it carelessly towards the foot of the bed. Risa was still pouting.

"How annoying... Calling us so early..."

Ai pulled the younger woman into her arms, knowing she was just grumpy for being scolded and for their personal time being interrupted. As if to prove her point, the bean sighed and snuggled into her, closing her eyes as if she intended to fall back asleep. Ai, on the other hand, was the type to stay awake as soon as she'd opened her eyes, and lost herself to her musings, gently threading her fingers through Risa's hair.

"I'm actually sort of surprised Reina hasn't called us too..." She murmured. The bean snorted against her chest.

"I'm not. Whatever Tanakacchi's plans are, I'll bet you anything they involve the bedroom, and she doesn't exactly need our help for that..."

Ai grunted some sort of agreement, a light flush dotting her cheeks as she brought to mind one of the stories Sayu had shared with her about the trio's... activities. The bunny hadn't told her everything, of course, but oblivious as she was, she was still perfectly capable of filling in the blanks as far as that was concerned.

She steered her mind elsewhere, smiling slightly when she remembered what Eri's gift to the others would be. Although Reina and Sayumi would certainly enjoy it, it was just as exciting for her and Risa as well; she could not remember the last time the nine of them had all been together in the same place. She was surprised when she heard that even the pandas would be there, but Eri had apparently been planning her part of the gift for months now.

Either way, the idea that her little extended family would be reunited tonight made her very happy indeed.

"What are you thinking about?" The bean mumbled against her chest, somehow managing to sense Ai's mood even with her eyes closed. Never ceased to amaze her.

"I dunno, it's weird but, sometimes I feel sort of like a proud father or something."

Risa laughed, in that quiet gentle way she reserved for Ai that still made the monkey's heart do little flipflops beneath her ribcage. Not that she would ever admit that out loud...

"Well, Junko did say you were like papa once... It's nice to know the kids are all alright, hm?" She quipped, placing a light kiss against the older woman's collarbone.

Ai smiled. Indeed it was.

----------

Sayumi was glad she'd chosen to go with the waterproof mascara tonight, because she knew at some point during the evening she'd be reduced to a quivering, emotional mess and if that was the case she was gonna at least look good doing it. Of course, the night was young yet, so currently all she had to tangle with were the butterflies in her stomach as they made their way to dinner.

The three had unanimously decided on hiring a driver for the night, since each girl's gift involved them going different places; being that it was such a special occasion, separation, even just for a car ride, was out of the question. With Reina pressed tightly into her left side, looking a bit paler than usual, the bunny couldn't help but wonder if the kitten was regretting said decision.

"It really would be alright if you sat up front..." Eri was saying to her right, gently caressing the back of Reina's neck with the hand she'd slung comfortably about Sayumi's shoulders.

"I'll be fine when it's dark out." Reina muttered in response, gritting her teeth as another wave of nausea passed through her. Sayumi simply let the kitten lean against her, reaching to angle one of the A/C vents towards the younger girl's face in the hopes the cool air would help.

"Not much longer now," She stated reassuringly, though she wasn't actually completely sure about that. Where they were headed was a bit secluded, and she'd actually only seen it before in pictures. But she trusted Ai and Risa, and... had also paid them well.

She focused her attention on the girls on either side of her, realizing suddenly that this was one of those rare occasions that Reina had allowed her to take the middle, a position the kitten took for herself nine times out of ten. She was sure the change up was deliberate on the younger girl's part, and she felt a fresh surge of affection for her, gently kissing the top of Reina's head.

The girl was, as always, wearing the most coordinated outfit out of the three of them; she was clad in a strapless electric blue dress that cut off around mid-thigh, toned down significantly by the short black jacket she wore on top. For once the kitten had opted for a slender pair of heels rather than boots and much to her (and she knew Eri's as well) delight, Reina's hair was down.

By contrast, Eri was more reserved in her style, and was wearing a simple, but elegantly cut  off-white dress. A silver belt about her waist drew Sayumi's attention to her slender curves, and the turtle caught her staring, blushing slightly but giving her a warm smile in return. Eri was also wearing matching silver heels and bracelets, but the bunny took little notice of these as she leaned in for a quick kiss.

As for herself, Sayumi was decked out in varying shades of pink, off-set by a dark skirt and knee-high boots, her black hair framing her face in waves. She mused that both of her lovers must have rubbed off on her clothing choices as of late, but supposed it was a good thing; she remembered an instance where Reina had commented soon after meeting her that she didn't think the older girl could dress a doll properly, let alone herself. Of course, becoming an idol had helped too, but from time to time she still caught her cat-eyed girlfriend giving her scrutinizing looks.

When their driver turned off the beaten path, Eri sat up a bit, curious.

"Ne, Sayu, where are we going? I thought we were gonna have dinner?"

Reina had also lifted her head to glance out the window, and Sayumi smiled slightly, keeping her mouth shut. There wasn't a reason for her to answer, for the place in question had finally come into view, and she couldn't help but stare and be just as amazed as the other two by what she saw.

I owe Gaki-san and Aichan big time for this...

The driver pulled up off the edge of the road next to a cluster of trees, arranged in a manner that appeared as though some had purposely been planted and cleared away, creating a natural wall to block out passing cars. They were close enough having stopped, however, to see through the trees, and that was the breathtaking part; lanterns had been strung up between the trees, resulting in a warm and beautiful glow even now as the sun had not quite dipped below the horizon. There was a table set up there for three as well, nestled comfortably in the man-made clearing, and Sayumi grinned slightly as Reina backed up against her when she realized just who was approaching their car.

"How sneaky, Sayu... Involving our friends in on this." Reina stated as the door was opened for her, and a hand extended to help her out of the car, belonging to one rather dashing Takahashi Ai. "I suppose that's how you managed to keep it all a secret."

"They're even wearing suits!" Eri exclaimed as she exited the other side of the vehicle, helped out in a similar fashion by Risa and taking a moment to survey her friend. The bunny just continued to grin, taking Ai's hand and sliding out after Reina, mouthing a silent thank you to her ex-leader. As the two led them towards the table, Sayumi couldn't help but be proud of her gift; a secluded dinner outside on a nice night away from prying eyes was much better than being stuck in a private room in a crowded restaurant.

"Why Gaki-san and Aichan, though?" Eri had questioned when the three were finally seated and their "waiters" started to pour wine and set out the meal.

"Well, I didn't want us to feel like we had to hide anything tonight... So I decided, better someone we knew than a stranger who might decide we could be tabloid material." Sayumi replied, taking a sip of her drink as Risa finished filling it, "And besides, they're not bad to look at like this~"

The remark earned something of a jealous grumble from Reina and a giggle from Eri, the latter amused by the gentlemanly flourish Ai was imposing on all of her movements. Risa gave the kitten a reassuring pat on the head.

"We're actually leaving now, Tanakacchi, Sayu only asked us to set up and look good. The rest of the time here is yours."

Ai joined her lover shortly and the two gave a theatrical bow--eliciting more laughter from Eri--before they turned and left, walking off towards their own car. Sayumi hadn't really understood their reasoning for needing to leave so early, but Ai had been specific that they couldn't stay long and she supposed it was better this way, their driver the only other person around for miles.

"It would have been fun to boss them around for a while... Pity." Reina stated before starting in on her food, focusing on the sunset in between bites. Eri's lips twitched slightly, but she managed to maintain a neutral enough expression so that neither of her girlfriends noticed. Between the three she was the worst at keeping secrets; at least, it was easiest for the other two to weasel anything out of her that they pleased.

"This is really nice, Sayu." The turtle stated sincerely, reaching across the table to take the bunny's hand in her own, giving it a gentle squeeze when the girl smiled.

"You know... I don't actually remember the last time we've actually sat down to eat like this."

"It's been a while," Reina murmured, leaning forward to feed Sayumi a bite from her plate. Eri smiled.

"I still think about the first time we had a meal together--the training camp, remember?"

"We try not to." The kitten and bunny replied simultaneously, both wearing somewhat pained expressions. Their response didn't diminish Eri's mood, however, and she continued.

"I won't ever forget it. The bad parts are pretty overshadowed by all the good for me, anyway. Sometimes... Well, this is kind of silly, but I've always wondered... Did either of you know then?"

"Know what?" The kitten asked, feeling warm from the wine and a little less than completely there. Sayumi noticed and moved the bottle away from her, ignoring the younger girl's whine of protest.

"I didn't," She answered thoughtfully, "I think my first impressions of both of you weren't exactly kind... And you figured out how you felt long before I did, Eri."

"True. Reina was the one that needed convincing."

The turtle grinned across the table at the youngest, who shot her a particularly nasty look as she stuck out her tongue, likely remembering the events of said encounter.

"Shut up."

"Hey, we managed to kill several birds with one stone that day. We all finally confessed to each other and... then... well, honestly, I think how it happened was much easier than telling the other members individually."

Reina glared.

"Considering we were halfway to getting it on in the dressing room... And speak for yourself, Aika didn't talk to me for months after that..."

"Everything worked out in the end, though." Eri attempted, leaning over to kiss the girl on the cheek, managing to elicit a sweet smile from her.

"Besides, I think we made it up to you pretty well that night." Sayumi finished, a devilish smile on her face. Said smile faltered when the kitten turned to look at her, a familiar spark in her eyes. It was a look she'd seen many times, the kind that told her she would be paying for her words later on.

Not that she minded too much.

"Hey guys, look."

Eri brought their attention to the sun, now setting in a haze of orange, the sky a brilliant burst of pink and purple in contrast. Sayumi watched it quietly for a moment, tears stinging the corners of her eyes as the emotion she had prepared for earlier was starting to catch up with her. She reached for her glass, raising it slightly and catching the attention of the other two.

"Ten years ago today, we met." She started, her girlfriends smiling in response. They had chosen the day for their "official" anniversary soon after Reina had joined them, deciding it was less confusing and more significant to all three of them. "Some people never even meet their soulmates in life. But I got lucky enough not only to have two, but I get to be with them every day, hopefully for the rest of my life."

Eri's thumb tenderly brushed against her knuckles and she reached for Reina's hand with her free one after the kitten let out a quiet sniffle, doing a poor job of trying to hide it.

"Happy anniversary." She concluded softly, her lovers repeating the phrase back as they toasted the occasion. The girls stayed like that for a while, content to trade kisses and sweet words until the sun disappeared from view.

Gah, so sweet~! I so can't wait for Eri's surprise, getting the gang back together is going to be awesome. Lols at reminiscing about Reina's joining the fun.

And Mama and Papa Takagaki make their appearance as well, so double happy!

Legs hurt + restlessness means I'm not sleeping so I decided to work on this chapter until I got tired. So I ended up finishing it. XD Only one part left to go~ Enjoy.

Ookii Hitomi, pt. IV

As she hung streamers from one corner of the living room to the next, Mitsui Aika thought to herself that really the best anniversary gift the three girls could have got for themselves was perhaps a bigger apartment. It was certainly meant for only one person, a fact she was increasingly aware of every time either Jun or Lin passed by the stepladder, nearly knocking her off her perch. Still, she supposed the rokkies probably actually preferred the coziness of their little home, given that they tended not to let much space come between them.

Disgustingly sweet.

She carefully descended to survey her handiwork, and once satisfied, joined the pandas in the kitchen. They had been charged with the decorating and the snacks for this surprise party, as Ai and Risa were busy dealing with Sayumi's gift, and Koharu likely wouldn't make it until after everything started. Though it was intended for the rokkies, she was extremely happy to be reunited with her own generation, and even more excited still for everyone else to arrive.

Aika leaned against the counter, watching as Linlin mixed the icing for the cake, every now and then leaning forward to mimic Junjun who was stealing bits of it straight out of the bowl. It was nice being around them again, picking up as if there had never been any graduations or time between the last time they'd seen each other.

"I hope this turns out well, it's been a while since I've made cake," Lin mused, thrusting the spoon she had been stirring with in to Jun's hands in an attempt to distract her while she spread the icing out over the cake.

"I'm sure it will be," Aika reassured, digging around in the cabinets for another knife before moving to help the Chinese girl, "I mean, that cake you made us in Hawaii was amazing."

"That's because I had help from Tanaka-san and Michishige-san," Lin replied, smiling brightly, "And we didn't bake the actual cake itself, it was there when we started the filming."

"Still." The younger panda just kept smiling, and it was so infectious that Aika smiled too. The two of them began decorating the top of the cake with fruit and colored icing when Jun got bored and began to rummage through the rokkies' fridge. Aika very nearly misspelled the word she was on when the eldest of the three suddenly let out a victory whoop, thrusting her yellow prize into the air.

"Banana!"

Aika and Linlin exchanged a glance, the younger girl rolling her eyes.

"I guess some things never change..."

Some things had, though. For one, she could tell that both of the pandas had gained their accents back to a more noticeable degree, reminding her of when they first joined the group all those years ago. Even when Aika had picked the duo up at the airport, their conversation stalled at points as either one of the older girls attempted to find the right words; she assumed that was just a part of returning home, but was glad to note that the longer they talked the more things returned to normal. And then there were all the comments on how much Aika had grown, the comments that made her cringe and want to hide like: "Well, you'll be a woman now soon, ne?" and "Hard to believe it's only been a little over two years, where's that spoiled little kid we knew?"

"I'm not an adult just yet," Aika whined slightly, pouting as the elder hachikis continued to tease her.

"Fighting adulthood to the bitter end, eh, Wan-chan?" Ai's voice floated in from the other room, causing the trio to jump slightly, not a one of them aware that the door had opened. The ex-leader poked her head into the kitchen with a grin. "Following in your aneki's footsteps, maybe?"

"Aichan!"

Aika bounded towards the older woman, crashing into her and causing Ai to chuckle good-naturedly. They shared a tight hug, the younger letting out a groan as she felt her hair being ruffled and pushing away the other in order to fuss over it. Risa came in behind them, shutting the door with her foot as she carried the drinks in her arms.

"Oi, careful," She scolded, directing her voice at Aika, "Watch your ankle, okay?" And then with a mumble, she added, "Why doesn't anyone ever greet me like that?"

"Nii-ga-ki-sannnn~" Aika and Ai dove out of the way as the pandas made sure the bean wasn't neglected, and they happily squished her between themselves.

Ignoring her lover's half-hearted protests, Ai moved into the less crowded living room, Aika trailing along behind her.

"So will they be here soon?" The younger girl asked, eyeing her former leader with interest as the woman shed her jacket and sank down onto the couch.

"Should be, Risa and I left them fairly early so we could make it home to change and grab the drinks before heading here. So someone should probably man the window now I guess."

"I'll do it~" Jun chirped from the hallway, following some shriek from Risa about the girl trying to kiss her. Moments later, a slightly ruffled looking bean entered the living room, her exasperation clearly outweighed by happiness. She joined Ai on the couch, glancing about at the recently decorated room.

"You guys have done a good job. Kame will be happy. Though I'm mostly looking forward to the other two's reactions... Assuming she managed to keep it secret from them."

Aika grinned, leaning against the wall.

"It's exciting, either way. Being able to be here for them and being all together again."

Both of her seniors nodded their agreement, and as she waited there, listening to them chat quietly about different things, she couldn't help but remember what she'd thought when she first heard about the relationship. Or rather, what she thought when she stumbled upon it. It was hard for her to process at first, seeing her beloved senpais in such a compromising position--and she may have had a little bit of a crush on Reina at the time. But when she had had time to get over her shock, she realized that they made sense together, and now she couldn't imagine them apart.

"Hey, someone hit the lights! I think they're here!"

----------

"Honestly, I think you'd forget to eat if we weren't here to take care of you, Eri~"

"Yeah, forgetting to bring your own anniversary gift..."

"Aw, come on, I was nervous..."

Of course, that wasn't it at all, Eri was actually luring her two girlfriends right into the gift itself, but she took their teasing amiably nonetheless. She slowly led them up towards their apartment, delaying as much as she thought seemed natural in order to buy her  co-conspirators some time. Luckily, neither Reina or Sayumi seemed to be suspicious or in much of a hurry, their playful touches and kisses slowing the trio down more than Eri's deliberate steps.

When they finally made it to the door, she let Sayumi enter first, strategically placing herself behind Reina in case she got too startled and bolted... or to stop her from hitting anyone. The yankii tended to be a bit... slappy when surprised.

"Eh? I thought for sure we left the lights on when we left..."

The bunny moved into the living room to flip the switch, mouth forming a perfect o when the lights revealed the "intruders" waiting within.

"Surprise!"

Before she could really react, Sayumi found herself being swept up in a massive bear-hug by Junjun, one that she soon eagerly returned. As accurately predicted, Reina backpedaled into Eri a bit, but she then let out a sort of half-sob as she spotted Aika there, making a beeline for the girl she considered as good as blood. These were only the first of multiple hugs, of course, and as everyone went about reacquainting themselves with one another, happy tears were shed and Eri watched it all with a serene smile on her face.

At one point, Reina punched her in the arm.

"You planned this!" She stated accusingly, her face a wreck and joy sparkling in her eyes. It was her way of saying she was happy, of course.

Sayumi was a bit better at communicating, moving over to wrap her arms around the turtle's neck and planting a kiss on her cheek.

"It's perfect. This- I- it's like we get to celebrate with our family too. Thank you."

Eri only smiled, touching their foreheads together. Her girls were pleased; by default, so was she. And she'd even managed to keep it a secret, too.

A knock on the door interrupted the happy reunion, and the turtle moved to open it, revealing a familiar face wearing a goofy grin.

"Sorry I'm la~ate~"

Eri had planned on telling their final guest that it was perfectly alright and inviting her inside, when Sayumi shot past her to tackle the newcomer to the ground with a squeal. She fussed over Koharu in between scolding her for old times' sake and somewhere started crying again, leaving the turtle shaking her head at the door.

"Gaki-san... I may need help trying to get these two back inside..."

----------

Ai was proud.

Nevermind that Risa seemed to be silently mocking her every time she went glassy-eyed, she just couldn't help it. They'd all grown up into such beautiful, talented young women, and she was one of the few that had the privilege of watching it happen from the start. That they loved and took care of each other was simply a bonus.

After all the times she'd worried for them, with them, spent nights up talking with and consoling each one of them, she was enjoying this moment, knowing that all of her investment was worth it.

They no longer needed her, and it was not a point of sadness for her, but rather, of satisfaction knowing she did her job right.

"You're doing it again, papa."

"Stop calling me that!"

----------

Risa was relieved.

That they'd come so far, through struggles and fights and obstacles to end up this close was a blessed miracle in her mind.

She didn't feel like she was holding her breath waiting for the hammer to drop anymore; when she told Eri she was happy for her that night, her smile was genuine for the first time.

"Thank you, Gaki-san..."

----------

Junjun didn't give a damn.

But only because her opinion about the trio had stayed the same from the start. They made each other happy, and she rather liked all three of them individually so who was she to judge?

And she'd beat the living daylights out of anyone who gave them trouble.

"...hey, who raided our fridge?"

Oops.

----------

Linlin was ecstatic.

To be fair, she generally operated on a high level of energy, but being around the members again and seeing them all so happy put her right through the roof. Literally.

"Told you beer and copious amounts of sugar don't mix."

"Someone get her down from there!"

----------

Koharu was drunk.

She still managed to appreciate why she was was there beforehand; she had been the rokkies' first junior, and eventually she came to regard them a bit like surrogate parents for a time.

...Dysfunctional surrogate parents, but they'd loved and taught her to the best of their ability all the same.

"I just love you guys so much~"

"Quit touching my girlfriend's boobs or I'll kill you."

----------

Aika was content.

She had left the group with a pile of worries on her back the size of Mt. Everest, but it was moments like these that reminded her she was never alone and always had someone to turn to or rely on.

Even if they didn't see each other regularly anymore, they were still family. Always.

She snuggled next to Reina on the couch, the yankii lazily throwing an arm around her as the two watched the rest of the group play a card game. Aika studied the older girl for a moment, analyzing the faint smile on her face and following her gaze as it always seemed to be on Sayumi or Eri, protective yet surprisingly tender at the same time. She hoped someday she'd find someone that would look at her that way too.

Reina caught her staring and smiled wider, ruffling her hair. Aika didn't bother fixing it this time, basking in the silent reassurance from her sister.

Everything had turned out pretty well after all.

So much love! The Morning Musume with the pandas was probably my favorite incarnation of the group, I always thought that they were the closest to family than any version of the group before and, so far anyways, after. To see them all pulled back together for a happy celebration is too perfect!

@xyukie56: So, ReinAi is kinda hard for me to write nowadays, but I did say any challenge, so hopefully I managed to deliver something you enjoy. ^^;
@Rini: Angsty? Just remember, you asked for it. XD yours is next. And of course I'm working on Rockstar... Definitely... Absolutely... Every single day... ehehehe
@Rndy: okay but then the Tanagaki I write for you will be fluffy to make up for the sadness I'm sure the one I write for Rini will make me feel. Maybe I'll combine the two into a two-shot XD
@KB: Makes sense to me. :3 I shall try my best!

I'm not really satisfied with this, like I said, ReinAi isnt the easiest for me to write... However, I gave it a shot! And now I shall crawl back into my dark little hole... :cathappy: Enjoy~

With You

They really were a mismatched pair; she in her weird "old woman" clothing, as Reina often put it, and her other half in her wild, bold style that earned looks and caused people passing them on the sidewalk to give them a good amount of space. Perhaps this was a blessing in disguise, because no one dared get close enough to see who they really were, and she tilted her hat further down every time she accidentally met anyone's eyes. Recognition meant no privacy, and she wanted to preserve the latter at least until they made it to their destination, where it would be ensured.

Her partner sensed her mood and walked closer; not touching, but offering her quiet reassurance in the only way possible with so many eyes about. It had been quite a while since they'd last had a chance to be together, and though the temptation was there to simply reach out and grab the other girl's hand, she knew she could not. Unfortunately, she still had rules to follow and a reputation to maintain.

The duo soon reached the place they'd been headed for; a small restaurant off the beaten path and a private room reserved for two. As soon as the waiter had taken their orders and shut the door behind him, the younger of the couple pounced, knocking some of the silverware to the floor.

They met in a fierce kiss, the kind fueled by the ache of separation and need and when it broke, the elder gasped for air, finding that her partner had somehow ended up in her lap.

"Reina..." She breathed, sluggishly remembering where they were and moving to grab wandering hands before they strayed too far off course. The kitten seemed to take the hint and settled for nudging her head up beneath her lover's, curling into her and sighing contentedly.

"Sorry, I just... really missed you, Aichan..."

Ai smiled gently at that, stroking Reina's hair and holding her close, relishing the feel of the younger girl in her arms again after weeks of hard work for both of them. She placed a soft kiss atop her lover's head, hating the fact she had to be the rational one in this situation, but...

"Do you intend to spend the entirety of lunch in my lap?"

Reina leaned back slightly to look up at Ai, and the ex-leader could see the gears turning in the yankii's head.

"Would you even let me?"

"Well," Ai started, faltering a bit at the pleading in the younger girl's gaze, "The waiter might wonder a few things when he comes back with our food..."

Reluctantly, Reina began to slip out of Ai's hold, but the older girl pulled her closer, having second thoughts. She nuzzled into the yankii's hair, breathing in her familiar scent.

"Perhaps... A moment longer wouldn't hurt..."

Reina responded by turning and giving her a kiss, soft and sweet in contrast to the previous one, reminding Ai of the first time they'd ever kissed. Though that had been during more... stressful circumstances, and she was pretty sure one or both of them had been crying and... well, maybe it was nothing like their first kiss at all but she enjoyed it all the same. The kitten then relaxed against her, and they stayed like that for a moment in comfortable silence.

After all, even the simple moments like these were few for them lately.

"Why don't we just live together?"

Ai decided not to answer at first, mind going over the reasons why not for probably the thousandth time. They never really got far with this conversation; usually it ended with Reina getting frustrated and storming out. And the last time they'd broached the subject, the two agreed to take a bit of a break from one another.

A break that lasted four weeks and three days much too long in the ex-leader's opinion.

Her list of reasons against moving in together had been quickly dwindling as of late, especially considering the fact that she didn't want to lose Reina altogether. She sighed, mumbling out a muffled response into her girlfriend's hair.

"We can't afford a new place."

"Maybe not immediately... But you won't even plan anything out with me," The kitten's voice was quiet, subdued, and Ai felt pangs of guilt stab at her, "But if you're really that worried, you could move in with me or I could move in with you..."

"Neither of our places are really meant for two people."

"So it'll be cozy, so what. Ai..."

The ex-leader lifted her head at the use of her name-sans-honorific, meeting Reina's eyes, which were currently starting to brim with tears.

"I feel like you just list all these reasons because you really don't want to live with me..."

"What? That's... Why would you think that?"

"Because your reasons keep getting more lame." Reina shot back, a tiny bit of irritation coloring her tone. Ai let her hold on the girl fall slack, prepared if the kitten decided to bare her claws.

"At first, I tried to understand... I mean, it pissed me off when you told me why we shouldn't, but I'll accept that in the beginning it may have been a bad idea. I was too young, we were both still in Momusu, neither of us were on our own, fine, I get all of that."

"Reina..."

The yankii pressed on, determined to finish what she had to say. Stopping her was like trying to derail a train; difficult, and the consequences were messy. Ai wisely shut her mouth.

"But I'm 22 now, and you graduated... And let's face it, I'm likely to be next soon, if not after or with Sayu--I'm ready to move on to this next phase of my life and I don't want to do it alone. I'm tired of coming home to an empty apartment after work and an empty bed and wondering why the hell you're not in it yet."

Ai blushed lightly at that, though she somehow managed to maintain a serious expression, swallowing as she began her hesitant response.

"I'm afraid."

The simple answer seemed to catch Reina off-guard.

"Oh," Was all she said at first, feeling a bit on the dumb side, "...Risa-chan said that might be it... Maybe I should have listened to her..."

"She knows me." Ai responded gently, reaching up to tuck a stray bit of hair behind one of Reina's ears. The yankii scowled.

"I'm learning..."

"You are. At least, when you decide to slow down some," Ai said, smiling lightly in an attempt to diffuse her girlfriend's frustration. "But I kind of like that about you anyway."

"It doesn't explain why, though." Reina insisted. "I'm scared too, but I still want to do it..."

"I'm worried things will change."

The yankii raised an eyebrow as if to say, "well, duh," but she stayed quiet, giving Ai the chance to elaborate.

"I mean, what if you decide after living with me that you're bored of me or what if being together all the time means we fight all the time?"

Reina reached for the older woman's hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze.

"I could never find you boring. And  we might fight, but we've fought before and we always manage to work it out." Ai sighed, bringing their joined hands up to her face so she could kiss the back of Reina's.

"I guess I thought if I kept delaying it then we'd just stay perfect, but that was... a really stupid idea... I'm sorry."

"Yeah, well, we can be stupid together." Reina replied, leaning forward to touch their foreheads together. "If I'd listened to Risa instead of getting into a big fight with her, maybe we would have had a better conversation about this sooner."

Ai grinned, pulling the girl in for another kiss. This one quickly became insistent, but the older girl's hands were doing the roaming now, much to Reina's surprise. As she felt the buttons on her shirt being undone, the yankii half-heartedly pushed her girlfriend away.

"Ai, I thought- the waiter..."

"Let him wonder."

Ai pushed her down onto the floor then, and Reina's resolve melted away as lips nibbled at her ear and a hand slipped beneath her shirt. She shivered when the lips stopped suddenly, and warm breath tickled her neck.

"Move in with me?"

The yankii smiled slowly, tugging on Ai's collar so that she could see the girl's face. There was uncertainty in the elder's gaze, but this disappeared as soon as Reina  looked at her, conveying the answer before she even opened her mouth to speak.

"Of course, you idiot. All these years and never once did I change my mind."

Ai smiled and leaned down to kiss her, and the two continued on to a few activities that their poor waiter would stumble upon later.

So that's a RenAi out of the way, one I'm oddly happy with. Maybe it was all that mention of being on good terms with Gaki... still a cute little piece, though, and lol at the ending XD

@rndy: haha glad you're happy with it; I feel like ReinAi generally means a lot of angst for poor Gaki so I didn't wanna go that route. Especially considering I'm supposed to be putting some angst in this next one XD

@kjpop: I certainly wouldn't mind being that waiter... Ahaha and yes, yes it is. I for one am staying the hell away from it from now on. XD

Uh, how do I angst? Maybe more in the next bit when Gaki comes along... Why is Gaki-angst so easy to write?! I swear this will have a happy ending. And also it's a three-shot. -throws confetti- I'm just in a Tanagaki mood. :cathappy: And this was almost a story about werewolves. XD Enjoy~

P.S. This is the song I'm listening to to write this, and also what I named it for, in case anyone is curious~

Romance Is, Part I

"Still moping?"

Reina lifted her head from where she'd been pouring over her solo shots from the recent cover shoot, turning to see Sayumi standing in the doorway, arms crossed. The bunny was half-smirking and giving her a knowing look, and the yankii instinctively bristled in response, going into defense mode.

"What are you talking about? I'm doing work here."

Leader raised her hands slightly, shrugging and moving forward to join Reina at the table. She hovered over her generation-mate, eyeing the photos with feigned interest.

"Sure, sure. Work. Any reason why you're off here by yourself doing work?"

"The kids are loud," Reina growled, tempted to lean back and headbutt the older girl in the stomach.

"Oh come on, Reina. I'm not stupid. You love the kids." Sayumi replied, leaning forward to grab one of the pictures to study it more closely. "You even like that Sato and Kuduu follow you around like puppies, much as you try to pretend not to."

Reina leaned back to glance up at her companion, shooting her a glare.

"So what. I have to build up my army after all. Doesn't mean I wanna be around them all the time."

"I'm just concerned you're becoming distant from everyone. Ever since Gaki-san and Aika left, you've been isolating yourself--more than usual." Sayumi added before Reina could protest, anticipating the interruption. The yankii remained quiet for a moment, thinking about her friend's words.

She had been slipping away more lately. Purposely, of course--Sayumi was right about that too--but she wasn't doing it to hurt the other members. But not only was she trying to cope with something in particular, Aika was gone, so the person she'd talked to the most after Ai wasn't even around for her to be able to voice her thoughts.

However, Sayumi seemed to be trying to slip into that void lately, and even Reina had to admit that the bunny was definitely stepping up as leader. And, when the yankii would let her, as a friend. Somewhere deep down inside she was actually impressed by her fellow rokkie's growth, but that sentiment she would carry to her grave.

Still, she had no one else to really turn to at this point, and she supposed if she was potentially affecting the group's dynamic... As leader, Sayumi had a right to know.

"Well..." Reina started, taking in a deep breath, "You know how Gaki-san and I were sort of fighting? Until recently, I mean?"

Sayumi replaced the picture she was looking at, settling her hands on either side of the back of Reina's chair in order to give the girl her full attention. She certainly didn't expect the girl to spill to her, but neither was she going to question it.

"Yeah?"

"Do you know... What we were fighting for?"

Sayumi grinned, sensing her fellow rokkie's hesitance and moving to rub the girl's shoulders in an impromptu massage.

"The general opinion was that either Gaki-san did something to annoy you and you ripped into her a bit too deep or she dealt a major blow to your pride somehow. But... knowing Gaki-san and knowing you, I always thought it was something else."

The kitten began to lean back into her touch, eyes rolling shut, and Sayumi realized then just how tense and tired the girl really was. Whatever she had been keeping to herself was taking its toll, and the bunny was determined to drag it out of her.

"The two of you may be stubborn as hell, but I never imagined some petty reason would keep you from being friends." Sayumi continued, working on a tough knot in Reina's neck, "...What really happened?"

"I kissed her."

The leader's hands stopped suddenly, as if she wasn't sure she heard correctly. Reina swallowed, gripping onto her courage before it slipped away and rendered her unable to get this out in the open.

"I was trying... to tell her that I liked her... maybe more, and that I wanted to be more than friends..." The yankii murmured quietly, recalling the painful experience, "Only, she thought I was playing a joke on her and was laughing it off so I... uh, I grabbed her and kissed her and it backfired. Spectacularly."

"What did she do?" Sayumi asked gently, stroking the younger girl's hair to offer some form of comfort.

"Blew up, of course. She got really angry and started shouting at me, saying things like she wasn't like that and that I had taken the joke too far... Apparently me kissing her only made me seem more insincere..." Reina sighed, eyes taking on a despondent haze, "And then I said some things... Stupid things because I was angry and hurt... Like accusing her of being a terrible friend. And it just sort of escalated until we walked away and stopped talking altogether."

"But you guys made up, right? I felt like towards the end there--before Gaki-san left, it seemed like things were almost back to normal again."

Unless... The leader scanned Reina's face for an answer, and blinked in surprise when she found it, the yankii's guard down for once. Sayumi jumped back from the chair, pointing a finger at her friend.

"You love her!" The bunny shrieked, diving out of the way when the kitten whirled around and lunged for her. This initiated a chase through the halls that ended  in the lounge, Reina pinning Sayumi to the ground... in front of all their juniors. The kyuukies, used to their seniors' antics by now, wisely ignored the interruption, while some of the youngest generation rose from their seats, alarmed.

"Tanaka-san...?" Haruka questioned hesitantly, but the yankii merely held up a finger.

"It's nothing, we're taking care of some business, that's all."

"You're breaking my arm!"

Reina pulled her leader to her feet, glaring dangerously.

"I wouldn't have to if you weren't so loud." She hissed, beginning to drag Sayumi back to the other room. Masaki made as though to follow, when the yankii whirled on her. "Nope. Sit."

The younger girl let out a tiny eep and immediately obeyed, flopping back down as her two senpai exited the lounge.

"Looks like someone's gunning for that scariest senpai spot..." Sayumi stated dryly as they returned to where Reina had been pouring over photos, watching the yankii shut the door. "And based on your reaction, I know I'm right."

"About what?" Reina grumbled, moving to the mirror in the room to fix her hair.

"You totally love her."

"Hey," The yankii snapped, quickly facing her companion, "I didn't say that, you did."

"Fine, but you can only deny your true feelings for so long~" Sayumi sing-songed, clasping her hands together and resisting the urge to do a little twirl.

This was just too perfect to leave alone. Reina would never make a move to change the situation, and Risa, well... She'd have to go through Ai for the scoop on this particular issue. And she would need... backup. But damnit, she would see these two together even if it killed her to make it happen!

Well, maybe not kill. She was too cute to die just yet.

"Anyway, I'm gonna go do some damage control with the kids... And, Reina?"

"What?"

Sayumi pulled the younger girl into a tight hug, a risky move for anyone who knew her. But she also knew Reina needed the support, and much to her delight, the yankii grudgingly relaxed into the embrace.

"Thank you for trusting me."

"Yeah, well, let's not make too big a thing out of this..." Reina mumbled into her fellow rokkie's shoulder. "I have a reputation to keep."

"Of course." The rabbit released her with a smile, and as she left the room said smile morphed into a devious smirk. When she felt she was far enough out of range she began to dial a number on her phone, grinning as the person on the other line picked up.

"Aichan~ Got a minute?"

yay updates! :3  I swore to myself that I'd leave a comment for "With You" before you updated...but I ended up falling asleep while spinning around on my chair ^_^;

With You
Not my ideal pairing, but their closeness was so cute :3  I don't blame Aichan for being scared.  I've seen a lot of potential lovey dovey couples decide to move in together and they end up breaking up due to fights and being bored with each other.  Although we all know that would never happen to ReinAi! XD

You know...that waiter probably watched for a while before finally interrupting their love-fest XD

Romance Is, Part One
Three parts!?  yes YES YES! :D  I thank you~  I'm a bit curious as how this almost became a werewolf fic.  That's for another day~

Now we all know the true reason for the TanaGaki feud...makes sense in the fictional world and the real world :3  Can't wait to see part two and part three!  Angst+Happy ending is always a great couple ^_^

P.S.  You know what's almost as easy to write as Gaki-angst?  Gaki-death XD

The start of Tanagaki!! Wait, werewolves?  :? :huhuh :O :shocked :D XD

That would be interesting, though.

I wonder how Ai will react to the bunny's scheme...?

@kjpop: Sayu with a plan is scary Sayu... But she means well! Maybe? Kinda. XD

@Rini: You fell asleep in a spinning chair? Whoa, talent. XD ReinAi used to be one of my top pairings but the more stuff I watched with them the more I got a big/lil sis student-mentor vibe. I still like 'em enough I suppose. I have the same experience with friends breaking up after moving in together tho. I guess the moral there is be prepared for what you're getting into? And yep, I tried to tie in evidence of their little feud. Glad it seems believable. ^^ ...And I think you're right about Gaki-death, but no need to worry about that in this story. X3

@rndy: How will Ai react? By getting dragged along for the ride of course. XD

To answer the werewolf thing, y'all gotta understand I am on some serious meds right now so my dreams have been weird heheh. All I can say is there were sexy werewolf times. ...And then I made out with a younger Iida Kaori. So. Yeah. Um. Here's part two! Enjoy~ :cathappy:

Romance Is, Part II

"It will never work," Ai repeated for perhaps the dozenth time in the conversation, "They're both way too suspicious to get put in a situation like that. And who's to say they won't just get up and walk off? Or worse yet, they may just sit there the whole time and make things more awkward..."

"I'm not so sure about that." Sayumi replied, taking a sip of her drink before turning her head to look out the window. She'd asked Ai to come meet her for lunch at a nice ocean-side restaurant, the likes of which overlooked the water. Were it a different situation, she would be relishing the time with the older woman, but she reminded herself that this was for Reina and Risa.

Ai was damned oblivious anyway.

She glanced back at Ai, setting down her drink in order to fold her hands together and lean forward.

"After all, you said it yourself that you think it's possible Gaki-san has feelings for Reina... And Reina all but admitted to me she loves Gaki-san. I think all they need is a shove in the right direction; towards each other."

Ai sighed, removing her sunglasses to rub at the tiny red marks that were left behind on the bridge of her nose. This wasn't exactly what she had expected to discuss with Sayumi... today or ever. She had never really given much thought to Risa's love interests, to be honest. And when the bunny asked her about it, she sat there dumbly for a moment, unable to answer. But the more she processed the idea in her mind, the more it seemed plausible. It certainly explained a lot of her best friend's behavior over the last few years...

However, Sayumi's idea to throw the two of them into a blind date with each other seemed a bit... stupid. For one thing, she had no earthly idea how the bunny would convince Reina to go for such a thing, but she supposed that wasn't her problem. Risa would be just as difficult, especially considering how off she seemed lately.

But Ai also wanted Risa to be happy, something she was sure that currently the bean was not. Content, perhaps, but she felt like her best friend was just keeping busy to avoid being alone. She deserved more. Much more.

"Okay, so, let's say... hypothetically... We manage to get them to go out. How exactly do you propose getting them together so they realize the other is the one they're supposed to be out with?"

"Simple," Sayumi replied with a grin, "A private room for two. And it's also my way of ensuring they don't try to leave before things end the way they're supposed to."

Ai narrowed her eyes sharply.

"Michishige Sayumi, I am not locking two of my closest friends into a room together."

"No, but I am~"

----------

Risa felt very much like she was going to vomit. She had never been on a blind date before, and the few normal--admittedly secret--dates she'd had all ended awkwardly due to her having to be so inconspicuous about it. Now that that didn't matter anymore, she felt like she should be less nervous, but not knowing who to expect made things much worse.

Ai had been very vague in her description; apparently the guy was confident, straight-forward, and had a thing for fashion. Not that the bean found any of those traits off-putting... but the list reminded her a lot of... someone else.

She wasn't sure she could date someone who wasn't, well, that person, especially if they ended up being so similar.

Risa shook her head furiously to clear her thoughts, approaching the restaurant she was supposed to meet her date at. It was a pretty nice place, not too upscale, but definitely not cheap, leaving the bean to wonder about this mystery person's lifestyle and tastes. She reached into her purse to check her phone for the time, satisfied that she was still several minutes early. Risa took a deep breath to steady herself, prepared to go inside when a voice called out to her from down the block.

"Hey! Gaki-san!"

The bean turned to catch sight of Reina walking towards her, and she froze completely. The yankii was wearing a black evening dress with a v-cut front, revealing just enough of her soft, pale skin. Her light auburn hair rested gracefully on her shoulders, and her makeup helped to accentuate her already piercing eyes. She smiled softly when she approached Risa, and the older woman forgot how to speak. Fortunately, the yankii could talk enough for ten people when given the opportunity, and if she noticed Risa's current state, she ignored it.

"What are you doing here?" Reina asked, quietly appraising her friend's outfit choices for the night, "You look good. Got a hot date?"

The question was light and teasing, but Risa sensed something behind it, almost as though the yankii hoped it weren't true. Hell, right now even she didn't want it to be true.

"Actually, yeah... I don't know the guy, though... I'm supposed to go inside and wait but I was sort of hesitating here..." She admitted dumbly, watching the briefest flicker of disappointment pass through Reina's eyes. Risa quickly changed the subject. "What about you? I mean, you... look really beautiful tonight."

The younger girl blushed slightly, eyes falling to the ground.

"Thank you. I, um, have a date too. Though I'm actually a little late..."

A spike of jealousy settled in Risa's stomach, though she couldn't really place her finger on why. After all, the yankii was free to do what she wanted, right? She certainly had no right to think anything else... And then Reina was saying something, and the bean quickly refocused her attention, just barely catching the end of the sentence.

"...go inside now, since I've already kept them waiting. See you around, Gaki-san."

The girl offered her another small smile before turning as though to enter the restaurant. Reacting quickly, Risa reached out and put her hand on Reina's shoulder to stop her. The yankii gave her a confused, questioning look, and Risa quickly scrambled for a reason, any reason to remain with the girl.

"I could come with you, since I'm still really early for my own date," She offered, "You could use me as your excuse for being late, say that you saw me and we just got caught up in conversation."

It sounded stupid, spilling out of her mouth like that, but relief washed over Reina's features. The yankii reached up for the hand on her shoulder, lacing their fingers together.

"Perfect idea. Shall we?"

Risa's heart skipped a beat, and she nodded wordlessly, following quietly after Reina.

----------

She was instantly wary as they entered the room together, automatically realizing that something was off. For such a nice place to make the mistake of putting the two of them in the same room... And the fact that her 'date' was nowhere to be seen, despite how late she was.

Reina was putting the puzzle pieces together in her head, and as she watched Risa admiring the decorations, the picture became clear to her.

"Gaki-san...?"

"Hm?"

"Who set you up for this date?"

"Oh, Aichan did. She thought maybe I needed to get out... Said Sayumin knew someone I might like."

Sayumi...

Before she could react, the door slammed shut behind her, followed the telltale sound of the lock clicking into place. Reina slammed her fist against it, making Risa jump in alarm.

