America, early 1900's. The era of the cowboy is coming to an end.

When federal agents threaten his family, former outlaw John Marston is sent across the American frontier to help bring the rule of law. Experience intense gun battles, dramatic train robberies, bounty hunting and duels during a time of violent change.

Red Dead Redemption is an epic battle for survival in a beautiful open world as John Marston struggles to bury his blood-stained past, one man at a time.

Developed by Rockstar San Diego, Red Dead Redemption is coming for Xbox 360® and PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system on May 18, 2010 in North America and on May 21, 2010 in Europe.

Anyone else looking forward to this game as much as I am right now? Getting rave reviews right now, haven't seen anything less than a 9/10 right now.

I already know what's going to happen though. People gonna hate on this like they did with GTAIV. All the hype raised expectations on what people thought it could be and when they don't meet those unrealistic expectations people get disappointed. I'm essentially looking at this as GTAIV in the Wild West. Which is great for me because I think GTAIV is the best in the series.

If anything, I'm excited that I maybe get to live out certain Roland Deschain (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roland_Deschain) moments.

I think this one may be great, but I am more interested in Mafia II right now. Considering this western theme never appealed to me, that's not hard to understand.
I believe the only western movie I enjoyed was Unforgiven but even so, that movie is so great that I believe it is way being its genre.

Two of my cousins are buying this game, so I'll probably get it from one of them when they finish it.
But still, it does look fenomenal and knowing Rockstar's reputation, I think that at the very least, it'll be really damn good!

I'm disappointed by the lack of a PC version. It does look like it could be fun, though, and a nice change up from the GTA-style universe. Here's hoping for a PC version next year.

I'd love to play it, the setting alone makes this exceptional, I loved western movies as a kid, but sandbox games are time consuming beasts, I'd never finish it, I'll pass.

I can't wait for the game to come out next week. The  Game Stop near me is doing a midnight release party.

Apparently there's an achievement in this game if you tie a woman to the rail road tracks.

Even hunting animals looks like hella fun! That's all the gameplay I need to see. Can't wait til Friday.

Wow Brad is terrible at it! I was fairly easily taking out 20+ dudes at bandit hideouts and he gets killed by a couple guys trying to hide behind a rock. XD

Game is pretty fun so far a few hours in. Love the feel of the horses and the guns have a much more "meaty" feeling than GTA.

The random encounters are hard to judge sometimes. Like a bunch of guys will go running or riding by and it's hard to tell what your supposed to do. I saw some guy being dragged screaming for help so I killed the people that had him only to find out they were the law and he was a criminal. So as a result my honor was tanked and I had a bounty. :/ Hunting/skinning/gathering is kinda grindy/tedious. I don't really seek it out anymore, just kinda do it as the opportunity comes along but I think there are some good rewards.

As people have said the world is really pretty at times. I jumped on top of a train at high noon and just rode around looking at all the scenery.

Want... to... play... must resist the urge... I bought GTAIV and played it for 3 hours then never played it again.

It's Brad we're talking about here! A guy so attached to video game deaths that there's a page entirely dedicated to it on Giant Bomb

I would probably hold off, It's veeeeeery GTA-ish in the mission structures. I'm worried I might have a similar thing as with GTA4 where I get half way through then loose interest. Only to go back months later to finally finish.

Got my copy today. There was something entirely appropriate when playing the game with a bit of facial stubble, in a tight fitting pair of jeans and having the sun beating down something fierce on me. Kind of added to the experience.

Enjoying it so far, the setting is really impressive. Nice to see a Rockstar game without this dense urban landscape. The guns feel like real instruments of death though. Can't wait to shoot dudes with my six-shooter.

Oh wow. Just mucking about in the world I had visited the saloon at night and spent a short while in there before some commotion was going happening and people were running and screaming. I looked outside and there was a guy pinning a woman down by the throat and he started cutting her. I immediately got into fisticuffs with him and even tackled him to the ground where, nothing really happened, I guess he blocked any followup punches I was throwing. But he started running away afterwards and I chased him for a bit hoping to catch up but I realised I couldn't so I shot him in the leg with my six-shooter. Then proceeded to wail on him a bit more just outside of town with my fists and just left him there. When I went back, the woman was dead so I decided to drown my sorrows in the saloon.

A little later I walk walking down the street and this posse on horseback had ran through the town firing their guns in the air and shouting while I man was being dragged along the back of one of the horses. What a game.

I just beat RDR. The ending was definitely something I didn't expect. I won't spoil it for everybody else who is still playing.

Yea, I thought it was a really cool way to continue. Spoilers: Although I'm still not sure the motivations of "Ross" doing "it" made complete sense to me. Then again I haven't done all the stranger missions or read the newspapers besides the last one.

Overall it was a pretty excellent game with some memorable moments. I'll never forget the moment right after crossing to Mexico, riding over a hill, seeing the moon and stars slowly come into view, when all the sudden a song starts playing out of nowhere.

"so far so far awaaaaay" Beautiful. :farofflook:

Then the middle third with the Mexican army/revolution missions almost bored me to death but once I got to the Indian gang/Government stuff it was really really awesome all the way till the end.

My brother got this a little while ago and I started playing, but couldn't really get into the whole game. It was fun to go around and do missions for a bit, but after only a few hours I've pretty much given up on the actual game. I used codes to get the weapons and started firebombing the hell out of Armadillo. Now I'm trying to find fun ways to kill people. I hog tied a guy and put him on the train tracks. Another time I lassoed a runaway prisoner and as I was getting off the horse, a wolf ate him. I wonder if you can put bait on a hog tied person and let the animals have at him.

I've been watching my boyfriend play this, and I finally started my own save last night. I love the music and the atmosphere! The characters are really well created, and John Marston's voice actor is awesome, haha. Still, for some reason, not really feeling it, though. I guess I have to play it more :o though it might be because I generally don't care much for open world games (like GTA, etc). They just tend to bore me, for some reason. :/

Next to nuke boosters on MW2 I've found another category of online game players I despise. That is, everyone playing on a Free Roam session.  :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: No one wants to just chill out, anyone I come across immediately has me or anyone else in their sights. Now I know it creates this dog eat dog world, but it's just so frustrating when you have to meet up with friends, but it's more difficult than it should because you keep getting killed and you have to find your way back to each other again where most likely you'll be set upon again.

Seems like most people on RDR online are just assholes. I've made it a rule not to fire on anyone unless they fire at me first. I have acted like an asshole though. Me and a friend were invited to form a posse by this one other guy and when we all met up we followed his lead, except he would just run for 10 secs, stop for 30 than repeat. Didn't know where he was going. When he started running into a mountain face we both just laughed, shot him together and my mate stole his better horse XD. And I found it greatly satisfying when a person kept chasing after me and killing me but I managed to get him 3 times in a row before I had enough, and as I saw him ride over the hill on his horse in my direction, I took aim with my rifle and shot his horse in the head. He went flying to the ground and I just got on my horse and rode away.  :pimp:

When I was playing free roam on the second or third day the game got release, I was going to stop and help a group out with a gang hideout. Then I changed my mind instead. So when I was turning around to leave one of the people playing decided to follow my ass for ten minutes. By the time I got into town s/he decided to shoot me in the back. Also has anybody been attack my multiple animals at the same time?

So apparently John Hillcoat (director of The Road) has made a 30 minute Red Dead Redemption short film called Red Dead Redemption: The Man From Blackwater. I haven't watched it all, but the first few minutes seemed promising

I wouldn't go near a gang hideout if there are other players there. From experience, if a randomer stumbles into the gang hideout then they also get a share of the XP afterwards, even if they were there for a few seconds. People don't take too kindly to that. But man, 10 mins, that guy was determined! I've met my share of dickheads like that too. It's a great feeling when it stumbles in your favour though. Like I was on a road and got shot at by two dudes riding on a wagon in front of me, so I kept riding til I was behind them, where they obviously had to make more button presses to aim from behind, while I took out the pair of them and stole their wagon :)

The free DLC, 'Outlaws To The End' is out now.

Red Dead Redemption Outlaws to the End Co-Op Mission Pack DLC Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MfH75jcTuhU#ws)

It's awesome taking it on with friends. Get a lot of XP for it too, it really betters the multiplayer aspect of the game. Trying to complete any mission with two players is harder than it sounds!

I still haven't played the new DLC yet. My friends said the mission gradually get harder as you go along. I am still getting attack by random group of animals (damn you boars and bears tag teaming on my ass!)

My highlight of Red Dead Redemption so far? This song:

Red Dead Redemption - Far Away (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iwizeeBTnk8#ws)

If you have not reached Mexico in the single player campaign yet, then I urge you not to listen to this now as hearing it now would only ruin the experience. Written by Jose Gonzalez specifically for the game, it's supposed to signify a time in the game when you're alone in Mexico, desperate, in danger and a long way from home. And he totally nails it. It's haunting and feels timeless. It's a song by a professional artist that I don't normally see or hear of in a video game. I arrived in Mexico at night, with a full moon in the sky and was walking the horse, not galloping, through the desert. Such a simple moment, but brilliantly executed.

Just now I started playing it and now I realize how awesome this game is!
So much stuff to do, so many details in so many things!

I'm loving the soundtrack of the game. The funny thing is I really don't like western themed stuff but this game really is something else!

I finished the game just now. Anyone else would like to talk about the ending ?

small spoilers:
I gotta say I'm kinda sad. After all that hard work he ended up dead. It's not as if I didn't like the ending, it's just that he doesn't get his revenge nor to be with his family that he worked so hard to be with.

Cool. To be honest I think the final third has been kind of dragging on for just a tad, were all those missions for the Yale professor really necessary? Well whatever, it's been an amazing game regardless, so much so that even that criticism can't really take away from the enjoyment I've had from it.

Wow. I honestly didn't expect that to happen. I was devastated. Things were looking up and then he gets murdered like that. He committed crimes yes, but he was looking to atone. And it's just the way he was murdered too, not a single gun shot, but absolutely blasted with bullets leaving him bloody and torn, yet you could see him struggling to remain standing and not be beaten. Just heartbreaking.

Again, totally unsuspecting to me, because usually they'd leave the game world free to explore after the credits roll. But they handled that in a way that makes sense. Though it's not the true ending, not quite. I dunno, did any of you see the secret mission in Blackwater afterwards? That leads to a definite conclusion.

In my top 3 games of the year, that's for sure.

The only disappointment is that the trailer is too short! The environments look gorgeous. Although the promotional picture makes it seem like we'll revisit Dutch's gang which suggests a prequel when I would prefer an all new cast of characters.

Still wondering why they use RDR2 when redemption is the 2nd game of the series
Meanwhile the great debate on the internets is whether it'll ever get a pc version
