Kinda feel sorry for some of these nominees, cause "There Will Be Blood" and "No Country For Old Men", will blitz the awards..

^ Certainly seems like it. Wonder if the award ceremony will end up like the Golden Globes. Don't see it happening.

Daniel Day Lewis and Javier Bardem will snag the actor statues, I'm unsure about the actress awards but i'd totally love to see Ellen Page and Saoirse Ronan win (though unlikely since Page is nominated for a comedy, and Ronan is so young). Best director will go to either Julian Schnabel or Paul Thomas Anderson. Best pic goes to either No Country or There Will be Blood, No Country wins for me, but Blood has the edge.

what else...

oh, hope Diablo Cody wins for original screenplay, Juno's script was so fucking awesome. and Sicko should win best Docu. And obviously Ratatouille will get animated film o_o I don't really know about the more artistic awards though lol...

I really don't think they'll cancel the show like the Globes. The Oscars are so much bigger than the Globes and held in such high esteem. Most of the actors are even saying that there NEEDS to be a ceremony and are rallying for it. If they have to cancel the show due to the strike, the writers will lose just about all sympathy they had.

Ratatouille definitely has won the animated flim award. It was good, and I heard a lot of talk about it. I've never heard of Persepolis, and surf's up was borning.

i've not seen persepolis, but i've seen some stuff on it and i quite want to see it (maybe ill see if there's a screener of it up). surf's up was okay, ratatouille was better (but not as great as everyone says, imo)

EDIT

^ Persepolis kicks some serious ass, and would definitely get my vote..
Now it isn't a Disney kids flick (not even bloody close), which might hinder it's chances of getting the award, but it's the best animation story I think I've ever seen..

:bump:

Thought it's about time to do some predictions, since I've now watched a bunch of the main nominated movies..

Best Picture
Prediction: There Will Be Blood
Hopes will: No Country for Old Men

Best Director
Prediction: Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood)
Hopes will: Joel Coen and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men)

Best Actor
Prediction: Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood)
Hopes will: Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises)
(Would be happy if Johnny Depp or Tommy Lee Jones won (think the final scene killed Tommy's chances), but definitely not Clooney)

Best Supporting Actor
Prediction: Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men)
Hopes will: Casey Affleck (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford)
(Thought all the nominees were excellent, so any of them would be fine..)

Best Animated Feature Film
Prediction: Ratatouille or Surf's Up
Hopes will: Persepolis
("Best Animated Feature Film" = "Best Kids Feature Film", and Persepolis therefore won't stand a chance)

Gotta go and download some girlie films... Go Cate!!

I heard that the writers' strike is over, is that true? If so, we're gonna get our Oscars for sure, right? :D :D :D Kekek.

yeah, theyre already running promo spots for the oscar's broadcast, so its a pretty safe bet that the ceremony will take place. supposedly they settled on an interim agreement the other day.

My Oscar picks:

Quote
Best Picture
Atonement
Juno
Michael Clayton
No Country for Old Men
There Will Be Blood

I think this is the first time I actually enjoyed all five movies. However none of the movies blew me away and my favorite movie of 2007 is still American Gangster. No Country for Old Men seems to be the favorite but personally I prefer There Will Be Blood.

Quote
Best Director
Julian Schnabel (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly)
Jason Reitman (Juno)
Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton)
Joel Coen and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men)
Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood)

'No Country for Old Men' vs. 'There Will Be Blood' Part 2. PTA managed to make a 3 hour long movie about a boring subject interesting so he deserves to win.

Quote
Best Actor
George Clooney (Michael Clayton)
Daniel Day-Lewis (There Will Be Blood)
Johnny Depp (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street)
Tommy Lee Jones (In the Valley of Elah)
Viggo Mortensen (Eastern Promises)

Are there even any other notable nominees besides DDL? I think not. Mortensen's performance would have been Oscar worthy some other year but 2007 belongs to Daniel Day-Lewis. The Oscars are rigged if DDL doesn't win  :yep:

Quote
Best Actress
Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth: The Golden Age)
Julie Christie (Away From Her)
Marion Cotillard (La Vie en Rose)
Laura Linney (The Savages) (haven't seen)
Ellen Page (Juno)

Marion Cotillard had the best performance of the year but I still want Page to win because she's totally boss  :P

Quote
Best Supporting Actor
Casey Affleck (The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford)
Javier Bardem (No Country for Old Men)
Philip Seymour Hoffman (Charlie Wilson's War)
Hal Holbrook (Into the Wild)
Tom Wilkinson (Michael Clayton)

Affleck, Hoffman and Wilkinson all delivered amazing performances but I chose Bardem because he's the ultimate badass in 'No Country for Old Men'.

Quote
Best Supporting Actress
Cate Blanchett (I'm Not There)
Ruby Dee (American Gangster)
Saoirse Ronan (Atonement)
Amy Ryan (Gone Baby Gone)
Tilda Swinton (Michael Clayton)

Blanchett better win. She was already amazing in 'Elizabeth: The Golden Age' but she absolutely owns 'I'm Not There'. My all-time favorite performance by Blanchett and overall one of the most amazing performances of the year. Ruby Dee and Tilda Swinton don't even deserve to be nominated but I wouldn't mind seeing Amy Ryan win.

Quote
Best Original Screenplay
Diablo Cody (Juno)
Nancy Oliver (Lars and the Real Girl)
Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton)
Brad Bird (Ratatouille)
Tamara Jenkins (The Savages) (haven't see)

Diablo Cody got this shit on lock  :yep:

Quote
Best Adapted Screenplay
Christopher Hampton (Atonement)
Sarah Polley (Away From Her)
Ronald Harwood (The Diving Bell and the Butterfly)
Joel Coen and Ethan Coen (No Country for Old Men)
Paul Thomas Anderson (There Will Be Blood)

Quote
Best Animated Feature Film
Persepolis
Ratatouille
Surf's Up

Easily the weakest category this year. 'Ratatouille' was average and I absolutely hated 'Persepolis'. 'Surf's Up' is the only movie I enjoyed but it doesn't even deserve to be nominated. I guess the academy forgot that The Simpsons Movie came out in 2007

Quote
Best Art Direction
American Gangster
Atonement
The Golden Compass
Sweeney Todd The Demon Barber of Fleet Street
There Will Be Blood

My favorite movie of the year needs to win something  :yep:

Quote
Best Cinematography
The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford
Atonement
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
No Country for Old Men
There Will Be Blood

'The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford' might be boring as hell but it's still one of the most visually stunning movies I have ever seen.

Quote
Best Original Score
Atonement
The Kite Runner
Michael Clayton
Ratatouille
3:10 to Yuma

I'm a sucker for epic movie music so Atonement is my favorite.

Quote
Best Makeup
La Vie en Rose
Norbit
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End

Quote
Best Film Editing
The Bourne Ultimatum
The Diving Bell and the Butterfly
Into the Wild
No Country for Old Men
There Will Be Blood

Quote
Best Sound Editing
The Bourne Ultimatum
No Country for Old Men
Ratatouille
There Will Be Blood
Transformers

Quote
Best Sound Mixing
The Bourne Ultimatum
No Country for Old Men
Ratatouille
3:10 to Yuma
Transformers

3:10 to Yuma has the greatest gunshot sounds ever  :pimp:

Quote
Best Visual Effects
The Golden Compass
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Transformers
