KLaw on the Hall
« Reply #1600 on: December 23, 2010, 11:43:11 PM »
Great line from Keith Law's chat on ESPN.com today:

Anyone else think this apparent surge in support for Jack Morris is a bunch of dinosaur voters angry that Felix Hernandez and Zack Greinke won Cy Young Awards with historically low win totals? "They say pitcher wins don't count? I'll show them!" I imagine the majority of Morris voters write his name in ALL CAPS. In crayon.

The ever-shrinking HOF

The more I read stuff about crap like this, the more I am convinced that the BBWAA, in general,  is not worthy of the honor of selecting MLB's greatest honor for its players.

The new Red Scare in MLB
« Reply #1602 on: December 30, 2010, 05:31:59 PM »
Baseball HOF voting (the BBWAA Hall, anyway) ends this week.  And now we've gone from "Morris over Blyleven" to "Stop Bagwell The 'Roider!"

Really: Jeff Bagwell.  It's scary, really.  And my man Craig Calcaterra nails it: it's McCarthyism.  A chickenshit movement that is intellectually dishonest and morally bankrupt.

Worst of all, I get the impression that this will make casual fans of baseball love the game LESS, not more.  These BBWAA morons think they're doing something righteous and CORRECT.  They're doing neither.  They're waiting to vote in Batman and Superman in their fantasy world.

. . .  but there is good in this world.  Keep Hope Alive!

Joe Posnanski, for one.  Follow MLB online?  Yep, you've heard of him.  He's been posting thousands of words on the HOF subject all week.  His series of articles culminates in his ballot of eight (yep, he's a voting Member).

He speaks for the rest of us.  For myself.  Joe P. is ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS.  And makes me happy that his talents and brain power are being used in the service of making at least one reader smarter about BASEBALL.

^^ Alomar will be wearing a Blue Jays cap on the plaque.  Be proud of your 1992-93 World Series champs!

Rafael Soriano signed by the damn Yanks for...  $35 million/3 years?

Sounds way over the top.  Someone said it's only a good deal IF it moves Joba back to the rotation.  Haaaaar!

^^ For that kind of money, doesn't make too much sense, NY papers said Cashman had to do something drastic to shore up the staff but he'll only be a setup man, just resigned Rivera for 2 more years.

Ken Rosenthal just reported: Wells and ca$h to Angels for Napoli and Juan Rivera.  Amazing!

What this probably means is that one of their hotshot AAA outfielders (Desmond Jennings?) will not be starting the season in St. Pete.  On the other hand, they got MANNY for "only" $2 million and change.  That's a GREAT deal: he can still hit.

Gonna be an entertaining season in the AL East, for sure.  Also can you imagine how BAD Tampa's outfield defense is going to be?!!

Utterly brutal feature by Yahoo's Jeff Passan about Voros McCracken and the fame/fortune that appears to have eluded him.

I first read about McCracken and DIPS in "The Neyer/James Guide to Pitchers." When Bill James brought something to your attention, you paid attention.  That was years ago and yeah, I would have known if this Voros dude was still around writing for SOMEBODY (did he not even have friggin' Twitter?).

Peeps in my Twitter feed are already beginning to chime in about the just-released nominations for the Academy Awards, an "honor" that lost relevancy for me years ago.  If only this worked for the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum...

If you are like me and consume baseball on the same level as oxygen and water then you'll certainly have gotten wind of the news: Rob Neyer is leaving ESPN-dot com.

Posted my thoughts here, instead of working.

And the day after...  Rob Neyer is up and running at SB Nation, a site I have NEVER been to.

Until now.
