CHAPTER 12 “GIVE THAT BACK!”
“NEVER!”
“DON’T YOU DARE DO THIS TO ME!”
“THIS IS FOR YOUR FUTURE!”
“YOU’VE RUINED COUNTLESS OF MY FUTURE SINCE I WAS A KID!”
“LOOK WHAT YOU’VE BECOME NOW! ALL THANKS TO ME! SO LET ME SEND THIS!”
“NOOOOO! OVER MY DEAD BODY!”
“I love you too much to kill you, buddy.”
“I HATE YOUUUUU!!!”
You might expect them to be running around like little kids trying to snatch the last piece of apple pie. Unfortunately, that’s not the case. Sayanee and Yui is sprawled on the floor on top of each other with empty bottles and pizza box scattered all around them. They’re not drunk, at least not yet. They were just playing around while planning with the master plan when Yui suddenly decided to act all serious and snatched Sayanee’s phone to make the most genius text message of the year to Sayanee’s crush, as claimed. Sayanee should be getting her phone back, but she can’t because Yui is currently flattening the guitar player with her glorious body.
“Hmmm… I think this should do.”
“Yuiiii! Give me back that phone!”
“Wait. I need to add something.”
“What? What are you typing?!”
“Umm… alright. This is good.”
“Come on, Yui! This is not funny anymore!”
Yui let out a sigh, “Fine, fine. Just do me a favor.”
“What?
“Dress nicely for the date tomorrow night.”
“Yeah, sur-... D-DATE? WHAT DATE?”
“Here.” Yui throws the phone on the ground. Sayanee glared at Yui, picking her phone nervously as she read the text.
From: Sayanee
Hey, Milky.
I was thinking, after a lot of thinking for days with this dumb head of mine…
Is the meet up still open?
I hope I still have a chance.Sayanee’s eyes were as big as saucers before she buried her head deep into the pillow and screamed. It lasted for a few seconds before it turned silent.
“A great idea, right?”
“A great idea for my death!” Sayanee gripped Yui’s collar and shoon her a few times out of frustration. “How can you do this to me?!!”
“Relax, dude. I’m gonna be there, okay? You’re not alone in this.”
"Huh? Really?"
"It's a double date, Sayanee... Didn't you read the text?"
"What? No. You didn't write anything about double date."
"Milky did."
Again, Yui shoved the phone on Sayanee's shocked face.
From: Milky
How about a double date?
"This girl is mad at you."
"How did you know that?"
"Ugh, you like this girl but you don't even know her... Tell me, how usually long were the texts she gave you?"
"Uhh... pretty long."
"With emoticons?"
"Yeah..." And that's when Sayanee gets it. "Oh. Oh... okaay."
“Uh huh.” Yui exclaimed, walking to Sayanee’s wardrobe without permission. “Now, what to wear…”
“Wait, wait…! I didn’t agree with the date yet!”
“Dude, she’s pissed! You don’t wanna reject a pissed girl!”
“But, but…” Sayanee sighed, “I don’t know, Yui. I really feel like this is a bad idea.”
“We’ll go to this date first then you’ll tell me if it’s bad or not... which I doubt it will turn bad.”
“What if it’s bad?”
“I’ll willingly go for a date with Paruru.” Yui nonchalantly said but soon made a face as she regrets it. She was about to change it but Sayanee quickly cuts her off.
“Deal!” Sayanee quickly typed on her phone before Yui made another embarrassing text on her behalf. “Oh, another thing.”
Sayanee gave a playful smirk at Yui, showing the confused girl her phone.
From: Sayanee
Cool. My friend had generously offered to pay for our food too.
Just tell me the place tomorrow.
Can’t wait to meet you “Aww that “friend” of yours is so sweet…” Yui said through gritted teeth as I slowly backed away from her.
“I know right? I’m really lucky to have her.”
“If only you’re lucky enough to escape my deadly tickles!”
“BRING IT ON!” Sayanee stuck her tongue out before running away from the mad Yui laughing crazily trying to catch her.
-------------------------
CLING CLING~! “Haai~ Welcome to our caf-... Eh?”
Standing by the door entrance is two people; one clad with a long brown coat with dark shades and a detective hat while the other is in full blue suit with white shirt and blue glittering tie with dark shades and a hat too. Both of them can be misunderstood as girls, if not for the thick moustache and that natural ikemen face respectively.
“Really, Tani… you think this disguise is perfect? Really?!”
“It’s a perfect plan!”
“It’s a perfect plan for an epic fail. Ugh… why do I even listen to you in the first place?”
