I am also very interested in the 70's era have some records but unfortunately none of them is compilations (also most of them in the contemporary folk genre). But I especially love Morita Doji's Goodbye album. She has such beatiful and melancholic voice. That's my favourite.

Goodbye (1975)
Tracks:
01. In Early Spring
02. You Are Changed
03. Dazzling Summer
04. Rainy Crawl Swimming
05. Horizon
06. Sentimental Street
07. Lonely Clouds
08. Tango No Sekku ''The Boys' Festival''
09. A Shower
10. Good Bye My Friend

I love 70's era too.

Thank you for reminding me Morita Doji, I've got some songs of her.

You should try to listen to Yumi Arai.
You may know her songs if you've watched Kiki's Delivery Service from Hayao Miyazaki ...  :)

Well, I'm a fan already. Yumi Arui -or Yumi Matsutoya as I knew her-, one of the first artist that make me interested in Japanese oldies. Her 雨の街を is still my favourite. Thanks for the suggestion though, I am interested to learn new artists from that era. Especially those with beatiful voices and a melancholic touch like Yumi and Morita.

Here is another one to thank you for this wonderful topic by getting registred here.
About 7 years ago, I found 2 nice 45 rpm records made in Japan. A friend of a friend identified them for me: One is Peggy Hayama, the other one is Naomi Sagara. I really fell in love with those records, especially the Hayama. Right there, I searched on the Net for them and found very little. Recently, I had another look and I found these posts!
You don't know how happy it made me to hear new stuff from both of these ladies ! You made my Weekend!
Thank you again !

Dan, Thank you for all the great recordings you've posted.

I was especially interested to hear the song that you had talked about being so good that you played it on repeat for an hour! (Suizenji Kiyoko (Arigatou no Uta, Disc 2, track 14 on the "Showa Era TV & Radio Theme Song Collection")

However, the URL for Disc 2 of the "Showa Era TV & Radio Theme Song Collection" (which is listed as: http://www.mediafire.com/?h2aztonywnm) does not work.

Could you please provide an updated/corrected link for Disc 2 of the "Showa Era TV & Radio Theme Song Collection"?  Thanks very much!

Thanks again for all the great music you've made available.

Emy Jackson, born in England, and of Japanese/British Heritage, made a big splash in Japan in the 60's.

Thank you so much for posting these. I am doing my senior degree project (thesis) on how Japanese music was influenced by American melody and language. I'm starting my research back to the 60s, the post-war era. :)

During the interlude, when the camera backs up and you see the band playing and Emi and Yumi are twirling around... :w00t:
It's like a bridge from the big band era to the modern pop music scene  :cow:
