Someone’s aging again today :grin:
SHOOTING STARS
UP1
The gentle wind from the north played with the loose strands of the lady’s light brown hair. Her shoulder length hair was loosely tied back in a bun but the errant strands caught by the soft blow of the wind, wafted around her face and the sun’s light caused the hair to glisten with a thousand highlights.
Sitting securely on the pearly white sand beach, with her arms wrapped around her knees, Ai Takahashi once again watched the grand exit of the proud sun.
It was a low tide, the sea was calm with a few small white waves faintly crashing into the soft sandy shoreline, and the thousand golden hues of the setting sun created a magnificent view, making the surrounding more soothing and even more enchanting.
“Why can’t a beautiful thing like this stay in every minute of the day?” asking no one, the girl let out a sigh of awe and looked around. The surrounding was quiet, only a few were visible wandering along the shore, which made her even more wonder “Why can’t more people stay for a little longer and pay attention to this spectacular scenery?” she paused for a moment and sighed once more “Hmmm, they must be used to this captivating scene already.”
Getting a bit tired of her sitting posture, she inspected the ground behind her and was about to rest her upper body on the sandy ground after making sure it was safe and okay. But before she was able to properly lie down, a lone star travelled down from the sky at the speed of light.
“Ara! A falling star!” the lady exclaimed in a high pitched voice. Her smile grew wider and her eyes sparkled like diamonds as they followed the falling meteor. Though the scene ended in just a blink, her huge smile still remained, for the occurrence was very rare, at least to her. It was her first time witnessing a star falling with the sun still visible. And for this reason, her energy kicked a few notches up and her heart soared with utter delight.
Feeling so lucky, she stretched her right arm upwards and tried to trace the meteor’s trail using her index finger the moment after the star vanished. While her other arm was on the ground, supporting her body weight. Feeling satisfied, she finally hit the ground and placed her two hands underneath her head to serve as her pillows.
With the warmth that emanated from under the ground that she found so comforting and the groovy mood she’s feeling, she continued to watch the moving clouds subtly changing shapes with a smile resting on her lips, happy and content.
Nine months ago, the girl had developed regrets after taking the job that made her moved away from home. Almost every day of the first few months were full of strange moments. With buckets of tears even. But as of late, she was enjoying her stay more and more. The power of Mother Nature was one of the reasons why she got by, the healing power of nature as many people call it.
‘Hmmm... fresh air, fresh food, friendly people, quiet neighbourhood, a perfect place to stay until you get old. Maybe I should get my own house in here. But it’s kind of far from my family and friends and... Reina...’ When her thoughts landed on Reina, in an instant her mood changed and took a hundred-and-eighty-degree turn. Her smile disappeared, her facial expression turned blank, and her eyes grew dim with tears.
Not long after, a couple of tears swiftly spilled over the brim of her eyes and streamed down. Trying to stop the unexpected tears, she closed her eyes tight and then all she could see was total darkness. But a couple of seconds later, Reina’s image vividly appeared.
Sitting up in a swift motion, Ai shook her head hoping Reina’s face in her mind would go away, but it was ineffective with her eyes still closed. And so she opened them, only to find out that painful tears still stung her eyes as the sudden flash of memory of the girl she adored continued to play. And that her eyes threatened to discharge some more tears. That’s when she got up on her feet, and before she knew it, she was already a quarter of a mile away from where she originated, gasping for some air.
After regulating her breathing and successfully stopping her tears from appearing, she stood up straight and faced the vast ocean, trying her hardest not to think about Reina more, the girl she so adored and also the girl she so wanted to forget.
A few moments later, after forcing her mind to go blank, the cold splash of water on her feet jarred her back to reality. And she finally noticed that the sun was already gone and that the wind had turned colder. Thinking that it was time to head back home, she looked at the already dark horizon once again and took a long deep breath.
Picking a stone up from the damp ground, she held it tight and balled her fist up with it. Bringing her balled fist near her chest, she closed her eyes and sincerely murmured “Please take my entire memory of her with this and help me move on, onegai...” Ai Takahashi pleaded softly to whoever could hear her prayers, and threw the stone onto the water with full force.

Hmm hints of ReinAi in first chapter already.

I was so happy when I saw ReinAI, but then I noticed AIGAKI and I knew.. XD Well, I just wanted more ReinAi these days, but I love TakaGaki~ I know I'm lovin' this fic already! :cow:

Ai shook the clinging sand off her red-white-checkered button down shirt and did the same to her pair of denim shorts and her slightly wet red sneakers. Fairly content with the results, she fished her key out from her pocket, turned the knob, and pushed the door open. Inside the entry hall, she murmured something incoherently before bending down to take her shoes and socks off.
She wandered barefoot toward the laundry room with her shoes and socks in her hands. Done with her task, Ai then quietly entered into the living room. And as she made her way inside, something smelling good greeted her and so she took a quick glance to her right. And there she saw Risa, firmly gripping the handle of the saute pan while jerking it repeatedly.
“Tadaima” Ai uttered again but much more coherent this time, and softly as to not surprise the girl as much as possible.
“Okaeri” and Risa responded without taking her eyes off the pan.
With nothing better to do, Ai settled on the leather couch in silence and continued to watch the girl cooking like a pro through the pass-through window. Risa was wearing the apron she bought for her the other week and a faint smile crept on her face as she recollected the Bean’s reaction when she saw the Disney characters prints.
But the smile disappeared the moment she remembered that it was kind of similar to Reina’s reaction when she gave her a kitten. Shaking her head briskly for a brief moment, she then let her head collapse on the back of the sofa, stared at the ceiling and tried to listen to her surrounding to distract herself from thinking about sad memories again.
The very tiny and only stain that she discovered on the white ceiling just now and the sound of chopping as the knife hits the cutting board became interesting to her all of a sudden. Little common things that used to be invisible had become visible in the past months. Trivial happenings had become thought-provoking in her moments of sorrow... she must make them or else she’d drown and spiral down into depression again.
“Is dinner ready yet?” a squeaky voice resonated from the stairway followed by some audible footsteps, breaking the silence of the two. But Ai remained still on the couch and let the Bean do the talking.
“Almost”
“What took you so long Gakisan? We have an appointment after dinner.” whined the girl as she poked her head in the kitchen doorway and watched the Bean scooping out some soup stock from the saucepan, poured it into a bowl before adding some paste in it.
“I’m making another dish that can make our spirit spring up... ja-jan... miso soup.”
“But my spirit’s already soaring, and we’re in a hurry!”
“You’re not the only one living in this house Sayu!” chided the cook with a glare.
Pouting, the Bunny spoke again “Can you make it quick please? My feet are already itching to go out.”
“Hai hai... set the table, it’s almost done.”
With some place-mats on her hands that she took out from the cupboard, Sayu turned around to head to the table but after a few steps, the poor table mats flew from her hand and met the hardwood floor.
“AH! Bikkurishita! Aichaaaaan! Why didn’t you make any sound?!”
“How could I make one when you’re already talking non-stop?” the oldest of the three responded as she sat up properly and gave out a weak smile to the Bunny.
“I thought we’re in a hurry? Sayu? The table?” Risa was already ladling the steaming hot soup into three individual bowls. Too busy to look up and see the commotion, she reminded the youngest without breaking her focus on the soup.
“Right, I’m on it.” The Bunny quickly picked the place-mats up and headed to the table in double pace but she abruptly stopped in her tracks and faced Ai.
“Nee Aichan, a little help would be very nice.” and in the most innocent voice she could muster, Sayu asked while staring at the oldest with her puppy-dog eyes and her sweetest smile on, and with her held mats pressed against her chest.
“Who could ever resist the ichiban kawaii’s eyes and smile?”
“Yay! Aichan loves me! Whoot whoot! Yay! Gakisan’s jealous! Whoot whoot! Yay! Because Aichan loves me! Whoot whoot!” was the Bunny’s chant after hearing Ai’s response and after seeing the oldest stood up from the sofa.
“Yeah yeah... we are definitely in a hurry.” In the process of taking her apron off, Risa retorted while rolling her eyes when the Bunny met her gaze. Rolling her eyes, that’s her best comeback when one of her two housemates decides to play immature from time to time. And as always, the reaction triggers laughter and creates wide grins.