“Oh, come on! You look cool, anyway. Like that girl in those AKB groups… what was her name? The one with the smooth dance moves.” Tani acted out some weird dance moves but Jurina just gave her a blank stare.
“You look like a creepy, wasted old hobo attempting to dance. And no, I don’t know whoever you’re talking about. Tch… why do I even need to wear a shade? It’s night time! How can I see where I’m going if it's already dark...” Jurina sighed while grumbling loudly, pulling her hat down to cover her eyes as she made her way inside while trying to avoid the stares with oohs and ahhs and the sickening giggles from everyone. They scan the place for a familiar face they’re trying to stalk.
“I think this Airi is a cheap ass. I mean, a date in this place?”
“Rena loves this place because it’s cheap and comfy. I’ll give him a point for that.”
“Aaah… is that so.” Tani smirked, “But Rena-senpai doesn’t like crowded places, no?”
“Yeah, that’s why I think they’re at a secluded table around the corners.”
“Oh, I heard the special meat sandwich is to die for! Lucky for senpai she can eat that.”
“Psh… I’m betting my guitar that Rena only ordered salads.”
“Heeeh…” Tani makes a pose, “You really knows Rena-senpai nee~”
Jurina almost stumbled on a chair when she caught what Tani was making her do. Her face is red like a tomato, not known whether it’s from anger or embarrassment. Perhaps both of them. Jurina pulled Tani’s collar in a threatening way but the latter keeps on smirking with a peace sign.
“I’ll make a great detective, eh?”
“Why you…” Jurina was about to punch Tani’s annoying face when the punk suddenly pulled them to a table hidden behind a decoration tree. She makes a gesture at a secluded corner. That’s when Jurina’s embarrassed face turns into a killer one.
“That guy… I’ll kill him.”
Jurina stood up but Tani quickly pulled her back to her seat. “No! Don’t kill him yet! What if they’re just having some friendly talk?”
“Ehehehehehee…”
Jurina’s head snapped at the source, finding Rena giggling like a love-struck high school girl. “Uh huh. Friendly, my ass!”
“Hey, chill your feisty ass down!”
“What did you just said?!”
Tani sighed while shaking her head. She never thought Jurina could be a handful, not just with her anger management.
“Oh, look! He’s getting up. Now I can kill him silently.”
“What? Nooo! I don’t want to go to jail with you!”
“Then, what? We can’t just let him. He must be planning something behind Rena. Something… evil!”
“Fine! I’ll follow him. Besides, with this moustache I don’t think anyone will find me suspicious.”
“Yeah you’re right cause he is indeed going to the men’s toilet.”
“What?” Tani gulped hard before shaking her head, “NO WAY! NO NO NOO NOT IN THE SLIGHTEST WAY I’M GOING IN THERE!!!”
“You volunteered.” Jurina shrugged with a smirk, “And don’t think I ever forget you stole my ice cream.”
“I didn’t steal it! It was lying in the fridge asking for someone to eat it! I’m just returning the favor!”
Jurina raised her hand and cracked her knuckles with a raised brow.
“W-well… I think I n-need to p-pee. Y-yeah. I t-think I’ll go pee...”
“YOU SHOULD.”
Tani hurriedly make her way to the gent’s toilet while cursing inwardly. It is a taboo for every girl living on earth to step inside a men’s toilet, even to inhale a smell of it. Because, like it or not, they stink as hell! Tani wondered if the properties of men’s urine are made up of different chemicals for it to smell so horrible. Or perhaps, they just don’t flush that often? She shook her head of the thoughts and inhales a deep breath.
“Huup… URK! Oh god! Bad move!” Tani coughed from the smell of the toilet, even if it is still a mile for her to reach the place. Slapping her face a few times (courtesy of her senpai’s habit), Tani walked inside the toilet with an awkward pose of a man. She lowered her hat, at the same time looking out for Airi’s figure inside. She looked around but soon choked when she sees a man standing in front of a urinal with loose pants.
This is not happening this is not happening I’m thinking of flowers, rainbows, unicorns, horns, dic-... EEK!
NOOOO THIS IS NOT HAPPENIIIING!!! “Oi!”
“H-huh?”
“Are you gonna stare at it forever or what? I need to use it, man!”
“Oh! Err… after you.”
Tani quickly headed to the sink to give way to the waiter to do whatever he wanted to do there. She looked at the mirror when suddenly Airi got out of one of the cubicles. She ducked her head low as she pretends to wash her hands. Her eyes followed Airi, the douche walking to the direction of the waiter who had just finished his ‘business’.
“How was it?”
“Eh… Fine I guess. She’s okay.”
