3,2,1, Breakin' Out! as AX's theme song doesn't bode well for me. The song starts out promising, then the chorus hits, and I feel cheated. It's like they couldn't decide between a cool image and a cutesy one, so they tried do both, and we get this shallow feel-good thing. If I weren't a fan, I might even deem it worse than Disney's stuff. (3 times 3 times 2 is 18, which is R, which stands for RECYCLE, guys!
) If Tsunku was going to try and sway people over to the pop side, then he should have gone all the way and done something compelling for its sweetness like Mikan. Especially in the era where the anime that make it in America have either J-rock or hip hop themes, this needed to either go with the mainstream or sling so far on the side of pop that it makes its way around and becomes cool again, like K-pop has.(Gee...)
Then I saw the dance shot, and....
Where did the good choreographers go? They're dressed in street clothing, and then...simple junk. It screams 'wannabe', the kiss of death for getting respectable fans.
Come on, even songs about cake can have badass dances:
Mini Moni Okashi Tsukette Live2 seconds in with the jump split thing, and I'm hooked. Not to mention the "hoedown kicks" that T&C Bomber taught as a part of their
Lock dance tutorial.
Ugh. I bet this is the same person responsible for the Bye Bye Bye dance tragedy.
