venom might not even be in this movie. they might just introduce the symbiote and have the whole film about spidey and the symbiote with the main villain as sandman and possibly even having harry get involved somewhat as the green goblin 2. then spidey will get rid of the symbiote at the very end with eddie finding it and leading up to an all out spidey vs venom clash in spidey 4 :D
it just sounds like they are trying to squash way too much into the film if they are going to have venom as a villain as well. as much as i'd love to see venom on the big screen i'd rather that they take their time leading up to him so they get it right and don't rush it.

Well you might be right. And usually I like when character's get time to evolve and grow, but Venom is something that I've waited for since the announcement of the first Spider-Man movie, so I guess I'd be little disappointed even if it means better Venom action in the fourth movie. Are there any official info about Venom's part in the third movie?

I had completely forgotten the Lizard Scientist. I hope he gets a part in a future Spider-Man movie. Imo he's the second coolest villain after Venom and Carnage.

venom seems too good to be in the same movie as green goblin though. maybe they should wait till harry osborn's dead or something and make venom the next main villain...

From the trailer you can tell it will have Sandman, Green Goblin, Venom. Can they do it in a 2 or 2.5 hr. movie?

Is the blonde girl in the trailer supposed to be Gwen Stacy? I thought she died when Spidey was just starting his career. Even if its in non-continuity, it's still a must see movie. I hope to see more fight scenes and less talk.

Yeah, she's supposed to be Gwen. I'm gonna be surprised if Harry doesn't kill her in the movie. I don't think they are gonna continue that storyline past the 3rd movie because otherwise they would probably have to make Venom kill Gwen.

i'm also very excited about this...actually i have a copy of the secret wars issue where spidey first gets the symbiote, and yeah i'm kinda disapointed they didn't keep to the same outfit for this movie, but still...sandman will be freakin sweet with the CGI....looking forward! heres hoping carnage is in the 4th movie!

they chose kirsten dunst to play mj because shes not that pretty. spiderman is a nerd. u really gotta think about this. who in their right mind would marry a nerdy looking guy like peter parker. I think it fits perfectly.
And heres my prediction for spiderman3. Gwen stacy gets killed by hob goblin, harry osbourne, and spiderman lets venom engulf his mind. And he pretty much goes for a revenge run but realizes he isn't that kinda person. And then he fights off the venom and eddie brock gets it and he has to stop him too. of course, sam raimi will make wat i just said, into a masterpiece.

She's the quintessential "girl next door". Sure, she's not the supreme knockout that, say Kiera Knightly or Charlize Theron are, but for the character of MJ, you don't want a supreme knockout, because it's just not believable that Parker would be living next door to Kiera or Charlize. You want someone wholesomely pretty like Kirsten.

Quint has seen VENOM!!! SPIDER-MAN 3 Comic-Con panel!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here from the floor at Comic-Con. I just saw the SPIDER-MAN 3 presentation and had to tell you about.
Panel included Sam Raimi, Thomas Hayden Church, Kirsten Dunst, Tobey Maguire, Bryce Dallas Howard and Topher Grace. They teased us about not bringing footage, then finally unleashed upon us.
Guys, Venom is ****ing great... Let's start with him...
The footage opened with Topher dipping his fingers, crossing himself in a church. He looks completely distraught, eyes red... he looks like life has beaten him down. His voice wavers and he prays. He's alone in the church. He asks God for his help. "Please kill Peter Parker." Then a bunch of stuff happened that I'll get to in a second. The trailer ended with Topher and Venom.
There was a montage of quick clips of Tobey Maguire at the top of the bell tower ripping the black suit off him. The SPIDER-MAN 3 logo comes up and you think that's it... but then we saw some unfinished effects of the symbiote dripping down, falling towards Topher Grace who is looking up. One drop falls and hits his right hand, immediately wrapping around his hand. The bulk of the symbiote hits him and wraps around him, pulling him to the ground, totally engulfing him. A cut and the camera is low to the ground a good distance away. It Raimi-cams EVIL DEAD style towards the black bulking mass. As it gets near the mass, Venom's head whips up looking straight into camera, which doesn't slow down and ends up rushing into his mouth where it goes to black.
Venom's face. Exactly what you want to see. Big, big toothy mouth, bright white eyes. Looks just like the later McFarlane Venom face.
The design looks great, Topher was great in the church sequence as Brock... Count me totally psyched... I'm updating this story with the rest of the footage, but wanted to share the Venom stuff right away! Stay tuned!