"Sayu, you open this door right now!" She growled, irritation rising when she heard giggles erupt from the other side. "I'm not kidding, let us out or I'll strangle you."

Her phone buzzed in her purse and she yanked it out, angrily pressing it to her ear, Sayumi's voice floating through the speaker.

"Well, you'd have to get to me to strangle me and I'm pretty confident you're too little to break down a door..."

"Sayu..." Reina took a deep, steady breath through her nose, attempting to calm herself. Risa was watching the entire exchange with an extremely confused look on her face, and as the kitten conversed with the bunny, she moved to try and open the door. When she confirmed for herself it was locked, confusion turned into slight panic, and she twisted the handle furiously as if it would somehow magically change things. Reina clapped her free hand over her ear to block out the noise, and tried to keep her cool as she continued speaking.

"Listen, this isn't funny, alright?"

"I mean, I'm pretty amused..."

Outside the room, Sayumi was leaning against the door, a smirk on her face. Ai was beside her, eyebrows scrunched together with worry as she strained to hear what Reina was saying. The yankii's voice suddenly exploded into a string of colorful words, mostly threatening Sayumi's life, and the bunny lazily held the phone away from her ear, rolling her eyes as she waited for the tirade to end. When she felt that the volume level was tolerable again, she shifted her phone to the other ear, grinning.

"Just think of this as an opportunity, Reina. Aichan and I are here to bail you out if things get messy. ...Unless of course, you guys enjoy that sort of thing."

Another wave of curses burst from the the other end of the line, and Sayumi snapped her phone shut, unable to stifle the cackle that escaped her throat. Ai watched her carefully, as if she was seeing the rabbit under a new light.

"You're sort of evil. Like, scary evil." The ex-leader commented quietly, taking a step back.

"Thank you very much," Sayumi replied, proud of her deviousness. "Now... we wait."

...and hope that neither of them says or does something stupid.

Wasn't this supposed to be angst? That does not give me any hope for this locked in a room together plan to turn out well at all.

Still, Risa's nervousness and her shy compliment to Reina were cute, as well as the intimate bit of handholding that was going on.

Then, bam! Plan into action and an evil bunny shows her true colors. XD Even Ai is like :O

@kjpop: Heheh, Sayu is brave, alright... Though that may backfire on her a bit here. For everyone's amusement, of course. XD

@rndy: I've decided I'm not so good at purposely writing angst, it comes out really lame and corny... Sort of like how I feel this did. When I'm not trying to be angsty, tho, it works out just fine. Bleh.

@Rini: Risa can't deny the truth! You can't run away from love~ XD

Well, I finished it. Sort of not happy with it but again I think my angst-meter is broken as indicated by happy ending and Comic Relief!AiSayu. I hope you enjoy nevertheless~

Romance Is, Part III (Final)

Risa decided this was the second-most awkward moment of her life, right after the time Reina kissed her. The yankii had unsuccessfully tried to persuade their friends to let them out, so here they were twenty minutes later, seated at the table and taking advantage of the food that had been prepared for them.

Or rather, Reina was eating, tearing into the meat as though it personally offended her. Risa didn't have much of an appetite and busied herself by prodding her food with a spoon, glancing across the table at her companion when she thought the other wasn't looking.

"I can't believe she'd go this far..." Reina grumbled, forcefully skewering another bite onto her fork, "And then to get Aichan involved too... Ugh, that's the last time I trust Sayu with anything..."

The bean wondered curiously what that was supposed to mean, but didn't question it, considering Reina's mood. Her own was starting to sink fairly low, as Risa had a hunch the yankii was none too happy to spend the evening alone with her. Reina continued muttering things to herself, but her acute ability to read the atmosphere quickly brought her attention back to her companion.

"What is it?" The younger girl questioned, concern evident in her features.

"Things between us... Well, we are okay, aren't we?" Risa asked hesitantly, daring to meet the other girl's eyes. It was Reina's turn to be confused.

"Of course we are, why would you think otherwise?"

"You just seem pretty upset to be here... With me."

Reina quickly held her hands up, shaking her head.

"Ah, that's not- I'm sorry if that's how I made it seem, but that's not why I'm upset, I swear." The words tumbled quickly out of the yankii's mouth, and Risa couldn't remember a time when she'd ever seen the girl quite as flustered. She thought it was adorable, but she could tell Reina was hiding something, and her curiosity and suspicion rose.

"Then what's up? Why would Aichan and Sayumin set us up on fake blind dates and then lock us in here like this?"

Reina crossed her arms, watching Risa steadily for a moment and trying to give the older female time to work out the answer on her own. When the bean continued to look confused, the yankii sighed and leaned back in her chair.

"Think about it. Maybe they were fake 'blind' dates but I'm pretty convinced this is still supposed to be a date..."

"Eh?" Reina watched the gears turn in Risa's head until they ground to a sudden halt and the bean's eyes flashed with realization. The older girl's cheeks began to turn a light pink and she did a nice imitation of a fish as she struggled to find words to say.

Ai and Sayumi had set them up on a date? Her and Reina? Together?! Her heart did a quick flipflop. There was no way any of them could have known about her feelings... Right? She hadn't told anyone, not even Ai, simply because she'd been working so hard to bury them. After all, she didn't think she deserved to have such feelings... Not after the way things ended so poorly with Reina. And then she and the yankii had been forced to be around each other for the musical, and slowly but surely began rebuilding a shaky friendship; something she hadn't expected, but was extremely grateful for.

She didn't think she could have graduated leaving things so unsettled between them.

"You said... Something about not being able to trust Sayumin after this..." Risa started, slowly, "What did you say to her?"

"I... can't tell you." Reina replied quietly, biting down on her bottom lip. The bean didn't know how to take that, really. What was such a big deal that it had to be kept secret from her? Unless...

"You told Sayu but you can't tell me? Makes me wonder if you didn't set this whole thing up yourself..."

The yankii's irritation returned.

"Oh, here we go- why is it you always jump to conclusions like that?"

"Maybe because you've already messed with me before?"

Reina snorted, pushing her chair roughly away from the table so she could stand. The kitten stalked towards the door, digging around for something in her purse as she knelt down in front of it. Risa sighed, getting to her feet as well.

"...What are you doing?"

The yankii shot her a fierce glare, but what startled the bean more was the fact that the younger girl's eyes were filling up with tears.

"First, I think it's pretty for dumb for you to ask me if we're okay if you're the one still holding on to stuff. Second," she produced a hairpin from her bag and began to mess with the lock, "I'm gonna get out of here and away from you."

"Tanakacchi, listen-"

"No, you listen." Reina whirled on her suddenly, leaving the door momentarily to get up in the bean's face. "Just accept it. Accept the fact that you're smart, and sweet, and beautiful. That you make people laugh and you're one of the best shoulders to cry on and that everyone knows they can count on you when they need somebody. Accept that you deserve someone special who'll take care of you and tell you they love you as much as you can bear to hear it."

Risa couldn't breathe, every word making her chest feel tighter. She hadn't expected Reina to say anything like that and could do nothing but stand there like an idiot in the face of the yankii's outburst.

"Accept all of that... And then realize those are all reasons why I fell for you. Hard. ...And I guess you don't have to believe that part if you don't want to..." Tears were streaming openly down the younger girl's face now, and she began to step back away from the bean, who was still too busy trying to process things to reach out for her. "But I never lied about how I felt. I'm sorry if it makes you uncomfortable. We can go back to not being friends."

Before Risa could respond, the yankii managed to pick the lock and flung the door open... right into one Michishige Sayumi's face. The force knocked the bunny flat on her back, and Ai quickly shifted to the side before Reina barreled into her, watching as the girl fled the restaurant.

Sayumi lay still, dazed and moaning something about her beautiful face, while Ai, wide-eyed, turned to Risa, who looked as though she'd been slapped.

"...Gaki-san?"

"Shoes."

"I'm sorry?" Ai blinked, even more confused. The bean finally seemed to snap out of it and hurried to the door, leaning against the frame as she attempted to slip out of her heels.

"Take off your shoes, I need them."

Risa's frantic words convinced her best friend to begin untying her sneakers, and she'd just barely gotten them off of her feet when the bean snatched them from her hands and began to put them on. It was then Ai understood. You can't catch a runaway yankii in heels, of course. She put a hand on Risa's shoulder as the girl made to leave, taking note of the determination in her eyes.

"I would check the park first." Ai stated gently, a soft but encouraging smile on her face. Risa returned the expression, whispering a quiet thank you before turning to follow after Reina.

Ai watched her friend disappear, standing there for a moment with a bit of a proud grin before remembering Sayumi sprawled out on the floor behind her. She carefully knelt down beside the bunny, wincing as her eyes traveled over the angry red knot forming on the girl's forehead.

"...Are you alright?"

"I may have... deserved that... However," Leader pulled herself up into a seated position using ex-leader's arm as leverage, swaying dangerously, "I don't know if you're aware but there's a storm front passing through tonight..."

"Meaning...?"

"Meaning whatever happens between those two next is gonna be better than any drama on tv, and I Will. Not. Miss. It." Sayumi replied, eyes crossing more with each punctuated word. "Take me to them, my prince!"

Ai sighed, dragging Sayumi to her feet and wondering again how she ended up a part of this at all.

"Also, we need to find an umbrella."

----------

She found Reina nearly half an hour later right where Ai said she might be, standing under a pavilion in the park, soaked and shaking and nothing short of miserable.

Risa assumed she looked almost identical, if not worse, as she'd tripped and fallen into some mud during her run. So much for her new clothes.

But as cold and nasty as she felt on the outside, the bean felt strangely empowered as she watched the girl from a distance, and she gathered herself as she approached, gaining more courage with every step. Because of the storm, the kitten didn't hear her until they were both under the pavilion together, and Reina jumped slightly when she realized Risa was there, looking very much like she might run again.

"Tanakacchi," The bean started with warning in her tone, "I will tackle you to the ground..."

"Why did you follow me?" Reina asked, voice quivering slightly. Risa quickly decided that the yankii wasn't very scary when she was drenched in rain, and she took another step forward.

"You didn't give me a chance to say anything back there..."

"You don't have to, look, it's okay, really, if it's easier this way, that's fine... You've moved on from Momusu so it's not like we even have to cross paths and stuff so I-"

Maybe it was a bit ironic and cliche to do things this way, but Risa couldn't really think of a more effective way to both shut Reina up and tell her what she needed to say than to simply pull the girl close and kiss her. The yankii completely froze up at first, but soon relaxed into the bean's arms, responding to the gentle touch.

At least, until she delivered a hard slap to the older girl's cheek. Risa pulled back, stunned, her reaction queen instincts kicking in full gear.

"Ow! Hey! What the hell did you--mmph!"

She was cut off by warm lips meeting hers once more, this time more insistent. The bean found herself being pressed back into one of the beams that held the pavilion up, and she clung to Reina's waist to keep both of them steady. Her mind was clouding over with a pleasant haze, one that lingered and left a stupid grin on her face even as the younger girl pulled away.

"If you were going to do that, why did you slap me?" Risa breathed, bringing her hands up to brush aside the strands of wet hair that had plastered themselves to the yankii's face. A faint blush colored Reina's cheeks, and the bean traced this with her thumbs as the younger girl gave her a sheepish look.

"Well... You sort of just grabbed me... It was a bit of a reflex..."

"I guess it's a good thing I'm not the one that tried to kiss you that first time then." The bean replied with a light chuckle. Reina didn't seem completely at ease yet, however.

"But... are you sure... About us? This? Whatever this even is..."

Risa shushed the younger girl and pulled her closer, definitely enjoying the way the kitten responded by snuggling into her.

"Look, let's just stop making things so complicated, okay? The reason I reacted the way I did back then and why I never came to terms with my feelings until recently was because I kept trying to categorize them and make everything make sense... And then I realized that it doesn't have to. That really, all that matters is I love you."

Reina looked up at those three words, searching Risa's eyes for the truth. The bean smiled at her, happy to give her all the reassurance in the world, and she dipped her head to meet her girl's lips for another kiss.

The new lovers stayed that way for a while even as the rain fell around them, oblivious to everything but each other. Well, almost oblivious.

"You know Aichan and Sayu are watching us right now?" Reina murmured against the older girl's lips, the edges of her own turning upwards in amusement.

"Nope. I also am gonna completely ignore Sayumin's shouting at me to kiss you again."

So naturally, Risa kissed her again.

Off in the distance, there was a loud shriek as Ai pushed Sayumi into the fountain they were seated on, being the good best friend she was. Everything was gonna be just fine.

I'm gonna do this thing from now on, where I wave this epic banner that has "QUIETRIOT" on it in like obnoxious bold red letters. I'm gonna wave the shit out of that thing every time you update and/or leave me hanging.

If a person can sh!t sunshine and rainbows, I think I would have done so by now LOL because that was adorbs <333 Because trading heels for a pair of chucks to run after the love of your life and making out in the rain is fluffier than a new damn pillow from walmart.

TROLL SAYU IS AMAZING.

I'm hopping back and forth between hating Ai and Sayu in Rockstar's Guide and loving them here. Y U MAKE ME BIPOLAR?!?!?

and another thing: you DO realize this just makes me want Tanagaki even more right? RIGHT? *waves banner*

Also, KB, I haven't forgotten your request for a Gakipon shot.  :cathappy: I just haven't had much experience writing the kids yet and I don't wanna half-ass it so it'll happen soon, I swear!

Crimson, Part I

Steel boots crunched through snow and brush as their wearer tramped sluggishly through the forest, her steps shaky and unstable. The armor had done the woman little good against razor sharp fangs and claws, and with every move she made, blood oozed from the wounds at her shoulder and at her hip, leaving behind a trail of crimson stark against the frozen earth. She knew very well that she wouldn't get far in this condition, but the woman pressed on, desperate to escape the borders of the wood before she succumbed to unconsciousness... perhaps even death.

With her good arm she gripped her shoulder tightly, attempting to stem the flow of blood a bit, and in her injured one was her sword, dark and slick with the life of her more unfortunate opponents. She was having great trouble keeping hold of it, and thus the tip dragged along the ground, scraping roughly against every rock and root it encountered.

The woman lurched suddenly, swaying dangerously into a tree, her sword falling to the ground with a clang. She slid down against the trunk until she was seated, grunting as her wounds complained in waves of pain.

This was it. She could not will her aching muscles to move any farther, and the blood loss clouded her ability to think. Even if she had the strength to stand, at this point she no longer knew where she was going. As the snow chilled her body, she drew her red cloak tight around herself for what little comfort it would provide.

As she lay there waiting for the darkness to take her, the woman's thoughts were of the people she loved: her best friend, torn to pieces while defending her home, her parents, likely dead as well, and her sister, whom she hoped was faring better than she. Hot tears burned trails down her cheeks, and she leaned her head back against the tree, silently mourning all that had been lost.

And then anger washed away the sorrow, and she gritted her teeth hard to hold back the bile that burned in her throat.

The attack had come with no warning at all, no provocation, not even a glimpse of suspicious activity around the borders of the city. Instead, the wolves had descended upon them in the night like deadly shadows, destroying everything in sight, everything she had held dear. There was simply no time to react; her years of training to slay the beasts were useless in the face of an ambush so carefully calculated. And with them being so easily outnumbered...

She did not deserve to be a knight after such failure. It would have been better that she died alongside the others than to suffer the cruel fate of lingering here. The woman coughed weakly as she allowed fresh tears to fall for herself.

A branch snapped somewhere nearby, and she lifted her head slightly, unable to discern if the sound was real or hallucination. Even now with death breathing down her neck, her instinct was to reach for her sword, and she pulled the weapon towards her, propping it up against her knee as best she could.

Her eyes had begun to flutter shut as a large shape emerged from the trees in front of her, and though black spots were taking over her vision, the low rumble that followed told her all she needed to know.

Of course... I've left a trail so thick even a cub would be able to find me here...

"Well, well..." A voice, sounding much more like a constant growl than anything else, brusquely interrupted the silence, "Never in my life did I expect to see a Red in these parts... And never in a thousand lifetimes one so near her final breath..."

The woman coughed out a laugh, smirking as best she could.

"Have you come to kill me, wolf? I spilled the blood of at least three of your brothers before I came to be here..."

The figure loomed closer to the woman, to where she could now fully make out the details even as her vision was fading. It was a giant wolf, standing a good six feet from massive paw to shoulder, light brown fur easily contrasting with the snow. The woman noted that the beast was a bit more slender and much less wild-looking than the wolves that had laid siege to her home, almost like a dog, and she thought this was peculiar until her eyes landed on something secured around the wolf's neck.

A collar, fashioned of a length of leather and pieces of metal--the knight knew from experience this was silver--was fastened tightly around the beast's neck, obviously much too small as it was embedded into fur and skin.

A slave...

"My brothers?" The wolf questioned, something akin to amusement coloring its' growl, "I have no brothers here. And neither do you, it would seem..."

The knight feebly lifted the tip of her sword, pointing it towards the wolf's neck as it padded closer.

"I have some bite left in me." She warned, having no intention of going down without a struggle.

But the wolf stopped moving, settling down on its hind legs in front of the knight and lowering its head so that the woman could look into piercing golden eyes.

"Indeed. What is your name, Red?"

Never once lowering her sword, the woman used her good arm to prop herself up against the tree as best she could.

"Niigaki Risa." Came the labored response, "What do you intend to do with me, wolf?"

"I intend for you to rest."

Those golden eyes began to blur in the knight's vision, and were the last thing Risa saw before she faded, a peaceful haze overtaking her.

I hate myself for this. But when I think of werewolves, I think of twilight, and I have like these violent gag reactions when they pop up. bad times, yo. BUT THIS. THIS IS NICE. I CAN LIVE WITH THIS.

Can we all just keep making Gaki's life a living tragedy? Because it's fun and wonderful, and it makes me feel like shit, but but but T__T SHE MAKES IT SO EASY. HAHAHA If only she knew~ She'd probably be all like WOOO HIGH FIVE I'M PRETTY BADASS IN ALL THESE FICS. Then the next moment she'd have our heads because it's like Y U MAKE MY LIFE SUCK ASSSSSSS?!?!?!?!? lol She'd probably sue me for what I'm gonna make her go through in QPQ bwahahha

But i mean, knight in shining armor gaki is kind of funny to imagine. Attractive, but funny LOL

P.S. You are not allowed to hold out another chapter for Rockstar. Nope, no sir. I don't approve

First sentence and Risa's life is already completely screwed up...I love it :D  This is probably the only fic where I won't pray for a perv...cause it'd kinda be bestiality and that's pretty weird XD But anyways, yay for the werewolf thing!  Part two must commence soon please :)

I like this "completely screw up Risa's life" club :)  WE ARE SUCH AWESOME FANS GUYS!  :twothumbs  We kill her, we make her kill, we send her to jail, we emotionally scar her for life...yeah...we're good fans :)

Y U NO SHARE FIMMY? I GUESS I'LL BE STALKING YOU TONIGHT AT 1 AGAIN~

@KB: I'm still catching up on stuff with the 9/10kis. I've gotten to where I love them all  but idk they just haven't cemented themselves fic-wise in my head. XD; and... well... my excuse for making Gaki's life suck here is that the setting isn't happy to begin with. Kinda like the world sucks and she's just in it XD

@kjpop: -almost wrote jkpop because dyslexia- I wanna push Stephanie Meyer off a cliff. (No offense to anyone who does actually enjoy Twilight...) Glad you can live with this tho. ^^ Ahaha maybe we should just write movies for Risa~ And XD ever since Prince Gaki in Cinderella I have no trouble seeing her as a knight/prince/whatever I MAY have this thing for armor and uniforms. It's just a little thing. No really. also I do what I want. :P  :deco:

@Rini: No perv? Well okay. XD Wouldn't write one with any of them in like, doggy-mode anyway because yeah NO. XD we need buttons that say "I destroyed Risa's life and I'm proud." Ahaha~

I'm so tired but I can't sleep so here's the next installment of this thing. I'm silently hoping it doesn't end up too long because I really do intend for this to be a shorter thing. So aiming for five parts. Enjoy~

Crimson, Part II

The dark-haired woman was staring quietly out of one of the castle's large glass windows, her expression neutral as she scanned the forest below for signs of life. It had been over a day now since her partner sent out her... "pet" on a retrieval mission, and there had been no word of the wolf's return yet. Not that she was worried, of course; she cared little about what happened to the beast. But if Aika didn't come back alive, their research would be sure to grind to a halt, perhaps even cease altogether; that was a thought she refused to entertain, particularly now as she and her partner were entering their fifth year of working on this project.

She was Michishige Sayumi and she was known simply as, in laymen's terms, a witch. Her affinity for magic began developing at a very early age, and was realized one day when she accidentally turned her younger brother into a toad. Fortunately, a traveling wizard happened to be passing through her hometown at the time and managed to rectify the problem before any real permanent damage was done, though afterwards on occasion she had caught her brother eyeing houseflies with rapt attention. The wizard had lectured her parents on how obvious it was that she needed training to gain control over her abilities, and within a month she was shipped off to the capital city to study magic at the Academy.

She easily surpassed her peers in skill and ability, and every year she ranked top of her class. Before long she was the one teaching others, and was frequently called upon by the royal family to aid in magical disputes, despite her young age.

That was where her partner came in. Tanaka Reina was a spitfire and recent graduate of one of the kingdom's most prestigious medical schools; a surgeon by trade, the girl was ambitious and fancied herself a scientist of sorts. Their first meeting ended in a shouting match that nearly evolved into a full-blown fist fight, simply because their ideologies were so wholly different from each other. Sayumi believed that magic was the solution to most of the world's problems while Reina put her stock in science.

An alliance between them would have never occurred naturally, but the two were referred by higher-ups in their respective fields and brought together for a very specific task: they were to use their talents to develop a cure for lycanthropy.

They set up their base of operations in the castle; an abandoned military fortress that had been converted into a trading outpost over the last several years. Reina had the dungeons converted into a laboratory of sorts, and together they spent countless hours of research and testing in it. Of course, finding specimens to use was the difficult part, as no werewolf would voluntarily offer themselves up, and neither she or Reina had the skills to capture the beasts. Primarily they relied on the service of the Red Knights, whose entire existence was based on slaying and enslaving the lycans, but even then it was rare that the Reds managed to bring a wolf back alive.

With Aika, they had been extraordinarily lucky. The kid had survived a lycan raid while sustaining major wounds, and managed to live through the painful process of the venom turning her into something less-than-human. Though Sayumi carried a distaste for the wolves in general, she had to admit that Aika's cooperation and willingness to submit to their trials was impressive--and she had no doubt many of the treatments were excruciatingly painful. The girl adored Reina more anyway, and followed the young scientist around the grounds like a puppy, probably because the woman treated her... well, like a human being.

But she's not.

Sayumi sighed, narrowing her eyes. Reina's bleeding heart was sure to cause them trouble someday...

"Have you seen her yet?"

A voice broke into her thoughts and Sayumi turned to see her partner standing at the doorway, looking as though she was trying hard not to be too hopeful. The elder of the two shook her head, turning back to glance outside as the other woman joined her at her side.

"I haven't seen the dog yet, no. It's still not been too incredibly long, though..."

"I told you, she's not 'dog' or 'pet' or 'slave,'" Reina replied with a huff as she bristled next to the witch, "Her name is Aika. And maybe you don't care, but it hurts her when you call her things like that. It's not like she chose this... It's a terrible curse and burden for her to bear."

Sayumi shrugged, tossing raven-colored locks back over her shoulders. Reina could scold all she wanted to, but it wouldn't change how she felt; a wolf was a wolf.

Suddenly the scientist jumped and pointed at something in the distance, and the witch followed her finger to spot what had been seen. A flash of crimson was racing against the snow, a tiny pinprick in the distance, and as it neared Sayumi realized it was a cloak; specifically, the signature trademark of a Red. The cloak's wearer was slung limply over Aika's back, and even from the tower the witch could tell the knight was badly injured.

Perhaps they'd be lucky again a second time.

In an instant, Reina darted out of the room with Sayumi on her heels, the duo descending from the tower as fast as their legs would carry. When they reached the main hall, the servants were already opening the giant wooden entrance, and Aika burst inside, scattering snow and dirt all over the floor. The exhausted girl was already returning to her human form, and Reina was there with a warm fluffy cloak to drape around the werewolf's shoulders, while Sayumi and the servants eased the unconscious knight to the ground.

"I... ran as fast as I could..." Aika panted, drawing the cloak tight around her bare skin. "She's still holding on to life, but she was horribly weak to begin with when I found her..."

"How ironic that it should be a knight..." Reina murmured to herself, allowing the younger girl to lean on her for support. Her eyes briefly settled on the knight's face, observing her features. The woman couldn't have been much older than herself, even.

"Are you sure she was bitten?" Sayumi asked from her knees, glancing up at the werewolf with an eyebrow raised.

"Positive. The venom is all over those wounds. And she was the only survivor for miles..."

"Either way..." Reina cut in quietly, "She's hurt and we need to treat her now or she won't make it through the night whether she's infected or not."

The scientist motioned to the servants to carry the knight, and then she made her way towards the dungeons, Sayumi and Aika trailing behind. She could only hope the girl was as much a fighter on the inside as she looked.

@Rndy: I thought you had died or something D: ehehe glad you're enjoying this tho, I'm certainly having fun writing it.

@KB: points to you for guessing Aika. ^^ XD Yeah Dr. Reina isn't a role I'd usually put her in but she's the ambitious type of person that excels in what she's passionate about so it works here. :3 Yeah Sayu has a thing about hating wolves. She'll come around eventually (I mean who can hate Aika, seriously). As for Gaki's fate... Read on!

@kjpop: So yeah I envisioned (with the help of the video above) like young Sayu + drunk headmaster Yuko or something and Yuko bein all "You're a wizard, Sayu." and Sayu all like what, no, you're insane. XD AND I DON'T KNOW, MAYBE? XD

I'm seriously considering moving this into the main section cuz... It's starting to run away from me oh noes~ Enjoy~

Crimson, Part III

"Put her on the table there," Reina motioned to the servants, who laid Risa out on a raised stone slab in the center of the room. The main area of the laboratory had once been the dungeon's torture chamber, a fact that never failed to set the scientist on edge whenever she set foot inside. Though it had been completely gutted and refashioned with the proper equipment and looked nothing like its previous incarnation, the atmosphere always seemed a bit oppressive, and Aika complained of hearing faint screams now and then. Reina attributed this to the unending mysteries behind lycanthropy, and had long since ceased to doubt the younger girl's claims...

Impatiently dismissing the servants with her hand, the impulsive young woman hovered over the table, able to see her patient more clearly now under the lights--strange orbs that were some trick of Sayumi's, intended to hover around anyone who entered the room.

"Help me get her armor and clothing off."

Aika obediently moved to begin undoing the knight's boots, and Reina shot a pointed glance at Sayumi, who stood off to the side with her arms crossed.

"She's bleeding all over the place," The witch stated dryly, making it obvious she wasn't about to lift a finger. "I don't do blood."

Reina snorted, biting back the urge to comment that there wasn't much Sayumi did do other than make her life difficult. Soon she and the werewolf had rid the knight of all barriers, and the scientist winced at the sight of the deep wounds on the woman's shoulder. Lycan fangs could crush metal like dead autumn leaves, and the venom they transmitted was extremely potent and nine times out of ten, fatal. If a human wasn't ripped to shreds during an attack, the poison was sure to kill them. Rarely was a person fortunate enough to be consumed by the curse instead.

"She's got a great body, though~"

The scientist scowled at her partner's words, quickly draping a white sheet over Risa's body.

"Pervert," She hissed, though she couldn't control the way her face heated up at the words, "Make yourself useful and conjure up some water, will ya?"

Sayumi smirked devilishly, but complied nevertheless, murmuring words in an ancient tongue, drawing water from the air to coalesce into a sphere that hovered in between her hands. This Reina passed pieces of cloth through and used them to clean Risa's wounds. As she worked, she realized Aika was shifting uncomfortably at her side, and the scientist looked to see that the werewolf was fidgeting with the collar about her neck, fingers recoiling in pain each time they accidentally brushed against the silver bits.

"It's about time we built you a new one, I think," Reina commented, nodding at the device, "You've outgrown the last three so fast..."

"I don't like it," Aika whimpered, "It burns and it chokes me when I transform..."

"It's a symbol of your rightful place," Sayumi cut in, shooting Reina a sharp glare before the scientist could attempt to comfort the younger girl, "Without that collar, the knights would cut you down on sight. You should be grateful you've been afforded the distinction."

The scientist whirled to face the witch, prepared to give her a sharp tongue-lashing, when the girl on the table moved, a light groan escaping her lips. The trio gathered closer around the knight, each with varying degrees of shock on their faces.

"Impossible- an attack like that..." Reina's eyes shot to the wound on Risa's shoulder, and watched in bewilderment as the edges of skin began to slowly stitch themselves back together of their own accord.

"Proves your theory that the venom affects everyone differently." Sayumi replied, curiously watching the wound as well.

So focused were the two that they realized too late that Risa's eyes were beginning to open, the irises colored a deep amber-gold. But Aika's focus never left the knight, and as soon as the woman lunged for Reina, the werewolf shifted, snarling and pinning Risa to the table with her massive paws.

The knight struggled against Aika, a growl of her own escaping her mouth as she stared the wolf down. Reina watched in a mixture of horror and fascination as the woman spit blood and teeth from her mouth, sharp canines quickly moving to fill in the gaps. She'd watched Aika transform many times, but this was the first time for her to witness the venom taking hold of a victim.

"Sayu!" Her worried shout snapped the witch out of her own fear, and Sayumi uttered a spell that caused the chains dangling at the corners of the table to spring to life. The chains wound themselves tightly around Risa's limbs, binding her to the stone slab. But soon they would be completely ineffective, and Aika was not exactly the strongest representative for her kind.

As the knight convulsed and writhed against the chains, Reina darted to the other side of the room, fumbling with a pouch attached to her waist. Eventually she managed to produce a key from it, and the scientist knelt down beside a small wooden chest, quickly unlocking it. Inside lay a single item: an intricately carved amulet with a blood-red stone set into it, attached to a delicate golden chain. The stone glowed faintly when she reached in to grab it, the result of some ten months of magical endowment by Sayumi.

When she returned to the table, prepared to slip the amulet around Risa's neck, the witch's hand shot out to stop her.

"It's not safe." Sayumi hissed, "The incantations aren't yet complete- we have no way of knowing what it'll do to her."

"We don't have time to test it," Reina replied firmly, yanking her arm free, "And in minutes we're going to have a very angry newborn lycan on our hands. Unless you have a better idea, we have little choice."

The witch relented, stepping out of her partner's way as she moved forward again, pulling the amulet over Risa's head. As soon as the stone touched the knight's skin, it shone more fiercely, and the woman fell limp against the table, unconscious once more.

A heavy silence fell on the room, neither the witch or the scientist able to speak, and a few moments passed before Aika relaxed enough to shift back into human form. The young werewolf peered curiously at the amulet, its crimson glow reflecting in her eyes.

"Is she dead?" Aika questioned, reaching a hand out tentatively as if to touch the stone. Reina quickly pushed her away.

"No. Not dead. But you might be if you touch that." The scientist warned, still tense from what could have happened.

"What... is it?"

"Think of it as an inhibitor of sorts..." Sayumi offered lazily, her demeanor the polar opposite to Reina's edge, "It's meant to keep the venom from spreading throughout her body. I assumed it would need much more preparation than this but even I surprise myself with how good I am at magic sometimes~"

"I don't think it's stopped it completely," The scientist started, hovering over Risa once again, "Her wounds are still regenerating, and her body temperature definitely exceeds that of a normal human being."

It wasn't even close to a cure, but perhaps it would buy them some time. Working with Aika had been all but fruitless, as the curse had overtaken her system so completely that it was completely resistant to anything she and Sayumi tried. But the knight was in a limbo stage of sorts now, and there was a chance they could cure her before she turned. It gave Reina hope that their research hadn't been in vain.

"So what do we do now?" Sayumi asked, growing impatient.

"We wait until she wakes up. I don't feel comfortable doing anything until we've at least asked her about it first..."

The witch rolled her eyes.

"You know we have to carry out the experiments whether she agrees or not."

"I don't care, I still want a chance to explain everything first."

Sayumi threw up her hands, shaking her head as she turned on her heel to exit the room.

"Fine, but I'm having a collar made in the meantime. ...I'll get another one made for you as well, dog."

Reina scowled as the witch insulted the young werewolf yet again, but Aika simply smiled and nodded her head.

"Thank you, Michishige-san..."

"Whatever."

And then she was gone, much to Reina's relief. Sayumi was intelligent and extraordinarily talented but they'd never once ceased to get under the other's skin. How Aika managed to greet her with a smile everyday was beyond the scientist's understanding. Reina sighed, running a hand through her hair as she gathered her thoughts.

"I need you to watch her. And let me know as soon as she wakes up." Reina turned to Aika, earning a nod from her companion, "I don't know if the amulet will suppress her emotions, and though she hasn't turned, I want you there with me just in case."

"Of course." She didn't need to ask. There was simply no way Aika was about to leave the person she considered as good as blood alone with a potential threat.

It would be another three days before Risa finally woke up.

Wow this came out weird. KB, feel free to hate this XD what is characterization, seriously, I don't think I understand Erina at all. But I tried! XD

Also there will probably be two more of these because all my feels for Reina and Masaki. And Sayu and Mizupon. XD

I know I have other things to write and I'm way behind on commenting, forgive me. I'm not the happiest right now so sweet little oneshots are all I'm capable of atm, I think T.T

Senpai Series #1 - Gakipon (Takagaki)

It was always in the back of her mind that she could never hope to compete with Ai. But that didn't stop Erina from loving Risa with all of the passion her 14-year-old heart could muster. She wasn't sure at what point her fanatic devotion had developed into a crush--the one time she mentioned love at first sight, Riho simply gave her a look and walked away, Kanon laughed, and Mizuki tried to placate her with an apologetic smile.

Her senpais had noticed even before she realized it herself.

"I've seen that look," Reina mentioned casually after one rehearsal, standing next to Sayumi where she thought they were out of earshot of the 9ki girl, "Should I go ahead and break her heart now, or...?"

This was followed by a bout of bickering between the generation-mates, and the last thing Erina heard before slipping away was Sayumi lecturing Reina on how to properly treat the younger members. Later that week, though, the duo had set her down to calmly explain the way things worked.

"It's very sweet that you're so devoted to Gaki-san, but..."

"Risa and Ai are like, soulmates, kid." The yankii interjected, twirling her keys on her finger, "You don't get in between soulmates. It's trying to stop two trains before a head-on collision with your bare hands; they're gonna be together no matter what you do and you end up roadkill."

Sayumi shot her partner a withering glare, prompting Reina to add:

"Um, we care about you, so we're just telling you so you don't get hurt."

And Erina quietly accepted this fact, much as she desperately wanted not to believe it. At least, she was forced to accept it after being in the wrong place at the wrong time meant her stumbling upon the two aforementioned women locked in a heated kiss backstage. But knowing beforehand didn't in any way lessen the sting of her heartache--that, unfortunately, hurts just as much at 14 as it does at 40.

Jealousy sparked inside of her every time she saw her leader from that point on, and she noticed all of the subtleties that passed between Risa and Ai that she thought herself completely stupid for not having seen it before. Problem was, it was entirely too difficult to hate Ai. Ai, who was aloof but exceedingly kind and charismatic and did everything with such skill it seemed effortless.

It would have been easier if she could hate Ai.

But Erina didn't have it in her to hate anyone, really, and so she settled for quiet brooding when the cameras were off and she thought no one was watching her.

"You say you think you love her, right?" The sound of Mizuki's voice made the KY jump slightly, but she settled comfortably back against the wall as her generation-mate sat down beside her. Erina returned her gaze to Risa, who was helping one of the still-unannounced 10kis with the dance.

"I do love her," Erina responded firmly.

"You've got a funny way of showing it, sulking like you've been doing lately."

The younger of the two blinked, glancing over at her friend. It was a bit of a slap to hear the words out loud, but she knew she shouldn't be surprised by Mizuki's perceptiveness.

"What am I supposed to do? She has Takahashi-san... She'll never see me as anything more than a weird, obsessive junior..." Erina trailed off, chewing on her lower lip as she watched Risa spare a glance towards Ai, who grinned softly in response.

"Well, what would you do if she loved you back?"

The KY considered this idea briefly; she'd never actually seriously followed that train of thought to its conclusion, Reina's metaphor about soulmates always managing to derail her.

"Anything to make her happy," she managed after a moment, sighing.

"So what's stopping you from doing that now?" Mizuki questioned, continuing when her friend gave her a confused look, "If you love her, I mean, you would just do that stuff anyway, right? And who knows, maybe in a few years she won't be with Takahashi-san anymore and she'll look back and remember all the things you did and you could have your chance then. Either way, doesn't making her happy make you happy when all is said and done?"

She was right. Watching Risa's face light up with a smile or a laugh was the best thing in the world. Being the one to cause said smile or laugh... those were the moments Erina believed in heaven. Without warning, the younger girl hopped to her feet and darted towards her beloved senpai, nearly knocking over Riho and Kanon as they approached.

"Niigaki-san," She breathed eagerly, skidding to a halt in front of the subleader, "I can help if you want to take a break for a while."

Risa blinked, sidestepping as one of the 10kis--Masaki, was it? Erina couldn't quite remember--stumbled over her own feet.

"I'm not so sure, Eripon, they still need a lot of work-"

"I know the routine, Niigaki-san," Erina cut in confidently, "Just so you can take a short break; you haven't had one yet today."

The subleader blinked again, seeming more impressed than confused the second time, and she smiled, reaching forward to ruffle the other girl's hair.

"Alright. Just for a moment. Thanks for looking out for me." Risa winked, and Erina thought her heart might melt at that alone, not even caring when the subleader walked past her to join her lover in the corner.

Even if Risa never loved her back the same way, Erina would be devoted to her forever.

Because it's worth it, just to see you smile.

@KB: -huggles back- no worries :3

@Rini: ^^ well, thanks. I struggle w characters like her, probably because they're so lovable and I mostly only understand angst and sexy times XD and ahahaha now I can't unsee that sentence... Mizuki seems the type to be wise beyond her years in my opinion. Or at least the kind of person that can easily identify other people's problems and offer good advice. Thanks for your support and love~ I read "stalk you" as "stab you" btw and I was so terrified XDDD

@Rndy: yay bittersweet~ let's write more bittersweet things all over the place~ XD jk this next one is mostly just cute.

@risa_ai: isn't she though? :)

@arisa03: Yeah, that's why it was kinda hard to make her too jealous, since it's obvious she loves/respects Ai too. -gathers up your feels in a bucket and hands you a tissue- ^^

@maikeatoot: haha no prob! I think they're cute I just have zero experience with the 9/10kis so I'm trying to branch out a bit. :)

Next up, Reina and Masaki. I seriously need to do more research on the kids... But yeah, All the pics of these two are totes adorbs, all my feels~ I had to write something. Also included one of my favorite pairings of late that I haven't really written due to Tanagaki invasion XD enjoy?

Senpai Series #2: ReiSaki (Tanashige)

Masaki was overwhelmed with a crippling sense of anxiety. Ai's graduation was only weeks away and she felt like her generation-mates were leaps and bounds ahead of her as far as the routine was concerned. She had no experience in dancing, and felt a bit like a kid thrown into the water for the first time and being told to swim.

The singing on its own wasn't too terribly hard; but she hadn't anticipated just how difficult it was to sing after jumping around for hours on end. By that point she was so exhausted that she could only focus on keeping upright, and then she'd forget the lyrics to the song.

Thus, for the third time during rehearsal today, she found herself being pulled aside by her senpais to be scolded for not paying attention. Masaki endured this, smiling nervously and fidgeting with her hands, knowing that she would have to find some way to compensate. Her fellow 10kis were of little comfort; they were still unused to each other, and while Haruka whispered encouragement as she rejoined the formation, Masaki could not shake the feeling that she was going to fail.

Masaki didn't want to fail. In fact, despite her easygoing nature, she desperately wanted to get things right. Not necessarily for herself, but for the people who were expecting her to succeed, like her mother, and for those who were counting on her, like the other members.

Eventually, the dance coach called it a day, and she sank to the floor to catch her breath while the other girls began chatting and getting ready to leave. Soon, she was one of the few that lingered in the studio, and Masaki looked up when she realized she was being stared at.

Reina hovered over the 10ki like a wolf, studying her with sharp wonky eyes, and Masaki had the sense to at least flinch a little bit. The older girl hadn't ever said much to her directly, but she wasn't known for her kindness, and the younger girl braced herself for more scolding.

"Come on, get up."

Masaki blinked as Reina offered her her hand, very nearly thrown off balance as the yankii roughly pulled her to her feet. But instead of the lecture she expected, the older woman stood beside her, facing the mirror.

"I've been watching you," Reina stated quietly, "That move, the one you keep screwing up..."

The younger girl watched as the yankii demonstrated the step in question, slowly at first, breaking it down so that Masaki could understand. Stunned that it wasn't nearly as hard as she thought, Masaki wordlessly mimicked her senior's moves, her confidence rising when Reina stepped aside to let her do it on her own, clapping the beat.

When she managed to do it up to tempo, Masaki almost cried for joy, hopping up and down with excitement.

"Tanaka-san, thank you so much! How did you know what to show me? Every time the coach did it, it didn't make sense to me..."

Reina allowed herself a confident smirk.

"I've been around a while, you know. I've learned a thing or two. And also, before rehearsal next time, come find me. I don't think you're stretching properly, which is why you're tiring out so quickly... Someone your age should have more energy at the end of rehearsals."

It was probably a statement that any of the other girls would have taken personally, but all Masaki was hearing was that Reina was going to help her. And if Reina was helping her, then she surely would manage to catch up to the others. A surge of affection welled up within her for the older girl, and having not yet developed the sense of self-preservation that kept every other Musume from invading the yankii's bubble, Masaki pounced on Reina.

She nearly knocked the older girl over, so fierce and surprising was her attack, but Reina managed to stay upright, mind slowly processing what was happening. This was a hug. Someone was hugging her. She had not initiated. She'd not given permission. There was no prior familiarity.

Someone had to die.

And yet as Masaki snuggled into her, she couldn't help but feel her heart melting a little bit; the girl seemed so grateful and so genuinely happy. Some long buried instinct moved her to awkwardly return the hug, and she patted her junior on the head. Maybe just this once. As long as it didn't become a habit or anything.

"Alright, alright, get your stuff and go home and rest; let's work hard from now on, okay?"

Masaki beamed up at her senpai and nodded, obediently scampering off to do as she was told. Reina chuckled, shaking her head and moving to retrieve her own bag. She didn't notice as quiet footsteps padded up behind her, jumping as she found herself wrapped in an embrace for the second time that day.

"That girl has to be either the dumbest or bravest member we've ever had." The yankii let out a content sigh at the sound of the familiar voice, leaning back into the arms that held her. Her lover was surprised by her easy compliance, and grinned as she lightly kissed the tip of one of Reina's ears. "...Or you're going soft."

"Maybe a bit of both." The yankii agreed, turning around in the older girl's arms so that she could face her. Sayumi quirked an eyebrow in response.

"It doesn't bother you?"

"Should it? I'm getting older, after all." Reina shrugged, "And besides..."

She leaned forward, close enough for her breath to flutter across Sayumi's lips but not enough to touch.

"I can still be bad for you."

The bunny shivered at her lover's words, paralyzed as the girl grinned deviously at her, walking away. A devilish smirk spread on her face and Sayumi immediately gave chase, shoving Reina into the nearest empty room, where they engaged in a private dance lesson of their own.

nuuuuuuuu I would never stab Fimmeh~  :deco:

Quote
"I've been watching you," Reina stated quietly
Even if Masaki was expecting a scolding...hearing this from a scary senpai is pretty scary on it's own...and creepy :O  "I've been watching you...if you know what I mean." xD

She nearly knocked the older girl over, so fierce and surprising was her attack, but Reina managed to stay upright, mind slowly processing what was happening. This was a hug. Someone was hugging her. She had not initiated. She'd not given permission. There was no prior familiarity.

Someone had to die.
:on freeze: ....run away!!!  :panic:

Despite how much of a Masaki fan that I'm not...she's pretty darn cute~  And she's turning Reina into a pile of marshmallow fluff :3  All these pictures, clips, blog entries, and your fic....the cuteness is so overwhelming {; A ;}

and then enters TanaShige love time  :shocked

Love it.  I simply loved it  :thumbup :cathappy:

Might return to the Senpai Series in the future as I do want to write something with Sayu, but I've got something different for a change. Random oneshot that I just really felt I needed to write. It's maybe a bit too personal but it was cathartic and I'm glad it's off my chest now. As for the "pairing" I intended it to be more of a friendship but you can choose to see it how you wish lol Sorry for the slight angst.

Canvas

Violet streaks across the canvas like a flower blooming at high-speed, petals of color bursting out from where the paint hits solid surface. This mark is cut by an angry swath of crimson, pooling in its center like blood from a gunshot wound; what color follows next is likely black but I'm too far lost in the motions to notice at this point. These moods I get in swallow me whole, and I can't do anything but succumb; I dip my fingers back into the paint and continue my assault, driven to rid myself of these emotions.

"Christ, will you calm down?"

A soft voice breaks my concentration a bit, and I glance sideways at my studio-mate, knowing by the way her eyes go wide that mine must look crazy. She seems to wither a bit.

"I'm just saying... You keep splattering me with paint and what you're doing is starting to look like some abstract representation of a bombed-out city..."

How fitting. It sounds like the state of my heart. I apologize quietly to her and watch as she puts her headphones back in before returning my attention to my own work. We're the only two in the studio today and even though I know deep down she understands, I move my canvas about a foot away from her; she's the only friend I have in this goddamned city after all.

I continue my self-therapy. My knuckles collide with the taut fabric, and I drag my fingers slowly down its length, leaving behind slick trails of ragged blue.

Loneliness burns through me like alcohol chasing away pain and settles hollow in my stomach with a thud. It is the first time I allow myself to truly feel it after what I've done and I keep making methodical passes at the canvas if only to remain calm. I switch to a deep maroon, but I can't handle the color for very long: I acknowledge the loss, but my fragile mind isn't yet ready to mourn without completely unraveling.

"How long are you gonna pretend you're okay?"

She's watching me again, the tip of her brush poised delicately at the top of her own canvas. The outline of a city has begun to appear, and I think--not for the first time since I've met her--that she has so much more talent than I.

"Until I actually am okay." My voice rings foreign in my ears, unusually subdued.

I don't want to talk to her about this. I just want to detox from these thoughts and get them out on paper. The paint on my canvas is starting to run, leaving small multi-colored trails behind before it collects in a rusty mess at the bottom. I pick it up and turn it on its side, slamming it hard against the table so that the paint is forced to change direction, sharp streaks scattering across the plane.

"You haven't been sleeping, have you?"

She just really can't take a hint. A sigh forces its way out of my nose.

"I don't sleep much anyway."

"What you need to do is go out and run or something until your body is physically exhausted. Then you'll sleep."

"Know what I want to do?"

"Mm?"

I lift the canvas from the easel and settle down onto the floor in front of her, leaning back against her knees. I don't care if it's dusty and there's paint everywhere, and I don't care if she's gotten a bit of it in my hair as she reaches down to gently stroke it. The contact is enough to bring me a step out of my madness.

As I prop the canvas up in my lap to look at it, I immediately decide to throw it out when I leave; it really does look like a city in flames, and that's not exactly something I want to keep.

"I kind of just want to die..." I reply, scraping my fingers across the still-wet surface to further mar the image.

"But you won't," She says to me firmly, tugging on my hair a bit so that I'm forced to tilt my head back to glance up at her, "Because you're better than that. You're stronger than that."

I crack a smile at that; it's one of those fake reflexive kinds because I'm the type of person that laughs when I'm nervous.

"Sure. It just takes time, right?"

Her smile when she nods at me is sincere, and I almost feel bad for faking mine. I don't have the heart to tell her that I don't think the reason I keep on living isn't because I'm strong. I actually think its because I'm a coward, because I would never be brave enough to just completely lose my will to live. I'm still human enough that my survival instincts kick in.

But for a moment a spark of something flickers inside of me at her words and I believe her, if only for a second. Maybe I am better than this, worth more than this, more than the way I'm treating myself. Maybe I'm stronger than I give myself credit for. Maybe.

I'm actually too tired now to even feel the stuff I came in here to get rid of, so when she leans down to pull the canvas out of my hands, I don't resist much. I just keep leaning back against her legs, lighter somehow, and I feel all that sleep I've been missing lately start to catch up with me.

"Feeling better?" She asks at some point before I drift completely away.

"It's a start." I reply truthfully. Maybe I will go for a run or something later. "Hey Aichan?"

"Mm?"

"Throw that away for me, will you?"

"I'll take care of it, Reina. Sleep."

And so I do, finding a brief moment of peace there on the studio floor, with paint drying on my hands and she my silent guardian.

I know when I wake up, it's time to move on.

This is purely magnificent.

Yes, I know that actually sounds cruel considering the situation.

But the raw honesty used to describe every single detail expressing her sorrow is a work of art.

You've got a way with words Fim-san. It's a great therapy for both the writer and the reader.

Keep it up and don't lose that magic touch!  :thumbup

Always good to let it all out =] Change is different, but change is fantastic ^__^

I quite liked it. It's good to see that Reina has Ai to keep her grounded, make sense out of things. I think I'm alone in this, but I love how things are relatively vague and up in the air. The unnecessary baggage that comes with the explanation of details is something you avoid wonderfully, and the lack of concrete closure is excellent!

Love the senpai series, and I'd love to see what you have in mind for Sayu, but I can also wait forever ahha Write whenever you can <3

Thanks for all your kind comments, everyone. :) That was essentially a moment from my semester in the UK, with a few small changes, of course. Being that it's so personal, there isn't exactly a part two as I like the vagueness of it and I really just wrote it for therapeutic reasons. However, I did come up with the urge to write about another 'snapshot' of my time there and might do a few more of these if I feel I need to. They probably won't be in chronological order either, though the way they're written, I don't think it's necessary. :)

Sculpture Garden

"I'm tired."

"We've only just started walking, you know."

She barely spares me a glance over that gigantic camera lens, aiming it at the huge steel sculpture twisting over our heads. It looks a bit like a tree the way it's anchored to the ground like that, and it doesn't interest me much outside of the way it catches the light. I snap a picture of it as well, though, if only to placate my mother's desire for me to document every moment of my travels.

Ai, on the other hand, stares at it in fascination, as always seeing something there that I don't. I decide to give her a moment, turning to stare down at the path ahead.

The sun is out for the first time since I've been here, allowing me to see clearly the hills off in the distance; they're colored a deep green that seems so foreign to me, so different from the grass back home. Instinctively I think this should alarm me, make me feel homesick--but it doesn't. The wind ruffles my hair and for a moment I feel quiet, peaceful. I don't even realize that Ai is next to me until she speaks.

"Shall we?"

We continue on, following the trail to pass by some dozen other sculptures up ahead. Every so often we encounter other students from our group, but nobody stops to acknowledge us. They think we're strange, still too new, and besides that have also decided we must be a couple due to the way we stick to each other. It's not true, of course, but I don't care enough to bother correcting them every time. I don't think Ai cares either.

Ai needs me after all. I'm not the only one who ran off to another country to recover, anyway. If I weren't around, the poor girl probably wouldn't get out and do anything.

At some point we make it out onto an open field, and I flop down onto a large rock nearby, shielding my eyes from the sun. I love the outdoors but having to match this woman's pace is exhausting, especially after walking several miles already. And there she goes again, scampering towards a tower of steel blocks; I can hear the camera clicking all the way over here. I sigh to myself, stretching out on the rock and halfway hoping she'll forget I'm here so I can take a short nap.

This place is so much better than the city, and the air tastes fresher than I thought it could ever be. I contemplate what it would be like if I just stay here and never go home, what it would be like to be a hermit living in these hills.

The dream is short-lived. Ai's sudden shriek jolts me up onto my feet, eyes frantically searching for my friend. When I find her, I can't help but laugh.

She must have gotten distracted taking pictures, because the short-haired woman is surrounded by a flock of sheep, ambling about her to get at the tender grass around her feet. In the midst of this, Ai stands frozen with fear, but the sheep pay her and her screaming little attention.

I suddenly feel like a kid, bounding off the rock and flying towards her at high speed, causing some of the sheep to scatter. Gleefully I shout at them, driving them away from her, my energy suddenly restored. Once I feel like I've scared them enough, I turn and set my sights on Ai, whose relief shifts quickly into panic.

"No- the cameras! Don't you dare!"

But I'm in too much of a mischievous mood to stop, and I chase after her, pausing only to carefully set down my camera beside hers as she flees. Ai's much faster than I am, of course; she doesn't try too hard to stay ahead of me, and I try way too hard to catch her.

At some point I trip on the slick grass and fall, right into the mud. This is the kind of thing that should make me angry, because my clothes are ruined and my hair's now a mess, but instead I just roll over and start laughing. Ai trots back to me in bewilderment, as if she also expects some kind of explosion soon, but after a while she just shakes her head and smiles at me.

"I don't understand you at all. I've seen you go on a rampage for much less than this..."

"I don't understand me either," I reply, grabbing a handful of grass in my fist before letting it float away in the wind, "I'm happy here."

"I know."

She bends down to help me up, brushes me off as best as she can manage--like a doting mother. At one point she stops and gently brushes a bit of mud off of my cheek with her thumb.

"I like it when you're happy, Reina."

I smile for her, a genuine one because we're alone and I trust her. I probably would have let her hug me too, except we both have issues with hugs and the silent space between us is perfect enough.

We wander quietly back to where we left the cameras, and I realize that I'm not really tired anymore.

Slowly narrowing down my to-do list~

Senpai Series #3: SayuRiho (Tanashige)

Sayumi could feel the glare burning into her shoulder without even needing to turn around, and though it was not wise to ignore her cat-like lover for any length of time, she was too fixated on her prey at the moment. The 9kis were receiving additional instruction for the upcoming concert, and she was watching them from the side--Riho in particular--like a hawk.

"Sayu," Reina began, irritated after she realized the leader wasn't going to face her, "You were supposed to meet me for lunch half an hour ago. We don't have a lot of time together this week, you know..."

The bunny gave a short grunt in response, distracted as her target gave a slight, incredibly cute yawn. She was oblivious to the way Reina was bristling behind her, and was saved from a jealous swat to the arm by the sudden arrival of Haruka and Masaki. The latter launched herself at the youngest rokkie and clung to her like a baby koala, while Haruka stood next to her favored senpai in much more reserved admiration.

"Tanaka-saaaan~" Masaki squealed, happily ignoring the way the yankii struggled to hold her weight, "We're so bored..."

"I'm not your mom, what do you want me to do about it?" Reina growled, though her anger was quickly being subdued in the younger members' presence. Sayumi had finally torn herself away from watching Riho to take in the scene and she couldn't help but shoot Reina a smirk that said, 'You may as well be.'

The yankii responded with a glare that said, 'Fuck you.'

"Take us to find some treats?" Haruka suggested hopefully, her cute, pleading babyface too much for the kitten's already Masaki-weakened defenses. Reina sighed.

"Fine. Since someone--who will be sleeping on the floor tonight, might I add--skipped out on lunch with me, I might as well."

Sayumi paled, realizing her mistake, but before she could say anything, the yankii scowled and turned on her heel with Masaki still attached to her side. She could faintly hear something about "...Mama makes Papa do that when she's mad at him too..." as they wandered away, and she sighed, glancing at Haruka. The youngest member gave her a knowing, almost apologetic look before scampering off in the direction of the others.

She mentally berated herself for not paying good attention to her girlfriend. Every time she thought she'd managed to balance out the leader thing with love and her other interests, something would tip the scale and she had to scramble to set things right again. Sure, she was maybe a bit... obsessed with the younger members. But not in the way that everyone liked to tease her for.

Truth be told, Sayumi almost wished she could be them. They were cute and young and full of energy, and while she wasn't exactly a relic herself or anything, little things kept popping up to remind her of her age. Like how she could be completely exhausted after a rehearsal and yet the younger members acted as though it was nothing, or the way her once-favorite hairstyles--instead of making her look young--now just made her seem a bit creepy.

Hanging around the kids was like a breath of fresh air, a way to grab hold of that energy she'd once had. She watched them to pick up on what was considered to be cute, in the hopes that it would rub off on her. And they were just so darn adorable, too.

She couldn't tell Reina any of this--the yankii was sure to tell her she was an idiot, that she loved her the way she was, cute or not and to just be herself. But Sayumi wasn't sure she could just let go of that image. To truly just be an adult, the thought terrified her.