Whaaat? He’s saying Rena-senpai is just OKAY? Grrr… He’s definitely not serious with senpai. “That’s unusual of you.”
“Stop that! So… are we still going with the plan?”
Plan? What plan? Wait… they knew each other? “Of course! Don’t tell me I’ve been cleaning the place for nothing.”
“Nah… just want to confirm it. You know, perhaps you want to back out or something.”
“And missed the opportunity to meet her? Yeah, right! I’ve been waiting for tonight.”
The waiter smirked with wiggling eyes while Airi giggled. “Be patient. Tonight, we can have all the fun we’ve been planning for!”
Don’t tell me… Are they talking about… NO WAY! I gotta tell Jurina-san! “I better go. Don’t want to let our lady waiting.” They again shared a smirk but before Airi step out, the waiter called him.
“Wait! Here…” He took out a small plastic filled with powder substances. “The thing you asked earlier, whatever its name is. Seriously, how can you forget to buy it? I don’t want to see you struggling tonight. Or else she might … you know.. ” He shrugged, the plastic changing hands.
“Dude, you’re a life saver! Thanks!”
Tani waited for Airi to go out of the door before she followed suit. She rushed to the table breathlessly like she just ran a marathon. Jurina was eyeing Rena with sharp eyes, scrutinizing each and every of Rena’s movement. She was so engrossed with Rena, she jumped when Tani slumped in front of her. Jurina looked at her weirdly.
“Wow… You would really make a great disguise as a yurei right now. You managed to make me scared... But just a bit.”
“We got a bigger problem than you getting scared.” Tani ignored Jurina’s comment as her eyes glanced towards Airi. “I think Rena’s in danger.”
Meanwhile… “Thank god they choose this place, not some fancy restaurants. I’ll waste a year of my allowance if they did… I mean, not to sound ungrateful. But Takamina should be called Taka-scrooge. I’ve been working with her 24/7 and all, I should already buy a car but she just had to rent me her small cheap one that…”
Yui keep on blabbering as she got out of the car, already locking it when she noticed her friend was nowhere beside her. She searched left and right, only to find a pale statue-like Sayanee still on the passenger seat. She lets out an exasperated sigh.
“Stop acting like a kid, Sayanee.” Yui commented while unlocking the car, but Sayanee quickly locked it back from the inside. Yui crossed her arms beside the car, waiting for the stubborn Sayanee to open the door.
“Oh, you wanna play a game now huh?”
Yui press the unlock button, Sayanee locked it.
Unlock. Lock. Unlock. Lock. Unlock. Lock.
They keep on with it for a few minutes, catching stares from passersby when Yui finally had enough. She purposely pressed the alarm button, blaring the car with the loud annoying honk sound. That surely made Sayanee panicked as all eyes turn to their direction.
“Game over.” Yui showed a thumb down.
With a dejected face, Sayanee raised her hands and surrendered. Like a criminal caught red-handed, she slowly stepped out of the car with a glare at the grinning Yui.
“Took you long enough. Now, let’s go!” Yui linked their arms together, “And don’t ever think of running away, brother.”
“I’m a girl, damn it.”
Sayanee countered but Yui ignored it. She knows her bestfriend is probably about to wet her pants with the date, but there’s no way she’s gonna let Sayanee run away from her problems. Not when it’s involving her fragile heart.
“Don’t worry, pal. We’ll get through this.”
It was just a sentence, but it was enough to make Sayanee calm for a bit. Yui always knows what to say at crucial times such as this one. Despite her aloof and insensible attitude, Yui is actually a very caring person when it comes to the ones she loved and cherished.
“You ready, buddy?” They stopped at the café’s door.
The good looking Sayanee took a deep breath as she roughly yanks her black leather jacket down, a habit she always does when she’s nervous. Smiling at Yui, she nods her head. The latter gave an encouraging smack on Sayanee’s back. She was about to grab the handle of the wooden door, only to feel a hard slam on her forehead.
BAM! “OWWW! What the heck?!”
“Oh god, Yui? You okay?”
“Ow ow ow I think I’m bleeding oh no my sight is blurry help-“
“Huh? Sayanee? What are you guys doing here?” A person in well looking blue suit appeared from behind the innocent door that had just slammed Yui right on her face.
“Eh? Who the… Hold on. Jurina is that you?” Sayanee looked pretty amused as she recognized the face, only to gasp with the outfit.
“Uhhh… nice suit?” Sayanee commented, wondering if tonight is actually Halloween or something.
“Don’t even start with it.” Jurina pinched the bridge of her nose, trying to hide her embarrassed face.
“Hey, hey! I’m hurt here! At least give a damn about m-“
But once again, Yui was ignored as Tani appeared from the door, pushing all of them to a dark spot.