Go ask her, but I suspect the answer would be something like "It's a mystery" XD

Somehow, instead of Sayu, I imagine you're the one doing this :P

Aah! She only sounded lonely because Reina isn't around. Ai-chan is living with two other people! Okay..so after stating the obvious.... :nervous It seems that Ai-chan is always depressed and everything reminds her of Reina. :( I'm very curious about ReinAi's relationship and the events that occurred in the past. :?
TakaGaki is just whatever right now, huh? Normal friends~ It'll be nice if Reina comes along. :twisted:

I'm awfully slow at writing comments, so I was planning to write a proper one here later, but since you welcomed me too I had to appear or I would feel bad XD.
To tell you the truth, I'm lately very picky with the fics I read. But the ReinAIGAKIsayueri seemed interesting enough. Because I like Reinai, I love Takagaki and I'm missing my Kameshige soooooooooooo badly lately :cry: So yeah, you made me very happy with those choices <3.
The first chapter was interesting. I liked it. Because it was short of "OMG Ai-chan is angsty because her precious kitten isn't with her anymore, but I'm sure Risa has to be near to comfort her" XD :heart: But it was this second chapter which made me definitely love this fic. Risa looking so wifey-like already, so cuuuuuute (and her epic disney apron, I loved it :lol:). And Sayu's chant and Kame were so cute adjksadafs :wub: The sole fact those four girls are living together is awesome already. I like that idea a lot. So much fun and drama can develop in that situation :heart: I'm loving the interactions between them since the beggining so I'm looking forward to see what is going to happen.
I'm very curious too about the future of Reina (is she going to appear later?) and AiGaki, but I'm more excited with SayuEri for now. I miss them way too much, and the lack of this pairing is painful :bleed eyes: Are you going to mix the pairings a lot? Because I just realized I'm separating pairings but ReinAIGAKIsayueri can really be a mix of all them :lol: Anyway, like I said, I'll come later to do a proper comment. Meanwhile, keep writing! :heart: This is already looking very good :cow:

Always at this stage in a story, I have loads of questions, all of which are useless to ask, since they're just going to be answered later in the story anyway. Maybe I'll just wait. :P

This update was supposed to be yesterday’s but I wasn’t home, needed to deal with some adult things. I don’t like much being an adult sometimes -_-
My next up will be in ten days more or less, I’m pretty busy with work actually I was only here because last April 5 was one of my dear friends’ birthday. And I didn’t get Up4 right when I was re-writing it, but Up5, Up6 and Up8 were done already so when I get back, updates will be daily again I guess.

“Hot! Hot! Hot!”
“Of course it’s hot! Can’t you see the smoke it’s emitting? Baka!”
“Stop talking Gakisan, and hurry up!”
“Tsk”
And dinner was quieter than the usual, except for Sayu’s ‘hot hot’ exclaims every now and then and Risa’s chuckles and remarks whenever it appeared. And Ai was there at the side-line, chuckling with Risa from time to time. After finishing her meal, Ai then headed to the sink and started to wash the used kitchenware like always.
“Are you okay?”
“I am now.” Responded Ai after placing down the spatula she was holding and faced the Bean with a meek smile.
“That’s good to hear. Listen, one of our friends arrived and so we’re going to go visit her... would you like to come with us?”
She was about to decline the offer but after looking into the sincere eyes of the Bean, something’s telling her she must say yes. And so she gave it a second thought. Maybe it’s better for her to go out, get herself tired before sleeping than be left in the house all alone and might end up thinking more about Reina again.
“Hmmm... there’s only one way to make me go”
“What?”
“A kiss on the lips from you”
With that remark, a palm flew and landed on Ai’s shoulder, hard, followed by a loud yell “Baka!”
Eyes squinting, nose scrunching up and all of her top teeth showing... results of a triumphant grin, Ai then resumed her work but kept glancing at the lovely sight and watched as the Bean blushed while giving her a scowl. She so loves teasing the inexperienced girl and so loves seeing her face go redder and redder. Her incoherent murmurs after every antic received and her frowning brows made her look even cuter. And every time Ai captures that particular cuteness, it makes her all the more wonder why Risa’s still single until now. Because aside from being very good in managing a household, the girl is on the right age and is evidently gorgeous. Hands down, the most perfect woman for a wife she’s seen thus far in this town.
“Leave my Risa alone Aichan!” with a face, Sayu appeared with the rest of the used tableware on hand and placed them down the sink. “But I so can give you a chuu right now if you insist” the Bunny added, winked at Ai and positioned her lips for the kiss not wasting any more time.
“Ummm... let me think about that... nope, not a chance. I’ll even drag you two out of the house if you two dare to change your minds of going out tonight.”
“Aww, that’s harsh. My lips are perfect and cute and sweet, nee Gakisan?”
With all eyes on her, Risa did not speak a word and just rolled her eyes as her answer. Little did she know that her usual response was about to take them to another level, a totally unexpected level.
“Eh?! Dame?! I’m shock! Really!” the Bunny exclaimed. She then covered her mouth with her hand and opened her eyes wide in obvious exaggeration. But in a blink, her stance changed. “I thought you liked my kiss" the youngest voiced softly and let out a lonely sigh.
Completely caught off-guard, two heads turned sideways and looked at the sad looking Bunny after hearing the words, and in unison, they exclaimed in utter surprise.
Ai’s eyes kept hopping from the Bunny to the Bean, totally intrigued by the Bunny’s revelation. While Risa, with visible confusion plastered on her face, continued to look at the youngest and waited for Sayu to speak again. But when the ichiban kawaii stayed silent, she asked
“What did you just say?!”
“You heard me.” Sayu’s eyes stayed glued to the floor when she answered, pouting... and so sad looking.
“Repeat it again! I want to clearly hear it!”
“Ithoughtyoulikedmykiss!”
Gasping, Ai stared at the Bean, whose gaze never left the Bunny, and waited for her reaction. The Bean had a serious face on but a hint of panic was also there. Making Ai all the more intrigued. ‘Did she really? But how come she has never heard of it? When was it, during her absence in the house? But she hadn’t left town for several months. Or when she’s out for a stroll alone? Or while she was sleeping?’
Her train of thought was interrupted by the soft but firm voice of Risa, hinting that she isn’t playing and that she demands a serious answer from the Bunny. “When did I let you kiss me?!”
“The other night” and the Bunny never changed her stance, conveying that she wasn’t fooling around nor jesting in the least bit.
“Sayu! This is not funny anymore!”
“It’s true! You even mentioned you liked it.”
The oldest was looking at the two back and forth, like watching a Ping-Pong match, Sayu’s stance stood firm while Risa became more fidgety by the second. It’s like watching a secret relationship that just got blown off.
Trying to weigh the situation in a more logical manner, she stared at the Bean for a moment and did the same to the Bunny, and that’s when she remembered something and so she locked her gaze on the Bunny and butted in “When was this specifically?”
“Just before you knocked on my door non-stop”
“Oh, that time.” Ai then chuckled
“Why are you laughing? What are you two talking about?! And when was that exactly because I can’t remember a thing!” starting to get annoyed, Risa asked the two.
“The other night, but Aichan’s loud knocks brought an end to my very nice... dream!” the Bunny answered with a serious tone at first but laughed hysterically after uttering the last word. The two roared with laughter and took a few back steps away from the glaring Bean, trying to keep a safe distance in case the Bean would launch a physical attack on them.
“Give me five!” smiling naughtily, Ai shouted and raised her left hand and waited for the Bunny’s hand whilst glancing at the cook to see her facial expression. However the grin toned down a bit in an instant after becoming the recipient of Risa’s sharp stare.
“Oops. Hehehe”
“Tsk! I knew there is something wrong with these people I’m living with!” Risa uttered through gritted teeth and shook her head in disbelief. Seeing that the two were still giggling like mad, she spoke in a shrill loud voice and made exasperated expressions, reaction queen mode switched on. “Dear Kami-sama, why am I stuck with them!? What have I done to deserve this!?” she threw her hands up in a pretty exaggerated manner and let out a long exasperated sigh, which earned another series of held back laughter from the duo.
After giving out a seemed so endless piercing stare which made the two stood side by side with their somewhat remorseful look on, Risa finally backed away. She shook her head once again and turned around to leave the two rascals.
“Risa-chan, wait...”
The Bean stopped on her track and turned her head to face Ai, still wearing a scowl “What?!”
“Thank you for the soup.”
“Yeah! But there will be no more next time!” after that, she stomped and left the two sheepishly grinning girls behind with a pout. But when she was already on the stairway, the scowl was already gone. And her eyes flickered and a smirk slowly crept across her face as if anticipating what was about to happen. Without waiting for too long, Sayu’s voice shrieked and echoed inside their two-storey house, complaining about the time and then clanking and clashing sound of utensils followed.
“There, my sweet revenge.”

