interesting article from actors getting their ass kicked by Donnie

Andy On battles Donnie Yen in a narrow corridor

Andy On Chi Kit and Donnie Yen Chi Tan in THE LOST BLADESMAN (GUAN WON CHEUNG) had major scenes of crossing five passes and slaying six generals. He held nothing back as he fought until he was all battered and bruised. With the strongest in the universe Lord Don in sight he was merciless. Afterward even his girlfriend Jennifer Tse Ting Fung's heart ached upon learning how crazy he was.

In one scene they fought in a narrow corridor. In the midst of their fight, they still carefully minded their horses around them. Trying to avoid injuries, the degree of difficulty was extremely high. Finally On Chi Kit in order to protect a horse in the narrow corridor bruised his arms on the walls around him. Reportedly Ting Ting understood that her boyfriend would be fully involved in every action scene, which often worried her. Speaking of this narrow corridor scene, On Chi Kit said that it was an exciting performance. He said, "This scene took over ten days, the most difficult of which was accommodate the horses that we were trapped with us in the narrow corridor; because horses were easily spooked, when Lord Don and I fought, we often had to spin and couldn't take another step. We had to be careful so the horses didn't harm us. Thus everyday the shoot took a long time."

As for working with Yen Chi Tan for the first time, On Chi Kit said that he was somewhat worried at first. He said, "I earlier often heard people describing Lord Don with the strongest in the universe, which left me somewhat frightened. However after one or two days at work we became very familiar very quickly. He not only was not arrogant but took great care of me." Chi Tan also had nothing but praise for On Chi Kit and even said that he could be a successor in a new generation action film.

Wow Donnie's like 48 now.

Unfortunately, there's too much CGI in martial arts films today so I'm kinda wary about them especially those in a historical setting. Except for Yip Man, that is.

Yip Man 1 & 2 were pretty good in terms of fight scenes, although I have to say I liked the 1st one better when he goes up the 10 Japanese karate guys.

But for those who haven't seen his earlier movies, like SPL, do it now.

I remember that scene in SPL where he's fighting in that narrow alley with a retractable baton...that was pretty cool.

But one of the most hectic fight scenes (no CGI my friends) has got to be between him and Jet Li in Wong Fei Hung 2 (otherwise known as Once Upon a Time in China II)

That was when he and Jet Li were young and much 'fitter' than now (ie prime of physical life).

lol what, just randomly searching for movies and found Donnie Yen and Stephen Chow in a TVB collabo. He's the Western Cop to show the Hong Kong cops how they do it in America ("I popped uzi's vs gangstaz!") Even has Francis Ng as the bad guy. Of course he has to go topless (as I heard he did at the recent Cannes Film Festival) lol

Your typical cop flick that gets pretty damn long for a TV Movie but intense stunts.

check it out. The Last Conflict (1988)

...even weirder. Donnie did a string of TVB series in the early 90s. Prolly when he was just getting in the industry and Jet Li was dominating.

that's Hong Kong for ya! work nonstop!

Donnie Yen trains son to be his successor

Donnie Yen Chi Tan two days ago attended a video game ad press conference in Guangzhou. He honestly said that he did not have time to play games with his son. Instead he would be with the children more on outdoor activities. He also revealed that his three year old son had quite a desire to perform, thus he wanted to wait until he was older then he would teach him to become his successor.

Chi Tan in the game played a chief instructor. In comparison to making a movie, he thought the kung fu in the film was not as stringent as film. Many criticized online games as unhealthy, Chi Tan urged everyone to know the proper balance. "You can't say playing games is unhealthy, game is one of the products that prove the society is improving. I am busy so I don't have time to play games with children. In general we would do some outdoor activities and I would get an understanding of their daily school experience more. Since I treat myself like their friends, I would communicate equally with them more." Chi Tan also said that the best gift for the children was to participate in the children's lives. "My son is three year old and has never seen my movies. I used to think it's in his genetics. My son is amazing, he has quite a desire to perform. When he gets older I will teach him. He will be my successor." As for the three roles of good actor, good father and good husband, Chi Tan honestly said that good father is the hardest. Ultimately he and the children have age differences, and they keep maturing and changing. He has to grow up with them at their pace.

With the success of IP MAN, Chi Tan keeps on getting film offers. Yet he has not worked himself to death because he would like to play some characters that everyone has never seen. In addition he would like to spend more time on his children, thus he asked for time off. Has he thought about giving up acting? He confidently said, "Absolutely not. Chinese kung fu film is a very valuable film genre. Since I still have some influence, why not keep expanding it so it can keep getting international recognition? Most recent WU XIA's Cannes word of mouth has been great, the overseas media's generally good review is very rare. As a part of it, I am very proud."

EPIC!!!

68 Year Old Jimmy Wang forces Donnie Yen's hands

In Peter Chan Ho Sun's film WU XIA, the sect leader role did not have much screen time but was an important character. He once wanted Chow Yun Fat but he knew that Chow Yun Fat might not take it. However at the time he could not remove Chow Yun Fat's face from his mind until art director Yee Chung Man mentioned Jimmy Wang Yu. Because Big Brother Wang thought this character was good, he lowered his salary and said that one dollar was enough.

