OK, I've had this film for a while, but never pushed myself to watch until last Friday..
And what can I say. It's Bloody brilliant, I can't believe I waited this long.
I just saw the sequel today, and that was alrite, ok, it wasn't, it was rather lame.
But the first movie, boy, if I see a better movie this year I'll kiss ya..
It is total edge of ur seat stuff, and I must say that Kiriyama character got a lot of style man..
overall, the film rocks..
-
Watch Old Boy and tell me which one is better. I prefer Old Boy, that final nut wrenching twist was funny.

que what? :?
How do you get from Battle Royale to Oldboy?
-
Hey! It's a Japanese movie. Let's move this to DOMO. :D
I loved Kou Shibasaki and Chiaki Kuriyama in it!!
But haven't seen the sequel yet...dunno if they needed one. :P
-
the sequel seriously sucked. Saving Private Ryan ripoff LOL
-
I love Battle Royale!! I rarely watch movies more than once, but I've watched BR maybe 5 times. The whole psychological play with 15-year-olds' minds is fascinating. My favourite character is Mitsuko because she's a perfect villain, hot and dangerous yet also has a past that explains her actions and that's why you feel a bit of sympathy for her. (Kou Shibasaki  x10000)
I do realize it's not the best movie ever made, but to me it's a movie I can come back to over and over again. I get a bit bored with the two main characters though, they're such whiny emo bitches.
The sequel was so different from the original BR movie I think it suffered more from the association than benefitted from it o_o For me what sucked the most was that I never even had a chance to connect with the characters. So when they died I never felt sorry for them. The teacher was just ridiculous, too. And I don't like war movies in general. So yeah, all kinds of sucky for me :/
-
read the manga. it has back stories for every students that get killed.
-
I don't read manga, ever :P
But I read the book~
-
BR is prolly one of my favorite movies, and DEFINETLY one of my favorite books. and those who haven't read the book, seriously go pick it up. cus if you like the movie, youlll absofuckenlutely love the book, its like 100000 times better! deals with shogo and kiriyama so much better.
the sequel to BR is meh. it has its moments, but for the most part is pretty not that good lol. having the teams makes the movie move so much faster, you dont get to know any of the chars so you dont even really care when the die. they also tried to do a few things with some of the chars that just didnt work cus they didnt develop it enough. like the guy who's sister is part of Wild7, that wouldve been a really good development, but they didnt do anything with it until the very end. if they had strengthened the character relationships and played up individuals more, it couldve saved the movie from its less than stellar plot.
to recap, BR book> BR > BRII; but check out all three!
-
even though br is so old i still love it and watch it once in a while. but i still remember how it blew me away when i first watched it.
really disappointed with part 2. it was just bad as a movie. didn't deserve to carry the br name. i can still remember the stupid moments.. teacher playing rugby, everyone dropping their guns in the middle of a war to talk to their dying comrades for five minutes everytime someone gets shot.. bahh.. heard the original director died and his son took over the helm. i wonder how the movie would've turned out if he were able to continue to the end..
if you haven't seen it you're not missing anything..
-
Now I remember. Maeda Ai + Maeda Aki are the stars of the Battle Royale movies. No wonder there was this big torrent of their PBs on bunko a while back. Here they are through the years, NS EYES style.

I'm probably one of the few people that hasn't seen this film >.<
It's not for lack of wanting though XD
-
New Line bought the rights for Battle Royale to make an american remake....greeat....a bunch of crappy tween american actors. oh and I love this movie even though noriko was a freaking waste in it.
-
Oh god...
-
YEP its true http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117944872?categoryid=13&cs=1 but maybe if were lucky will see talented teenaged actors like Lindsay Lohan or hilary Duff or some random disney kids.
-
The Manga was written by the Author of the novel so It has street cred! In the foreward or endnotes of the Manga, the author states that after finishing the book, the manga would provide more insight into the characters, which it does. The sequel wasn't that good.
-
american. remake?
OHNO!! OHHNNNOOO!!!
well, it might be cool to see random whack american tweeny-boppers get their heads split open
-
haven't seen the manga, but would love to buy the book. It's at my local Hasting's and it's 25 bucks
-
Are you kidding? The remake would utterly kill the movie. (However, seeing Lohan or Duff get their heads split open isn't a bad idea...)
-
loved the first movie! i've watched it at least 3 times! can't say much about the sequel...at all! haha..i've read a couple of volumes of the manga..very insightful as it has a lot more info than u can't compile in a movie version that's no more than 2 hours. never read the book although i see it at borders book store. hmmm..as for an american remake...i wonder who they'll actually put in it as the stars. i wonder if it'll be good? hmmm..either way battle royale kicks butt and it was an awesome film!
-
I started to watch it for the 4th time yesterday and this really is one of my favorite movies, it's soo good.
I don't want a american remake, but if they are going to make it. They have to make it good
-
I  BATTLE ROYLAE!! I haven't seen the movies but I've read the book (translated into English^^) and it was the most deliciously sick, twisted thing I have ever read! I absolutely LOVED it! LOL My favourite character is Kazuo, without a doubt... I was really hoping he'd make it to the end!
Anyway, I heard about the possible American remake, too, and I don't think they should do it, just because it won't come across the same way XD I would love to see the original Japanese movies, though... Anyone know where I can get a copy?
Also, I know Kou Shibasaki is in it... I  her, too!!
-
^ I got mine from SoulSeek. You could probably look it up on there xD
And the people who bought the rights to Battle Royale and are going to remake it, are fans of the series too-- not just some bigwigs who want to capitalize upon the franchise. I remember reading an article somewhere about them not wanting to mess it up, being fans themselves. So I have faith.
When they start auditioning for kids though, I'll be first in line xD
-
no more remakes please -___-
I see no point in making one...
-
this is a cool movie, what a great concept...:) but i don't know that battle royale has a manga thanks for the info man...
-
Hollywood is at a lack of ideas for new movies, so they're re-making movies like crazy. Lazy asses.... >___>
I neither support nor reject that they'll be re-making Battle Royale, I'd like to see how it turns out first before giving an opinion. I have a small amount of faith, because some of their re-makes (like "The Grudge") turned out surprisingly well for me.
-
^ Yeah, I honestly really liked the American remake of "Ring".
I don't know how they are going to replace Mitsuko, but I'll wait and see what happens.
-
I don't know how they are going to replace Mitsuko, but I'll wait and see what happens.
Honestly? I think they should pick Jessica Alba, because she's apparently bitchy in real life. It's perfect!
-
Yeah, I just thought Shibasaki was the perfect Mitsuko. I can't wait to see how Mitsuko vs. Hirono and the lighthouse scene turn out.
Those scenes were love :D
-
If you like the movie, I think you should then read the book. I think the novel was much better than the move. I did read the book before watching the movie, maybe that's why.
-
I didn't really get the plot when I first watched it, but I kept watching it a bit more and finally figured out they were slaughtering each other to stay alive, like a game =_="
-

I like both, the novel and the movie, to different degrees. The novel because it fills in a lot of 'gray areas', and because of it's detail. However, I also love the movie because first of all, you get visual aid  And it's just great to watch! Trying to imagine all the killings going on in your head can only go so far, haha.

Wow, really???? XD

the Variety article about New Line getting the rights left out a few tidbits of info. yes, New Line is in negotiations to get the remake rights and as far as i know have yet to actually get them signed by Toei. ever since BR hit the screens there have been several parties interested in distribution or remake rights for North America and all fell out of favor because of Toei's very strict guidelines for release or remake. but, after checking all my sources it's still an "in the works" deal so i'm not too concerned right now.
as for the movies themselves, the first BR was amazing. i was fortunate enough to catch in on the big screen in japan and was hooked. i think the thing that really hit me most was that no matter how little screen time a student may have had, their death affects you. part of it is the shock of their gory demise but also that they're simply paying the price of the game and in some cases it was terribly depressing.
i was suprised by a couple of things with BR as well that put a smile on my face just out of nostalgia. such as Masamichi Amano composing the music, who I got hooked on when he did the Giant Robo soundtrack. the other was cutey idol Yuko Miyamura as the BR idol! yay!
i could go on a serious rant about BR but i'll save you all the time. i can't say as much for BR2, but i did find it entertaining and the camo pattern was damn cool thanks to BA-TSU. yay!
-
Battle Royale daaaaisuki <3
It's ne of the greatest movies ever~ I can't name any bad sides about it. ^^ My favorite characters are Kawada, Kiriyama and Mitsuko. (Oh I love Kou Shibasaki!) Even though BR is a very violent movie, I'm not bothered. xDD It's still a pleasure to your eyes... (OMG now I sound like a freak) I like it.
-
Yeah, I just thought Shibasaki was the perfect Mitsuko. I can't wait to see how Mitsuko vs. Hirono and the lighthouse scene turn out.

I 100% agree.

anyone remember Hirono Shimizu? (http://img209.imageshack.us/img209/2488/hironoshimizuiz6.jpg)aka Anna Nagata. I think she was in that lighthouse scene. check her out now!

actually, hirono was mitsuko's friend whom she killed to get the gun.
anyway...
hott~
-
Once popularity has faded, bring out to the boobies (or butt)!
-
there re 2nd battle royal release, anyway i don't like this kind of story after watched the 1st one..
-
Hey anyone the movie? do send me a message and i can send it to you^^ its by the same actor in death note^^ isnt he cute? =X:ONshy2: :tfr9a7wg:
-
I once wrote a version of what would happen if MM were in battle royal - but I'm pretty sure that thread was deleted.
Is the second film good? I've only seen the first and I thought it was trez good!
-
is that the girl that plays misaki in kabuto?! i didnt know she was in BR! i miss chiaki...
oh yea...was chaki kuriyama wearing a yellow and black jogging suit in BR just like the one uma thurman wore in kill bill??
-
is that the girl that plays misaki in kabuto?!
Yep !!! Same one... :)

The movie rocked ...i'll see the second part soon ....the manga is also gud
-
Battle Royale must be my all time fav movie! I've watched it soo many times. XD
I don't usually like violent movies that much but in Battle Royale it doesn't bother me
at all since it's somehow different than the others. ^^ Me likes! :D
-
hmm i heard battle royal two isnt that good?:ONdunno:
-

I can imagine how the Hollywood makes BR a typical teen slaughtering movie. Toei (or whoever has the rights) should try to get them filming a remake of BR2, which was kinda crappy.

Any Hollywood remake of BR would end up just being another teen-slasher B-movie like the "I know what you did last summer" series.
-

Oh my god. That's...that's Hirono! Oh my fuck.
I have had a crush on her since I first saw Battle Royale YEARS ago, she was by far my favourite, but I couldn't find anything about her.
Diagong, you're the man! Thank you so much :D
-
my mom said she saw a trailer for the american remake of BR last night on FX at like 230 in the morning. ive been scouring the net looking for it, but nothin came up but old news from like the june. anyone else see it/have any luck?
she said it looked crappy, like a b-movie, but looked to be pretty gruesome and violent
-

perhaps there shouldn't be a remake of BR or BR2 but rather..
..a continuation of the theme of BR but this time the other countries are also imposing BR Act "to manage uncooperative" students.
-> say, north america in response to the events in BR2 decides to implement it also in their own country after bombing the rebels in BR2?
-> or maybe, just maybe, BR Act being implemented on a worldwide scale with the United States as the main country in focus?
this would i think be a more successful movie if their plotline revolved around this storyline..you get to tie up with the old movie and promote the new one without the original creators criticizing you that much.
worldwide scale implementation? now THAT would be hell on earth :D
-
My friend introduced me to Battly Royale once. I must say it was one of the greatest movies I have ever watched. The second movie seemed a bit more rushed, but I suppose it was good. Next step, the novel and manga. Where to find it is the only problem.-_-
-
I liked Battle Royale, and BR2 was kinda strange but okay.
I don't know if i should be looking forward to the remake, it's sounds so unnecessary. Battle Royale is good as it is.
-
theres a new movie coming out called "The Condemned" starring former WWE superstar Stone Cold Steve Austin. its a total rip-off of BR. 10 killers on death row are thrown on a secluded island and forced to kill each other until only on is left, and the survivor is given his freedom.
-
 stone cold.
well the concept of people stuck somewhere being forced to kill one another really isn't that original. What made BR special was they had a bunch of kids do it while throwing in social issues into the mix. That movie just looks stupid though. haha
-
maybe hell drop the stunner on someone! that would be exciting, like old times. i can hear JR now:
STONE COLD!! STONE COLD!! STONE COLD!!!!!!
STUNNERRRRRRRRRRR STUNNERRRRRRRRRR!!!!!
>.>
-
^ ROFL! I read about that I was like WTF adult BR.
-
hurm.. BR is of of movie that i think WTheck do japanese make this kind of movie.. so violent yet so good.. do you guy watch suicide club.. another sameone la.. killing like no prob at all.. but this one suicide la.. it so gore and **#%$@*($..
-
anyone who knows where can I download the 2nd disk of BR1????
I realy could love to watch.....T_T
-
you should be able to find the whole movie on just about any torrent search site. I remember dling the director's cut a few years ago. It fit it one cd.
-
Battle Royale I was one of the first japanese movies I watched and boy did it get me good.. The movie was great and although violent, it was nice in a way.. XD Mitsuko roX~! :P Battle Royale II was very bad though.. Was expecting something good after watching the first one.. Well, can't really expect much since I read that the directors were different.. The original BRI director died.. So the son took over..
-
Battle Royal 1 ROCKED!!!, SO HARDCORE
Battle Royal 2....OMG, worst movie EVER!!, hated it so much, it was so bad...I was glad I got to see Noriko again at the end <3 <3, she's cute.
-
yea.. br 2 sucks. nanahara is cuter in the first movie XD
-
^true.. true.. i can't agree more.. noriko? i dunno her real name.. can't someone guide me.. she's a singer right?
-
Battle royale 2 was so corny at some parts, especially with the teacher ._.
-
BR was great, one of my favourite movies in recent years. :)
I just wish they hadn't made the sequel, really disappointing..........:(
-
BR was too bloody for me, I read the preview of their manga, it feels like it's Final Destination but more bloodier xD
-
I love the first one, just the idea alone was insane.
The second one they messed up the story, instead of fighting each other it become a war movie
-
I went to go see Dead Silence at the movies yesterday, and during the previews there was a Battle Royale-esque remake/spinoff.
It was called, "The Condemned" I think. But instead of having teenagers kill teenagers, they made it so that it was 10 convicted criminals/killers sent to an island and they all had to fight to the death.
It was televised for people to watch, and whoever was left standing at the end was the winner and got to be set free. They had the various weapons and the exploding collars, except this time I think it was like belts or something... whatever-- they looked like those house arrest things, just not on your ankle.
