Hi Dan,
Thank you so much for posting all this great music. There is a great many of us enjoying it. We play it at our Senior Crafts day every Thursday and its always a great hit. Song people haven't been able to hear since they left Japan, or memories of people remembering there parents loving "that" song, etc. It is truely great to have them all.

We were wondering if you could go back and look at Omoide No Melody 2, because the music uploaded does not match, it is much older, mid-late 40's and includes people like Kirishima Noboru.

Also, we noticed when you do the Romaji on things like "Shoji Taro" you write "Shouji Tarou". The "u" are not needed, when you read the japanese character it means to give the "o" a longer sound, not to add a "u". We just wanted to let you know you didn't need to add it to the translation, haha, it is not needed and not really translated correctly that way. And please don't take it as being rude, we just wanted to let you know.

Thanks again!

And we will try and figure out how to load stuff up ourselves.

Omoide no Melody 2...

Are the songs and artists totally wrong?

The way it worked was, a guy on usenet had a load of cassettes but all the titles were in Japanese so he had no clue what they were and didn't want to post them with no titles, so...  He sent me scans of the cassette covers and I sent him the titles in romaji, then he uploaded them.  He must have uploaded the wrong one or sent me the wrong scan or something.  There's nothing I can do about that now.  Since he bought them from a 2nd hand store that one might even have had the wrong cassette in the wrong case.

I wrote it like that because in hiragana it was しょうじたろう.  There's various different methods of romanisation, Hepburn, wapuro, etc, Tōkyō vs Toukyou etc, and I get the impression nobody seems to be able to agree on a standard so I don't think one method is any less correct than any other.

Yes, the songs did not match any of the tracks on listed for Omoide No Melody Vol. 2, but that is okay, haha, we enjoyed them just the same.

I personally did not know there were many different ways to do the romaji, myself, I can't read that many characters, haha, but our temple seniors couldn't figure out why it was being done that way, even the ones who used to do translation for a living, haha. Is this a "newer" way of translation? Most of these people (and myself included) still translate the way we were talk 50-60 years ago, haha.

But we didn't want to imply that you were wrong and we didnt want to sound negative, we just wanted to try to save you some typing.

Thanks again.

Ok, he found the cassette and compared it with the version of Omoide no Melody 2 that we have and it doesn't match, so he's going to encode the cassette and soon we'll have the real Omoide no Melody 2.

Now the weird thing - he has no clue where that other set of songs came from.  He's checked his cassettes and it doesn't match any of them.  ZipperSweaters75, do you know any of the artists or song titles of the 'wrong' Omoide no Melody 2 that we have?  If I have enough information I might be able to find the details.

Hi Dan,
I'll take a listen again, I am pretty sure I was familiar with the song title and artist for atleast half of them. But let me listen again before I post.

Thanks for that.  Unfortunately my googling skills failed me and I wasn't able to find a full tracklist online.  Normally I can google a few of the artist names and song titles and easily find the album.

The best compilations I ever got for 70s J-pop/Kayokyoku were from Sony (the "Golden J-Pop" series, among others).  Other titles were of the geneirc variety ("Omoide no Hit Parade").  A lot of my fave seventies stuff came from these discs which included the best of:

Go Hiromi
Candies
Yamaguchi Momoe
Saijo Hideki
Sawada Kenji
Finger 5
Tulip
Downtown Boogie-Woogie Band

And so on.  Great karaoke stuff -- just lookit all the tunes covered by H!P.  Any particular artists you're after?

I guess I'm more into the 70s idol pop.  Also some of the "enka" around that time, which blended very well with the young stuff.

I keep meaning to upload some of my stuff.  One of these days...

Hi,

I am a total newbie to the Japanese music scene outside more modern J-Pop and OSTs from Anime and the such but I am decently versed in Japanese culture as a whole. My Mom was born and grew up in Okinawa around the war and remembers the music of the 60s in Japan when she worked on base when she was in her twenties. I found and got her a "Best of" from the 50's but I can't seem to find anything close to a Top 100 or Top 50 of the 60's in Japan. I am looking for something similar to the Top 100 Billboard Hits in the US but for Japan.

Any help at all pointing me to an actual CD or CD set that I can get my Mom for her birthday would be much appreciated. I don't care if I have to import it but it has to be on CD so she can play it. She doesn't do well with MP3s ;)

Thanks!

That's the end of the low quality files.

Just want to say I love this thread. It is hard to find songs on the internet from the 1960s.
Just wondering if this is all you have from the 1970s? More from the 70s would be great :)  :cow: :inlove:

No, sorry, I don't have any 70's compilations.  I seem to have concentrated on collecting the older stuff and neglected the later years.  Anyone else is free to post stuff, if they have anything.
