Which unfortunately isn't really a perfect fit as an artist imo. Just imagine a world with "normal" persons as artist. It'd be.. utterly boring. :( The playful craziness is perfect to me.

The alcohol topic from the Tae thread made me wish they'd get the girls drunk and have a TV-show with them. That'd show us their true personalities. :)

But they're a group, she could be normal and still be charming because of it. It's that whole "girl next door" kinda thing. But more like that urban girl next door. Plus she's got amazing dance skeelz, and that's a more important asset than being wacky. They're performers first after all, and personalities second. But she's had her wacky moments, you just don't pay attention.

And since it's the roles thread, I thought I would share what I think their "roles" are without directly comparing them with MM. Of course you might see some similarities, they are after both idol groups.

Taeyeon - the cute lovable leader. She's crazy, but also tries to be a good role model, takes care of the group, keeps them in check, and leads the vocals.

Jessica - She's kinda a contradiction. She tries to be cool and cynical, but can be very warm-hearted and can get really emotional. Some would probably say she's two-faced, but I say she's just human. Sexy with a girlish charm. 2nd vocal lead.

Tiffany - The girl. Is there any other way to describe her? Describe a girl, and you get Tiffany. With the smile that lights up the room. She has untapped talent, and born to entertain. She can be an air-head sometimes, but she seems very honest.

Yuri - The free spirit, not afraid to try things and put herself out there. Very good body and great dancer.

Sunny - The cute, energetic one, always smiling and bouncy >_>. But because she's always like that, her full personality hasn't really shown. Balanced singing and dancing skills.

Hyoyeon - Well balanced with the cool and cute. Not much on the vocals, but amazing dance skills, rarely seen from girls.

Sooyoung - The talker. She can talk about anything and make you want to listen. Very strong, boyish personality with a hidden cute side. Passionate about her singing

Yoona - The face. She's super pretty but with a boyish charm. Average singer, but good dancer, and great actress.

Seohyun - The cute outspoken youngster with lots of potential. The girl is a genius. She's multi-talented and only gets better every day.

So what do you guys think?

Spot on SITS, especially the one about Tiffany. I had no trouble labelling her as the alpha "girl" within the group. Her spontaneous response to people's words is what makes her interesting.

But i thought Seoh Hyeon is the one with the untapped talent. She is still so young and progressing very fast every day. And she can look very different with every single and every cover.

well that's what I was sorta going at with Seohyun, but already used the phrase for Tiffany. Plus she's still young, so she hasn't reached her potential yet, so she's more like a work in development. :P

Tiffany's talent is right under our faces, but she doesn't really get a chance to show it, and they're still letting her sing like Britney Spears, all breathy. I'm hoping that she's had more voice training and looking for a big improvement on the new album.

not that they got fixed roles or anything, but i think it usually turned out like this

vocal/singing: taeyeon, jessica, seohyeon
dance: hyoyeon, yuri, sooyoung
looks, entertaining ability: tiffany, yoona,

i'm finding hard to place sunny, i'm sure she's not just there bcoz of her uncle, but...

This category

aegyo/shortness/pure awesomeness/porny: Sunny 8)2

Actually I would put her in the singing group. She's does the best ballad songs imo. Could go in any category though.

WARNING: TL;DR-ness ahead

Aw man, comparing MM and SNSD is so...strawberries and blueberries.  It's not quite as different as apples and oranges ever since Takahashi-Leader-era MM has been on the up-and-up on the performance level(I could see this MM doing Kara-level choreo), but the whole hierarchy that the MM girls have to go through within MM and H!P is much, much more impacting than SNSD with SMTown because there's no pre-debut trainee dynamics. This is why I think AS's development should prove highly interesting since they've even had a Goto/Nacchi in Uee/Gahee as well as Raina/Jungah. Not to mention the difference in tone between J-Variety and K-Variety also plays a role in how idol personalities develop.

But I do see similarities case-by-case.
Taeyeon <--> Takahashi: Shorty adorkable lead singer baby-faced leaders.    And I do feel like Takahashi's shyness may come from her being 5th gen, having to live up to all of her seniors who had dominating personalities. It's been kind of a mental exercise for me to imagine an MM where they started with the Gorokkies, and wowee do things turn out different. Both Taeyeon and Takahashi share that low-key sarcastic humor, and while Taeyeon's turned out to be a silvertongue every time Takahashi tried out her jokes on H!M nobody got them.(I don't know why either, I've always found them funny.) So Takahashi went introverted and Taeyeon became a solo DJ.

Jessica <--> Miki: She even has her own Romantic Ukare Mode in Naemyung. Where most idols get their fans by inspiring protective feelings, these two get even MORE hardcore fans by having an icy exterior. Yes, they have their dorky sides but their HBIC looks and their tendency to glare even on camera is their main point of appeal instead. And her wota-power shows, as she raked in more moolah in the Chocolate Love dress auction than the bottom four members put together.