“Hide! Quick!”
“Urgh… can you please be gent- OWW!”
Because of the tight spot, Yui’s face got squished on the wall as all of them tried their best to stay hidden.
“Umm are you guys cosplaying? I didn’t know you’re into this, Jurina.”
“No we’re not! It’s a disguise!”
“Oh, really? What for?”
“Oh, oh they’re coming!” Tani signaled for everyone to keep quiet.
“Can you guys move aw- MMPH!“ Yui struggled but got her mouth clamped shut by Jurina.
They watch silently as Airi and Rena got out of the café and into one of the cars parked outside.
“Oh no… we need to follow them! Come on,Yui! We need a car!”
“Huh? Wait, what? You hit me with the door and squished me to the wall not to mention the silent treatment I got with no sorry from you and now you’re demanding for a ride from me? NO WAY!”
“But we need to save Rena-senpai!” Tani bellowed.
“Why? It’s not like she’s gonna get rape or something by that dude…”
“What if she is?” Jurina yelled.
“Sheesh, keep it down! I know you’re gonna rescue her anyway.”
“But I need all the manpower, which means you guys are coming with me!”
“Oh, now you finally admit I can kick ass?”
Yui made a smug face, trying to say something deeply conceited. But Jurina’s glare and Tani’s worried face made her give up.
“Okay we got some saving to do. Let’s go, Sayanee.”
Without a word, they rushed to Yui’s rented car. It’s inappropriate at the moment, but Sayanee can feel a rush of relief run through her body when they decided to ditch the date. However, her feet suddenly got glued on the ground as they stumbled upon Milky and Paruru.
“Sayanee…?”
The confused eyes of Milky staring back at her had made Sayanee speechless. The guilt came rushing in as she remembered the main reason she was here at the first place.
“What are you doing here?”
The question made her gulped, her throat suddenly felt like she hadn’t drink for days. Sayanee felt like she’s been running for miles; her heart beating abnormally, her palms sweaty and her legs about to fall. She never thought Milky have the power to make her feel this vulnerable.
A hand pulled Sayanee back to reality, “Sorry Milky but the date is off. It’s an emergency.”
Milky looked at Yui in shocked, “Wha… what do you mean?”
Yui was about to answer but Jurina’s shouting cut her.
“Yui, NOW!”
Milky turns to Sayanee for an explanation but the girl could only stare at the ground.
“We have to go.” Yui gave an apologetic smile before running off to her car with Sayanee in hand.
Milky keep her eyes on the retreating car. Somehow, the deafening sound of the tires screeching on the asphalt road failed to make her react. She stood there, her mind still trying to figure out what did Yui meant by that.
“Sorry Milky but the date is off.” “What was that?” She said her thoughts aloud.
“We got stood up from our date, that’s what.” Paruru shrugged, mumbling about not getting her free food.
“Oh.” Was Milky’s response, not knowing what to feel from the sudden surprise of Sayanee and Yui knowing about their date.
So, does that means that Matsui Sayaka is… A pull on her shirt woke Milky from her thoughts. She giggled from Paruru’s pout as the latter made puppy eyes while rubbing her belly.
“Buy me dinner, please?”
---------------------
“EEEEK!!! STOOOOP!!!”
The car screeched to a stop, just barely missing the wall of a parking lot. After countless of shouting, screaming, praying (from Tani mainly) while trying to keep themselves alive from Yui’s insane driving, they finally let out the breath they’ve been keeping for god knows how long.
“We made it.” Yui grinned proudly, earning glares from the others. “Oh, don’t be such a spoilsport. I got us to Airi’s place, didn’t I?”
“Fortunately!” They all shouted.
“I even made an oath to hunt you down in heaven or hell if I ever lost my soul on the road.” Jurina declared, sending shivers down Yui’s spine.
“So, what now?” Sayanee asked while on a lookout for her fellow bandmate. They are currently at an apartment building. From the looks of it, the place is decent enough with a salaryman’s pay.
“Let’s go in. Maybe we can find Airi’s house from someone inside.”
“Uuhh not to be rude, but with you guys wearing like that? I bet they’ll think of us as some circus people. We’ll get kick out by security as soon as we step in the door.” Yui voice out.
“Oh, yeah? Just watch me.”
With confidence, Tani approached the receptionist. “Good day, sir. May I help you with anything?”
“Yeah. Do you have a resident with the name of Furukawa Airi?”
“Um, I’m really sorry but we can’t disclose information of our residents here unless it is stated by the law. It’s our policy.”