Comic-Con 2006: Venom Revealed!
July 23, 2006 - Without a doubt, the most anticipated part of Sony Pictures' presentation Saturday at Comic-Con International in San Diego was its panel for next summer's Spider-Man 3.
Attending the packed presentation were director Sam Raimi and producer Laura Ziskin, along with the film's stars Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Thomas Haden Church, Bryce Dallas Howard and Topher Grace.
Raimi finally (and rather anti-climatically) confirmed that the new villains in the film are indeed Sandman and Venom, and that James Franco's vengeful Harry Osborn will not be playing either the new Green Goblin or Hobgoblin in the movie.
Raimi debuted never-before-seen footage from Spider-Man 3, although a good amount of it was unfinished. CG animatics were in place of final special effects sequences in certain places but the rough nature of the footage did nothing to deter the responses from the thousands of fans that saw it.
The footage, which was was cut as a trailer, begins with Peter Parker looking at his reflection in a mirror and then slowly revealing the new black Spidey costume underneath his street clothes. "All will be lost," we are told before we find Topher Grace's Eddie Brock praying in a church. And what is he asking of God? Why, to kill Peter Parker, of course!
The rest of the footage included battle sequences between Sandman and the police, as well as between Harry and Spidey. There are shots of love interests Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy, as well as shots of both Peter Parker and Eddie Brock becoming overwhelmed at different points by the black symbiote suit. The trailer ends with the "money shot": the first look at the CG-animated Venom in all his vicious glory!
Fan reaction to this exclusive peek at Venom was through the roof. (Sadly, the panel only showed the new footage once.) Many of these wildly enthusiastic reactions were articulated during the Q&A session with Raimi and company that followed.

