Still kinda sleepy, so pardon me for not being all hyper about this.  :nervous

Man oh man, talk about discipline. THAT was a grinding, blue-collar game if I ever saw one. No ego,  no hot-dogging,  no trying to be flashy just for the sake of being flashy. Both teams laid it all out on the line, with all players doing all that they could to try and win the game. Canada just happened to get the lucky bounces.

Much thanks for a hell of a game Sweden. It was definitely one that we had to work for. :sweden:

Aaaaaaaaaaaand now back to bed for a couple of hours before the closing ceremonies begin.

the three most important qualities in hockey:

1. Finland winning
2. Sweden losing
3. Great hockey

The final game had 2/3 so it was a great watch  XD

Congrats Canada!

A lot of Canadians are going to be talking about how both our men's and women's hockey teams successfully defended their gold medal wins from 2010. However, when looking back at the medal counts, this year the Dutch (speed skating) team should be the example that people use when they talk about dominance. When you talk about getting 24 medals, all of which basically came from the same discipline, with 4 podium sweeps, and 8 out of 12 possible golds...yeah, that's dominance.

I guess Putin should take solace in the fact that Russia still ended up with the most medals won.  I'm surprised with as many shitty performances the US had, they still had the 2nd most medals.  You almost hear as much (or more) about how the US athletes finished 5th and/or 7th in some of the sports than you do them actually getting in the Top 3.  Still, at the end of the day, the Olympics are more than just speedskating.

Sochi silver medal on eBay? Karlsson not keen on second place
February 25, 2014 8:45 PM | By NESN

Sweden’s Erik Karlsson isn’t leaving the 2014 Winter Olympics empty-handed, but according to him, he might as well be.

The Ottawa Senators defenseman was understandably upset after falling to Canada 3-0 in the gold medal game on Sunday, but his loss might be the Internet’s gain.

Following the game, Karlsson was asked what the silver medal means to him and it turns out he’s not too keen on second place.

“You will see when I put it out on eBay,” the 23-year-old said, according to Olympic News Service, via NBC Sports. Karlsson, who was named the tournament’s best defenseman after notching four goals and four assists, steered the conversation in a more serious direction, adding that one day he’ll be able to look back on the experience and appreciate it.

“It’s obviously something that will be great to look back on and be proud of, but it will take some time before I will be able to reflect on what it means,” Karlsson said.

But in the meantime, it wouldn’t hurt to check eBay, you know, just in case any Olympic medals are floating around out there.

I'm really hoping that he reconsiders doing this. Hopefully he's just currently saying/thinking this out of frustration from outcome of the game. Wouldn't surprise me if he's also betting/expecting to be on team Sweden for the next Olympics in 2018, but it would really suck (IMO) for him if he went through with this and later on ended up regretting it.

Still, at the end of the day, the Olympics are more than just speedskating.
Yep, they're also about many other winter Olympic sports like, for example, cross-country and alpine skiing, both of which ended up being pretty much a bust for almost anyone from a country outside of northern Europe.

Russia awards cars to its Olympic medallists
Updated: February 27, 2014 6:53 AM | The Associated Press

MOSCOW - Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has given a Mercedes-Benz to each Olympic medallist from the host country of the 2014 Sochi Games.

Medvedev reportedly gave away dozens of white Mercedes-Benz cars, decorated with the Russian Olympic team logo. While some of Russia's star athletes, like 15-year-old figure skater Julia Lipnitskaia or 17-year-old teammate Adelina Sotnikova, don't even have their licenses yet, Medvedev found a way around that problem by providing a driver — all services paid.

After an embarrassing sixth-place finish in the medals table at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, Russia finished at the top in Sochi.

Medvedev says that it is important for the government to continue supporting athletes financially.

It's been nearly 2 weeks since the Sochi games concluded, and yet there's still more fun to be had. :)

This one has to be posted at full size. Why?

Because it's Olli. :finland:
