Chapter 2: The Student Council Time: 5:48am
Ring, ring. Yuki’s clock alarmed. With her eyes still closed and still half-asleep, she reached for her digital alarm clock that can be found on the right side of her bed. It took seconds for Yuki to locate where her clock was located. Finally able to feel the solid material, she was able to push the off button on the top of the alarm clock. ‘5 more minutes, please.’ Yuki muttered sleepily. She curled her body and hid herself inside her cottony blanket just to avoid the bright beaming of the sun inside her tiny room.
…
Knock, knock.‘Kashiwagi Yuki! Open up the door! Look it is 7:00am where going to be late for school! Hurry and get up your bed… Do not let me kick your apartment’s door just to wake you up,’ Yuki’s best friend, Sae, has been waking her by knocking non-stop to Yuki’s tiny apartment door. ‘Oh, geez! What happened to my 5 minutes? We’re almost late!’ Yuki cursed herself from oversleeping. Only Sae’s knocking and shouting woke her. Quickly, she dashed to her bathroom, took a quick bath, brushed her teeth and wore her uniform. After that, she came out of her apartment and locked it up.
‘Sorry, Sae. I overslept.’
‘We better hurry; we only got 15 minutes before class start.’
‘Ah, yes.’ Yuki nodded.
‘And… Oh, have you brought the camera, with you?’
‘I did not remove to my bag yesterday, so yes. We needed a battery I forgot to say yesterday.’
‘We’ll just buy after school.’
….
Yuki and Sae’ regular class started. First, there were some discussions. After that, they were given quizzes in all subjects except for their PE subject. Yuki got perfect scores. As expected from a scholar and previously one of the top student during her middle school. ‘Gee… I feel exhausted. I want food,’ Yuki rubbed her hungry tummy and looked at Sae, whose sitting in front of her. Yuki tapped her in shoulder.
‘Sae? I am hungry. I want bento. Let’s go to school’s food court.’
Although, Sae did not seemed to hear what Yuki said. She was busy looking outside the window with a dreamy-like face. Therefore, Yuki leaned over the window to see what was Sae’s looking at. ‘What’s interesting out there that you are ignoring me?’ Yuki asked as she scanned the place. Yuki’s short question snapped Sae from her dreamland, finally noticed Yuki’s presence. ‘Uh… Nothing particular,’ Sae changed her sitting position and faced Yuki, ‘What was it, again? Food?’ Yuki nodded.
Before they go to food court, Yuki made another glance outside the window. She only found several track and field players practicing. However, what caught her eyes is someone who is tall, longhaired and with a body of athlete, practicing long jump. She is amazing, Yuki thought. She wondered if this was what Sae’s looking at. Maybe Sae wanted to join a sport club, Yuki thought again.
…
While the two of them walked through the corridor, they were suddenly called by their sensei. Their sensei asked if they already chose a club to join in. Sae and Yuki looked at each other and then back to their sensei in front. ‘We haven’t,’ Yuki responded. ‘Oh, dear… You must hurry and choose your club. This school requires all students to join and participate in club. Here are the forms,’ The sensei gave the forms to Yuki, ‘Just go to the student council to pass it or you can also asked the president for the entire list of clubs here… In addition, I have a request, if you ever see Watanabe Mayu please give her a form too, so you would all be able to join. Thank you.’ The sensei excuses herself, and then goes to one of the sliding doors, the so-called faculty room.
‘So, what do think?’ Sae asked.
‘I don’t know. I never join any club in my entire life.’
‘How about joining a sport club?’
‘I don’t really know if it’ll work out. I have never been good with sports. Maybe I should pay student council a visit.’
‘Ok. I’ll go with you.’ Sae smiled.
‘No, no, no,’ Yuki swung her right index finger from left to right as she then pointed it to Sae, ‘You, you will look for the creepy Watanabe and I’ll be going alone to the student council.’ Sae’s eyebrow twitched as she gave Yuki a face of disapproving, ‘But–,’ Sae was about to contradict her decision, however Yuki sealed her index finger to Sae’s mouth. ‘Shhhhhhhhhh…. No more buts. Just do it,’ Yuki smirked and went away before Sae could say another word. As Yuki run, she looked back to Sae, waved her hands, and said, ‘See you at the student council!’ Poor Sae, being bullied by her best friend.
…
Following Yuki, she was running to nowhere. Where could be the student council located? Yuki never thought that she‘d get lost on her way. ‘Jeez… I should not leave Sae behind after all,’ Yuki talked by herself, feeling that karma already hit her. She cannot bear to talk to Watanabe Mayu. She creeps Yuki so much. Her eyes were looked dead and the aura in her was not normal. Thus, she forced Sae to find her.
‘I should look for someone to ask where this student council is.’ Yuki decided to look for someone and tried to open single door she could find. The first door she found was… a school gym. Of the entire place she can find, why a school gym? Yuki wondered. Anyway, she still went inside and looked for someone who can give her a hand. Yuki’s attempt to go inside was never a waste, she found someone. To her surprise, she saw someone familiar to her. It was the longhaired she had seen doing long jump practice. In close up, she looked very beautiful, her sunburned skin even added some factor. Amaze by her beauty in a close distant, Yuki was put in daze.
‘Can I help you?’ She asked, putting Yuki back to herself.
‘Oh, I am very sorry. Your beauty stunned me. I’ve never seen such a beautiful person before, to tell you the truth.’
‘I get that a lot. Thank you.’ She laughed at Yuki’s complement. ‘The name is Akimoto Sayaka, from class 2-B. Can I ask what brings you here? Interested in joining our club?’
‘Kashiwagi Yuki, from class 1-B. Unfortunately, no. I got lost on my way to student council. If ever, can you tell me where is it located?’
‘Not a problem.’ Sayaka said. ‘I, myself is also on the way to student council.’
‘Thank you, really.’
…
In front of the student council
Sae and Mayu were still both outside the student council room. Sae was wearing her grumpy face. It took Yuki quite a time to go to the said meeting place and that annoyed Sae. A moment later, Yuki and Sayaka arrived in front of the student council. ‘Why didn’t you guys went ahead?’ Yuki asked them. Sae spoke and said in all blunt, ‘We were waiting for you, duh. You have the registration forms our sensei gave us earlier.’
Yuki was not really paying any attention to Sae’s complains. She just suddenly feels chills down her spine as she saw Watanabe. ‘This isn’t great. I totally forgot about Watanabe. No single complain from her unlike Sae. I feel like being cursed for making her wait?’ Yuki thought to herself.
‘I’m sorry! I got lost!’ Yuki apologized and bowed repeatedly in front of them and more to Mayu. Sae only laughed at Yuki. ‘What’s gotten to you? You’re acting weird all of a sudden– ’
BAM! The student council door opened before Yuki could even say a word to Sae. A short girl wearing ribbon appeared and said, ‘What’s with the noise all about?’
‘Hi there, Takamina.’ Sayaka greeted Takamina first. The short girl responded back with a ‘hello’ and asked Sayaka what she needs, completely ignoring the three lads. Sayaka asked if there some request of new members and Takamina answered, ‘Oh, about that, yes a lot of new freshmen.’ Sayaka thanked her for the information and bid a goodbye to Takamina and to the other three. Takamina’s attention was now focused on Yuki, Sae, and Mayu.
‘What do you three need?’
‘We were here by our sensei recommendation.’ Sae answered. ‘We were told that the student council holds the list of cub we may join in, so we would like to see it and be able to choose.’
‘Oh, from class 1-B, right?’ Takamina asked. All of them nodded.
‘Well come in. Everything is prepared for you.’ A shorthaired girl appeared at Takamina’s side. She smiled at them and motioned them to enter inside. As they go inside, they were put in complete silence and were amaze by sight. They could not believe that the plain sliding door would reveal such a luxurious place. The wall was coated with apricot color and has somewhat square and round prints, the chairs and tables were old-fashioned looking, the curtains are pure white with golden strips on edges and the whole floor was covered with a large red carpet. ‘Seriously? Did we just teleport somewhere else?’ Yuki wondered in amazement. She just cannot believe that a student council room was decorated with European-style furniture.
Their silence was broke when the shorthaired girl asked them for a tea. She was holding a tray of cups and offered it to them. The aroma of the tea smells delicious; it is not the regular tea you can just buy anywhere. ‘Rich people,’ Yuki muttered, silently. The three of them grabbed a cup and they were asked to take a sit while Takamina prepared the papers.
‘I’m Maeda Atsuko, by the way. I’m the president of this student council and that short lady,’ Atsuko pointed at Takamina, ‘is the vice president, Takahashi Minami. Just call us Acchan and Takamina that is what students call us.’
‘I’m not short,’ Takamina blurted out.
‘Oh, really? If you start drinking your milk then you won’t be called short.’
‘Oh, just stop embarrassing me in front this freshmen!’
‘Why would I do that?’ Acchan laughed. ‘Midget!’
‘I’m not!’
‘Yes you are!’
Takamina reached her limit and was annoyed. A little tear had formed in her eyes from annoyance and she took a deep breath to help herself not to cry. On other hand, Acchan, Yuki and Sae laughed but then eventually stopped. Acchan stopped teasing her as she noticed Takamina’s silence. After that, it was as if nothing happened. A little discussion about clubs was discussed by Acchan and Takamina. Sae and Mayu already picked beforehand so they were just sitting back unlike Yuki still have not picked.
‘Do you have any hobbies?’ Takamina asked.
‘Hmm… eating?’
‘Then why not try Cooking club – ’
‘I suggest not to! She is genius but not a cook! Yes, she can boil eggs but you wouldn’t want any explosions, right? Sae suddenly cuts in with her exaggerated statement.
‘Hey, how rude of you Sae… At least I can boil eggs. You can also call that cooking, right Acchan?’ Yuki looked at Acchan but she kind of avoid it.
‘Uh… How ‘bout a Photography Club?’ Acchan suggested to Yuki. ‘It is a newly created club and has 2 members at a moment, – not that I’m saying they’re in need of members or campaigning them – you might want to try.’
‘A photography club?’ Yuki asked herself. ‘If I joined this club then I can learn how to talk pictures and might even track the mysterious stalker.’ A simple thought of Yuki.
‘Sure, I don’t mind. Let me join this club.’ Yuki said without thinking twice, took her registration form, and signed it. After that, Acchan collected the registration of Yuki, Sae and Mayu and looked at it.
‘Oh, Yuki, You would not be alone after all.’ Acchan smiled. ‘Mayu picked the same club too.’
‘E, which club?’ Takamina asked Mayu.
‘Photography club,’ Watanabe answered.
