Eligibility

Hm do I remember wrong that they actually said in the beginning that the members might change or something? I think my brain is confusing this with some other group, like Berryz or something. Anyone remember? xD

I do remember hearing Berryz was supposed to have a rotating roster with the other H!P Kids getting shuffled in...
But we all know how that one worked out.

As for S/mileage, I'm really not sure if I've heard anything of the sort.
It's been a while since I've seen the stuff regarding their formation.

But yes, Akari might be good.

Anyway, whoever they pick, she's gotta have good legs.
That's a given, right?

 roger that on the need for excellent legs if anyone wants to join s-mileage....the  girls looked none too pleased about the suprise.....especially yuuka, who looked like she passed a gall stone the size of mari yaguchi :bleed eyes: for most of that clip.....

;   3 ; I really loved S/mileage as a 4 member unit- I remember thinking when they were formed that it was a great combination and had a good balance as all 4 girls got roughly even lines and screentime.

I hope this doesn't mess up the balance of the group too much, though I'm sure we'll start to see the same favouritism and front girls as in Morning Musume.... (Though original 4 will probably be the front girls :lol: )

They are definitely among the most even-lined H!P units in HISTORY, since it always goes Yuuka-Saki-Dawa-Kanon (order changes of course but you get the point; they all have solo lines in every song)

Now I have more reason to be actually worried about this botching things up :(

I wonder what the original 4 are thinking right now. They worked hard to debut, trying to get peoples' smiles on the streets and most likely forged incredible bonds amongst themselves. If it's already hard for us to accept this sudden change, what more for them. (Kanon's must be already scheming about what she can do to her kohai :lol:)

But this is all probably part of a master plan:

1. Hold auditions/applications
2. Choose finalists
3. No one gets accepted
4. Contact top 4 finalist, issue challenge
5. Finalists succeed
6. Finalists debut as a group
7. World domination

Yeah, Tsunku's been trolling everyone for years, especially when it comes to auditions.
The only time I can think of where he didn't pull a fast one on everyone was 1998 with the 2nd gen Morning Musume auditions.

Seriously, check it out:
Original audition - takes 5 finalists and makes them a new group
2nd Generation  - no surprise
3rd Generation  - only picked one (I believe 2 picks were expected.)
4th Generation  - surprise pick, Tsuji
5th Generation  - surprise pick, Konno
6th Generation  - all 3 finalists pass, then add in Fujimoto
7th Generation  - no one picked, then only picked one, no training camp final
8th Generation  - only picked one, then added in two girls from China
9th Generation  - had members learn who was picked at the same time as the fans, then add in Fukumura
10th Generation - told everyone except 9th gen that there were upcoming auditions


I'm beginning to think Gaki was right, saying Tsunku had so much fun with the 9th generation auditions that he wanted to start over again right away.


Also, keep in mind Tsunku was making it look like there was a possibility that he wasn't going to pick all 4 S/mileage members to debut.

Meanwhile Tsunku has updated about being happy with the applicants so far.

^^ I don't think MM can ever be overtaken as the flagship group even simply because of the Japanese culture of respecting senpais; even if none of the original members are left, the name Morning Musume has lived for so long and is known to everyone and automatically demands respect from all newer groups within Hello! Project. Even if another group became more popular (which I don't see happening), I believe MM would still be the headline simply because of respect & tradition...

They'd have to be PRETTY DAMN BIG if people didn't first associate H!P with MM, but with S/mileage!

Also, I wish success for S/mileage, but I think it'd be pretty lame if they only got a massive break out after adding new members, because I think the original 4 are so awesome. Japan already should be loving THEM, goddamnit! lol Then again... I guess that's what happened with Momusu dundun. I have mixed emotions~

EDIT:
I'd love to hear how many people applied for S/mileage, and how many auditioned for Morning Musume 10th gen!!!

