Chapter 30 (Final chapter)10 years has passed since then. Today is Minami's death anniversary and everyone gathered as promised every year to pay
respect to her. They brought their food and would be having a mini picnic near the open area.
"Faster! Faster!" Nami said.
"Nami! Wait for me! Don't leave me behind!" Mina said.
"You are too slow! Come!" Nami said and quickly hold Mina's hand.
"Mina! Nami! Don't run!" Sae said as he tried to catch the running twins.
Sae and Yuki got married right after graduating from their college. Sae currently is a basketball coach at Akiba Academy after Akimoto retired
and he continues to lead Akiba to victory after taking over Akimoto. Yuki currently is helping Kai and Tomonobu in the theater business.
But most of the time, she takes care of her twin daughters.
"Gotcha..." Yuki said when the 2 kids bumped into her.
"Phew...Arigato..." Sae said and kissed Yuki cheek. He then as carries 1 of his daughter up.
"Not fair! Otou san! Carry me! Carry me!" Nami said.
"Looks like I have no choice but to...Yosha!" Sae said and carried the twins and walked on.
"Mohh...Sae be careful...Let me hold one of them for you..." Yuki said.
"Its ok Yuki...I can handle it...Go help Otou san..." Sae said with a smile and continued to walk on.
"Yay! Otou san! Walk faster! Walk faster!" The kids demanded.
"Ok! Here we go...." Sae said and walked faster.
"Mina! Nami! Don't bully your Otou san!" Yuki said.
"Hahaha...Thats reminds me...You and Kai used to do that to me too...And I even have to carry both of you around the house..."
Tomonobu said with a laugh.
"Moh...Otou san...Why are you bringing this up now..." Yuki said and blushed.
"Hahaha...Ok ok...I shall not say anymore...Let's go..." Tomonobu said and walked with Yuki towards Minami's rest area.
"Yuki!" Yuko called out when she saw her.
"I'm glad we make it on time...I thought we were running late..." Riku said.
"Otou san...Are we there yet?" Haru asked.
"Just a little while more...Gambatte..." Riku said as he holds Haru's tiny hands.
"Hai..." Haru said with a smile.
Riku and Yuko got married right after they graduated from high school as planned by Riku's parents and moved into the Kojima residence.
Riku took over his family business as soon as he graduated from college. Yuko did not go to the college as she is pregnant with Haru as
soon as they got married. She is now a full time housewife, taking care of the household and their children. Currently, they are expecting
their 2nd child.
"Yuko...Be careful...Let me help you..." Yuki said and helped Yuko.
"Arigato..." Yuko said.
"We haven't seen since other for like...2 months? Look how big your tummy is now..." Yuki said as she is amazed by the growth within 2 months.
"This little one is eating very well...Thats why..." Riku said as he pat on Yuko's pregnant belly.
"Sister is SO greedy...She keeps eating! Even my share is gone..." Haru pouted.
"Aww...Haru...Your little sister is growing up well thanks to you..." Yuko said.
"Yuko...Did you snatched away Haru's food?" Yuki asked.
"Hehe...I just took some...I never snatched...I just can't resist it as his potions always looks so delicious..." Yuko said.
"Awww...My Yuko is so cute..." Riku said with a wide smile.
"Somehow I feel...Your characters switched..." Sae said with a laugh.
"Maybe..." Yuko said as she looks at Riku.
"Hey!" Kuu shouted and waved at them.
Seeing that Kuu and Mariko is earlier than him, Tomonobu made a joke out of it.
"They are earlier than us...Minami is going to be mad at me...We better hurry..." Tomonobu said jokingly and picked up his walking speed.
"HAHAHAHA"
Kuu went to study game design after his high school. He is now the creative director of a game designing company and the games
he produced is always very popular. He and Mariko got married 2 months ago. Mariko is currently one of the top models in japan and
has just opened her own modeling company with Kuu's help.
