Those eight players will include Hee-Seop Choi of the Los Angeles Dodgers, who was added Friday to complete the field, representing Korea. He joins Philadelphia's Bobby Abreu (Venezuela), Pittsburgh's Jason Bay (Canada), Atlanta's Andruw Jones (the Netherlands), Milwaukee's Carlos Lee (Panama), Boston's David Ortiz (Dominican Republic), Detroit's Ivan Rodriguez (Puerto Rico) and Texas' Mark Teixeira (United States).

"I only have six home runs," the Mariners outfielder said before last night's game. "The players that enter the Home Run Derby have the good numbers to go in. I told them, 'If I had 20 homers I would enter.' I don't."

I guess you have to respect his decision. Even though I want to see him in there so bad. oh well...Hee-Seop Choi better represent Asia to the fullest!

Texas' Mark Teixeira (United States)

GO MARK TEIXEIRA!

I'm not a Yankee fan but it still seems strange to think of an ALL-STAR game without Derek Jeter.  Jeter has gobs of fame and will certainly be elected to Cooperstown in the future.

And how come fans from Japan didn't come through online for Gojira?  Weird...

Just read that Bret Boone was dealt to Minnesota for a player to be named later.

I wonder if Seattle will eat most of Boone's contract?

5-0 so far for the AL.

Great HR by Tejada and Ichiro got 2 RBIs :D

ETA: wow. AL wins again,  but close 7-5. big surprise. Tejada MVP.

Michael Young, Mark T., Alfonso Soriano and Kenny Rogers represented the Rangers well.

Nationals....who?

Ichiro messed up on that one play where they threw him out..

Tejada sounds like Sammy Sosa, they both don't pronouce T's or something.

Overall the game was alright, of course I wanted a blow out till Rogers fucked up.

Most impressive in all the praise now being heaped upon Palmeiro: he's never been on the DL.  He's played 150+ games every year (excluding the strike years).

At this stage of his career, though, he should be a platoon player.

WOOT!! Congrats to Palmeiro!! He's definite Hall of Famer. Doesn't matter if he got All Star selections, he was up against some pretty stiff competition back in the day - dude is just consistent!

Nomo no more?
« Reply #79 on: July 18, 2005, 02:05:51 AM »
I read that Hideo Nomo was "designated for assignment" by the Tampa Bay Devil Rays yesterday.  This basically means he's going to get released in 10 days unless some other team picks him up.

Nomo said that returning to NPB is not an option so it's all or nothing at this point.  Getting released by the Devil Rays at this stage in your career can't be a good thing.

He's got a lot to be proud of, though.  Nomo was probably the number-two most dynamic rookie pitcher in Dodger history, right behind Fernando.  For me, the most impressive accomplishment for Nomo is the no-hitter he pitched againast the Rockies in Coors Field in 1996, the one and (still) only no-hit gem ever pitched in Denver.