Haha! I love when Ai-chan told Gaki to kiss her on the lips. :lol: And there goes Reaction Queen Mode, blowing off on Sayu's kissy joke. :lol: XD
I panicked. Cuz' for a moment, I thought there was a little GakiSayu. I mean, Sayu is supposed to be the one fangirling over Ai-chan. XD But it's good to know that she would love to give Ai-chan a kiss. :grin:
So i guess the "friend" who they're about to visit is Kame. :mon determined:

Wow, isn't Ai-chan being too bold, even for a joke? :lol: And Risa is being so cute and agressive lol <3 No matter how many times she hits Ai, we all know she secretly wants that to happen. Soon. I want too! Takagaki kiss ~ :heart: The feelings are there I knooooooow it. Ai only needs to forget Reina to see it clearly.

I loved this part! My mental image of Ai here was so funny XD
I :heart: this Sayu. Her evil switch is always ON, or is just my imagination? Either way I approve. Evil bunny is hilarous, and I love her perfect and cute and sweet lips too :lol: . AiSayu cooperation to tease Risa was priceless. And her exaggerated reactions to it are fantastic XD I hope there is more of it because I enjoyed it a lot. Annoy the bean looks like a good hobby after all. Like I said, interaction here is sooo fun to read! :heart:

“You’re late!” was the greetings of a young woman who crossed her arms over her chest and sported a pout after opening the door. Anyone who’s only heard it would think that the woman was angry, but anyone who’s seen her face would think differently, for her smiling eyes betrayed her big time.
“Eri~riiiiiin!” Sayu’s heavenly joy radiated from her eyes upon seeing the woman and in the timbre of her voice when she screamed her name. For a moment, seeing the girl made Sayu’s surrounding turned soundless and all that she saw was her girlfriend in front of her, staring deeply back at her. And so without delay, the Bunny jumped into the woman’s arms with her smile that stretched from ear to ear.
Enveloped in Sayu’s warm hug, Eri’s face lit up with a huge smile as well and her eyes shone with unbridled happiness the moment they touch skin to skin. Her hands then snaked around her girlfriend’s waist and gave her the same intensity and warmth she’s given.
With their eyes tightly closed, they savoured each other’s warmth. And sniffing each other’s scent, they relished the sweetness of the moment. Both had longed for this day to come for the past several months and now that they are together again and locked in a tight embrace, they aren’t letting go that soon and planned to make every second as intimate as possible, to make up for lost time.
“I missed you so muuuuuuuuuch!”
“Hontou?”
“Hontouni!”
“Why am I not convinced?”
“Eh?!” confused, Sayu loosened the hug and looked the Turtle in the eye.
“You’re even late!”
“Oh... that...” the time spent thinking about a proper answer was a bit longer than necessary. Sayu was weighing if it was okay to just say the real reason or not. But what would Eri think if she did, when she’s fully aware that her girlfriend’s waiting for her? But before a decision was made, Eri spoke again
“And I so could sense that you’re only here for the o-mi-ya-ge”
“Eh? You’re mean!” when Eri continued to display her straight face, with a grim expression on Sayu dropped her hands to the side and shook her body in a lousy attempt to escape from Eri’s embrace.
“Hehehe. I missed you too.” Finally letting out a sheepish smile, the Turtle tightened her grip and brought Sayu closer to her again. Already Sayu could feel eyes burning into her skin but decided to stay still with her head held low and lips pursed together to show her displeasure at her girlfriend’s teasing words.
The Turtle’s attempt to appease the Bunny was not so successful and seemed like a wasted effort and so she went ahead with plan B. She brought her right hand up and held the Bunny’s chin with her bent index finger. She then slowly tilted Sayu’s face up so that she could look straight into the younger’s eyes, which were obviously still whining. “You have no idea how much I missed you” sincerely whispered Eri with her natural sweet smile on, making the Bunny gave in and gave off a shy smile, obviously smitten to the core.
“Hontou?”
“Cross my heart and hope to die.”
Looking deeply into the younger’s brown eyes, Eri slowly leaned over to plant her kiss, but before her lips landed on her girlfriend’s, someone from not too far behind the Bunny cleared her throat, halting the progressing romantic happenings. Tilting her head to the side, Eri saw the waving Risa standing next to a smiling woman.
“Gakihan!”
“Kamehan.”
“I didn’t notice your presence.”
“I so could see why”
With a wide grin plastered on her face, Eri let go of her girlfriend and was about to walk towards the two to greet them when Sayu let out a clear big groan. Halting, Eri looked back and gave her an apologetic smile “We’ll get back to that later, okay?”
“Humph! I swear two people will get strangled during their sleep tonight!” the Bunny yelled it purposely so that it can be heard by the two grinning audiences.
“Silly” Eri then took Sayu’s hand, gave it a squeeze and walked with her girlfriend towards the two.
“Sorry about that Sayumin... but you see it’s freezing out here.” The Bean apologized.
“Why didn’t you bring a coat with you?”
“I wasn’t informed that we’d have to stay out-door in a cold black night for long~”
“Aichan! Why didn’t you give Gakisan the warmth she needed?”
“Eh?”
“You could have asked Aichan to hold you!”
“Right! Why didn’t I think of that?” rolling her eyes, Risa walked towards the Turtle and ignored Sayu’s tantrums for she knows it's not too serious and will be gone in no time. She then gave the Turtle a quick hug before introducing the two strangers “This is Takahashi Ai.”
“Hello”
“Aichan, this is Kamei Eri”
“Hi. It’s nice to finally meet you.”
“Same here”
“How about we go inside now and continue our talk there? I’m really cold right now.”
“Right, gomen. Please come on in”
The room echoed with laughter and was filled with girly talks for hours. The three chatted enthusiastically while frequently pulling Ai, who tried to be present but spaced out every now and then, into the conversation. Still getting familiar, that’s what they thought but without their knowing, Ai’s mood turned a little down again after seeing the pictures of a happy SayuEri displayed on top of a table, mostly clad in school uniforms. The oldest was smiling on the outside but her heart was crying on the inside, because those pictures reminded her of her past, her college life, her life with Reina.
Not wanting to worry her friends, Ai finally excused herself and went to the bathroom. Inside, she pulled her wallet out from her handbag and flipped it open. Staring at it for a while whilst running her fingers on it, she contemplated if she should get it. And after gathering enough courage, her fingers moved to a secret compartment and from there, took out a small sized picture of two happy smiling girls hugging each other.
She longingly stared at one particular person, and not long after, a lone tear travelled down when she silently read the scribbles on it. ‘July 13 - the day Reina and Ai become one’

Risa was already standing in front of the couch, holding her head with her hands at either side, jaw on the ground, eyes wide open, looking so shocked and appalled when Ai re-entered into the living room. She was eyeing the Turtle who was holding her tummy and was in a fit of uncontrollable laughter on the floor.
“You’re the one who asked me to hush Sayu” unsteadily pointing a finger to Risa, then to Sayu and back to hold her tummy, the Turtle said between bursts of laughter. She was still on the floor, hunched up against the couch Sayu was laying on.
The Bunny didn’t seem to want to partake in the conversation. She was only listening and watching the two women exchanging their opinions with a wide grin, and hugging a cushion close to her chest. But her face was blushing ten shades of red, looking somewhat flustered.
“WHAT I MEANT WAS, GIVE THAT THING TO HER ALREADY!”
“It’s not her birthday yet”
“It’s only an hour away!”
“Today is still the 12th, so technically it’s not her birthday yet.”
“But she was becoming irritating by the second!”
“I succeeded in hushing her, didn’t I?”
“WITH A DEEP KISS?! AND SO IN FRONT OF ME?!”
“So?”
“I even saw a to... oh gosh forget it!”
“It wasn’t mine, it was Sayu’s” The Turtle started to laugh hysterically again after uttering the words.
“OMG! I’m not listening, not so listening!”
“What? It’s just a kiss. Why are you so worked up over it?”
“Kiss is a private thing! Normal people don’t do that in front of other people!”
“Exactly, we’re not normal people.”
Planking herself into the next sofa, Risa sighed and embraced her defeat, while Eri was still grinning, amused at the Bean’s reactions.
“Oh! So, someone had her kiss already.” uttered Ai as she sat on the floor while patting the Bunny’s head.
“Please don’t be jealous Aichan, my Eri is okay with sharing”
“Oi! I heard that!”
“Itai!” shrieked the Bunny as she received a hard slap to her feet, courtesy of her eye-squinting girlfriend.
“Don’t worry Kamei-san, I’m already used to her.”
Risa’s deep sigh and shaking of head caught the Turtle’s attention again and so she faced the Bean. “Until when do you plan to stay single? You’re not getting any younger, just in case you haven’t noticed.”
“What? I’m happy being single.”
“You have no idea what you’re missing out by staying single.”
“Yeah, like intimate hugs.” butted in the Bunny as she sat up and embraced her held cushion even tighter.
“Hands to keep you warm.” added the Turtle while running her hand over her girlfriend’s exposed skin.
“Hot kisses.” and a look of mischievous delight spreading across Sayu’s face when she said it.
“Gosh, please not again.”
Laughter echoed once more as the two girlfriends teased the poor Bean, who, then and there, walked out and left the three.
“Aichan~ don’t be too jealous okay? Come, I’ll give you a hug and a kiss too.”
“How about I give your girlfriend a kiss instead”
“Over my dead beautiful body!”
“Silly! Takahashi-san, are you enjoying your stay in here? Life here is different from the city.”
“Please, call me Aichan. And yes, I do like it here.”
“Yeah?”
“Yeah, she didn’t even leave the town in months.”
“Oh, so you’re single too?”
Ai only smiled at the question.
“I’ve been wondering about that too but always forgot to ask. Are you single too?” inquired the youngest, eyes glistening with curiosity and turned all ears.
“I don’t believe in long distance relationship”
“Oh”
“But that doesn’t mean it won’t work for other people, yeah? I mean look at you two, hundreds of miles away but still looking strong”
“Of course, I think it’s just time management and the determination to make the relationship work, nee Eririn?”
“True. Coupled with the over flowing love and devotion you have for each other and... omiyages.” Eri chuckled as she saw the Bunny glaring and pouting at the same time.
“I hate you”
“I know and I love you too”
“And it’s 12 o’clock already” said Risa as she walked back into the living room with a cake on hand. Eri and Ai immediately sprang to their feet and together with Risa, they sang a happy birthday song.
“Make a wish”
“Happy birthday Sayu, here.”
“Arigatou”
“Go on, open it”
“It’s a necklace! Kawaiiii~”
“I'm glad you like it."
"I don't like it! I looooove it~"
"That's good to hear. Do you know why I chose that instead of the ring you mentioned before?”
“Eh? There’s a reason? I thought you just love teasing me.”
“Of course there is, silly!”
“What is it?”
“Most of the time I’m far away from you yeah?”
“Uh-huh”
“I may be far away from you but with that I still can be with you all the time and more importantly reside near your heart.”
“Ho-ho-ho! Someone shoot me now.” Risa exclaimed while Ai was chuckling at the reason given.
“What? It’s romantic don’t you think?” with a shy grin, Eri articulated.
“Yes, it is.” Clasping her hands together, Sayu responded with her eyes twinkling like the brightest star in the night sky, happy at the thoughtful words her girlfriend had uttered.

I love how differently Ai and Risa react to the teasing. Risa makes it too easy, while Ai reverses the teasing with things like:

Ai woke up in the middle of the night shedding tears and bathed in sweat. Her dream felt so real that when she woke up, her heart was in agonizing pain and her whole body was trembling. She tried breathing in and breathing out to ease the pain and to stop from crying, but it was futile because the pain was just too deep.
Worried that her uncontainable cry disturbed her roommate’s sleep, Ai raised her head from the pillow and took a glance at the next bed. She could faintly see the rising and falling of Risa’s chest, a sign that she’s still sound asleep and so she let her head flop back onto the pillow and tried to calm herself down.
But the harder she wanted to stop from crying the more she shed tears. She tried suppressing the sound that was emitting from her cry by biting her lower lip and by covering her mouth with her hand but it was not enough and so she buried her face in her pillow, her pillow that was soaked with her own tears in mere seconds.
Moments later Ai stood up from her bed and headed to the door, not giving her wheezing a single chance to win and awake the sleeping Bean. The hallway was pitch-black but she did not mind it at all. She kept on walking until she reached the spiral staircase that leads up to the rooftop.
Sitting in one corner, Ai wrapped her arms around her legs and hugged them tight against her chest, trying her hardest to eradicate the pain that was raging inside her. The cold breeze somehow relaxed her physically for the sweats slowly vanished but it never eased the pain she was feeling deep within her. Every detail was so vivid and clear as if it only happened yesterday, making the pain more unbearable and unfathomable.

“Good evening Tanaka-san”
“Oh, Aichan, good evening too”
“Is Reina around?”
“Eh? She didn’t tell you?”
“Tell me what?”
“She went out with him”
“Him?”
“Hokori-kun arrived the other night and they went out shopping today after lunch”
“Oh, I see... I’ll just come back later Tanaka-san”
“Okay”
I left Tanaka’s house and found myself sitting on the concrete curb across the street. ‘Her ex-boyfriend is here... and she hid it from me..?’ I asked myself confused ‘Is she hiding something?’ I asked myself again, that’s when my heart started to pump faster than the normal and fear started to build up inside me.
Thirty minutes had passed there was still no sign of her. Another thirty minutes later it rained. But I stayed put and waited, not minding that my entire clothing was already drenched by the torrents of rain.
It was almost nine in the evening when I saw a car screech to a stop in front of Reina’s house. Instinct made me hide myself behind a parked car. And then my heart started to beat faster yet again when I saw Reina sweetly smiling to the man, who was standing beside the car, holding an umbrella.
Her expression seemed to exude happiness, her face radiated with joy. That’s when my knees felt weak and a sharp pain shot through my heart as I watched the unfolding scene. I was stunned even more when I saw the two held hands while walking towards the house door. That’s when my world sunk, tears flowed, and my heart felt like it was being stabbed a million times.
“Reina...” I uttered but the voice was too low and it never reached her. Then the door closed and it felt like I was being thrown away, I find it hard to breathe. It felt like I was caught in between two colliding hard objects, I couldn’t move.
“Aichan! It’s raining. Do you need a ride?” Linlin, my friendly neighbor, shouted from inside her car, never suspecting that I was crying since the tears united with the raindrops and the area, I was at, being slightly dim helped cover my distressed face. I waved at her to acknowledge her presence and shook my head no and sat down again on the watery curb with my brain not functioning too well.
I only came back to reality when firecrackers started to sound, when pyrotechnics started to show its grandeur up in the night sky, a sign that the date had already changed. I didn’t even notice when the heavens had stopped sending down water drops.
I looked at Reina’s house and heard jolly music playing and laughter echoing. Feeling crushed, I lowered my head, closed my eyes for a little while and took a long deep breath. And then I stood up, ready to leave the place, but then I was frozen midway. Reina was already standing in front of me, never making a sound and I was totally caught off guard.
“Rei... happy new year...” I said trying to break the awkward silence and forced a smile. She did not speak, instead she moved slowly and sat on the damp curb and I remained standing still.
Uncomfortable silence took over once more and so, without looking at her, I tried to speak again “I need to g...”
“I’m sorry” grabbing my wrist, she cut in.
“Please, not now...” I told her as if I knew what she was going to say. But after a long silence and the entire situation sunk in, I found myself talking again.
“Reina, why?”
“It just... happened”
“I thought you loved me”
“I did... I still do... but...”
“But why?” begging for a more comprehensible answer I asked again as I turned my head to look at her but she was holding her head low and stayed silent and so I continued trying my hardest not to crack my voice but it still came out shaky “I thought we were happy... three years didn’t mean anything to you?” and after that my tears glided down without permission, cascading down my already wet and cold cheeks.
Her hand loosened the grip, letting it fall into her lap as she took a deep breath. Her gaze stayed glued to the ground and started to speak in a shaky voice “When you started working out of town, I’ve been thinking a lot... about us... about the situation we’re in... people around us... your family... my family... the future.” She stopped and tried to catch her ragged breath while wiping her tears away. And when she opened her mouth to talk again, the words that came out got me.
“I want a normal family, where people won’t stare at us like we have some contagious dis...”
“Sshhh” I shushed. I couldn’t bear the pain anymore, her words and tears were like daggers slashing my heart into pieces. After a few seconds of silence, I moved and squatted before her. I held her face up, looked into her crying eyes and wiped the tears away with my thumb.
“Rei...”
“Hey, there you are” a male voice from behind me butted in before I was able to form a full sentence. That’s when I saw Reina panicked for a split second and removed my hand from her face.
“Hey” she responded and gave the man a small forced but sweet smile. And that was the trigger. As the pain leveled up inside my shattered heart, I gave Reina one last look and she stared back at me with her eyes brimming with tears again. I smiled at her and silently sighed in defeat.
I stood up and said as genki as possible “I’m going now, I need to rush home or my mother will kill me for being overly late! Nice seeing you again Reina” and then I took quick steps, not giving the man any chance to say a word nor did I take a look at him because I wasn’t sure what would happen if I did.
“Who was that?”
“A friend from college”
“Oh”
And that was the last thing I’ve heard because after taking a couple of meters of quick steps, I ran as fast as my two legs could take me with my heart bleeding and my eyes continued to release a torrent of tears.

