^ What an era of baseball. Him and Frank Thomas my faves.

What a week in the majors, and I missed this story. RIP José Lima. Here he was in my town:

I pimp Joe Sheehan whenever I can.  Here's his tempered look at Jesus Strasburg's debut last night in The District.

Story about the McCourt's hiring of some crackpot in Russia for hundreds of thousands of dollars.  Dodger fan money, mind you.

Sheesh, how did these people become so rich?  And how brilliant is it that people can still be taken advantage of...

Dang, long weekend away from the teevee. Missed most of Interleague play.

BTW now it looks like Emperor Bud is going to table replay for as long as his tar-black heart is pumping whatever substitutes for blood in his veins. The man needs to go.  Soon.

ESPN's 30 for 30: Where are the good baseball documentaries?
« Reply #1486 on: June 25, 2010, 12:45:50 AM »
FINALLY...  someone shares my pain about the "30 For 30" series on ESPN; notices the slight, at least.

Where's the love for BASEBALL?!!  Didn't The Sports Guy (who I blame any time baseball/MLB gets knocked about) remember James Earl Jones's speech in "Field of Dreams?"

Aw, fuck...

Exactly: I'd LOVE to see a piece on the '95 Mariners, one of the great comeback teams of the last 20 years.

But Simmons would rather invest his time in the NBA (#1 love), the NFL (VERY close 2nd), soccer (isn't ESPN going to air EPL games?) and curling (speaks for itself).

Bitch, bitch, bitch...  OK I'll shaddap now.

I love the 30 For 30 series on ESPN, that last one about the Two Escobars was pretty interesting after I thought it was going to be lame because it was about soccer and half in Spanish.

I saw one good ESPN baseball documentary years ago, it was called The Zen of Bobby V. Matter of facyt I'm still looking for a copy thats not on XBOX 360.
Don't expect me to reply to any post. I tend to not care.

Edwin Jackson: no-hitter in the Trop: eight walks, 149 pitches thrown.  They should give him not one but two weeks off.

Yanks playing the Dodgers in Chavez Ravine right now.  Vin Scully doing the call for Prime Ticket.  What a pleasure it is to experience this.

Posada RBI single to right, plating A-Rod.  Tie game, 1-1.

I think finally we're going to see how and why Chase Utley has been the REAL MVP of the Phillies all these years.  Five to six weeks kaput?!!  Two games-plus behind the Braves?!!

And it's a long shot but what IF the Mets somehow are able to deal for Cliff Lee.  Great time to be a baseball blogger covering the NL East.

Utley!
« Reply #1493 on: July 02, 2010, 12:04:08 AM »
The general wisdom (as manifested in NL MVP voting) has placed Rollins and Howard higher on the Philly pecking order than Utley.  Heck, didn't Brad Lidge place higher in the MVP voting in 2008?

(goes to Google...)

YES!  In 2008, Lidge got two (!) FIRST-place votes and 104 points.  Utley, providing league-leading offensive at a key defensive position, pointed only 30.

Philly is in deep doo-doo.  Can they trade for the ghost of Jeff Kent or Joe Morgan?

Selig "comfortable" with no further expansion of instant replay.
« Reply #1494 on: July 07, 2010, 08:31:38 AM »
I'll just come out and say it: "Bud" Selig is a bad, BAD man.  I'd laugh when Charley Finley called Bowie Kuhn "The Village Idiot."  Meanwhile Kuhn is enshrined in Cooperstown, Marvin Miller is given the shaft and "Bud" collects $18 million-plus to make the tough calls like this.

Fuck you, "Bud" Selig.

^ lol and I bet he tapped dat after the game

No doubt Selig. let them fight for home field advantage for the World Series!

Dope to see Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed relief pitcher Hong-Chih Kuo get a nod on the All-Star roster.  Go Asians!

And though I never been to a Yankees game, I'm sure this voice is familiar to many:

RIP Bob Sheppard

George Steinbrenner: 1930-2010
« Reply #1499 on: July 13, 2010, 06:25:44 PM »
King George Steinbrenner is dead.  I don't even need to link to anything...

Famous and influential, a domineering force.  Also a very mixed legacy (TWO separate bans from MLB) so be leery of New Yorkers/Yankee fans you meet today who claim "Mister Steinbrenner" merits enshrinement in Cooperstown.