Wang Yu revealed that the first day of work originally was not so smooth, after communicating with the director he realized that Donnie Yen Chi Tan was taking care of him. He said, "On my first day I saw my double and I was very angry inside, treating me like an old man. Although I am already 68, every morning I would run for 40 minutes, lift weights for 100 repetitions and do 100 push ups. At the time I went over to Chan Ho Sun and said, I wouldn't use a double, let me fight, even wire work would not be a problem for me. Yet Chan Ho Sun told me, Yen Chi Tan was not the most afraid of me unable to complete the action but of not daring to strike me. He hoped that I would forgive him. Later in one scene he needed to strike at me, I directly went to him and viciously upset him. If he was not vicious, then I was. Later I upset him so he began to fight."

Donnie Yen's encounter with gays in Italy

It’s not just girls who find Donnie Yen attractive.

The Hong Kong superstar had a close encounter with gays at a party held by Dolce & Gabbana in Milan, Italy recently.

Two hunky models approached the action megastar at the event and their hands started wandering as they talked. Yen, unaware of their intention, continued to exchange pleasantries with the guys, until they were pulled away by an event personnel who later told Yen that his new friends were actually gays.

“They are very friendly,” he said with a laugh, adding that his wife Cissy Wang was one step ahead of him in realizing what the models were up to.

“I don’t mind befriending gays. I would be glad to have gay fans. It’s such a huge market. It’s a good thing to have people appreciating me,” he said.

Donnie Yen praises Tang Wei as better than Lynn Xiong

Donnie Yen Chi Tan and Tang Wei earlier appeared on a Mainland site Sohu to discuss the Peter Chan Ho Sun directed WU XIA. Playing a couple with Lynn Xiong (Hung Doi Lam) and Tang Wei, how would he rate these two "wives"? He stated, "Hung Doi Lam is a little taller than Tang Wei, but Tang Wei's performance was more than a little better than Hung Doi Lam's." Yen Chi Tan said, Tang Wei very obviously was a very excellent actress. No matter whether they would have a chance to work on another action film, working with her on this film her concentration and professionalism were unforgettable for him.

In addition, Tang Wei while making WU had to wear wet clothing everyday. For continuity she had to wear it for 10 to 20 hours. Aside from acting, she also had to have endurance. Thus Chi Tan praised Tang Wei and looked forward to working with her on another action film with him as the action director.

LOL! man of all trades

Donnie Yen turns to music?

Donnie Yen Chi Tan for the Lunar New Year film ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL 2012 (BAK SING PO HEI) played a rocker and let go along with co-star Sandra Ng Kwan Yu for comedy. After his earlier rock look his new song's music video was released today to celebrate the New Year.

Chi Tan with long hair and a guitar reprised Sam Hui Koon Kit's classic hits GENIUS AND IDIOT and GENIUS IDIOT DREAM and was quite a pleasant surprise. Even his wife Cissy Wang joked, "I have never seen my hubby like this!" She joked that with just a glimpse she thought Chi Tan changed nationalities.

Chi Tan who changed from his always serious ways was very satisfied with his look. "Originally when boss (Raymond) Wong Pak Ming asked me to play this character, I was supposed to be a soccer player. However I regained my confidence in music so I suggested the change to a rocker. I spent two months before the shoot on guitar practice, my friends said that I played convincingly. Hopefully viewers would like
it."

Reportedly, Wong Pak Ming was interested with the film's DVD release to release a solo record for Chi Tan to fulfill his singer dream. Chi Tan humbly said, "This time I am just messing around so I have no pressure, but I really never thought about invading the music scene. I don't think I am ready yet."

Actually when Chi Tan was working on television he already performed a series theme song. More than a decade later, he again returned to the studio for acting. Chi Tan still thought it was refreshing. "Hui Koon Kit is a singer who I have always admired. Being able to sing his work, I am very happy. (Will you compete for the music rookie award next year?) I wouldn't mind, but the most important is for viewers to see my sincerity."

Donnie Yen helps the government disinfect new building

Donnie Yen Chi Tan yesterday worked on the upcoming film production 3D THE ICEMAN COMETH (3D GUP DUNG KEI HUP) poster. Producer and investor Stephen Shiu Jr. revealed that the film production cost reached US$20 million because of its many large scale scenes. The production already received an approval for a four hour shoot on the Ching Ma Bridge, and even planned to shoot location at the Government House and the new Government Headquarter for the ending. As for the new Government Headquarter virus, Chi Tan said fearlessly, "We can help them disinfect."

Chi Tan said that the rumor of him making 200 million was exaggerated. "I didn't count, I left it all for my wife to handle." He reiterated that he did not feel he made a lot because actors all looked glorious on the surface. In addition the performing art life would not be long, the more he worked the more he got. Was his next target the Best Actor award? He said, "I haven't deliberately thought about becoming the Best Actor, but I hope to try different characters." For example in the comedy ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL 2012 (BAK SING PO HEI), he claimed that he performed without holding back and hoped the audience would like it. Speaking of the Tony Leung Chiu Wai starred THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) still has no release date yet, would he make another IP MAN? He said, "I wouldn't make another one after someone else's is released. Actually I am still brewing, when the time arrives I would make it again."

can't STOP won't STOP! Back to basics, Donnie don't sell out!