Ai was already hiccupping in between sobs, sobs that made her body shook involuntarily. The flashback felt so real that it made her heart ache like hell and opened the floodgate of an uncontrollable river of tears.
Arms on her bended knees, she buried her face in them as she openly faced the emotional storm that was raging inside her. Fully embracing the fact that she’s still not over her yet, that remembering the past still creates a massive blow, and that the wound has not yet fully healed and still bleeds when poked.
However, the trembling of her body came to a sudden halt, and her sobs began to slow down into shallow breaths when she heard someone sneezed. With her tear-streaked face, she looked up to see who it was. And as she had predicted she saw Risa, sitting at the other end.
Some moments ago, Risa was awakened by a sound of cry. And when she lifted her head up to inspect, she saw Ai burying her face on her pillow. Torn between consoling her friend and letting her have her private moment, she opted for the latter after a quick thought but decided to keep herself awake just in case her presence will be needed.
But later on, when she saw Ai left the room, Risa became uneasy ‘Should she follow her?’ but the last time she did, she became more dramatic than Ai. And it ended up Ai patting her back and comforting her instead, which was very embarrassing on her part. She wept even not knowing the reason why Ai was crying. What triggered her outbursts of crying was only the strange aura surrounding the older that screamed pain.
“I wish I could help make the pain go away for you.” That was the only thing that came out from her mouth. And the older did not respond, all she did was continue patting her back. And they continued to sit there without exchanging words until the presence of weak sunlight appeared as the sun started to rise over the horizon.
Remembering it made Risa cringe, but for the second time in less than an hour, she’s torn between two things again. Should she follow or should she just pretend that she didn’t see Ai’s state at all. Tossing and turning in bed, that’s what she had done for the past several minutes until she abruptly sat up and threw her blanket away.
“So what if I’ll get myself embarrassed again!” she mumbled as she climbed out of the bed. She walked over to her closet and slipped in her robe before pulling out another one. Clutching the extra robe, she trekked the path that leads to the rooftop, determined to be strong for Ai this time around.
It was still dark and all she could make out was the dark silhouette crouched at the far end. The surrounding was quiet that the peaceful sound of waves rippling along the shore was loud and clear, but the sound of Ai’s cry was also audible. She was already weeping with convulsive gasping.
Watching her friend in an intense state of pain made her heart twinge. And listening to her friend’s cry made her heart thud almost painfully in her chest. The scene before her made her eyes brim with tears and threatened to stain her cheeks but she fought against it and held it in. Trying not to break down again, she swallowed the lump that gathered in her throat as she walked to a corner.
She sat at the other end while watching Ai hiccup between sobs like a small child. Risa’s tears were stubborn like always but she managed to make it soundless this time. She cried quietly into the soft linen she was clutching. And with her determination to stay strong, she accompanied her roommate in silence.
She still managed to control the sound of her cry until the crack of dawn but, unfortunately, she failed to control the sound of her sneezing which was very loud and clear. The woman she was watching over for some time turned almost quiet upon hearing the sound and slowly, she lifted her head up and they met eye to eye.
“Sorry” Risa said with a faint smile.
“How long have you been here?” The older said with a tone that was rather hollow in depth and slightly nasal
“I saw you walked out of our room looking... vulnerable... I followed about ten minutes after you left... thought you needed a company”
“Let’s go, I’ll make you some hot chocolate” The older said as she stood up and walked towards the Bean. She then dusted her hands off before offering her right hand to Risa.
“Eh? I’m good”
“I need some too, or else we’ll end up sneeze-racing at work”
Risa was reluctant to grab the hand at first but did it anyway after sensing that Ai’s trembling eased up and after seeing Ai’s smile. It was weak but a smile nonetheless. Ai then pulled her up to her feet and together they climbed down the stair.
After ushering the Bean to the dining table, Ai went to the kitchen and rummaged through the fridge in search for the needed ingredients. After taking them out, she took a serrated knife out of a drawer and started chopping the chocolate on the cutting board.
Risa was silently staring at Ai preparing for the drink. And a hint of sadness was still visible on Ai’s face, sending Risa’s heart into an unknown territory. But all of a sudden, Ai’s expression changed, making Risa’s heart skip a beat. Suspecting that something bad had happened, Risa stood up and dashed into the kitchen. But she froze in the doorway when she saw bright red blood on the chopping board.
Ai winced at the very moment she saw blood oozed out in little dots, more so out of shock than pain. Her focus on the task at hand was a bit off, and so the knife slipped and cut her finger instead.
“OMG! Aichan!” the Bean screamed in horror as the blood continued to gush out
“Does it hurt?”
“A little”
Risa then grabbed Ai’s hand and immediately put it under the faucet’s running water to clean it. Letting it go for a moment, she tiptoed and took the first aid kit from the uppermost shelf. She took the lid off the box and took out the antibiotic ointment and an adhesive strip.
Purposely hiding her face, the Bean lowered her head and started treating the wound in silence and when she was done, what came out from her mouth slightly surprised Ai.
“Please, stop hurting yourself... because it’s hurting me too.”

“Am I interrupting something?”
Sayu’s words snapped the two back to reality. Risa, who had her back facing the Bunny, retreated by pulling her eyes away from the woman in front of her. She then busied herself by clearing the counter and putting the ointment back in the box. While Ai, who was facing Sayu, managed to greet the Bunny ‘Okaeri’.
Sayu’s sudden appearance made Ai unable to respond to Risa’s words. But then again, even if she had all the time in the world, she’d still find it hard to gather the words, for the words that came out of Risa’s mouth seemed to have a deeper meaning. And her eyes spoke something her lips didn’t utter the moment she lifted her head up and they met eye to eye. They carried an emotion with a different level of complexity. Sure, Risa had seen her cry countless times and she had seen Risa’s reactions every time, but she hadn’t seen that look before... or was she too consumed by her own pain and sorrow that she wasn’t able to notice it and totally missed it?
Deep in thought, Ai stared again into the silent Bean who stood on tiptoe with her arm stretched out, in the process of returning the kit in the shelf.
“Oookay, you two carry on. I’ll just go get something somewhere and be back later”
“Take a seat. I’ll prepare the drink for us.” Refusing to make eye contact with Ai, Risa spoke very softly but clearly. Her voice was soft and carefully calm. She then started making the drink with a composed facial expression, all the while trying her hardest to hide her internal panic reactions. The moment she realized that she had spoken the words out loud, her body thrummed with tension. She then was deliberating what to do and what to say after catching Ai’s look of surprise when she heard her utter the words. Risa was curious herself why she had said it. And it was already too late to rephrase it.
“I smell something burning!” Sayu’s voice echoed from somewhere and again, brought Risa back to reality.
“Oh crap!”

“You two are up early... did you two sleep or... sleep with each another while I was away last night?” Smirking, the Bunny asked the two after emerging from the door. “The latter would be epic though.” batting her eyelashes coyly, she continued teasing the two. She then proceeded to the spot where a mug of smoke emitting drink was awaiting her. The two were already seated side by side and were sipping their share in silence when she barged in again.
“Sayu!” Risa grumbled whilst shifting a little in her seat and began to blush, while Ai was quiet but a grin was slowly creeping across her face.
“What? There’s nothing wrong with my question. The whole world knows you’re a virgin since birth and we’re now aware that Ai here is available. Plus with your current appearance, any adult person would think that... it’s either you two slept late and did something ahem or woke up in the middle of the night and did something ahem. You two looked messy but still smexy” and a wink was added and thrown into the blushing Bean’s way.
“Look who’s talking! You’re even wearing your shirt inside-out!”
“Eh?!” Sayu exclaimed in surprise as she looked down and examined her shirt, and then a shy grin appeared and she unwittingly began to blush.
“So, someone was having a great night I see.” Ai finally talked. And the tone of her voice turning back to normal and seemed ready to play along again.
During the early days, that kind of scenario causes Risa a bit of surprise. She was always wondering how Ai managed to change her aura after her cries when in front of other people. She’s pretty good in hiding her sorrow, even to Sayu. But as the days went on, she may still get a bit surprised but she’d learned to let it slide and shrug it off.
“Oh Ai-sama, you have no idea” with a look of excitement plastered all over her face, the Bunny clasped her hands together in delight and responded with a grin that stretched from ear to ear.
“Oh gosh” covering her ears, Risa braced herself for the incoming topic.
“I discovered something rough about Eri last night”
“Rough is definitely good... definitely good!”
“That’s it!” standing abruptly, Risa shrieked
“What?”
“You two perverts continue talking perverted topics without me! I’m out!” with that, she took her cup from the dining table and was about to leave when Sayu countered.
“When did Eri’s rough hand due to soap reactions become a perverted topic?”
“Nice one!” the two high-fived and roared with laughter while Risa continued to stomp towards the kitchen counter, with her cheeks turning as red as a winter apple.
When the laughter subsided, though Ai was still grinning and Risa murmuring incoherent words whilst preparing their breakfast, Sayu stood up and headed into the kitchen. Hugging the cook from behind, she then began to talk.
“Ano, Eri and I talked about hanging out this weekend. And since Ai here hasn’t gone to the mountains yet, we thought it’d be nice to bring her there. What do you think guys?”
“Yeah sure, I’m in, but can we move the date, say on Monday? It’s a holiday yeah?”
“Why, you got a date this Saturday?”
“Gonna go visit the folks.”
“It’s about time.” Risa said
“Yeah... it’s been eight months already right?”
“Seven.” Ai replied