July 23, 2006 - Every year San Diego holds one main event for the fans. Last year we were treated to King Kong and Tenacious D. This year we got Sam Raimi and Spider-Man 3. In front of a packed house of 7,000 rabid nerds, Raimi brought out the stars of his movie: Kirsten Dunst, Bryce Dallas Howard, Thomas Hayden Church, Topher Grace and Tobey Maguire all joined the blockbuster director.
Simply put, Raimi tore down the house with a sneak preview of the movie. He played a clip that took everything from the original trailer and extended those moments. We discovered who threw the pumpkin bomb. We see more of Sandman and what seems to be his motive in the movie. We see more of Peter Parker's anguish.
And we see Venom.
Venom
In many ways, a quote from Aunt May is going to frame the entire film. At the start of the teaser we saw, she says "Uncle Ben would not want us to live with revenge in our hearts." This not only applies to Peter's losses in the first two movies, but also to Eddie Brock's history and childhood.
"I had been objecting to the lack of humanity [in Venom]… in studying him I gained an appreciation for him," said Raimi. "Venom has always been a character that the fans love… that's why he's in here."
While Raimi described the basic inclusion of Venom, Topher Grace provided the key element which made Venom the right villain for this third installment. Grace mentioned that Eddie Brock is a similar character to Peter Parker. He is a mirror to Parker in many ways with both of them working at the same place and having the same tastes in women. The difference between the two is that Eddie Brock has a terrible childhood.
This version of Venom's alter ego seems to be an amalgamation of Venom stories. The core universe's Eddie Brock is a peer of Peter's, though not necessarily a mirror. The Ultimate version is more of a Peter but without a sense of morality. The cartoon's Eddie Brock was relatively faithful to the comic, though his origin varied, as did the core Venom from his ultimate counterpart.
The extended San Diego preview clearly established a sequence of events. Although not directly tied to the "origin of Venom" scene, we do see Eddie Brock in a church, praying to God for the death of Peter Parker. A theory here is that the "Dark Peter" steals Gwen who happens to be Eddie's love interest. Venom first appears in the trailer when Peter drives the symbiote from his body via sonics. The creature then leaks down from the tower, landing on Brock, who then turns into Venom.
The facial design of Venom seemed pretty solid for such an early state. The artists clearly took inspiration from those who designed the character originally. Much of the trademark features remain, including the tongue. The trailer seemed to show a sleek Venom, though it remains to be seen if something in this movie version allows him to grow in size (mass, not height). We will see what other powers he gains or carries over from the symbiote's time with Spider-Man.
The panel that followed the trailer revealed one other semi-major plot point: at some point, Venom captures Mary Jane. We know it's absolutely the most shocking thing you've ever read, but we live for twists like this.
Sandman
We did not learn too much about Sandman save for three facts - he gets owned by Black Suit Spider-Man, he seems to be a sympathetic villain (or perhaps an anti-hero), and he looks incredible.
Sony showed a promotional poster that depicted Sandman bracing himself for some sort of assault. The picture shows his back, and we can see he is pushing a child behind him. Thomas Hayden Church mentioned that his character has a wife and family, so perhaps Sandman is attempting to save his son.
It is also important to notice the timeline that is established by Peter Parker's suit. Unless he drives the suit and "regains" it (which is very possible given the comics), then we can see that Spider-Man has a huge battle in the subways and sewers prior to losing his suit. The trailer showed several battle pieces including one where Spider-Man is holding Sandman's head against a speeding subway car. As the car passes, it smashes and destroys more and more of Sandman's face. Another moment seems to show Sandman being flooded by water and being sucked into a device.
And the special effects were very impressive, despite the fact that we have nearly a year to wait.
Peter Parker / Spider-Man
Peter, you are a bad, bad boy. Even in these two glimpses, we can definitely see a Spider-Man that is more vicious and willing to do what he wants and what it takes to get the job done. He begins to fall for Gwen. His tactics against Sandman are rather ruthless (despite Sandman's relatively invulnerable status).
And just who threw that pumpkin bomb at Harry's face? Peter Parker… unmasked, and in his black suit.
Tobey refused to go into detail about Peter's insanity, but clearly he's going to sink to some new lows.
Revenge
If we had to choose one word to capture the essence of the first Spider-Man film, it would be "loss." "Responsibility" would seem to sum up the second. From what we've seen, "revenge" seems to be appropriate for this third installment. Eddie seeks justice against Peter for unknown crimes. We're wondering if Sandman is trying to save people from a darker Spider-Man. Peter Parker himself is seeking revenge for all the wrong done to him in his life. Likewise, Harry Osborn seeks to balance his life by seeking retribution. Sam Raimi was quick to point out, however, that Harry becomes neither the Green Goblin nor the Hobgoblin (speaking of which, you guys, Harry Osborn was never the Hobgoblin in the comics, so give it a rest). Raimi indicated that Harry straddles a line that hovers near sinking to his father's chaos, but doesn't quite get there. The guilt over his father's criminal legacy creates a balance to his desire for vengeance.
We can't wait to see where things go from here. Sony unveiled promotional posters for each character at the panel. Mary Jane's depicted her tangled in a web that was made out of some sort of barbed wire. Gwen Stacy was shown in college, studying hard. Venom was shown, tortured by his monstrous existence. The trailer was merely a teaser, showing us footage that was still in a very rudimentary form. Despite that, we saw amazing potential, and the peak at Venom demonstrated that visually Raimi's team knows what it is doing. We might be worried about the story, but again Sam and his group have a great grasp on some excellent character traits and designs. If Eddie Brock is shaped correctly, he could easily become a character that lives up to his popularity level.
May 2007 cannot come fast enough.

Venom is in the movie. Also there were special trailers that did show Venom at the end of the trailer. They were up on youtube but they all got yanked down.
it was about a 5 second view of him and he comes screaming right in fron of the camera as it ends and he is at the clock tower.

I saw another trailer when i went to watch casino royale. It's basically all about Sandman and Spiderman symbiont crap. It felt like Sandman really got set up or something. I felt bad for him in the trailer LOL.

Nah, He said they couldn't be together, but MJ chose to be with him in the end. She skipped her own wedding if i remember. I remember the cheesy "Go get em tiger" line in the end. I really don't like Kirsten Dunst.
Gwen Stacy is in Spiderman 3. In the comic book, Green Goblin supposedly kills her by throwing her off a bridge. I doubt that will happen in the movie though.

Reading the IGN article reminded me so much about how I loved the comics as a kid.
I still remember the issue when Spidey is the the church as the bell rings, the sonics causing tremendous pain for both Spidey and the symbiote. Finally, the symbiote leaves his body, and we see Peter lying unconcious, with blood dribbling from his ears. The visual impact of those panels was incredible.

