Title: A Game of Thrones
Post by: Flyp on October 28, 2010, 07:22:44 PM
Winter is coming...

Game Of Thrones Official "Raven" Tease (HBO) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAZzCFPcLoo&hd=1#ws)

From George R. R. Martin's epic A Song of Ice and Fire book series comes a new HBO series called "A Game of Thrones."

This is not your parents' fantasy series.  With a smaller focus on magic and other-worldliness and a stronger focus on political machinations and secret plots, it's been described as "The Sopranos in Middle-Earth."  Filled with sex, war, violence, incest, backstabbing, and unexpected twists and turns, the books are more like historical fiction than what you expect from something labelled as "fantasy."  Martin breathes fresh new life in a series that was growing stale with predictability.  If you think you know what's going to happen, you're wrong.  If you think you know who's good and who's bad, you're wrong.

When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die.

GoT is set in Westeros, a world not terribly unlike medieval Europe, except for the fact that summers can last years, and winters can last decades.  At the start of the series, it has been summer for many years.... but Winter Is Coming.  To the north is a 100 foot tall wall made of ice, guarded by a small band of outlaws and exiles called The Night's Watch, protecting the south from bands of wildlings in the forests... and something else, something more wicked, that has gone unseen so long its been all but forgotten.   To the south is the Seven Kingdoms, ruled by King Robert Baratheon, who won the crown in a war against the crazed King Aerys Targaryen.  The Targaryens ruled the lands for many years, commanding the powers of now-extinct dragons.  Across the sea to the east, however, the last of the Targaryens are plotting their return to the Seven Kingdoms to take back the Iron Throne...  This may sound like your standard fantasy fair, but this is just the setup. This IS epic fantasy we're talking about.  I can't really go into the story without going into major spoilers, so you'll have to trust me when I say its filled with twists and turns, intrigue and manipulation.

Now, about the series!

A Game of Thrones is currently under production with a tentative Spring 2011 air date.  The first season will be ten episodes long and cover the entire first book of the series.  George R. R. Martin will be working closely with the production and is even writing an episode of the series.  Filming is taking place primarily in Northern Ireland, with additional shooting in Malta.

The Cast:

This series has a HUGE cast of characters (about 80 or so for just the first season, not including extras) so I won't list them all here, but some of the notable names are:

(http://imgur.com/BF0wp.jpg)   Sean Bean (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000293/) as Eddard Stark, Warden of the North and Lord of Winterfell.

(http://imgur.com/Uhx3m.jpg)   Mark Addy (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0004692/) as Robert Baratheon, King of the Seven Kingdoms

(http://imgur.com/DjU2K.jpg)    Lena Headey (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0372176/) as Cersei Lannister, his Queen, and daughter of Lord Tywin Lannister, head of one of the most powerful families in Westeros.

(http://imgur.com/CKTNp.jpg)   Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0182666/) was Jaime Lannister, Cersei's brother.  Killed the crazed King Aerys during Robert's rebellion, earning him the nickname The Kingslayer

(http://imgur.com/kPph6.jpg)    Peter Dinklage (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0227759/) as Tyrion Lannister, dwarf brother of Jaime and Cersei.  Not well-respected in his family due to his dwarfism.

(http://imgur.com/371io.jpg)    Emilia Clarke (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3592338/) as Daenerys Targaryen, exiled princess and one of the last of House Targaryen, the former rulers of Westeros.

(http://imgur.com/JSS4m.jpg)    Harry Lloyd (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0516003/) as Viserys Targaryen, Daenerys's older brother intent to retake his father's throne at any cost.

(http://imgur.com/DecSM.jpg)   Jason Momoa (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0597388/) as Khal Drogo, leader of a large army of powerful, savage warriors.  Viserys sells Daenerys to him as a bride in return for an army to take back the Iron Throne.

I'm *really* excited about this series, both as a fan of HBO and a fan of the books.  I know I can't be the only one here that's looking forward to this.

Pleeeeease keep this thread spoiler-free for those here that haven't read the series, or at least big flashing warning signs in your posts that SPOILERS ARE AHEAD.

Fuck yeh! :w00t: It's really easy to film something you want set in medieval times over here. Lots of open landscapes, fields, forestry, mountains. I just have to walk outside my estate and down the road a bit and I can see Mt.Slemish off in the distance.