“Oneesan, ano… you want to borrow my puppy?”
Risa’s ears perked up after hearing the somewhat hesitant voice. She was sitting in a slouchy manner on the curb of the supermarket’s car park when she heard the question. Curious, she opened her eyes, and as soon as they adjusted from the bright surrounding, she saw a green leash partially sprawled on the ground. And when she looked up, she found a young boy holding a white furry pup looking at her with a hint of concern in his little brown eyes.
The kid was wearing a light blue cap and his white shirt was slightly dishevelled for he was carrying a pup that seemed a little heavy for his tiny little arms. Bumblebee’s image on his white pair of socks was noticeable because the edges of his denim pants were folded outward a little too much, indicating that his pants was a little long for his tiny short legs. And the leash’s handle was inside his jean’s pocket, protruding.
“Wanna play with my puppy?”
“It’s okay” Risa smiled gently as she responded to the somewhat shy little boy.
“Ano… you see, whenever I’m sad or I’m scared and Mama’s not around to give me a hug, I only have to play with my puppy and I’ll be alright”
“Oh”
“You wanna try?”
The remark got Risa lost for words. She was totally amazed by the kid’s maturity at such a young age. And her smile grew wider as the kind gesture reached and touched her heart. ‘How can a little earthling as this one be as thoughtful as he is now? And how did he know I was not feeling too well at the moment, was I that obvious?’
Bringing her gaze down from the boy to the pet he was carrying, Risa saw the pup panting with its teeth showing and its tongue hanging way out, but despite all of those, the puppy remained innocent looking. The fury pup looked playful and bouncy. Its fluffy ears with black streaked hair twitched repeatedly. Its white furry body wriggled enthusiastically. And its short black tail was vigorously wagging non-stop.
“May I?”
“Hai”
The moment the pup was in her arms, it licked the Bean’s face and arms, making Risa giggle from the tickling sensation, and the pup barked energetically in response.
“She likes you”
“She does? What’s her name?”
“Princess”
“Hello there Princess, it’s nice to meet you… and of course it’s nice to meet you too little kiddo.”
The little boy smiled a bright one, seemed happy that he and his pup were able to make a sad person smile. But the Bean remained silent after that.
“What are you thinking oneesan?”
What was she thinking? The question was a hard one. She herself is wondering about it too. All she knows is that there is something within her that’s confusing her… something that’s creating a massive mess and making her usual composed way of thinking chaotic to some extent… something that’s growing each day… something that’s making her happy but sad at the same time.
And all she knows is that whenever she sees her happy, her heart melts a little and is at peace. And whenever she sees her sad, her heart is in misery. She’s in an unknown territory of emotion. And each time she tries to think about it, it’s making her all the more confused, and disorganizing more her thoughts and feelings.
“It’s an adult thing.”
“Ah”
“But when you grow up, by all means do not make ‘watching someone cry’ a hobby or you’ll be in big trouble.”
The kid only gave out a dazed look, confused by the woman’s meaning. But who could blame him, he’s only four.
“It’s okay. You will understand it when you become a grown-up.”
“Matikun! Okaasan’s looking for you” another young boy but a bit older than the first, shouted from a few meters away. Just like the thoughtful little boy, he was also holding a leash with a dog at the other end, a combination of brown and white furred pup.
“Hai! I’m coming oniichan!” the younger responded as he waved and grinned at the taller one. Facing the Bean, his grin slowly faded and was replaced with an apologetic smile.
“It’s okay, I’m already alright, and that’s thanks to you and your cute pup.”
Picking the leash’s end, Risa attached it to the pup’s collar and put the pup on the ground and stood up. “Take care Princess and you too… Matikun?
“Hai, Matikun desu?”
Ruffling the boy’s hair, Risa bent down a little to level with the boy’s height and smiled “Take care Matikun and thank you”
The boy then ran with Princess following suit but stopped after a couple of meters sprint. He turned around and waved at Risa with a brilliant smile. “Bye-bye oneesan”
“Bye-bye. Take care nee” Risa shouted and waved back until the boy turned the corner and disappeared.
“That was nice and comforting” she mumbled whilst looking at her wrist watch. After finding out that she still has two more minutes before her ride arrives, she looked around and spotted a now empty bench and so she dusted her hands off and picked up her grocery bags from the ground and started to walk toward the seat’s direction. She then settled on the seat and started to wait for the ride, driven by the girl that made her resolve shaky, one Ai Takahashi.

“Yay! The couple has finally arrived!” Exclaimed Sayu as she stood up from the patio steps and waved at the people inside the car that stopped in front of their house. She forgot to bring her key and decided to just wait outside since the two were already on their way.
“EH?! They are a couple now?!” with her eyes bulging out, Sayu’s girlfriend, Eri, who remained seated on the patio steps, asked in a high pitched voice, totally caught off-guard at the exposé.
“Look at them, they are like a match made in heaven. Aren’t they perfect for a couple? was all Sayu uttered before jogging towards the two to help carry the grocery bags.
“How’s the couple’s first grocery together?”
“So that’s the reason why you haven’t gone home all these months.” A voice butted in from a few meters away, an unfamiliar voice to everyone but never to Ai.
“Reina?”

Three heads turned sideways in unison, and four sets of eyes darted to the person who suddenly butted into their conversation. But in an instant, the four were temporarily blinded by a light because looking at that person was also looking directly at the afternoon sun, brightly beaming behind the intruder.
In reflex everyone was squinting and some were holding a hand up over their eyes, but it didn’t help them identify the intruder at all, because the sunbeam was entirely encompassing the girl, creating only her silhouette, and making it harder for the four to see her face clearly. All they could make out from the outline was that it was a girl, who wore a fluffy skirt and sported a ponytail hair, split in two.
But after a second or two, three heads turned sideways again when they heard someone responded and uttered a name. Only this time, they turned their somewhat puzzled faces towards their companion, who was facing the woman with a look of surprise on her face. Ai was staring at the girl with her eyes wide open, seemed unaffected by the sunlight. She even hadn’t closed them, not even for a single blink.
“What are you doing here?”
“Why? Is it a crime now to come visit you?” the intruder responded to Ai, but her gaze never left the dazed Bean. She was eyeing the woman her ex-girlfriend was with. A few moments ago, Reina felt her body stiffened after hearing the tallest girl’s words. Words that she’d never expected to hear, words that she had never expected to happen even in her dreams, words that acted like cold water against her feeling that was overflowing with burning excitement of seeing Ai again. On top of that, she saw Ai, her Ai, displaying her wide grin while stealing some glances at the blushing girl. She seemed to enjoy the teasing they received from the black haired girl. And it caused Reina’s heart to beat too fast, too fast to the point that it already hurts. Trying to understand the situation she was in, she stopped on her track and right then and there, her eyes were glued to the girl and she wondered why she felt the urge to scrutinize her with thoroughness. Was it curiosity consuming her, or was it jealousy?
When their flabbergasted companion asked the intruder why she was here, the three looked into the unknown girl’s direction again, not minding the blinding sun at all. They were curiously waiting for her answer to Ai’s question, and when it happened, curiosity skyrocketed even more, for her answer was uttered with a hint of pain and an obvious tone of authority in her voice.
Luckily, nature was on their side, the clouds helped them and hid the sun. It took them several seconds for their eyes to get adjusted, and when they did, what they saw was causing them to feel uneasy and uncomfortable, especially Risa, because the intruder was looking at the Bean from head to toe, examining her wholly like as if she was an important portrait in a gallery, but at the same time it felt like she was a lone prey in the open field being sized up by an intimidating predator.
Risa looked down as she shifted her feet. She was feeling a little self-conscious at the given attention. Things started to run one after the other inside her head, questions and wonders. Like why was the girl looking at her that way. Why was Ai too surprised to see her? Why was the tone of her voice suggesting that she isn’t just a friend? There was so many whys running inside her mind, but the last why that popped bothers her more than the first few... why is it that the situation’s causing her heart to feel a little down?
The Bean was shifting her feet uncomfortably until Ai spoke and asked them to go inside the house without her. Risa wasn’t sure if she should be happy, because Ai’s intervention brought an end to her growing feeling of restlessness and discomfort due to the unwanted stare, or not. But she nodded anyway.
Reina never lifted her eyes off the girl even when Ai did not respond to her, and even when the girl she was staring at caught her meaningful stare. But when she saw the girl turned her head to Ai, when she saw the face the girl was wearing when she looked at her ex-girlfriend’s, that’s when she averted her gaze from Risa and searched for Ai’s eyes.
The eye contact was pretty nostalgic, but at the same time she felt a pang of loss the moment she met her ex-girlfriend’s eyes. Normally, it would send her to heavenly bliss each time they stare into each other’s eyes, for Ai’s eyes never failed to shimmer with joy and passion every time. But now, there’s just something lacking, the lustre wasn’t there anymore.
She’d never expected to see Ai with someone new. And seeing her now with another woman made her realize that she isn’t prepared to let her go yet, because the moment when it all began to sink in, her heart screamed in pain. She isn’t prepared to face the unexpected scenario, but she’s fully aware that it was her who ended their relationship. She let the one true gem slip away. And though it hurts seeing her in someone else’s arms, she must endure it. And so before she could make a fool of herself in front of Ai and the strangers who were looking at her expectantly, before she could explode, before her tears could fall, she must retreat.
“Looks like I’m not welcome here” she uttered and smiled at the still stunned Ai, trying her hardest to hide the sadness that was attempting to explode. After taking one last good look and without waiting any longer for Ai’s response, she turned on her heel and left the scene. And the moment she turned around, she took a deep breath before subtly wiping away her tears.
“Wait! Reina, that’s not what I meant! And where are you going?” dropping the grocery bag she was holding onto the ground, Ai followed the fast walking girl, leaving the three speechless women behind.