Donnie Yen takes on Vincent Zhao for viewers

Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Jing Tian, Vincent Zhao Wenzhou, Zhang Hanyu and director Clarence Ford (Fok Yiu Leung) yesterday attended the action film DUT SHU SUN FUN (SPECIAL IDENTITY)'s production start press conference in Beijing. Chi Tan will even be the film's producer and action director. The event displayed a highlight of Chi Tan's classic action scenes so the live audience could experience "Yen Kung Fu" dominance. Chi Tan hoped to create an action film classic in "triple identities".

This would be Chi Tan and Zhao Wenzhou's first collaboration. They admired each other and even looked forward to their fight scene in the film. Chi Tan stated that he would as the "action director" design several "brilliant" fight scene for him and Zhao Wenzhou so viewers would have fun. As the producer, he joked that "producer" actually was "hard work" (homonym). He actually would learn from director Fok Yiu Leung and participated in the shoot like an apprentice.

Golden Horse Award winning Best Actor Zhang Hanyu has always appeared in a courageous and cool tough guy image and rarely made action films. Working with two kung fu superstars Chi Tan and Zhao Wenzhou, he looked forward to this film the most this year.

As for fight scene break through, Zhang Hanyu said that he would "pick up a few tricks" and revealed that he has already begun his action training. This time has been very tough but he looked forward to the fight scenes that Chi Tan would arrange for him.

STALKERS!! UNITE!

Donnie Yen attracts thousands in Shenzhen

Donnie Yen Chi Tan two nights ago worked on the Clarence Ford (Fok Yiu Leung) directed film DUT SHU SUN FUN in Shenzhen. Because they had to shoot a pouring rain scene, three blocks were blocked. The team yesterday posted notices that detailed the production date and location to inform nearby residents.

The notice achieved the opposite effect though as the notice was posted online. Two nights ago fans flocked to the location as almost 1,000 people gathered. Some even looked at from nearby roofs.

Chi Tan never expected such a turn out and even he was surprised. He urged everyone to pay attention to safety. Director Fok Yiu Leung might have expected the situation, thus he arranged for almost 70 person security team to maintain order. He said, "The security team included powerful locals and the police. Security would be very steady."

For the rain scene, three large water trucks and many workers participated. Chi Tan in the film played an undercover officer. Two nights ago he appeared in a mobster look. Famous tattoo artists spent four to five hours on him.

DUT not only starred Chi Tan also also Vincent Zhao Wenzhou, Zhang Hanyu and Mainland star Jing Tian. Fok Yiu Leung pointed out that because the investor really liked Cih Tan, the investment had no upper limit. He admitted that at first Chi Tan worried the watch and the chains would be scratched during fight scenes. He asked for counterfeits instead but the boss did not mind. He told Chi Tan to fight and not to keep it in mind. Chi Tan was not only an actor but also an action director. Earlier he secretly trained Jing Tian for a week and praised her potential.

The film will shoot in Shenzhen and Hong Kong. In Shenzhen the wired action scenes on the roof would be shot as well as a five car crash with six HK$600,000 luxury cars. Five would be totalled and one would be the back up. Later the team will shoot in Hong Kong and even use a helicopter.

ITS ONLY NATURAL! wonder if they gonna have Bruce Lee in full.

Donnie Yen to return as Ip Man in 3D "Ip Man 3"
Posted: 09 April 2012 1607 hrs

HONG KONG: "Ip Man 3" script writer Edmond Wong revealed last week that Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen will return as martial arts master Ip Man in "Ip Man 3", which will feature 3D visual effects, reported Hong Kong media.

This has been confirmed by Yen's publicist, who said that Yen "is looking forward" to working on a 3D "Ip Man" film, and had entered into preliminary discussions with the film's producer Raymond Wong, though he "had not yet seen the script".

Edmond Wong further revealed that "Ip Man 3" will see Ip Man's famous student, martial arts legend Bruce Lee, play a big part in the story, though Ip Man will remain the film's central character.

"What is certain is that the film will begin with Bruce Lee becoming Ip Man's disciple. As for who will play Bruce Lee, we will have to do a large-scale casting exercise.

"Stars like Aarif Lee and Danny Chan are suitable and have played Bruce Lee before, but we are looking for a 16-17 year-old Bruce Lee. They may be a little too old. It is all up to Wilson Ip (the film's director) to decide," said Wong.

"Ip Man 3" producer Raymond Wong, added that the film will have a much bigger budget than "Ip Man" and "Ip Man 2", as it will feature fight scenes enhanced with 3D effects.

"Ip Man 3" will be the third film in the "Ip Man" series of martial arts films, which have done exceptionally well in the box office and had sparked a renewed interest in Wing Chun, a form of martial arts practised by Ip Man.

The film is scheduled to go into production at the end of the year.