Anyway, I was like 'Shit why'd they change it? I'd love to see a welldone remake of the original. One that didn't change so much of the characters around.' Buuuut I'll probably end up seeing it anyway because of Stone Cold Steve Austin.
This also means that now if they do try to make a movie more faithful to the original, that unknowledgable asshats will just be all like 'Wtf ever, The Condemned came out first, this is just another more cruel spin-off & blahblahblahshit.' :(
-
the first one was pretty good, i loved it and then when i saw the second one....well i regretted it. lol but still battle royale must be like one of my favorites ever
-
I remember reading soon after BR2 was released that Kinji Fukusaku only managed to direct one scene before he died and his son Kenta took over, but that Kenta wouldn't say which scene it was.
Does anyone know if the mystery has since been solved?
-
I like BR1 not because it's bloody but the film has HOT japanese girls JK. I haven't seen BR2 and no plan of buying one coz there's lot of negative reviews about it.
-
i have watched br1 and br2.... and i think.. br1 is better than its sequel..... yeahh... maybe it's because the idea for the first is still fresh.
-
Just watched the first movie and you guys were right! Super movie with lots of nice touches and strong cast especially the teacher.
-
^true.. true.. i can't agree more.. noriko? i dunno her real name.. can't someone guide me.. she's a singer right?
Her real name is Aki Maeda. Her sister was the central girl in the second movie, Ai Maeda.
Just watched the first movie and you guys were right! Super movie with lots of nice touches and strong cast especially the teacher.
"Beat Takeshi" really did do a good job as the teacher, didn't he? And then there's Kou Shibasaki and Chiaki Kuriyama. But I think one of the reasons the first one was better was because most characters had some sort of background material which the actors could work with and portray their characters better whereas the second one was just go and kill.
-
Just watched the movie today. BR1 got me hooked so I expected BR2 to be even better but it didn't live up to expectations. It's sad that they screwed the sequel up. :(
-
Wasn't there talk of a Hollywood remake? (NO! NO! GO AWAY HOLLYWOOD!!)
BR still remains one of the coolest movies I've seen. Never watched BR2 and don't intend to. It's the same with The Godfather III.
-
battle royale rocks!! one of the best movies out there
speaking of the hollywood remake..
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0814023/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0814023/)
i hope they don't make it.. it's a classic already
-
speaking of the hollywood remake..
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
Is nothing sacred?
-
When I first watched battle royal, I was thinking it was messed up cause their age in the movie, But I think its a great movie! Im not sure for BR 2 because I watched that with no subs, I didnt understand much :-\
-
Battle Royale is awesome. <3. I got into it a while ago, and I really like the movie. Not quite as much as the book, but it's still very good. I was a little scared at first (especially when that guy's head got tossed through the window) but I can sit through it now without flinching...much, anyway. Except whenever someone got their throat slit. Still can't look at that.
BRII is...okay. It's obviously not as good as the first one, but it's not that terrible. I agree that there should've been more background to the characters. Some of them died before I even figured out who they were. And you had the whole escaping-from-the-base thing where they just ran into the light and got out okay. But I don't hate it that much. I think Shiori was pretty cool.
But, um, did anyone else notice in BRII how the action actually fades out and back in whenever the characters had to say their last words? I'm serious, I was listening to one of the kids' death speeches, and the second he died, the shooting noises started again. I was sitting there like, "Wtf man?!"
-

It was the scene were Ai Maedas Character played the Piano and her father (Beat Takeshi) comes in with a present to her
-
It was the scene were Ai Maedas Character played the Piano and her father (Beat Takeshi) comes in with a present to her
Probably why that was one of the good scenes in BR2. I personally didn't like BR2 and I think it kinda of wreaked the first one. I remember when I saw the first 5 minutes of it at an Australasian convention and I was like OMG I have to see that. It was one of the things that got me more into Japan and anything Japanese.
As for hollywood it would end up like Lost or something. Maybe they could remake the second one... maybe. I just wonder what BR2 would be like if i was directed by Kinji Fukusaku. Just thinking about it now, if he was to not remake it but just more like make it as if it was another group of students. So just using the concept rather then remaking it.
I have fears about that as well.
-
I think it would be better if Hollywood just made a movie about "Lord of the Flies".
-
I think it would be better if Hollywood just made a movie about "Lord of the Flies".
They have...twice.
http://www.imdb.com/find?s=all&q=lord+of+the+flies
-
I know. but i didn't like the 1963 version because it wasn't a straight adaption of the book and i personally think the 1990 version sucked!
Never mind i just don't like the idea of remaking a movie just because someone doesn't like to read subtitles!
-
Sorry if i maybe sound a little bit rude but i just couldn't find any smiley's to post.
-
Don't sweat it, it's all good. I actually agree with you on this part of it:
i just don't like the idea of remaking a movie just because someone doesn't like to read subtitles!
:thumbsup
-
thanks for the friendly response :)
-
I like this movie though it's really overrated. The girls though are HOT in this movie.
-
The girls are ok in it I guess, I really like the whole concept tho. Oh and the violence lol
-
The battle royale movie wasn't that good. I missed the backgrounds of the characters.
But the story is quite good. I really enjoyed the book.
The book was more detailed about almost everything. And the most dangerous but beautiful girls could be H!P girls in your imagination
btw, I read the book before i saw the movie. Because of that you can understand some scenes in the movie better. For example the perfect couple committing suicide
-
I like this movie though it's really overrated. The girls though are HOT in this movie.
Isn't that what most of us want, to look at HOT girls :ding:
-
I'm so upset because i lost my battle royale dvd during my move so sad.
-
One of my New Year's resolutions was to watch Battle Royale and I did.It was a awesome movie.
-
it so bloody ~~>:bleed eyes:
-
so many character has been killed in here, and i loveit
is there any movie like this??
-
I've heard so much about Battle Royale but I've never seen it. :O Is there a sequel to that too?
-
I've heard so much about Battle Royale but I've never seen it. :O Is there a sequel to that too?
Yep, there was a Battle Royale II. You're not missing much if you don't see it. The first one was definitely much better.
-
Yep, the first Battle Royale is a definite must-see.
The second one wasn't all that much... I found it to be meh, but then sequels tend to be like that.
-
^yeah
and the second one is too crappy ....... I was like "wtf ?" lol
-
Still haven't seen it.. :sweatdrop: I might check out if they have it on dvd in the shops.. or i might have to dL .. Heard Light from Death Note is in it.
-
^correction a very YOUNG Light from Death Note. XDD
But yes the movie is just... EPIC! Kitano Takeshi was amusing!! In a very twisted kinda way...
-
The second film is not as good as the first. I'm surprised, I thought Battle Royale was somewhat well known outside of Japan. Netflix doesn't even have it.
-
haha yup the 1st is still the best, and i believe its quite well known outside of jap
-
According to Quentin Tarantino, the movie made it to his Top 20 list of favorite movies that he'd watch since becoming a director. In fact, it's his #1 favorite movie on the list.
-
^and then he got Chiaki to play Gogo in Kill Bill vol 1.
-
Battle Royale is amazing!! I remember I didn't know it before see it on a videoclub back on 2003/2004 under the name "Juego Sangriento" (Bloody Game) and I readed the synopsis behind the box and it seemed promising.
As the moment it started I didn't interrupted it! I love violent movies talking about dystopia.
Months later a friend bought me the novel and it's one of my favorite books! I found really nice some extra details about the rest of the characters; but if I have to choose, my favorite is the manga! it's crude as the novel is but with more background updates. (Damn, Mitsuko doing a reference of Natural Born Killers just made me happy while reading it).
I'm not so against a remake, because you can always choose the version you like the best. So be scandalized about it it's pointless 0:
Battle Royale Remake Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MLpDITUUG3c#ws)
I readed that someone mentioned a remake trailer but I didn't find it (the post is from 2007 and this video is recent). I just found this fan-made video and actually it doesn't look so bad...it kinda looks like one of those movies you watch during weekends on tv.