^ They're allowed to apply for both, right? I bet some that get through in the S/mileage audition, that didn't stand out in their MM one, will request/beg to be put in Momusu instead! :lol:


I've just thought of something... S/mileage are known for their fun, quirky style- of course they need new gens and graduations! D: It'd be hard to keep up that image when the current girls are in their 20's and possibly tiring of a silly style- don't change their "thing" just make sure young members are cycled in over time and eventually older members leave!
XD Finaly adding new members is making a little bit of sence to me! Still would prefer 4nin for a bit longer! :P;

Tsunku also said that he may add eggs. Nanami! lolz Also, some fans are speculating that Tsunku is trying to bring back a workshop type group, similar to what he had in mind for Berryz Koubou, where the members would be rotated. Tsunku also noted that he may have a system of “sub-members” and he may even add up to 6 members wich was also mention by u guys, to the group. While I’m not sure what he means by sub-members these are his comments from the article. (Translation thanks to TokyoHive)

WHO WATCHED IT!


I slept badly so eh wtf I just got up and tuned in, why try to sleep when you can watch auditions.

There were 2 big group intros, then the girls sang solo and danced in groups of 4, and Eggs were also in these smaller groups :3
But they didn't show all girls singing before the end, me and Slack can remember at least 3 in total we were expecting to see but didn't.

I want to find screencaps now so I can make a list of my favs lol

She's been nothing but impressive since day 1.
Everything I've seen her do, and I mean everything, has been excellent.
Her singing was spot-on as usual and her dancing had her customary KARIN oomph.
Even if she doesn't end up as a new S/mileage member, this girl deserves to debut NOW.

I think she's cute and reminds me a little of a younger Airi, which is odd since they're the same age!
Good singing and dancing and she looks younger than she is.

Despite her age, I think Tsunku will put her through to the next round because she's distinctive and quite charming.
Plus it's been a while since we've gotten any girls from Hokkaido!

Her pitch was good but her tempo and rhythm were way off, maybe because she missed her cue.
Dancing was super-energetic, which I found refreshing but others might think she looked like she was trying too hard.

Another favorite for many people, this girl is also on the older side of the age range.
She's got a smooth voice and sang nicely.
Her dancing was unremarkable, but at least she's cute.
I think she could benefit from a different hairstyle.

Her pitch seems excellent but her singing voice is somewhere around DAWA's in squeakiness. (not that that's a bad thing)
She was the only one who chose one the most difficult songs S/mileage has and nailed it.
Her "Air synchronized swimming" talent was quite amusing too.
This girl has the added advantage of having worked closely with S/mileage as a main character in the Shugo Chara musical.
She seems to be an odds-on favorite for most.

She wore it to the audition, she's wearing it in the blog article, and she's wearing it for that Egao no Shirushi video.

The blog article says she's in charge of vocals for the group because she's a really good singer.
Attention grabber for sure, since she's the center for the second video.

Kind of odd is that the article (posted the day before the 2nd round audition) suggests that she's rather committed to making Deluxe Colors more well-known.
Deluxe Colors seems to be ongoing and that Egao no Shirushi single actually releases later this month.

Now, this made me concerned since one of the general requirements for H!P auditions for the past few years was that you couldn't be signed with another agency already.
However, looking back at the audition homepage, that requirement is notably absent.
I like her chances!



I wouldn't be surprised if 1063 (red girl) has had some training as well, since she did part of a dance routine for the first part of the audition.
She's not exactly Riho-level at age 12, but really who is?


I mentioned this briefly in my comments on 1142 and 857, but their age really concerns me.
While 17 is still in the age range and I'd love to see them both go on, I worry that being older may screw up their chances.
Under that thinking, 1142 may have a better chance since she looks like she's about 14 or 15.

RIGHT!!

I'm rooting for Ota out of non-Eggs. Fujii is also very cute EDIT: She has also improved her singing tremendously from the previous round! Actually both of them did

Tamura... She barely talked during the personality bit. She's cute and talented, but I wish she had shown more enthusiasm there.

Yamaga has very pretty eyes and a lovely voice, but I don't see her in S/mileage. Too mature D:

Dayeon's singing has improved since the Korean audition, I reckon. I remember thinking she was quite hopeless then, but even if she forgot lyrics now she mostly had the melody ok etc. But she's very quiet and doesn't smile much (nerves?)

The rest were ok and Eggs were excellent!


I have to say that English speaking fans make me embarrassed sometimes. You know the staff was reading the stream comments, and the English speaking fans would enter comments there like "she's shit" etc. WTF GUYS. That's the kind of stuff you may say when you talk to your friends, but not in place like that. You know the staff is formed of people who decide whether foreign fans are worth catering for, right? What do you think they'll think of us when you trash an official audition show with cute innocent girls, instead of supporting them and being polite and respectful? I'm disappointed and angry that people have to be so stupid and rude.

Karin was just crazy good that it seemed almost unfair, Tsunku should just let her in MM or S/M already!   :lol:

Akari was great too, and Dayeon was just lovely. Did Dayeon skip the 2nd round or maybe I just missed her?

Out of the rest, I like Fujii and Tamura. Everyone else was pretty good but those two seem to have interesting personalities.

I watched the stream last night and I was really surprised at how good almost all of the girls were. I mean we've seen some of the people Tusnku has had as finalist before but like seriously most of the girls had voices that really would fit S/mileage.

Obviously the high point was Karin. I don't think there's anything that girl can't do. My only thing is I don't know if I want her in S/mileage or Morning Musume more. I mean she's young and cute and fresh so S/mileage would be awesome for her but she could take over Morning Musume in like a day and be running it. They should just let her be in both cause of it's Karin she could do it lol.

I'm excited about this but I'm also kind of surprised at the people who got picked. I am kinda happy Meimi got picked though even if she wasn't a favorite just because I thought she was really cute playing Yaya in the Shugo Chara musical.

Congrats to all the new members! Meimi Tamura seems to be the most naturally "S/mileage-esque", but having other members who offer a contrast in personality is not a bad thing. One thing that bothers me- the four and five member groups are able to spread the love around, with all members getting a fair amount of attention, but even at seven members you see Maasa, Chinami, and Captain struggling to get enough lines and attention in Berryz.

Today was the last episode of S/mileage's Ustream show and they had the new members on.

They started with their thoughts on the recent H!P concerts.

Saki starts off with their insect costumes.
She was an ant, as were Nakky and Yasshii.
Ayaka was a butterfly.
Yuuka was a grasshopper/cricket.
Kanon was a bee/wasp.

They mention an incident where one of Ayaka's butterfly antennae was totally straightened out when they're supposed to be curly.
This resulted in much laughter by other members.

Ayaka's topic was a gift Sayumi gave her during one of the concerts on her birthday-a little pink doggie thing.

Yuuka's topic was the final performance of High-King with Aichan.

Kanon's topic was how Kumai Yurina was super cute.
Yuuka follows up with how she gets embarrassed when Aichan looks at her in the cheering seats on stage.
They have a little argument over the merit of Kumai vs. Takahashi.
Saki says her favorite member is Okai Chisato, but she really wants to be like Tanaka Reina.
Her reason is that when Chisato changed her hairstyle, she went from boyish to cute.

They talk a bit about C-ute's new PV being really cute, some stuff they saw on Youtube, and the differences between the Wow Wow and Yeah Yeah concerts.
Some more about how Kanon really likes Yurina, Yuuka really likes Aichan, this week's Haropuro! TIME, and Kanon does an impression of Tsunku's version of Uchoten LOVE.


Then they finally got to the new members and their thoughts and reactions to how the announcement went.

New members start to appear around 7:00.

"Idol Wota Kanyon" has them come out one at a time and gives each of them a survey:
What is your favorite food?
What's your favorite comedy gag? (then act it out)
What's a recent news story that caught your attention?
What's something you'd like to make your specialty?
What do you think about Fukuda Kanon's Cinderella character?
What's your goal and motivation for the group?

Here's some short summaries of what they said:
(comedy gags omitted because they're all kinda obscure)


Nakanishi Kana (intro: hissing cat imitation)
Food: green bell pepper, Kanon really hates green bell pepper.
News story: S/mileage new members
New specialty: imitations of comedians
Cinderella?: The "Cinderella Revolution" thing she did at the press conference was super-cute
goal: Since she's not really good at singing and dancing yet, she'll try 10x harder through her lessons to make them her specialty.


Kosuga Fuyuka (intro: weak karate punch)
Food: hayashi omu-rice
News story: S/mileage new members entered
New specialty: using an abacus
Cinderella?: Though the Cinderella thing seems like it's getting picked on more and more, Kanon-chan is still cute without it.

Kanon then asks her if she'd like to try the "reborn Cinderella" character. Fuyuka says no thanks.
Yuuka asks her if she'd maybe like to be Snow White. Fuyuka declines that as well.
Viewer question asks the same thing, Fuyuka says she'd not go as far as Kanon does with the "reborn" stuff.

Goal: Even though she's not that great at singing and dancing, she wants to become someone who pops out before your eyes and be thought of as "cute".


Tamura Meimi (intro: elephant imitation)
Food: fried rice - you can stick all sorts of things in it
News story: Nadeshiko Japan's win at the Women's World Cup
New specialty: doing two different things with each of her hands (like drawing two separate shapes at the same time)

Kanon shows off how she can do rapid-fire janken where one hand always wins

Cinderella?: Even though it's cute, since Kanon's reason for saying it is that she felt nostalgic when she first saw Cinderella Castle, she wonders if maybe it's because she was a worker there instead of being Cinderella herself.  Kanyon flatly denies this.
Goal: She wants to make doing well during the tour and becoming a full member her goal.


Katsuta Rina (intro: recently into making funny faces)
Food: Cheeseburger pizza - she really likes cheese (like Yuuka)
News story: Nadeshiko Japan's win at the Women's World Cup
New specialty: playing with kids and eating a lot
Cinderella?: It's amazing how she's had such a unique character. but instead of a princess character, Rinapuu would like to have an "airheaded" character.

Ayaka notes that recently she's actually been more of a "secret gang leader" for S/mileage. They ask her to do an imitation of Winnie the Pooh.

Goal: While her current goal is to become a full member, if she does she'd like to work hard to make S/mileage "Japan's Idols".


Takeuchi Akari (intro: Cheese, the dog from Anpanman)
Food: omu-rice, but she likes her eggs done firm instead of runny or fluffy
News: The new uniform designs for Nadeshiko Japan
New specialty: Long-jumping

Though Akari wrote that she could jump 2m in 6th grade, Kanon doesn't believe her and asks her to demonstrate.
Kanon thinks of it as "Kumai-san's height + 30cm". They disagree on just how far 2m really is.

Cinderella?: It's funny and really fits Kanon well

Kanon then offers Akari the Snow White character, which she really doesn't want.
Since Kanon's nickname for her is Ponyo, she suggests "Ponyo reborn" instead.

Goal: To make more people know about S/mileage


Finally, they wrap up and the staff informs them that this is in fact the last episode.

Yeah, ever since the 2nd round, I'm pretty sure that's been what a lot of people have been thinking about Fuyuka.
In the 3rd round and ever since, I've also been thinking she sometimes resembles DAWA as well.

"The Smileage official site has just announced that Kosuga Fuyuka has been in terrible health and had to be hospitalized. Upon inspection, she was diagnosed with “severe anemia”. She will be unable to engage in any strenuous activity and was advised for the next few months to focus purely on recovery. Due to these circumstances, she will be stopping her activity as a Smileage sub member. After her recovery, she will be placed into Hello Project Eggs to restart her career."

Poor girl, must be so disappointing. But health comes first.

It is a shame that Fuyuka chan, who just got started, has to drop out. But as shirenu san mentions, health first. Hope she comes back to the eggs, but no matter what  she does, Fuyuka is a  smart and pretty girl- best of luck to her.

At least getting into S/mileage proves Tsunku liked her enough to perform in a group, so hopefully in the future she'll be put into a group when she's ready and really pick up where she left off! :twothumbs

Actually, I really am quite sad about this... ;  3 ; she was my favourite out of them so far and now I won't get to see her carry on with S/mileage...
I wish her a speedy recovery!! :P :heart:

that really blows, poor thing after all of that hard work :cry: i'm glad she's atleast going into eggs, since it wont be too much stress on her health and if anything she's already made some bonds with the rest of the members. i hope she gets better

wow severe anemia... at least they noticed what is wrong with her but seriously sucks that she must leave so soon after joining :\