"Uncle...Let me help you..." Mariko said and helped Tomonobu carried his bag full of packed food.
"Arigato...Mariko san..." Tomonobu said and handled some of his bags to Mariko.
"Konnichiwa..." Greetings were heard behind Yuko.
Following behind them is Jun and Rena. Both of them are now doctors. Seeing how passionate Jun is about medical and hoping
to be able to help Jun out, Rena decided to take up medical knowledge too. With Jun's help and Rena's good grades, she is able to
get herself well prepared for the medical entrance exams. They then went to the same medical school and got married during Rena's
final year in medical college. Jun just took over his family's medical business and Rena is currently helping him to manage.
They have a daughter named Jurina.
"Mina! Nami!" Jurina shouted and ran towards the two sisters.
"Be careful! Slow down...Don't hurt yourself..." Jun shouted seriously.
"I will...Don't worry Otou san..." Jurina said and continues to run forward.
"Yuko chan...Look at your tummy..." Rena said.
"Its big right? Compared to 2 months ago..." Yuki said.
"Of course...Little baby is growing up everyday..." Yuko said.
"Have you got a name for this sweetie?" Rena asked.
"Mayumi..." Riku and Yuko said.
"Sounds familiar..." Sae said.
"Isn't that your name previously?" Kuu asked.
"Yes...We talked about it that if we ever have a daughter...We are going to name it as Mayumi...To remember our true love since
we were young..." Yuko said with a bright smile.
"Thats sweet..." Yuki said.
"Who else are we missing?" Jun asked.
"The celebrity couple of course..." Kuu said.
"Are they coming?" Mariko asked.
"Yes...Kai went to pick Acchan up at her workplace...They should be here anytime soon..." Yuki said.
"He said we can start off without them if he can't make it on time..." Sae said.
Kai went to college after his high school while Acchan was talent scouted to become a singer / actress. Kai is preparing to take over
Tomonobu's theater business with Yuki's help in managing it. Acchan is now a top composing singer and also a popular actress, winning
numerous awards in both singing and acting. After 10 years of courtship, Kai and Acchan are finally going to get married next month.
"They are always the last..." Kuu said.
"Kuu...What are you talking about..." Mariko asked.
"Last to date...Last to get married among us and now, last to reach here...Probably...Last to have kids..." Kuu said.
"Thats their style maybe...No point rushing them as long they are comfortable with their pace..." Riku said.
"Kyaa...Riku-nyan is so understanding..." Yuko said.
"Wow...Its been so long since I heard that from Yuko...Certainly brings me back to the good old days..." Riku said.
"You mean now you are having bad days?" Sae teased.
Hearing that, Yuko pouted and stared at Riku. That totally made Riku panick.
"OF COURSE NOW IS WONDERFUL DAYS! MARVELLOUS DAYS!!" Riku exclaimed.
"Silly...Of course I know...I was just teasing you..." Yuko said.
"Anyway...How can you predict that so quickly...We just got married only..." Mariko said.
"Of course I am confident of myself..." Kuu said as he tried to flex his muscles.
"If you are talking about the Kuu 10 years ago...Its more convincing..." Mariko teased.
"Hey! You should be helping your husband out and not step on me instead!" Kuu retorted.
"I think Kuu looks more like the one getting pregnant...Look at that belly..." Riku said and slapped his belly fats.
"Hey! Stop that! That's my pride!" Kuu retorted and tried to cover his belly fats.
"Pride?" Yuki asked.
"Erm...Pride of getting a wonderful wife who takes good care of me and makes me good food..." Kuu said.
"Hahaha...Sounds like excuses to me...You better go shape yourself back...Need me to help train your physical up?" Sae asked.
"No need! I am good as I am used to be...There's no need for any training...I am ready for kids anytime..." Kuu said as he looks at Markio.
"Lose that donut off your body first...And I don't plan to have kids yet..." Mariko teased.
"What! You told me you were ready! You can't back off now! Wait till when we get back...I am so going to pass on this piece of donut to you!"