Ah why do I feel like Gaki is going to do something stupid and noble when she discovers the truth behind the past of Reina and Ai? Like she will do something daft and suggest that they get back together when Ai was thinking about being with her......
Perhpas though Ai may be chasing after Reina to end things properly, because deep down she knows that her heart is now Gaki's...... though will Gaki stil be aroud when Ai comes back if this is the case....

“Hai... you heard her... let’s get inside...” uttered Risa in a low sombre tone after watching Ai crossed the road and vanished around a corner, obviously in a hurry to follow the woman she called Reina. After what had happened last night, a part of her so wanted to stop her roommate from following the girl but then again maybe last night’s affair was just a plain mistake.
With a solemn mood, she turned around and gently grabbed the grocery bag Ai had left on the ground. Risa’s aura turned a hundred and eighty degree turn after the intrusion. An aura she couldn’t suppress and hide at that very moment, an aura so opposite to the one she was emitting when she and Ai arrived a few minutes ago. Not uttering any more words, she unlocked the door and entered into the house, feeling a vague sense of emptiness inside her.
“Sayu, what was that?” with an eyebrow arching, Eri softly yet firmly whispered after regaining all her senses back and after noticing that Risa’s already gone. The short but meaningful event left the Turtle puzzled. So eager to comprehend the situation that took place a while ago, she faced her girlfriend and began her interrogation.
“I thought Aichan and Gaki-han are now an item?” when the Bunny remained silent, obviously in the state of confusion as well, and wasn’t able to give her a proper explanation, she couldn’t help but give her girlfriend a sharp stare before speaking again “Next time, before diving into something sensitive like this one, get your facts straight or it could cause uncalled for pain!”
“Hai... let’s go” were the only words the Bunny uttered. She whole heartedly conceded for she believes that she’s also to blame. Pure intention she may have in the matchmaking but she hadn’t done a thorough check up.
“And where are we going?!”
“To make sure Gaki-san’s okay inside”
When the couple entered into the house, the sound that the knife makes as it hits the cutting board was very audible. With that, it wasn’t that hard to guess where the Bean was. Glancing to their right, they saw Risa totally immersed in the sea of kitchen work she had created. She was multi-tasking things. Two burners of the stove were running at the same time with a pot and a pan on them while she was chopping and dicing the needed ingredients.
After a brief moment of staring sadly into her girlfriend’s eyes which was reciprocated with the same sentiment, Sayu took the bag Eri was carrying and she gently gestured for her to go ahead and wait at the sofa while she put the grocery items into the right places. She was extra careful not to disturb the Bean but she was sending enough signals to her friend that she isn’t alone and that she’s there in case she needed someone.
Risa, trying to be oblivious of her surrounding, was submerging herself in the kitchen chores with her extra attention to detail. To perfect each dish was certainly not the main intention but she needed something to do to distract herself. She would much rather bear the physical exhaustion than the emotional pain she’s progressively feeling.
After arranging everything, Sayu joined her girlfriend at the sofa but they sat there in silence. They love talking to each other but they know it isn’t the right time to do that because they know Risa all too well, a moment of silence and letting her cook heals her. What they didn’t expect later on was the variety of dishes the cook had prepared, too much for a household of just three people.
The dining room was quiet save for the clanking of utensils once in a while. They were silently eating dinner when the phone rang, making the two jumped a little out of surprise and everyone stopped munching including Risa. She, too, was subconsciously waiting for something.
“Moshi moshi”
...
“Ah! Aichan”
...
“Hai”
...
“I’ll tell them”
...
“Hai.”
...
“Bye. She won’t be home tonight...”
Risa choked up when she heard it. She was listening intently, hoping that she would hear something that could ease her unstable feeling, but her whole world collapsed when Sayu informed them that Ai won’t be home. And gradually it became clearer to her, the strange feeling she felt when the woman appeared… the sense of sadness when Ai followed her… the alarming tightness in her chest upon hearing and knowing that she won’t be home to be with that girl… and the tingling idea that last night’s event was just a one-time affair’s ripping her apart. And they all explain only one thing… she’s definitely in love with Ai Takahashi
Trying her best to hold back her tears, she said her gochisousama and headed to her room in silence. After a moment of looking blankly at her own bedroom door, she shook her head and faintly laughed at her patheticness before finally twisting the doorknob and swinging the door open. But the laugh was only for a brief moment because the time when her eyes landed on her bed she was already wiping away the tears that formed on her eyes. Everything was ringing in her head, from the scene that happened a few hours ago up to the moment when Ai claimed her lips.

When Ai sat up and was about to climb down from her bed just like the usual, getting up to connect their two single beds whenever the younger’s having a bad dream, the younger stopped her.
“It’s okay... you don’t have to do that”
At first the younger’s words surprised Ai because in the past the Bean would always bombard her with whines and would never stop until they’re already sleeping side by side, but tonight scene’s just the total opposite. After a few moments of silence Ai remembered the awkward atmosphere that’s been lingering since the day the incident in the kitchen took place. What Risa had spoken on that day was making her uncomfortable whenever Ai’s near her, and it also affects Ai in the same manner for some unknown reason. Reluctant, she obeyed the Bean’s wish and so she settled back down on her own bed.
But later on, Ai climbed out of her bed and walked towards the Bean’s direction after several minutes of watching the Bean tossing and turning in her bed. And without a word, she gently pushed her roommate over to the other side of the bed that met the wall and lay down next to her.
“It’s almost dawn and we need to get up early” that’s all she had spoken when the Bean looked her way.
A few moments later, the Bean’s chest was already rising and falling, breathing steadily. Peacefully savouring her good night sleep and so the older closed her eyes and decided that it’s her turn to have her good night sleep as well.
“AAAHH!”
“Hey it’s okay, it’s okay, I’m here” shush the older as the younger was catching her breath after waking up from a nightmare again. Sweating, Risa opened her eyes and met her roommate’s eyes. Ai was already holding her face, trying to give her comfort and assurance.
When the younger recovered her normal breathing, Ai pulled the Bean closer and placed her arm underneath the Bean’s neck and made the younger nestle into her embrace. “It’s just a dream and I’m here. Go back to sleep.”
Taken by surprise, Risa’s body became stiff, but the warmth it brought eased her in no time. Ai’s body felt so soft but also safe and so she snuggled deeper into the cocoon of her embrace. Closing her eyes to savour the moment, she unknowingly rubbed her face gently into the older woman’s neck, unaware of her action’s impact.
Ai’s intention was pure. And she’s supposed to be accustomed to the warmth of Risa’s body against her but after putting the Bean inside her embrace, her adrenaline started to kick in. And the warm breath on her neck’s not helping at all, because it’s making her chest heave and her flesh tremble.
“Kiss me?” it was more like a plea than a question, sending electrical impulses too rapidly all over. That’s how it all began, when Risa took all the courage she could muster and asked Ai to kiss her.
Neither of them knew what was going to happen that night when they entered into their bedroom but their eyes surely smiled in the morning when they exited the room.
Risa never expected that reliving the sweetest memory she ever had could make her heartbeat race, her stomach tighten into a knot and could make her shed tears more heavily than a torrential rain.

