Apparently, all the AKB groups combines have pledged 500 million yen and are asking fans to donate toward the disaster relief.

For now, I'm going to believe this since I trust tokyograph way more than tokyohive.

All the donations are awesome  :twothumbs
They sure need the help now that it's getting cold and they're running out of everything in the tsunami regions (as people keep reporting on NHK).

This is a nice collection of links for basically everything (streams, information, maps, webcams...)

not sure if it's a tour shirt, or a fundraiser for the earthquake relief:
http://www.direngrey.co.jp/on-lineshop/index.html

pretty tight at almost $100 bucks USD a pop; not sure if it's their own idea or the management, either way, i hope parts of the proceeds will goto the disaster relief effort  :thumbup

Japanese exchange students in Norway have started their own fund raising initiative (in collaboration with the Norwegian Red Cross).

They have their own facebook page, and they've gotten lotst of media attention :)

Red Cross writes on their websites that these students collected more than 35.000Kr (about $6200) in just a couple of hours yesterday. That's awesome. Lots of people have contacted them about helping out, so much so that they've been forced to decline more volunteers! I'll keep my eye out for them and help them out if I can~

My sisters and I are organizing a happy hour/dinner event to raise funds to benefit those affected by the disaster.  We're planning on having it Apr 9, Saturday evening at Tortoise & Hare in Northern VA.  I'll post more details as we work them out.  If you're in the area, stop by.  :w00t:

@twissie: That is so great to hear.  I feel hopeful.

Japanese exchange students in Norway have started their own fund raising initiative (in collaboration with the Norwegian Red Cross).
In addition to this, there was one here in Toronto as well, with exchange students making onigiri to 'sell' on Tuesday. Apparently $6600CAD was raised just from that 'sale' (10 of which was from me 'cuz that's all I had on me at the time), which lasted on 2.5 hours.

(not my picture)

There's supposed to be another fund raising event this weekend, though I'm not sure what it is exactly; will report back soon.

Also, a rather meaningful blog entry from Masuda Yuka, a member of AKB48, on the earthquake.
Music. Masuda Yuka
I had a sudden thought.

"Now, during the large scale power cutbacks,
not being able to listen to music is just.."
"I want those in the disaster struck area to listen to their favourite music.."

The power of music is really mysterious. Just hearing your favourite song fills you up with an unbelievable amount of energy.
This time, those still in the disaster struck areas probably have the sounds of the earthquake tremors or the terrible sounds of things falling still in their heads.
If we went closer,
even we would probably not be able to offer any courage.. When I think that, this time spent at home feels wasted, like I shouldn't be here nor let it pass.

Watching the news makes my tears endless, so I've thought many times of just turning it off.
But the truth must be faced..
It's no time for us to be looking away.
Some news program said this: "Even though those in the affected areas are doing their utmost to live, those of us who are fine, what good is it for us to be negative! Even though now is when we should be taking charge of Japan.."

That's exactly right; those of us who are able to live our normal lifestyles must lift our heads high with the feeling of lifting up Japan. There must be many things that we can do.

Today I became happy to hear news of many people being rescued. I was moved by the strength of the human spirit.

We are only able to say "Do your best!" but
I pray from the bottom of my heart
that even one more person may be able to survive and reunit with his/her family and loved ones.

If you feel lonely, please try humming your favourite song.
Music should be able to connect and save people!!

Hoping that everyone will have a smile on their faces..

That's pretty incredible stuff, like what we can do if we just step up and get the ball rolling with these kinds of grassroots movements. I too just dug whatever cash I had in my pocket and gave to em, just having the dialogue with total strangers about supporting one cause - really shows how compassionate we are. Fuckin proud JPH!P, keep it up! ALWAYS!!

GREAT KIMMY!! Wish I could be there but wow, that's really awesome.  I'm a RT and help spread the word when you do it up.

Here are some key hashtags to remember:

#Jishin: focuses around general earthquake information
#Anpi: a hashtag for the confirmation of the safety of individuals or places
#Hinan: Evacuation information
#311care: a hashtag regarding medical information for the victims
#PrayforJapan: A general hashtag for support and best wishes for victims of the crisis

This is just simply heartbreaking:

I can't imagine the pain they must be feeling.