I disagree with Sunny<-->Sayu. Yes, both are the aegyo silvertongues of their respective groups, but Sunny is also the Shadow Power in SNSD where Sayu fails at everything not related to kawaii or sarcasm.  XD Sunny is good at everything, and it's been showing in IY as well as on the wrestling floor. She's not the Godfather because she's passive about her power, letting the others boss her around, but if she wanted to she could flip them all over her leg.  I can kind of see this in Rika as she's got to be one of the more able H!P members yet fails for the sake of the lulz, but Sunny doesn't lose on purpose, she just doesn't flaunt her abilities unless she wants to. And she's more subtle than Yaguchi as she's anything but a loudmouth. So basically zoolander is right: Sunny is too awesome to be compared to anyone in H!P.  :pimp:

Pre-Gee Tiffany is utterly Linlin minus the shikshin part. They're always 8D~~~!!!<3<3~~8DD over stuff and being adorable for it. Post-Gee Tiffany is more like Niigaki, being all motherly with the other members, often playing the tsukkomi to their silliness but still willing to fool around with them. Both are always being all "you can't do that we're idols!" She's also like older!Kaori as well for speaking cautiously and being a quieter presence.

Hyo <--> Eric Kamezou.  :P Although, the way she's utterly confident yet bashfully awkward at the same time reminds me of Akimoto Sayaka. Poor girls are also both underdogs in their fandoms for not having your standard idol looks.

Yuri kind of like Yossi. Both had very tomboy personalities and grew into much more feminine images, except Yuri's prankster tomboy side seems to have disappeared completely() and her femininity is super-hawt where Yossi's is much more elegant-woman and Hangry is totally a male.  I also have a lovely piechart on snsd_metacrack proving that Yuri is SNSD's pimp, as she has the most posts in her pairing threads combined on SSF. :pimp: Maneater!Yuri reminds me of sultry!Takahashi though.

Sooyoung is kind of like Oshima Yuko, but even more awesome? Like Sunny, she's mostly too amazing to be compared to anyone in Jpop, but I guess if you put together some of the more badass characters in AKB48 you might get something close? Ooh, there's definitely some Nakazawa Yuko there too though.

Yoona <--> Matsumoto Jun , even though I don't know that much about Arashi. She's the breakout face known for her drama acting as well as one of the youngest members. In terms of personality though I have no clue what Jun is like. Yoona's personality also doesn't jive with your standard Jpop girl idol, as she's a silvertongue, choding tomboy, faux narcissist, and modest face of her group so I'd say maybe Perfume? They're humble about their success, pick up snakes for fun, do super precise dancing, and Nocci has man-tendencies such as praising SNSD's legs  XD so that sounds about right.

Seohyun is Seohyun. She MIGHT have been a Mayu/Angela Aki hybrid for her soul-sucking stare, acting skillz, piano, and privateness, but since I've watched WGM Seohyun has become this epic bag of quirks that even I find weird.  :panic: She has her own plane of existence even in Kpop so how am I supposed to find a Jpop equivalent?  Seo adjusts to us, not us to her.

Amber <--> Miyazawa Sae  :pimp:

Also:
Singing: Taeyeon Jessica Sunny Tiffany Seohyun, and Yuri has the potential but has been too busy to develop it
Dancing: Hyoyeon Yuri Yoona Sooyoung, with Seohyun and Jessica having the ability but not showing it as much
EVERYONE in SNSD has amazing looks and personality.  What I said about Sooyoung holds for everyone: you take those comparisons and then add a heaping bowl of AWESOME.

Sunny imo is a vocal....not exactly powerhouse but she has a vocal talent (like Jessica). She doesn't have a strong voice like Taeng, but she has the range, technique, and passion. In a way she reminds me of Tiffany, except Tiffany doesn't have much control at times. Sunny's pretty entertaining too, just go watch IY or Chunji boras.

Yoona <--> Matsumoto Jun  :lol:

Where did that come from?

Sunny wasn't really considered as a vocal line member before. But now I dare say that she is the most versatile singer in the group. Her only weak point that keeps her from being the top singer is her inconsistency in live singing.

^That post ran away from me.  I only had concrete thoughts on Taeyeon, Jessica, and Yuri, but then Sunny and Tiffany's snuck up on me, and then Hyo<-->Eric came out of NOWHERE  XD and I had to do the rest of the girls. And Yoona was going to be yet ANOTHER "too awesome for Jpop" along with Sunny and Sooyoung before I remembered that her claim to fame was her acting, and who is everybody's darling maknae idol actor? And then I thought that it would be hilarious for a boyband comparison to just randomly appear.
