Thanks.
I like writing manachuri based on their real life interactions.
Really belated fic for Rena's birthday again this year. >_>
The setting is after Magical Radio.
#33 Happy - W Matsui
---
"Good work everyone. Take a five minute break."
"Jurina, don't forget that you have to meet the director for dinner tomorrow to discuss the new movie."
"I will."
Matsui Jurina grabbed a bottle of tea, sat on the nearby stool and checked her phone, not wanting to waste any second of her precious break.
1 new mail. Matsui Rena.
「Jurina, are you free tomorrow night for dinner?」
She types her reply almost immediately.
「I am」
Exactly 4 minutes and 40 seconds later, she stands up and walks to her manager.
" About the dinner tomorrow... I forgot I had something on."
"Couldn't you postpone it?"
"I can't"
"But this is your big chance."
He gives her a look of exasperation but she returns him with her usual stubborn look.
"I'll have to wait for another then."
Her 5 minutes is up and she walks away just like that and returning back to work.
Just like the professional actress she was supposed to be.
---
Somewhere in certain restaurant, a waiter leads a girl to her reserved seat.
She didn't have to wait long til another girl came and sat on the seat opposite of her.
Before the other girl could greet, she's already shot a question.
"You got heartbroken again didn't you?"
Straightforward. Just as always.
"Is that the first thing you have to say to me when we've not met for so long?"
"Rena-chan don't avoid the question~"
"...I did"
The waiter comes and serves them their meal before Rena had any chance to look at the menu.
It was the restaurant's signature dish. A dish that was spicy and absolutely had no meat.
She takes a bite and her eyes widened a little with joy.
The look of happiness that appears when people eat something they really like.
She had everything prepared.
"You always come crying to me when you get rejected."
Jurina spoke, after a while, when they were at least half done with their meal.
As if she was choosing the right moment to say that.
A bite.
"...I noticed"
"I'm really sorry to impose on you all the time, even though you've not been back at the radio station after all these years."
"It's okay."
She didn't think she could stand it.
Not if going back meant that she had to see Rena go head over heels with someone each time.
Even after she's built up all these acting experiences over the year it was still hard to smile at her and wish her "good luck" everytime when all she wanted to do was to curse at the other party and hope that it didn't turn out well.
A few mouthfuls.
"Even though you're really busy acting in all the films and trying to become an outstanding actress again"
"I'm not that busy."
There was no tell tale signs of a lie.
"So feel free to call on me anytime if you need someone."
"Thank you."
They both stared at the remains of the food on their plates awkwardly. Neither sure how to continue the conversation.
"Shall we have dessert?"
"Yes. Yes. That's a good idea."
She waves her hand and signals to the waiter.
A small strawberry shortcake was placed on the table with a candle on it.
Rena's eyes widens once again that night.
But this time, she wasn't eating anything at the moment.
"You remembered!"
"Yup."
"I've forgotten about it myself."
"Even if Rena-chan forgets, it's okay. I'll be there to remember it for you."
"Jurina is always this direct"
A laugh.
Because she knows that if she's that direct as she claims things wouldn't be like that now.
"Jurina, are you happy?"
She breathes in.
"Yes."
And then she pushes the plate towards her.
"Make a wish."
"I don't need to."
"It's already been fulfilled."
"I'll make a wish then."
"Wishes don't work this way!"
She ignores the other girl and blows her candle out.
"What was Jurina's wish?"
"What was Rena-chan's wish?"
"To have someone who would always remember things for me when I forget~"
"Rena-chan! Tell me!"
"I'll only say it if you say what your wish was"
"But wishes don't come true when you say it!"
"Then I'm not telling."
"Are you happy?"
"Yes."
"It was for you to be happy. What was Rena-chan's wish?"
"For everyone in the radio station to be happy."
While she has indeed grew and matured across the years, there are some parts of the heart that remains small as ever.
She believes in karma and feels that someone like her would never be able to attain the happiness everyone else has.
Her wish was for the person she liked to be happy.
Because I know that I'll never be.
