i've just watched Scandal First Live DVD for the first time today. I never had the chance to see it before. it was good to see the girls performing from the early days, and it was brilliant. I don't understand why Jasia class them as a pop band, when they are clearly a rock band. Mami is just fantastic on the guitar.
All 3 of their concert dvds are awesome. The first 2 are really cool, since they play in small clubs. For a rock band, I love that small intimate setting. Obviously the Budokan show is a lot more "produced", which is nice too. Speaking of live shows, it's just a few more days until the Osaka-jo Hall live. It's being broadcast later the same night, so hopefully it'll find it's way online quickly. Can't wait to see it (I assume it'll be released on dvd/blu-ray later this year as well).
As for them being labeled pop, I get the feeling it's cause they're girls. For a lot of people, a rock band seems to automatically mean a male band, which of course is ridiculous. Scandal is, and always has been, a rock band. Blame it on people not knowing, or caring, about actual genres. Sure, a lot of their songs have a poppy edge to them. Still doesn't make them any less of a rock band.