And yet, on the opposite end, she was realizing other things about herself as well, other reasons for being so drawn to the younger members. She had watched so many of her senpai marry and have kids... now more than ever did the same desire tug at the back of her mind, scared as she was to grow up. Did she want that with Reina? Or better yet, was it possible the yankii wanted it with her? Maybe. She hoped so; she couldn't deny that she'd imagined kids of their own in the place of the younger members whenever Masaki and Haruka hung around Reina, and found the image surprisingly pleasant.

She sighed again. Maybe she was being stupid.

"Michishige-san?" The leader was broken from her thoughts by Ayumi and Haruna, the two having wandered up to her curiously in the midst of their search for their generation-mates. The 10ki ace was watching her with a mixture of concern and hesitation--likely to flee if her leader went hug-mode, and Haruna looked as if she might swoon.

"What is it?"

"Ah, well, you looked so..." Daishi struggled a bit, as if she was having trouble associating Sayumi and the word she was about to say in the same headspace, "...serious."

"Oh," Sayumi quickly recovered for the sake of her kouhai, flashing the duo a brilliant smile, "It's nothing to worry about, I promise. If you're looking for Maachan and Haruka-chan, they just took off that way with Reina."

"Okay..." Ayumi replied slowly, her wariness apparent as she inched of range of the leader. Haruna was still in a daze, mumbling something like, "...Michishige-san... So cute..." but she was easily swept away by her generation-mate, leaving Sayumi alone with her thoughts again. At least until she heard the dance coach mention something about the 9kis getting a break.

Instantly her gaze homed in on Riho, who shot up straight as if the little Sayu-radar-warning-siren in her head was going off. The 9ki ace took off like a bullet, leaving a confused Kanon in her wake, the younger girl realizing what was going on too late to avoid being barreled over by her leader. Sayumi would be undeterred, however, and she muttered a quick apology before racing after her target.

"It's amazing how suddenly athletic she gets when Riho-chan's involved..." Mizuki mused, watching quietly as Erina helped Kanon back to her feet.

"Why is it always me...?" The youngest whined.

"You should have learned by now not to come between them..."

"Mou~ I miss Takahashi-san..."

"What about Niigaki-san?! ...ow! Hey!"

"You're just as bad as Michishige-san!"

----------

"The others all think you're weird, you know," Riho started quietly, kicking her feet a bit as they dangled over the edge of the roof, "Except maybe Maachan, but I think she might literally just love everyone..."

Sayumi shrugged, leaning back on her hands to look up at the sky. This was routine for them; the leader would chase Riho through the building until they ended up on the roof, which had been determined a neutral, no-hugging zone. Every time Sayumi failed to catch the girl, but she never gave up, and enjoyed their quiet talks anyway. And though Riho would never admit it out loud, she was growing fond of the bunny leader, and was almost tempted to throw the game every now and then.

Almost.

"Let them think what they want. You don't get talked about in the idol world for being normal, after all."

"I suppose that's true..."

"Besides, it's sort of embarrassing, really." Sayumi continued, drawing her knees up to her chest, her sudden change in tone causing Riho to look over at her, "No offense or anything but... It probably looks really bad for me as leader to be secretly relying so much on a 14-year-old kid."

It was true, Sayumi had opened up to Riho about a great deal of things since she'd become leader, for reasons the younger girl couldn't possibly imagine. She never questioned it, though; for one thing it made her feel incredibly important and responsible that the leader trusted her so much. Even if all she really did was listen.

"From the beginning, nobody thought I could do this, you know? Not even Reina... But at least she wanted me to succeed, I guess. Even now I think some people are holding their breath, waiting for me to mess up so they can start with all their 'I told you so's'."

"I think you've done well..." Riho murmured, "Everyone seems pretty happy."

Sayumi grinned, brushing the dust off of her skirt as she rose to her feet.

"It's starting to feel like a family again."

The younger girl blinked quietly up at her leader, unsure of what she meant. She took Sayumi's hand anyway, hopping up on her feet and mimicking the older female's previous actions. It really wasn't her place to give the woman any advice, Riho thought, chewing hesitantly on her bottom lip. And yet, if she didn't say anything, who would? Takahashi-san, Niigaki-san, and Mitsui-san were gone, after all.

"You should talk to Tanaka-san about all of this." Riho blurted out awkwardly after a moment of silence, "I think that... She's been worried about you and if you talked to her then she'd feel better... And I think you would feel better too..."

Sayumi's shocked expression almost made the young ace regret having said anything, but the bunny soon smiled, sheepishly rubbing her arm.

"You're probably right. Thanks, RihoRiho."

An affectionate hair ruffle accompanied the annoying-but-endearing nickname, and the young ace watched as her leader began to walk back inside. Something came over Riho suddenly, and before her rational mind could process it, she had scampered after the older girl and flung her arms about Sayumi's waist from behind in a tight hug.

The bunny for her part, was so startled that she very nearly toppled over. After she got over her shock however, she grinned widely and stood perfectly still as though afraid moving would scare Riho off and thus end the perfect moment.

"I thought this was a no-hugging zone?"

"It is." The younger girl muttered into her back, blushing slightly.

Somewhere down below, in one of the lower levels of the building, Reina thought she could hear the distinct sound of her girlfriend's voice as it screeched the words "SO CUTE~!" to the heavens. She scowled, sighed, and very calmly rose amidst the 10ki chatter to go and collect her lover before Riho died of intense fangirling.

Guys sometimes I try to write things that I'm way behind on but then I end up writing things that have nothing to do with those things. These things are sappy and you can ignore me or judge me all you want, idgaf. :P XD There's no specific pairing. (I mean I have one in mind, but you can use your imaginations~) Might write something else in the same vein, who knows X3 Enjoy.

The Yankii Monologues: Morning

I hate mornings. And not in the way that people abuse the word "hate" like they abuse the word "love," where what they really mean is that they strongly dislike mornings, no, let's go ahead and define my use of the word properly. I have an intense and passionate dislike and a strong aversion to mornings.

This is just one of those facts that is so true about me, so very ingrained into every single strand of DNA that I possess, that every person I have lived with either figures it out quickly or suffers through my silent wrath until they wise up and learn to avoid me until well past noon. Or at least until after I've had a cup of coffee.

I know you're sitting there wondering, 'Man, what kinda messed up does a girl have to be to hate the colors of the sky as the sun breaks the horizon, or the gentle sounds of birds chirping in response to an early mist? Reina, what the hell did mornings ever do to you?' And I would tell you that that kind of thinking is likely fair, that those things are probably beautiful and if you like them then heaven forbid I keep you from enjoying them.

But what I know is that every morning, the sun and those stupid birds rip me from my sleep like a baby that's just been ejected from the warm comfort of its mother's womb, forced to breathe in air for the first time and surrounded by blue scrubs and gloved hands. Yes, my friends, I just compared waking up to the miracle of birth.

Some of you still don't get it at this point, though. Because I just said the word 'baby' and you conjured up images of cute, little wriggling bundles of joy and you're now wearing the same stupid subdued look everyone gets when they think of babies or puppies. Reina, however, is talking about the way babies look when they're freshly born, bloody and sticky and screaming; that's how she feels when she wakes up. Kind of. More or less.

Because I like sleeping. It's the closest thing to escaping from this world a person can get without literally taking themselves out of it. Whatever worries I have at night disappear the second I slip away into the arms of unconsciousness, and even when I have nightmares there's always that fuzzy dream haze that covers every thing and somehow I still know nothing's real. And nightmares tend to be more entertaining than my real problems anyway.

When I wake up, there's that brief moment of being completely disoriented; I forget that reality exists and my bed is strange and unfamiliar and it's like entering the world for the first time all over again. Life comes rushing back to me in an instant, a hard slap of schedules and commitments and thoughts like, 'god, did I remember to charge my phone last night'. And that's one hell of an emotional whiplash to experience every morning, going from peace to chaos in thirty seconds or less.

So when I wake up, I wake up angry, ready to fight. Fight what, I don't know--perhaps I think I can somehow will the world to conform to my desire to be left alone--but usually I end up growling a lot and abusing my alarm clock before I finally, reluctantly drag my body from the warmth of blankets and sheets and pillows.

Yeah, that's what I thought. Mornings don't sound so great to you anymore either, huh.

But... lately...

It was simple enough, you know. Just small texts to wake up to, nothing extraordinary, usually followed by smiles or hearts, that sort of thing.

So very like her.

At first I didn't think much of it, because usually I wouldn't check them until after already going through the ritual of being a bit of a bear and knocking my clock over. The feeling was strange to me, standing there at my sink with my toothbrush hanging out of my mouth, reading over the words encouraging me to have a good day.

For a brief moment I forgot how to be angry.

But every morning after that, the messages kept coming, and I started to expect them, finding that I couldn't manage to get out of bed without reaching for my phone first to check. And even when my eyes are blurry from sleep or I hate everything else I always try to send something back, though I can hear her laughing all the way from wherever she might be as she tells me not to worry and to catch five more minutes of sleep.

And it's funny because in the minute it takes me to force my eyes open to read whatever it is she's sent me for the morning, not only do I forget to be angry, I forget how to hate mornings so much.

I still don't do them well; my short hair allows for even worse bed-head now than before, and I occasionally am still not the kindest person as far as my clock is concerned. But for the first time in my life I've been able to smile genuinely before noon. Not that fake shit I put on for the cameras and concerts and everyone else but the real thing, teeth and all, special for her as I lay in the dim morning light in my apartment.

A smile that, sometimes I even attempt to get away with backstage when no one else is looking--when our hands brush 'accidentally' or our eyes lock in passing. Something just between us.

Ah... That idiot.

Because of her I have to admit that I'm wrong and change my opinion on something. Reina doesn't do that. Ever.

But maybe just this once.

I kinda like mornings. A lot.

[6:50AM: Good morning, beautiful. <3 I hope you have a fantastic day. :)]

My mom came to my room and asked me what evil thoughts have been conjured up in my mind. WELL YES!! Evil indeed!

If by evil you mean completely amused by this shortie  XD

Ahh youth  Ahh technology and its superhuman powers to change our views of the facts we hate about life XD

Hahahahahaha Nice one Fimster.

I CAN'T SLEEP. So I wrote a thing. And I'm writing other things. And maybe in three weeks when this semesters over you'll see other things. But for now here's this thing :D Same Reina POV, same mystery pairing, sort of a continuation of the previous oneshot, etc. goodnight~

The Yankii Monologues: Insomnia

Hey.

I know you're sleeping now. I know I should be too but the second I sign off the loneliness hits and if I don't do something productive while I lie here awake then I'll probably just suffer a panic attack and I'll have to text you and wake you up and I'm really tired of being that kind of helpless, you know?

I envy your ability to pass out so fast and to be dead to the world within seconds. I wish I could. It's just another insecurity for me, another reminder of how imperfect I am. And I worry because well, shouldn't I be sleeping easy too? Because I have you and I'm happy with you and my mind should be settled and I should sleep knowing that you're doing the same.

But I can't.

Because you're not here--you're some hundreds of miles away in another city, in another bed that isn't mine. Not because you're unfaithful, but because life just played out like that, playing its cruel tricks on us just the way it does everyone else. I'm not trying to complain, since we've worked out ways to cope and seeing your face and hearing your voice nearly everyday is certainly better than the way we started out.

I know I probably made you laugh just now, thinking about how we started out. Those train tickets get expensive fast.

And I still get to have some moments with you that seem normal, like when we watch movies together, or play video games, or stay up all night talking. So really, I have a whole lot to be thankful for, considering that this has even worked up to this point.

Why can't I sleep then?

Because it hurts.

My entire body aches not being with you, in every sense of the word. Some nights it's painful just to lay here, all tangled up with a pillow that's such a poor substitute for you, knowing that if I don't hold on to something I might break and cry and I'll have another reason to text you. But I won't. Because I'm too proud and because I don't want to wake you. And even if I did you're not here to kiss away the tears and make it better.

I hate that I've become like this, so whiny and emotional--so very different from this self-sufficient aura I project. But I need you. And it scares me. I've never been like this before, never let down my guard so low. You probably don't realize how easily you could ruin me with just a few words.

But that's also how much I trust you. It's how firmly I believe in you and know that you won't hurt me. I've become so much stronger now knowing that you're there, I've matured and grown away from that image I had back when I first joined because of you.

That's why, even though it hurts, the pain is kind of bearable, beautiful even. Knowing that my mind and body and soul won't really find any peace until you're here with me again.

It's not that you complete me. I don't believe in soulmates anymore, or missing puzzle pieces or shit like that. You didn't even come in and put my heart back together when it was broken, because I didn't need someone to do that for me. You just listened and gave me the space to do it on my own.

You compliment me.

We're not exact opposites, just enough that you balance out my hot temper and my childishness and I keep you from worrying too much and getting too old too fast. If I had to let you go or watch you leave for whatever reason, I would still get by somehow, I'm sure--I've learned by now that life goes on.

But I don't want to. Ever.

I want to be with you. Sit next to you. Hold your hand. Maybe if I'm brave enough and if you say it's okay, I'll kiss you, and then I'll probably get so shy and flustered that I forget how to speak until you tell me it's okay, shut up, and you kiss me back. I wanna curl up with you on the couch or in bed, clothes totally optional, and we can make out or make love or have sex or just cuddle, and I'll whisper things to you until you fall asleep in my arms.

I want to hold you when you're scared or sad or tired or when you just want to be held. I want to protect you and make you laugh and smile and give you things just because I can, just to make you feel loved. Because I love you.

I want all of these things.

And it's okay that I can't have them yet. It's okay that I have to wait still, that I'm counting down the days until you're there in front of me.

Because I keep finding new things to love about you every day. New ways to fall in love with you again every day.

Like you can be sitting there doing something mundane like reading your emails and you apologize to me for being so boring, not knowing that I've lost my breath there on the other side of the screen because I'm just completely captivated by the way your lips curve when you smile. Or how you look when you're concentrating hard--adorable--or the way your voice has taken on that tone that I know you reserve only for me whether you realize it or not.

So while being with you like this right now--hundreds of miles away, you working hard there and me working hard here--isn't the best, I love you and every minute that I spend with you, and I thought maybe you should know that. Even if some nights I can't sleep, or you can't sleep, or we both can't, or we cry and hurt sometimes.

I want you to know it's worth it to me.

I think I can fall asleep now. Maybe if I'm lucky, I'll find you while I'm dreaming too.

Crazy thought process but that thinking should make you sleep unless it really happens :P
