Yeah, we needed one of these for the "lesser" known artists.
BOYSTYLE disbanded
http://www.amuse.co.jp/artist/boystyle/profile.html
Fans saw it coming. Good luck to Eri and her acting career!
-
lol didn't even know boystyle was still together, haven't heard that name in a couple years.

Ikegami Kei / 池上ケイ

Ikegami's voice reminds me of Nacchi & NAZE? is my favorite song of the day XD
Kei's 2 latest singles (Grow, NAZE?) http://www.sendspace.com/file/0rniry
Um, I'm not sure if it's the right thread and all >_>; Obscure thread is not really for pop artists, isn't it?
-
The obscure thread is dead, and really doesn't have a purpose anymore
-
Ikegami's voice reminds me of Nacchi
That got me interested  Snagged this file! Thanks

Is there any English info anywhere about Sakura Seira? (this (http://seira.tv/) girl)
I've gotten interested in her, but all I see that can give me info is the Japanese wiki.
-
Is there a ranking for japanese music companies?
I remember something like that was posted way back somewhere on H!P Questions, the rankings of the music entertainment companies, with UFA, Avex, Sony Entertainment Japan, Johnny's Jimusho... but I think that was back in 2006 or something...
-
is there another website that's like wiki.theppn.org? like with the latest updates of info on releases, oricon charts, sales and bio. mainly, I want to know the weekly sales of the latest releases...
-
With ThePPN being down for quite a time, some J-music fans started with something similar, still in progress:
http://j-ongaku.org/wiki/Main_Page
However! I heard that there's a good chance that ThePPN will return very soon!

Hi, I was wondering if could anyone help me identify the name of this song and the artist who sang it? Thanks.
AKB48 篠田麻里子は超無敵状態 Shinoda Mariko OPV (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=60sPGyowRFw&feature=channel_page#ws-lq-lq2-hq-vhq)
-
^the video isn't available anymore.. but the song might have been from AKB48? Since Shinoda Mariko is a member of that group.
http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?board=88.0 (http://forum.jphip.com/index.php?board=88.0)
It would help a LOT if the video were still available somewhere :P

The name of the song is called Cherry by Spitz. Quite a nice song. :twothumbs

Does anybody know of a website where I can pay to download some Japanese Hip Hop albums (like i-tunes)?

Polyphonic Experiment in D
Berryz Koubou × Buono! × Watarirouka Hashiritai × Idoling!!!
mixed by DJ Kirarin Snow
Ahahaha. This just proves how stupid it is to quibble over which girl group is better, because they're all the SAME. Got to say though, Rival and the Idolling!!! song were the standouts. But I loved how everything layered. Idolling!!! and AKB48 are really good at using that sort of harmonious choral sound, and I'm a sucker for it.

this guy is FUCKING EPIC!! Look out AYU!

does anyone have any site suggestions that are along the lines of allkpop but for jpop instead?
i like how allkpop mentions commercials, ads, activities, guest appearances, etc for singers.
also how there's news on rookie singers and teasers for everything as well.

I was grooving to an old Moritaka Chisato concert (OK they're ALL "old"). I then hit You Tube to see if my fave song from "Lucky 7 Live" was there. Well it WAS but damn it was a three-year-old upload that looked all worn out compared with the other HD stuff to the side.
So I decided to make my own:
森高千里 「私の夏」 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XrLw1fkBldI#)
"Third Party Content" copyright claims be damned! This is "Watashi no Natsu" and it's #2 on my all-time fave Chisato song list. Enjoy!
-
Saburo san, Chisato is absolutely lovely. And what is freaking me out is I am pretty sure I met her in April when I attended the Up-Front group charity event in Yokohama. I didn't put two and two together until watching your post. But I remember a really pretty and gracious woman who was about 40, and I knew she had to have been a performer, but her career predates when I started following J-pop, so I did not recognize her. I do remember she was very gracious when I thanked her (during the handshake event) and all of the other Up-Front team who came out on that rainy day to raise funds, and she very sincerely thanked me for coming. What a lady!!

What is J-POP? ~ Exposing the myth of Japanese Music Phenomenon

That was a great read...Marty is a serious J-Music fan. I have really liked everything he has done in Japan, and he is a great spokesman for Japanese popular music.

Well, I didn't find any specific thread about Sukima Switch or Naoto Inti Rayni, so let me share my upload here:

A quick google search gave me their official blog: http://ameblo.jp/officecute/ (http://ameblo.jp/officecute/) and official twitter: https://twitter.com/officecute (https://twitter.com/officecute) XD
Never heard of them though :nervous

A friend just sent this link (http://twitchfilm.com/2015/06/crowdfund-this-the-land-of-idols-explores-a-uniquely-japanese-phenomenon.html) about a project looking for funding: a documentary on J-idols.
Color me skeptical, but I wouldn't spend a dime on this. Everyone thinks they'll "get it right." Ahh, I doubt it but good luck to them anyway.
-
How many of you have NHK World on your cable? It's only in big cities, not nationwide, and as far as I can tell the only national carrier is AT&T UVerse.
Anyway, one of the shows is J-Melo, hosted by an English-speaking mixed-race girl named May J. The focus tends to be around JPop. Today, for example, they had performance by C-ute and Morning Musume, first individually and then combined. Conversations are subtitled in English but not lyrics.
NHK World is great for all things Japan but it's particularly good for pop culture. Hope many of you can get it.
-
^ Not me. I've heard it's on Sky in the UK, but not on freeview. I know they sub the programs themselves and stuff, which is nice. They subbed this really interesting early Alice Project documentary, however, only the Japanese version can be found easily on the web :(
-
So NHK World, as mentioned above, has a video on-demand service on the internet now, which doesn't appear to be region-locked!
http://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/en/vod/
-
^ what a great service! I'm already starting
by watching 'Kawaii in My Jeans'! :w00t:
-
I can't watch Kawaii International because the narrator's voice makes me insane.
I used to watch Kyary Pamyu Pamyu's show on that channel but it ran its course. You could always count on her for a cuteness overload.
-
Can anyone ID this group? (dunno if they're even J-idols :P)

just watched Music Japan 05/27/2017 shown in states. guests include Flower, Lisa, a guy duo, Wanima, Aimer, and an older band I am trying to get more information on.
Sounded something like urufu? The song they played was Bakayaro(spelling). Shazam failed me. They're debut was in 1992. from what they showed on the screen it could be for a tv show?

Someone posted a bunch of polls in this 1990s J-pop group (http://mixi.jp/view_community.pl?id=216052) I belong to on mixi: top ten best-selling songs for each year, pick one. I was genuinely stumped when it came to the 1995 list:

Does no-0ne listen to the more eclectic ones like DAM, SiM ... etc

Just discovered a TV performance of one of my all-time underrated 1990s J-pop tunes on The Tube, "200-bai no Yume."
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-iIQmfcG9g
I'd call them a one-hit wonder but I'm not even sure this song even charted, even though it was featured in a national TV commercial.