Battle Royale 3D announced :banghead:
Japanese studio Toei is preparing a 3D version of Kinji Fukasaku’s cult action thriller Battle Royale, which is one of the widest selling movies ever from Japan.

Fukasaku’s son, Kenta Fukasaku, is supervising the 2D to 3D conversion in Tokyo through this production company Fukasaku-Gumi. Kinji Fukasaku passed away in 2003, so Kenta took over directing duties on a sequel, Battle Royale 2: Requiem, which was released later the same year.
The 3D version of the original will be ready for market screenings in October and released in Japan on November 20. Like the original, the 3D version will have an R-15 rating in Japan.

Battle Royale goes Blu
Arrow Video get excited about all their titles as you can see but they're literally frothing at the mouth with excitement about Kinji Fukasaku's incredible Battle Royale and their plans to bring it to special edition DVD and... Blu-ray. Current release date is looking like 4th October.

BR goes 3D

The Original Battle Royale was highly recommended to me by a friend, and once I saw it............I see why he liked it. It was great, and if I can find a translated version of the book, I would like to read it.
BR was released in December 2000, so the 10 year anniversary is coming soon.
I saw a Japanese Television Drama that came out three years before BR (October 2007), called "Bokuro no Yuuki - Miman Toshi" which starred Koichi Domoto and Tsuyoshi Domoto (collectively known as the KinKi Kids), also starring a very good actress named Mai Hosho. Haven't seen much of her lately, but she is all that and a bag of chips.
Also in support was a very young Jun Matsumoto (he of Arashi if you are not an Earthling) who was great in his role. "Bokura No Yuuki Miman Toshi" was a science fiction, but it tapped into the same fear that BR tapped into- the youth cannot be trusted (and of course for kids it was the sure knowledge that you cannot trust the establishment) Great theme song, of course- "Ai Sareru Yori Ai Shitai" sung by the KinKi Kids.

The 3D trailer sucks

Battle Royal it's a very good movie
-
I really liked #1 - especially I thought the tag line was effective:
"could you kill your best friend?"
-
Kind of amazed that a sequel even happened, yet feel like I shouldn't be.

Break out the credit cards, folks. It's time for a Blu-Ray version!
BATTLE ROYALE Finally Receives American Release
Available for the First Time in North America on Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Download

Special Thanks to Ed Peters and Eric Becker
ONE OF THE MOST CONTROVERSIAL FILMS IN HISTORY FINALLY ARRIVES!
BATTLE ROYALE. A title that has shocked, thrilled and unnerved audiences. A film whose fiendishly simple premise has inspired many imitations, including the upcoming THE HUNGER GAMES motion picture. Based on the 1999 global best-seller by Koushun Takami, the futuristic tale first came to the screen in 2000, directed by the legendary Kinju Fukasaku. The violently poetic epic about an innocent group of Junior High students forced by the government to hunt and kill their classmates for sport was nominated for 10 Japanese Academy Awards, launched a global phenomenon, and banned from screens by frightened civic groups and distributors across America. Authors, filmmakers and film fans the world over consider the film and its 2003 sequel sacred cinematic classics. And now, fans can own them on high-definition Blu-ray and DVD!

*NB - I had to host the pics on ImageShack, as the Picroda is being blocked by the school division's web filters ("Adult Materials" was the reason that popped up on my screen when I tried to go to it). I'll re-host the pics after I get home later tonight (or if a CrackStaff member could do it sooner, that'd be awesome).
-
ahhhh i'm so excited! it has been so long since i've seen this movie cuz someone stole it from my library! now i have something to look forward to again....
-
One of the best movie,I've ever watch!!
-
I hope this get's a remake... like what's happening to classic american horror films...
-
i got both of the films ages ago (im in the uk) i happened to see the 2nd film first and then the first film, i have to be honest and say that the first film kicks the crap out of the 2nd, i do know that the director of the first film died just as he started working on the 2nd so his son directed it insted.
im also sure what a company in the USA did i kind of remake but im not sure, it had that stone cold wrestler guy in it, i heard it was shit. i dont think it would be remade in the US coz its about students killing each other which might be a bit risky for a company to do over there
-
^lol that American movie is called The Condemned. It wasn't really a remake, but did have a lot of BR elements in it. And yes it was shit lol.
So has anyone gotten any of these new fancy repacks? I want to know how the special features and quality and shit is. I have an old HK copy I bought YEARS ago and wouldn't having a legit copy that looks all pretty and such :3
-
nice movie for this
-
An american remake only proves the japanese version's superiority... A japanese remake would be much, much better!
-
Just watched it again, i almost forgot how good it was. Almost.
-
I've now watched the film and read the manga. BR was my first manga and I really liked it, it was able to show off more themes than the movie and the art allowed some expressions that would be too hard to capture on film/write in words.
Gonna move on to the English translation of the book soon, I hope it really hammers in on the relationship between youth and adults. BR is just a great series of work.
-
Oh goodness. This film. I love it. Especially Mitsuko's character, she was insane and manipulative and you could tell she really wanted to win. I also watched the sequel, but it really wasn't worth the watch imo. It didn't seem that good to me. I've yet to read the manga and the book though, so I think I'll get onto that because I heard they're amazing.
-
watched this the other day - i've seen it before, it was the first time seeing it for my friend. he liked it