The receptionist was about to walk away but Tani quickly stop her. “Hey, miss. Look, I am from THE LAW. Don’t you recognize me?”
The lady stare at the detective-looking Tani, her eyes squinted with doubt before shaking her head. “I’m really sorry, but I need to see your ID first.”
Tani smirked as a bulb light appeared above her head, her hands rummaging her long jacket for her fake wallet.
“See this?” With fast movement, Tani flipped the wallet open, only to close it quickly. The receptionist could barely see the fake badge. Feeling like an idiot, she glared at Tani.
“I’m warning you. I’ll call for security if you try to do that again. Now, please leave.”
Tani clicked her tongue in annoyance as she made her way back to the others.
“That lady is really good.” She said only to gain a snicker from Yui.
“Told ya you looked like a circus people.”
“Shut up! You got anything better?”
“Let me try.” Jurina suggested which made all them gasped from shocked.
“Seriously?” Sayanee asked in disbelief. Cracking her neck, Jurina wears her shades and fix her clothes. She tapped the bell for the receptionist’s attention.
“Excuse me. Sorry for disturbing your work.” The lady turned around, only to feel her heart struck by an arrow as Jurina took off her shades like a superstar. “Is the manager here?”
“Y-yes I am?”
“Oh, are you the manager?”
“Oh no! I m-mean… I’m in charge at t-the moment.”
“Is that so…” Jurina made a worried face as she bit her lower lips. If Jurina had the power to read minds, she’ll probably heard the squeal inside the receptionist’s head.
“Umm pardon me for asking this, but are you an artist?”
“Why? Do I look like one?”
“Y-yeah… like that Beast Wings’ member, Matsui-san. I’m a fan of her!” The lady blushed hardly from Jurina’s smirk.
“I guess you got me. But please keep it a secret.” Jurina winked with a finger on her lips, making the lady squealed loudly.
“Your secret is safe with me.” The lady tried to wink too, which came as a failure since she really can’t wink.
“Say, I need a favour…”
“Oh, oh! You can ask me anything!”
Jurina lets out a chuckle, “Actually, I’m supposed to meet my friend but I can’t remember his apartment’s number. I tried calling him a few times but he didn’t seem-”
“What’s the name?” The lady asked eagerly, already in front of the computer.
“Um… Furukawa Airi?”
“Oh? Well, so many people want to meet him tonight.” She mumbled to herself, before handing out a paper with scribbles on it. “Here.” She smiled.
“Thank you so much! I don’t know how to repay you for this.”
The others watch with their jaw hanging on the ground as Jurina made her way to the elevator. Her friendly smile had turned back into a serious one that is made to kill.
“Woow, Jurina-san… Just. Woooow!!!.”
“Keep it to yourself, Tani. Or I swear you’ll feel my never-ending wrath at home.”
Tani gulped before shutting her mouth. They silently (all of them intimidated by the threat) followed Jurina as they approached a door. Jurina was planning to be ethical about this whole meeting with the long time enemy, perhaps knocking on the door and greeting Airi politely. Well, after what happened with Rena the other day, it’s only right for her to get on Rena’s good side again instead of making things worse between them. However, the shrieking sound from the other side of the door had put away all of Jurina’s “ethical way” to breaking down the door with a kick and barging in the house uninvited.
“Rena!”
They all rushed inside, only to feel their blood boiling. Rena currently had her back on the floor, defenseless against Airi who’s straddling her.
“J-Jurina? Is that you…?”
“What?! What the hell… what are you doing here?!”
“You!” Jurina ran across the room, pulling Airi who’s straddling Rena to his feet. She raised a hand, letting a hard punch went across his cheek.
DUSH!“Ooh… I think she cracked his jaw.” Sayanee made a hurt expression.
"If only she'd crack his balls..." Yui said only to get excited when Jurina did send a high kick in between his crotch.
CRACK!"Atta girl! Now give an uppercut!" Tani hooted like they're in a wrestling match.
“Wait, Jurina! Stop! I can explain…”
KA-POW!“OOFF!”
Jurina did the uppercut, the blow had successfully took Airi's breath away as he laid unconscious.
BAM!"Aaaand touch down!" Tani yelled with a victorious stance.
Still furious, Jurina was about to give him the last punch just for the heck of it, when someone hit her head with a baseball bat, knocking her out for good. Everyone gasped as they turn at another man clad in a waiter attire who had appeared from the nowhere. But they weren’t gasping for his action, it’s what he had said while crouching down next to the passed out Airi.
“AIRI, DARLING! DON’T DIE ON ME, BABY! DON’T LEAVE YOUR CHURI ALONE!”
“HAAAH?!”