The sun was nearly half way below the rim of the horizon when Reina decided to get up from the wooden bench she was sitting on. More than an hour ago, she stopped and sat on one of the park’s benches after walking a good distance. Sitting there in silence, her entire attention seemed focused at the sights in front of her. From the two boys who played happily with their dogs nearby, to the couples who held hands while walking on the broad sidewalk at the seawall, to the waves crashing with a gentle rhythmic pulse against the battered concrete partition, and to the sun’s sparkling reflection dancing on the water’s rippling surface. But the truth was these sights never mattered to her, because her mind was consumed with thoughts the whole time. Thoughts of the unexpected event, thoughts of the girl, thoughts of Ai, and thoughts of her life back home.
In the past eight months, she couldn’t deny that she was happy with Hokori-kun, but she couldn’t also deny the fact that a part of her is still being held captive by Ai. Because there were times when she wanted to feel Ai’s embrace instead of his. There were times when she longed for Ai’s strawberry scent rather than his aftershaves. And it felt very wrong every time. And every moment it happens, her urge to see her is soaring up but at the same time she feels it isn’t right. It ain’t right after what she’s done to Ai, and so whisking the urge away was all she could do each time.
But yesterday’s event made Reina swallow her doubts of seeing the girl, because as her man slid the ring on her finger, her ex-girlfriend’s face flashed into her mind. Sure she smiled and said yes, but there was a rumbling sensation all over her body. Be it because of the element of surprise or because of fear to be forever tied she must find out. Certainly she was happy but a part of her was also sad especially when she thought of Ai. Be it because of guilt or love she must know before it’s too late. She must find out if her decision of choosing him was right before her wedding day arrives.
And that’s what brought Reina in Ai’s place, to sort things out. But she was greeted with an unexpected scene, so unexpected that she couldn’t bear to watch the scene for too long and it left her no other choice but to leave without saying proper hellos and goodbyes.
As the clock ticks at a vexingly slow pace while she sat and looked into the horizon, Reina’s heartbeat ticks in double pace. She was sitting there in silence and her companion was doing the same. No one spoke. Reina was waiting for Ai to speak first but more than an hour has passed, her companion was quiet all throughout. She was just there accompanying Reina without a single word voiced. Not a word was uttered, all the more causing Reina to feel fidgety inside.
Finally giving up, Reina mustered up the last ounce of her courage and decided to break the silence, and without averting her gaze from the distant ocean, she started to speak.
“She’s beautiful”
“Un”
The two letter reply was like a bomb. It shattered Reina to a great degree. It made her forget to breathe for a moment because it wasn’t the answer she wanted to hear. A big part of her wanted Ai to explain and to say that she’s still the one she loves and adores. It’s a selfish desire she knows but she was hoping that Ai would say that the girl’s just a friend, that she’s still the one for her. But instead, she got something that caused her already broken heart bleed. The mere sight of seeing Ai with another woman was already painful to her, more so hearing a word that could somehow confirm her fear.
Closing her eyes, Reina started to take a moment to prepare herself. Things have to be done and need to be decided right on that moment. She may hate herself for a span of time, but she knows it would be more painful to hear from Ai directly and more clearly that she does not love her anymore. And so she let her mind work, she began to think of reasons why she needed to do this.
It would be too much to ask Ai back when she knows her own mind would always win the battle over her heart. It would be selfish when she knows she wanted a family that won’t deviate from the norms and it can never happen if she’s with Ai. To her, justifying things seemed easier and less painful than accepting the fact that the love of her life is not hers anymore.
Like a silent sob, she took a deep soundless sigh before opening her eyes again. And like the sky painted in red hues as the sun glided down to earth, her heart was bleeding inside.
“Thank you for being here with me right now… and it’s good to see you again, Ai” that’s when she got up, all ready to leave when she felt a warm hand holding her wrist, stopping her from walking away.
“I’ll accompany you home, Rei.”

“Sayu! You’re naked!”
“Eh?... oh, right. Why won’t I be, you’re here with me!”
“Yeah, but that’s not me in front of your door!”
“Oh! Right!” Quickly hiding behind her bedroom door, Sayu tilted her head while shyly smiling at the woman who appeared at her door. “Aichan! You’re home. I thought you’re out tonight”
“Un, but long story. Sorry, I didn’t mean to disturb you two guys but… have you seen Risa? She’s not in our room and there’s no one downstairs.”
“Eh?! She’s not in your room? I thought she’s already asleep!” turning around to face her girlfriend who was in her bed staring back at her with big round eyes, Sayu continued to shriek “Eri! We’re supposed to look out for her, why you didn’t notice?!”
“Ummm, excuse me… the word ‘we’ is the key there. But yeah! How come we did not notice?! Quick, put some clothes on Sayu~!” Eri joined the shrieking and threw her legs over the side of the bed while tossing some clothes to her girlfriend’s direction.
You two guys relax, I think I know where she is… and thanks!” the oldest then left half running.
“By the way, you didn’t disturb us! We didn’t do anything! But since you’re here now, please don’t come knocking on my door for the rest of the night!” Sayu’s cheerful voice echoed inside the hallway as she informed the woman who was already in no sight, obviously happy.
“Sayu~!”
“What?”
“That was pretty vulgar, don’t you think?”
“You don’t like?”
“Come closer and you’ll find out”

“Ara! A shooting star! Quick! Make a wish!” Ai screeched the moment she saw the star and forgot that she was trying to think of a way on how to approach the girl without startling her. But obviously she failed because something from the object of her vision for the past ten minutes flew away and landed on the ground. It was then followed by a sudden turning of the head towards her direction. Then there was silence, causing Ai’s uneasiness to rise up but she was thrilled to see her at the same time.
“Did you make a wish?” Ai uttered in a bright tone. She couldn’t see clearly the girl’s facial expression for it was dark and so she waited for the girl to speak but all she received was silence and a few seconds later, the girl reverted back her gaze to the sky. That was Ai’s cue, lots of things to explain and so she started by stepping forward and gently grabbing Risa’s piece of cloth on the ground. Sitting next to her, she placed the cloth on her own lap while lifting her eyes up to the sky as well.
“I always find stargazing magnificent because it never fails to widen my vision and it’s very soothing. It helps me remind how life works. It reminds me how enchanting life is, especially when you feel like your life is like a total mess. And tonight’s no different. In fact I find it even more wonderful. You feel the same way?”
When the girl did not respond, Ai paused for a moment before continuing with a more serious tone. “You see, in the past, someone made my life so alive and so colourful. We did a lot of things together, even crazy stuffs like cutting classes, experimenting with different kinds of alcohol, puffing some old men’s cigars, swimming naked even… stuffs that I thought I would never do in my entire life. And of course we did some good stuff too, majority was good stuff. Her name’s Reina… the girl from earlier.”
Ai faced the girl next to her when she mentioned Reina’s name. She was trying to see if the girl wanted to hear more. Risa was still silent, eyes still on the starry sky, but Ai could feel that she was listening.
“She’s my girlfriend back home…” That’s when she saw Risa, moved her head and looked down at her lap. Realizing how she phrased her last sentence, Ai immediately continued.
“She was my girlfriend.” Putting more emphasis on the second word “We were once so happy and so in love… but then something came up, something that drew me into darkness. And the pain it caused kept sucking me into a black hole until it became my home. The pain made me mark a line and forbid myself from involving too much. I stayed inside a shell, not daring to step away from my comfort zone. I stayed in a distance so that I won’t get hurt again. But along the way, something pulled me out of that lonely darkness without my knowing. I didn’t notice that my life’s brightness has gone back until today.”
For a moment, there was silence.
“Legend has it that wishing upon a shooting star makes your wish come true. Do you believe in that, because I do, especially now, in this exact moment. Wanna know what my wish was?" Ai asked and continued "It involves a girl, a very responsible one, mature but childish at the same time. I love everything about her. I love watching her smile, I love watching her blush. I love watching her laugh, I love watching her pout. I love teasing her, I love watching her arc her brows. I even love watching her doing nothing. I could go on but I know there are lots of things I could not put into words. I just… love her… but I didn’t realize it until today. That’s why I asked the star, I wished that I’m not that late realizing that I love you, Risa.”
And there was silence once again.
“I did make a wish too…”
“Yeah? What was it?”
“I wished that you will refrain from making me feel this kind of pain again in our next days ahead because it honestly hurts me pretty badly, will it come true?”
And for the last time there's silence again because it is the end lol
