:: BIOGRAPHY
ORESKABAND
IKASU: Guirar & Vocal
TOMI:Bass & Vocal
TAE-SAN: Drums
SAKI:Trumpet
MORIKO: Sax
LEADER: Trombone
A teen girl sextet from Osaka, ORESKABAND is taking Japanese pop music scene by storm with their "entertainment ska rock"!
ORESKABAND was formed in 2003 when middle school classmates Ikasu, Tomi, Tae-san, Saki, Moriko, and Leader got together to start a band. They started playing at local clubs and quickly built following with their energetic live shows and colorful personalities.
They started recording their own material and released their first album "PENPAL" in 2005 while expanding fan base outside their hometown through live shows and appearance at local music festivals. A&R reps from record labels caught the underground vibe of the band and in 2006, the band was signed to Sony Music Japan while still in high school.
From performing at local venues, ORESKABAND has gone on to get recognition on a national level as media started introducing them. In an exceptional move for a new artists, their song "Hana no Ska Dance" was used for the TV commercial for POCKY, a very popular Japanese candy. Even more surprisingly, the girls themselves appeared the commercial, which was shot while they were performing on a moving train. The unique TV commercial showcasing their fresh ska-pop sound and lively personalities have gotten them into limelight.
Juggling the role of high school students and recording artists, ORESKABAND completed their debut mini album with six tracks entitled "Ore" in March 2006.
The band went on to record, this time with trombone player/Ska legend Rico Rodriguez for his tribute session album "JAPA-RICO = RICO RODRIGUEZ MEETS JAPAN" on their cover of Ska classic "MONKEY MAN".
In July, their debut album "Ore" was released and gathered massive amount of critical acclaim. Following the album release, the band performed at prestigious annual FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL attracting more than 1000 audience, a record for a new artist.
Their popularity is rising high in Japan but the band is not willing to stop there. In March 2007, ORESKABAND is set to perform for the first time in the US at SXSW music conference, followed by club dates in Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Single comes out in a month.. that's too long.
You're right, that's too long XD
Good to hear we'll be getting more from them though!
-
oreskaband will come back to the US (or rather... the west coast) in the second half of august on the WARPED TOUR:
8/17 Boise, ID Idaho Center Amp
8/18 Seattle, WA Gorge Amphitheater
8/19 Portland, OR Columbia Meadows
8/22 Fresno, CA Selland Arena
8/23 Sacramento, CA Sleep Train Amphitheater Lot
8/25 Los Angeles, CA Home Depot Center
-
When I saw that they was going to be on warped tour, I was excited. Maybe one day they will come to DC ::)
-
Isn't the Home Depot Center by Streak's house? lol. I wonder how big its gonna be. Anyone who's been to a Warped Tour wanna share some info? I'd rather be at a live house, but an open area should be interesting.
There's also speculations that they'll be at AX, but I haven't found sources. AX hasn't really updated their site with schedules.
-
Oh shit they're on warped tour! In The Home Depot Center!!! In my hometown! XD
Fuck Yeah!
I was planning on going to Warped Tour this year anyways so this is just awesome!
The bands in warped tour usually play a set of around 5 songs or something. There's usually like 5 or more stages. The bigger bands play in the huge stages like what you see in most Rock Festivals and the lesser known bands play in smaller stages which can range from the band playing on the floor to something like a live house.
Ore ska band will most likely be playing on a small stage. Last time I went to warped was like 3 years ago and there was a stage that had only ska bands that played on the floor so you were actually able to walk into the band lol Maybe they'll play there XD
Also schedules aren't really known to the public until the day of so if you there's a certain band you must see, I recommend getting there as early as possible as the line to get it can take up to like 2 hours x_X
-
New Bleach ending.

Tsumasaki perf from CDTV is YouTubed, with all of it's play-along-with-backing-track glory. Should have been live, dammit.

Wow already have the new album upped, I was supposed to post info on it the other day, but my browser was fucked and I had to leave so I just didn't bother trying later XD
Anyways, Thanks!
-
I grabbed it this morning and listened to it at school. It's fun, as expected, but it feels like it'll get repetitive in the long run like most ska. Anyway, out of the new songs, U has to be my favorite.
Don't underestimate us, tama!
-
The AX show went well on their part. The assigned seating totally messed up what could have been a really good show. Felt like they didn't connect as well with the crowd compared to Japan Nite. They performed well, but I think they would have done better if the crowd was closer to them. Obvious how some of them wanted to go to the edge of the stage to the people but there was a hueg space in between, lol. Shows how much of a audience oriented band they are.
Ikasu's tone is too bright! I know it's a telecaster and all, but my ears were hurting when she hit higher notes on the solos. Probably because of the size of the arena, though.
I regret not asking the guard dude to let us in backstage, dammit.
-
nah, the venue sucks for rock shows. I never liked big venues/arenas when going to a rock show. Security seemed pretty tight when it came to forcing you to leave the arena when the show is done. >_>
But I don't think they actually cared about the assigned seating as long as you don't take someone else's seat. Near the end of the Haruhi event, I went to the floor about 20-15 rows from the front and all the staff did was tell me to take a seat while I was walking down the aisle.
-
i regret not accosting them through the gate when we saw them outside! im also pissed that the fact that they were having an autograph session later in the day WAS NOT MADE CLEAR... bastard AX staff
-
lol, that's lame, it looked like they were leaving. I was so tired that day it felt like I got beat up through a fence!
I was hoping to see Saki wandering around, so that I could challenge her to Tetris DS. So much for that idea..
edit: some pics from the report/staff blog
(http://xs117.xs.to/xs117/07272/200157724.jpg)
It looks like there were a lot of people, but there was actually a lot of empty seats scattered throughout that tenkei and I wanted to move up to. Damn staff preventing us!
Everyone took out their phones and DS during Almond.
lol they look like mobsters. oooookini~
-
leader fell down during one of the early songs, fell hard and dropped her trombone and everything, but she jumped right up like a trooper!
-
Looks like they are releasing a CD (http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/2780607) and DVD (http://www.hmv.co.jp/product/detail/2780624) on October 22nd.
-