Kuu said seriously as he squeeze his little tummy.
"HAHAHAHAHA"
"It's always such a joy to see everyone gathered here...Arigato...For always making time for Minami and me..." Tomonobu said and bowed.
"Uncle...We should thank you and Auntie...We have learnt and received so much from the two of you..." Jun said.
"Hai..." Everyone said.
"KAI! COME BACK HERE!" Acchan shouted.
They looked behind them and saw Acchan chasing after Kai.
"Help me!!!!" Kai said and hide behind his friends.
"Whats wrong Acchan?" Yuko asked.
"Ask that baka Kai!" Acchan said angrily.
"Its just a mouth! Why are you so stingy!" Kai retorted.
"What did you do this time?" Sae asked.
"I just ate a mouth of the katsudon Acchan prepared...Thats all..." Kai said.
"Thats all? Are you sure?" Jun asked.
"A mouth? How big is your mouth? You ate away half of the bento I prepared!" Acchan said as she showed them the half eaten bento.
"Kai...You are disgusting..." Kuu said while he moves away from Mariko.
"Why are you so far away Kuu? Don't worry...This time, I agrees with what you said..." Mariko said with a smile.
"You all find it disgusting right? Great! I can have all of it now! But Oka san...Don't worry...I will still share with you..." Kai said
and looked at tombstone.
"Kai..." Tomonobu said softly as he is pleased to see Kai treating Minami so kindly.
They quickly settled down and started to pay their respect to Minami. Each of them carefully placed a white rose.
"Arigato Oba chan...Hope you like these flowers..." Mina said as she carefully place the flower.
"Arigato Oba chan...We will be good girls and take good care of Oka san..." Nami said with a smile.
"Oka san...I hope I fulfilled the promise I made..." Sae said with teary eyes.
"I believe Oka san and I feel the same way...You have done well..." Yuki said as she leans on Sae's shoulder.
"Oka san...Gomen...I am late today...Hope you will forgive me..." Kai said.
"Auntie...Please don't be angry with Kai...He was late because of me..." Acchan said as she locked arms with Kai.
"Don't worry, I believe Minami is more than happy...Knowing that you are finally bringing her a wife and not a girlfriend to see her..."
Tomonobu said.
"Tou san..." Kai and Acchan said.
"Go on and call her too..." Tomonobu said as he was touched hearing Acchan calls him Tou san.
"Oka san...I will be getting married to Kai next month...Arigato...For blessing me such a wonderful son of yours...and us..."
Acchan said and bowed.
"Oka san...Don't worry...I will still take care of Tou san like always and not neglect him...With Atsuko, we will give him double the
care and love...Arigato Oka san...For blessing me with this life that I can continue to see this world..." Kai said sadly.
"Kai..." Tomonobu said.
They all then paid their respect and started to set up their pinic at a shaded rest area not too far from Minami.
"Hows the preparation for the wedding? Need any help?" Jun asked.
"Yes please...This is really very important to me...Can you please check if this baka Kai can grow any taller until the day we get married..."
Acchan said jokingly.
"Well...You should have asked 5 years ago...He might still have the chance to grow another 2 cm then...Now its a little bit too hard and rush...
I might caused Kai to become shorter instead..." Jun said seriously.
"Hey!" Kai retorted.
"Sounds like its beyond hope...Looks like I have to lend him a few pairs of heels...But all of them are my favorite collections..."
Acchan said and signed.
"HAHAHAHA"
"Hey! I don't need that and I don't know how to wear those! Even if you want to regret now! Its too late!" Kai said.
"Are you sure its too late? I still have a month to think it over..." Acchan teased.
"NO! You can only think about me and nothing else!" Kai retorted.
"Moh...Look how cute my little man is..." Acchan said and pinched Kai's cheeks.
"HAHAHAHA"
While everyone is laughing at the silly couple, Riku noticed that Tomonobu is quiet and not eating much.
"Psst..." Riku said and points at Tomonobu.
Getting the hint from Riku, Kai and the others looked at Tomonobu.
"Gomen...Tou san...Is it boring for you?" Kai asked.
"No...Not at all...Seeing you all...Kind of reminds me about me and Minami when we were around your age...It just felt like...
time never passed us at all...." Tomonobu said sadly.
"Tou san...I'm sure Oka san feels the same too...But she would prefer to see you smile..." Yuki said.
"Grandpapa...Please don't be sad..." Mina and Nami said and hugged Tomonobu.
Suddenly, the wind blew a cool breeze at them. Tomonobu looked at the sky and was shocked by what he saw. He saw Minami smiling
from the sky. He could not believe what he saw and rubbed his eyes. Then he looks up again, Minami is no longer there. It is just blue sky
and white fluffy clouds.
"Tou san?"
"Otou san?"
"Uncle? Are you alright?"
"Hmm...What? Did you say something?" Tomonobu asked after hearing them calling out to him.
"Otou san...Are you unwell? Shall we go now?" Sae asked concernedly.
"Is it about the weather? Shall I open up the umbrella?" Kuu asked.
"Uncle...Tell me where you don't feel well...I can help you check right now..." Jun said as he stood up.
"Grandpapa...Are you hungry or thirsty?" The twins asked and offered food and drinks to Tomonobu.
"Wait here...I will drive the car over now...Bring Tou san down later when I call..." Kai said and stood up, preparing to walk towards the car park.
"I will go with you..." Acchan said and followed Kai.
"Wait up! There's no need for that...I am fine...I just thought that...That Minami must be very happy to see all of us here...Minami might have
left but...I feel so blessed to have all of you by my side...Seeing all of you all grown up and setting up your own family...I felt that I have
gained more than losing..." Tomonobu said with a smile.
Hearing that, the couples looked at each other. They are once again reminded, how blessed they are and are really thankful for it.
"Uncle..." Yuko and Riku said. Riku gently touched Yuko's tummy while he hold Haru's hand, giving his thanks in his heart, for being blessed
with a wonderful family.
"I love you..." Kuu said softly to Mariko.
"I know...I love you too..." Mariko said and rested her head on Kuu's shoulder.
"I'm sure Oka san feels the same as you do Tou san...I can feel that she is watching over us even now...She is always with us..." Kai said.
"Me too..." Acchan said and rested her head on Kai's right shoulder.
"Oka san never left us, she is right here in our hearts...Oka san is always with me..." Yuki said as she gently place her hands on her chest.
"Indeed...We are also blessed to have Mina and Nami too..." Sae said and kissed his daughters.
"The research papers that Auntie left behind were really useful...We were blessed to be able to witness all these medical breakthroughs..."
Rena said.
"Indeed... She remained as a doctor till the end...In every aspect..." Jun said and holded Rena's hand.
"I do not know her personally but hearing all the stories about her...I know she is a respectable woman...A wonderful mother..." Mariko said.
"Auntie has this very special presence...She plays one of the key roles in bringing us closer together...With all the things happening
back then..." Kuu said.
"She definitely someone I looked up to after becoming a mother myself..." Yuko said.
"She is like my mother too...In the ways she handles things and words she spoke...She made me realised that my parents are
always doing their best for me...Now I finally understand it after becoming a father myself...All the sacrifices my parents have done
just for me..." Riku said.
"Heard that Minami...Aren't you glad?" Tomonobu said and looked up the sky once again.
They then followed Tomonobu and looked up. Enjoying the cool sunny morning with the people they loves and cares deeply for.
Every year this day, be it rain or shine, they would take time off from their schedule to come together to celebrate their friendship,
family ties and lives they are leading on. It also acts as a day for them to give thanks for the life they are able to lead on. Reminding
them to give their best every day for they know, the people they love, will always be with them and everyday is a gift to be able to be
with their love ones.