Well, Villains look awfully boring... I really hope there's Venom to save the movie. Because this trailer really made clear that without Venom the third movie would be just the same as the first one and we've already seen that.

I was pretty dissapointed with the trailer, it tells far far too much of the story, I was in the cinema when I saw it, and I just wanted to close my eyes because it was showing toooooooo much. in any case, wouldnt it be better to show just a snippet and tease, so that the audience has something to look forward to, rather than promising the world, and maybe not deliver?

Watched it a few days ago. I liked it.
More Venom than I thought (because the earlier posts from this thread made me think it would be like 4 seconds of Venom coming out screaming like a girl and shaking the camera before showing the end credits... no, that doesn't happen). And there was just enough action.
But I thought there was some annoying over-the-top acting. especially the crowd/reporters near the end, that totally took away the pace from the fight (very bad).
Also many useless, to the main story, scenes that you'd expect would be deleted scenes found in the DVD special feature section. Not the Mr Jameson bits though, they were canned but hilarious comedy! :D
Biggest thing missing, I didn't see enough symbiote spidey action. I'm meaning stuff that showed the raw anger/power from the change. A few action scenes of him in the suit doing in normal baddies would've made it sooo much better. Instead, the only difference i saw was the color.
But, I liked it. ;D

Saw Spiderman 3 recently, i like it, funny how he acted when he was affected be the venom, u know acting all kool and all and with the dancing. the entire audiences laughed at that part. good movie overall. Huge opening weekend though, $148 Millions and about $350 Millions worldwide for the first week. THAT IS UNBELIEVABLE. but alot of good movies is anticipated for the upcoming summer. pirates and harry potter and shrek among others. can't wait.

I've just watched spiderman 3,,, how to say it, it was really kick-ass movie ever! the effect was amazing,,, I really like the part when peter fought venom and sandsmand, it was really awesome!

i went to watch it with a friend, she didn't really like it, same with my bro.
well, i loved it, the fights are seriously great and well made. Too bad the sound was a bit too loud in the theatre.
But what sticks in my head is that dancing part XD

Also what he said to Harry when he came to his house as badspidey was pretty funny too.

The first thing that must be said is how damn hilarious the fact that Spiderman turns into an emo is, the whole brushing down of the hair really cracked me up.
Well for 2/3 of the film I really really enjoyed it but by the end of the film I must say that I was very disappointed. I don't wanna analyse every aspect of the film and comment on it as I'd be here a while but the thing that started the downfall of the film was the appearance of Venom, he was v.poor. Now I've read the comics myself and in previous films the storyline has been altered quite considerably, I've no problem with that whatsoever. What does bother me is when characters are changed completely, Brock's hatred for Spidey was there...but that was it, other than that there was nothing remotely similar to his character in the comics, slightly annoying.
I don't wanna sound like a purist or anything as like I've said I've no problem with them adapting things as it's got to be done really, buty some things were changed unecessarily and didn't work imho. I feel I'll bore people if I go on any longer so I'll stop (except that it was exceptionally gay making Sandman Uncle Ben's killer.) So yeah, not a terrrible film but considering how much I enjoyed the first portion of it I couldn't help but feel disappointed as I was leaving with the final third of the film really not appealing to me at all.

- Mary Jane: My career sucks because I suck. This is the worst thing that could ever happen to anyone.
Peter: Yeah erm... I'm going to go risk my life for strangers. Perhaps you could say go gettem tiger or something encouraging of a similar nature?
Mary Jane: No.
- Peter was really out of character when he told Gwen to kiss him when he knows Mary Jane is watching. And he was going to propose soon after? Stupid.
- Why the hell didn't the butler come out with the truth two movies ago?! Sure as hell would've saved Harvey from that nasty scar and personality change. Heck, he may even still be alive! If I was Harvey I would've punched the butler in the face right then and there. God I thought that was so stupid.

I think that because the movie needed to be targeted at a broader audience, the storyline must be simplified and triggers needed to be made (for me, most of them felt lame). And they wanted the audience to be able to understand it just by watching part 3, and not part 1 and 2.
This was the trigger for the ending fight, so it was needed.
Just think the opposite. What if it happened earlier! we wouldn't have their cool fights beforehand. and the kitchen dancing....ahem..
But it doesn't matter that much, the movie as a whole was nice. :D
