On the morning of July 3rd, 2009, tenkei (representing jphip.com) and Tris-chan (representing cosplaylab.com) sat down with 5 members (Takahashi Ai, Kusumi Koharu, Mitsui Aika, JunJun and LinLin) of Japanese pop group Morning Musume and unofficially interviewed them. Here is a transcript (as best as we could remember, we didn't write anything down until we left the room lol)

JunJun: (in English) Wow, your shirts are so cute! *in reference to the pink and black JPH!PxMM AX t-shirts Tenkei was wearing*
Tenkei: Really? Thank you! We have some shirts for you, too.
JunJun: (in English) Oh really? For us?
Tenkei:Yeah! We'll give you them tomorrow at the autograph signing
JunJun: OK!

Tenkei and Tris introduce themselves to the girls.

Tris-chan: Do you ever get stage fright before a show?
All: Yes, yes of course!
Junjun: I get scared when they call us for standby
Linlin: Yeah, I always want to go to the bathroom then!
Aika: I don't really get scared before, but sometimes I lose my memory on stage.

Tris-chan: I'm a cosplayer, so I get really scared before I go on stage!
All: Eh, really? Are you cosplaying today?
Tris-chan: No no, tomorrow.
Aika: What are you cosplaying as?
Tris-chan: Pretty cure!
Aika: Ah, ah, I know that! Pretty cure, pretty cure~ (singing theme song)
Tris-chan: Yeah yeah! Hahaha.
Aika: Will you be cosplaying too? *motioning to Tenkei*
Tenkei: Haha no, not me

Tenkei: What does it mean to you to be an idol?
All: Eh..? *various puzzled mumbles*
Linlin: I don't really go on stage thinking I have to be an idol; I'm just myself.
Koharu: Yes, it's the same for me.
Junjun: Me too. I don't think of myself as that. What you see on stage is really just JunJun.
Ai: Eh, what should I sau? For me, being an idol means making the dreams of others come true! Yes.
Koharu: I don't really try to be an idol. I know that when I'm at home I'm switched off, and when I'm on stage I have to be "Kusumi Koharu", you know?
Aika: It's the same for me, I just go out and have fun!

Tris-chan: What kind of songs do you like to sing most? Like ballads, or rock songs, or...?
Aika: I really like american-style songs, like 3, 2, 1, breakin' out!
Junjun: I like songs that are a little bit cool and sexy.
Ai: Rock! *throws up the horns*
Koharu: *throws up the horns too* ROCK?!
Tenkei: *throws up the horns too*
Koharu: *does DAIGO's famous pose* WISH
Tenkei: Oh! WISH! *does the pose too*
All: Eh?! WISH! WISH! *all do the pose*
Tenkei: DAIGO is awesome, very funny and cool.
Ai: You know DAIGO? We worked with him once and he was very funny. Haha.
Koharu: For me, I really like singing ballads, but I also like pop songs and songs that are peaceful.
Linlin: I like R&B!

Tris-chan: Is that the kind of music you listen to at home mostly?
All: Yes

Tenkei: What kind of artists do you listen to? American or japanese.
Aika: Hillary Duff!
Junjun: I really like Beyonce
Ai: Linkin Park!
Koharu: Meryl Streep (editor's note: this is fucking hilarious)
Linlin: Avril Lavigne!
*Someone also mentioned Michael Jackson and their shock at his recent passing*

Tenkei: What about japanese artists?
Aika: *listed about 4 artists neither Tris nor Tenkei had ever heard of and thus it was hard to remember who she said*
Junjun: Namie Amuro!
Ai: Uh...I'm not sure who I listen to a lot...
Linlin: I like Boa! (Said in English to Tenkei while Ai was fumbling for an answer)
Ai: Oh, me too! And Tohoshinki.
Koharu: Hamasaki Ayumi

Tenkei: Are you guys tired at all? I know you had a long flight the other day and went straight to the press junket and I'm sure you've been busy since you landed.
All: Oh no, we're not tired at all!
Koharu: I've been sleeping a lot here and there haha
JunJun: I was a little jetlagged at first, but I'm fine now.
Aika: AIKA OK! *makes the large OK gesture, hands above head in a circle*
All, but Aika: OK! *make gesture too* Haha

Ai: When did you become fans of Morning Musume?
Tris-chan: I've been a fan since around 2001.
Tenkei: I became a fan beacuase a few friends were into Hello!Project and introduced me. I came into Morning Musume around the time Chokkan 2 was released.
Koharu: Oh, Chokkan 2? *does a piece of the Chokkan 2 choreography*
Tenkei: Haha yeah!

About this time the AX staff signaled that our turn with the girls was over.
All: Thank you, bye bye!

Awesome job on the interview, guys! Koharu's Meryl Streep answer still makes me laugh, and Aika's OK! is cute~ I really love that girl <3 I wish I had come up with good questions like that for Reina and the other girls.

Aika was HELLACUTE during the interview. she raised her hand super high and said HAI everytime she had an answer to a question. she was just really energetic and bubbly, such an awesome kid.

koharu was all kind of lulz, even the other girls were laughing at her. at one point i looked at her while someone was answering a question and she was staring off into space with her mouth wide open. and that meryl streep answer is epic.

both junjun and linlin tried to use english multiple times, linlin was very outgoing with it.

the next day at the signing both junjun and aika remembered me. aika said 'oh! you! and smiled' i asked 'oboeteru?' and she replied 'hai hai, oboeteru!' then the handler yelled at me to stop making small talk... i asked koharu as well and she said 'un....obo...eteru...' and i laughed and asked her again, 'honto ni? oboeteru?' and she just nodded slowly 'hai...' lol bitch lied straight to my face! and junjun remembered the shirts so i told her we had put them on the table over in the back, since we werent allowed to give them straight to the girls. she said thanks and smiled.

I haven't had a MM favourite for a while, but I'd have reasons to push Aika for that position now

I liked her in Alo-hello and to hear she's a sweetie all the time to all fans is really heart-warming!

lol i labeled it unofficial so you guys know it wasnt pre-arranged nor did we really get permission. we were really just talking with them but of course since me and tris didnt get our turns in the press junket we went straight into the questions we would've used. by calling it unofficial, hopefully someone from UFA or other official places that see it won't get too upset about it or anything...

I think that may have been the best MoMusu interview I've ever seen -- and certainly one of the most unstaged/unscripted ones.
Every strange, flaky, self-absorbed, baaaad thing that Koharu does just makes me like her more!