Sounds like a good show, I'm definately curious about it now.

Dear god, I've just started reading A Game of Thrones, and I'M SO FUCKING EXCITED ABOUT THIS SHOW *_____*! From the very first page I could totally picture what I was reading as played out on screen. Aaaah.

I've never been a fan of this kind of fantasy (as in... war dramallama, kings and queens and opposing families), but thissssss is something completely different. I have no clue why. To begin with I thought it was because of the way it's written (each chapter jumping from viewpoint to viewpoint), but there's got to be more to it than that. I haven't devoured a book like this since the last Harry Potter 8D; I'm about 40% in (percentage because ebooks are awesome and % > page numbers) and I just wish I had more time to sit down and read, because I want more, more, more 8D

The cast all look fantastic, I'm completely enthralled by Emilia Clarke as Daenerys Targaryen :inlove: can't wait to see her in action

Watched this morning OH MY GOD GETTING MORE AND MORE EXCITED

Everyone looks so fucking perfect TT___TT

Omg I can't wait to love Tyrion. lol

Sean Bean is capturing Eddard Stark even TOO well, because I found him boring in the book and he seems boring in the previews hahahaha
I'd still hit it though. I mean, he's LIKEABLE yes, but he's so honourable that he's actually kinda boring ya know.

I WANT TO WATCH IT AGAIN OMG I CAN'T WAIT IT LOOKS SO PERFECT.

Everyone looks so fucking perfect TT___TT

Word.

Haha, you think Eddard is boring? I find him such a strong character, I  him. Though speaking of favourites I think mine are Daenerys, Arya, and Jon Snow. In no particular order.

*o*

Am I the only one thinking they made Cersei too pretty for the show? also, I couldn't help but giggle every time Viserys appeared in the Inside special :nervous and I finally figured out why he looked so familiar. He's been in two episodes of Doctor Who!
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: shirenuファクトリー on December 08, 2010, 09:13:56 AM
Well idk, the further the 1st book gets the more boring he gets. That was my feeling... And I guess I was disappointed because he isn't able to stop certain things from happening.

My favs are Tyrion and Arya... = the unlikely heroes, I suppose :3 Dany too, tho sometimes I'm not sure I like Dany because she's Dany, or because some of the most interesting stuff happens to her (so her chapters are always worth looking forward to).

Least favourite? Catelyn. She's like the queen of "woe is me". Which is understandable, but... doesn't make it any less grating.

Aren't Cersei and Jaime supposed to be extremely beautiful  I'm gonna feel so guilty for finding Jaime hot. I'm a bit disappointed that Cersei's oldest son is so ugly, because even if it fits his personality, I thought he was described as pretty in the book. lol Or maybe he always was ugly, but Sansa saw him differently just because he was a prince :/ ...I also imagined the son having long-ish locks, so basically he doesn't look anything like I imagined him to. haha

...I *think* I managed to discuss this topic without spoiling too much  It's such a fine art

I guess Jamie and Cersei are supposed to be ridiculously pretty, but I tend to forget character descriptions. Her character has got something to do with it, I guess. I just don't want her to be pretty T_T;

Oh my god, the language geek in me is stupidly excited about this....;

The Making Game of Thrones blog has posted a long, detailed guide to basic Dothraki.

Quote
David J. Peterson, a conlanger (or inventor of languages) worked with the Language Creation Society and the creators of 'Game of Thrones' to design a full Dothraki tongue for use on the upcoming HBO series. The details of his process (which are pretty fascinating) have been reported around the web and picked up by fan sites like Winter Is Coming and Westeros. Here on "Making Game of Thrones," David will be offering a series of crash courses in the Dothraki language, beginning with this introductory lesson

The NY Times review of the series is pretty lol worthy (http://tv.nytimes.com/2011/04/15/arts/television/game-of-thrones-begins-sunday-on-hbo-review.html)

Yet another female journalist who doesn't seem to comprehend that not all girls like Sex in the City or the latest romantic comedy and that some girls might actually prefer sci-fi and fantasy. Even going so far as to suggest that such a woman isn't 'real'. Besides, it's a terrible review that doesn't even discuss characters or plot (she thinks the long lasting seasons is the main thrust of the show? Seriously?) It'd be sad if it wasn't so funny.
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: shirenuファクトリー on April 16, 2011, 02:48:25 PM
^ One would think that NY Times would have more professional journalists than that, aren't they supposed to have a good rep? Guess not then lol

Seriously ALL the negative reviews so far have only focused on the fact that it's FANTASY. Which really says nothing at all but that the reviewer is close-minded and sad. They haven't said bad things about the characters, plot, acting, production etc... Only the fact that it's fantasy. Some people...

Oh, except I heard that some reviewer didn't like it that the characters aren't clearly good or evil. HOW DARE THEY CONFUSE THE POOR INNOCENT VIEWERS SO
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: Tuffty on April 16, 2011, 04:13:25 PM
^ "OH NOES A FANTASY WITHOUT CLEAR STEREOTYPES, WHATEVER SHALL I DO?!"

Stupid woman probably couldn't keep up with a story that has more characters than she can count with the fingers on her hand.

The thing I find funny about views on fantasy is that it's deemed to be entirely masculine and only men can enjoy it. But how is that the case when the archetype people have about guys who enjoy fantasy/sci-fi is that they're viewed as being less masculine for liking it and not being out there being the quarterback of the football team or something? It's a stupid stereotype up there with 'Video games are bad for you because they're video games hurr durr'

I just finished reading the book. All I'll say is, the praise is well merited. One of the best novels I've read in some time and I've already placed an order for the second one. If the TV series follows the book closely which it appears to have done, then there's no doubt in my mind things will get incredibly epic.

Title: Re: A Game of Thrones

Most of here can testify to what your friend has said. It's very close to the events in the book, sometimes the dialogue is even lifted from the book, word for word. The latest episode contains the most original scenes that aren't found in the book, but it's a testament to the writers and producers that the new scenes don't feel out of place at all. Some of them are there for exposition (Like Tyrion's discussion with Theon Greyjoy or Sansa's history pop quiz) that you could only ever find in the book, which is understandable, but some go some way to better explore the characters (Jon's conversation with Sam while cleaning the mess hall) probably because it's a lot easier to write out what the characters are thinking in the books, but not so easy on TV.

The only complaint I see from most people is that there's not enough time given to the direwolves :nervous It's understandable, they're meant to be bigger than most wolves at the time so I imagine the filming logistics of getting a wolf to behave whilst the actors are doing their thing, or even the CGI costs to make them slightly bigger in size would be just unnecessary. I'm not fussed. In fact, you know that when you do see them, it just makes it that much more awesome.

I watched the last couple episodes and... damn. Sooooo good. :shocked I don't wanna tell anyone how to parent but imo that kid is a little old for breastfeeding

I gotta say I kinda hated Jaime Lannister up till now but I suddenly am starting to like him. Sure he is a huge evil dick sometimes especially to the Starks but I like how he looks out for his brother and he showed he was honorable in battle during the sword fight with Ned Stark.

In the book, Eddard and Jaime don't even cross swords, and Eddard injures his leg by falling from his horse during the fight. Though I think the sword fight is actually more awesome for that reason Zoolander said, in showing Jaime's honour in battle which you didn't really find in the book.

Speaking of crossing swords, I could have done without hearing the sound of Renly getting a BJ from Ser Loras. I can't remember, but has it ever been mentioned that those two were romantically involved in the book? Also, what was up with seeing Theon's penis? Like that shot didn't even make sense cause it was all flaccid yet a few seconds before he was doing that prostitute. :o :o Pretty unnecessary but then, all the boob shots are unnecessary too I guess. And the breast feeding scene! Oh man, I was surprised they had included that, but that is great

Judging by the previews and even the title of next week's episode, I think we all know what major event is going to happen and it's going to be awesome.

I can't remember, but has it ever been mentioned that those two were romantically involved in the book?
There were hints, but they were only hints... In later books the hints become more obvious, but you still have to be paying attention. It's definitely canon though!

Like Loras talking about how he had just been ... praying with Renly before something happened...

And in some book (this is spoiler free) there is a line where Jaime says something about sticking something so deep in someone's arse that "not even Loras has been there" (...or Renly. I forget. lol have I mentioned I'm not good with quotes)

But yeah if it wasn't for online communities, I would've missed it. I'm a wee bit disappointed in myself for missing the signs, but ya know there ARE quite a few characters in these books and the details tend to get blurred...

I'll say! doesn't help when it seems like everyone in the book has a name.

I can't help but laugh anytime I hear Robert laugh. That wheezy, chesty laugh that makes you think he could cough up a lung at any moment  Also forgot to mention about the debut of Bronn! :w00t: Badass! I'm hope they keep the rapport between him and Tyrion. But poor Jory :( When I read that part in the book I said 'NO' before Eddard did

Man, now I have to wait two weeks for new stuff. At least ep 8 is written by GRRM and called "The Pointy End" so I can't imagine it being that bad. :P

Can I just say that the delivery of that line "It was all I ever wanted." was done perfectly. Harry Lloyd was a powerhouse as Viserys this week. Here's his thoughts on the scene (http://seriable.com/game-of-thrones-harry-lloyd-describes-viserys-golden-moment/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+Seriable+%28Seriable%29). For some reason when I read it in the book, I thought Khal dumped the pot and all on his head like some helmet or...well...a crown. Didn't think he just poured it out. I thought Khal Drogo didn't have too much to do on the acting front, but the little facial gestures towards Daenerys and Viserys in this episode really said a lot without even speaking. Bronn easily had the best line of the episode

Dang the "fire can't kill dragons" line at the end made me literally say "woa!". Hey, Viserys was asking for it....

Tyrion's parts are always awesome.  Manipulating the system, the confessions, giving the guard the purse while walking away like a boss. (http://i.imgur.com/sQgIS.gif)

Now to watch the next episode right away or not...

Ok caved and watched ep 7 That fucking little inbred prick Joffrey and his mom... hopefully Khal Drogo will invade and give them a nice crown along with Littlefinger.

This episode was like battle of the speeches. 8)

That "we are lannisters, this is how we roll" speech was so smooth, considering at the moment he was friggin skinning+gutting an animal. :shocked

King Robert going all sobsob "I love you, man~ I totally believe you're writing what I'm saying. dude. now leave me and get me a big turkey~" :cow:

Khal Drogo going all macho "I will give my Moon's child eight TVs! and destroy all the others with my beard!!" (something to that level) :P
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones

Don't forget Littlefinger's speech  The reaction from people is always going to be that it went on too long or it's too gratuitous but here's a post I found equating there was a purpose behind it all

Quote
In a sense, Littlefinger's equating prostitution as analogous to politics in form. Brilliant analogy. Both a political player and a prostitute have to fallaciously flatter the people they serve in order to be successful in their respective professions. Whether its a fake orgasm or a fake vote of confidence, they need to gain the trust of their clients in order to get ahead.

So it wasn't just about the "Play with her arse" bit. XD

Also, one of my favourite moments in the book gets wonderfully translated, as Khal Drogo promises war as the stars bear witness. Badass.

Well that last episode everything went to hell. Can't say I am too upset I mean pretty much the whole series Ned has been wandering around like a lost and injured puppy. His kids seem a little smarter anyway. The thing that makes my blood boil is Joffrey's general fuckery.

Well, opinions on the finale/series?

The books and the TV show have gripped me in a way that no other series has done in such a long time. I think part of it's appeal is in just how it delivers those story twists and turns. For me personally, I knew as soon as Robert raised the command to assassinate Daenerys that it would spark the Dothraki to retaliate. But I never suspected that it would last for all of a few minutes, and that Khal Drogo would die so suddenly. So not only has it played with my expectations but there's been genuine twists that I'd never see coming. And by that of course I'm referring to the deaths of Viserys, Robert and Eddard. Holy shit.

Back to the series and I couldn't be happier with how it turned out. I'm trying to think of certain characters I can pick out as being standouts but you know, as I think of each one, I can't imagine those characters as anyone else other than the actors who play them. They're pretty much, all of them, perfectly cast. If pushed, I will say some of my favourite performances have come from the likes of Eddard, Arya, Jon, Tyrion, Drogo, Daenerys, Jorah, Bronn. They're all brilliant. As are the bad guys, Jaime, Cersei, Viserys....And Joffrey!! Holy shit, I know I had my reservations cause in the book he's described as being rather handsome when the person they cast is...not? XD But I certainly do not care anymore cause he's just a brilliant actor who plays that role so well. Still want to smack the little prick for killing Eddard but I have to keep telling myself that it's not the actors fault. XD

It also helps that I have had you guys to discuss it with, it's led to my enjoyment of it even more. :D Almost finished the 2nd book! A few hundred or so pages left to go!

Loved the whole ride of the first season.
@Tuffy just wait till you get to book 3. One of my friends that recomended the book had gotten so pissed at one point that he threw the book across the room and called his son (who got him and later me to read the series to bitch him out)
That reminds me to call the cable company and cancel HBO now that the shows done for now(timed during a free 3 month trial so no cost so far)

Never read the book. but the show is giving me an urge to check the rest of the story.

I think Ned was the main drive and interest for this season.
Everybody is like stuck in a s***hole of a life. But Ned is in a place of power having all these options. He just always manages to choose the worst one, by putting honor above family and country. His demise sets a nice stage of chaos for the coming winter.
His character also let everyone have a good  once a week, haha~
And there was a small war made in his honor.

I loooooooooooove it so much!!

HBO is doing a great job with this. It's awesome that they have some trolololol moments in there too, like that scene with Littlefinger and the whores, and that Pycelle scene. Hilarious xD

Generally I think they're doing a good job writing all the characters. And I LOVE THE CAST.

Also I loved Tyrion before the show had started (he might be my favourite literary character ever), but with Peter Dinklage's performance, if possible I might even love him more goddamnit. He's such a smartass, but portrays the kindness so well, too. All the emotions that I know book Tyrion to have from his point of view chapters, Dinklage brings on screen so effortlessly and subtly. It's BEAUTIFUL to watch him bring this character to life. I hear people aren't impressed with his English accent, but you know... In the end it's a fantasy setting, so how bad is it really if someone's English accent isn't perfect? I mean it IS Westeros, not medieval England.

Liam Cunningham has been cast as Davos Seaworth (http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/07/19/liam-cunningham-davos/)

All I see lately from hardcore fans is just constant bitching and begging at the producers to *BOOK 2 SPOILERS* make the Battle of Blackwater as epic as it is in the books. Can these people just realise that it is still a TV show, with a TV budget? I've total faith that they'll make it as epic as it can be.

There will be a GoT panel at Comic-Con tomorrow so look out for that. It'll be moderated by George R.R. Martin himself and the panel will consist of:

Quote
...the two men who turned it into a TV series, David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, as well as stars Emilia Clarke (Daenerys Targaryan), Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo), Peter Dinklage (Tyrion Lannister), Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (Jaime Lannister) and Kit Harington (Jon Snow).

And then S2 filming begins in earnest next Mon in N.Ireland. I'll have my own little birds whispering to me like Varys.

Winter is coming ... this spring. HBO has announced 'Game of Thrones' Season 2 will premiere in April 2012. Can you hold out six more months?

No specific premiere date has been announced.

Production of Season 2 has had some weather-related problems. In early September, five people were injured by high winds on the Northern Ireland set. Meanwhile, the cast has been growing as more book characters prepare to make their appearance in the TV show.

The first season of the hit HBO series was honored with 13 Emmy nominations. Peter Dinklage took home the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and the show won for Main Title Design.

I can't wait no more! Also they've confirmed the casting of another character...*SPOILERS*

Ygritte. Looks like they're moving some stuff from Book 3 into this season if that's the case. Though I wonder when they're gonna announce the Reeds. (http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/10/10/game-of-thrones-rose-leslie/)

But I do hope they do something with A Feast For Crows because it's my least favourite book thus far. Bad news is that the game is developed by Cyanide, who also developed the underwhelming first Game of Thrones video game, Genesis... so I'm not exactly getting my hopes up.

Finally got the chance to watch the first episode. I'm...intrigued.

First impressions:
- I hate the Lannisters, except for Tyrion.
- Dany is hot.  :inlove: Her brother is a douche.
- inner geek is telling me I should learn Dothraki.

Maybe after watching 2 or 3 more episodes I'll think about going to a Barnes & Noble bookstore in the city and read a few pages of the first book before I decide to buy a copy.

2 chapters to read tonight and I'll be up to 200 pages. I've been reading GoT for 5 days.  :panic:

With the Struggle going on, I could probably finish both books and maybe a bit of Book 3 by the end of the month.

^ The first season was all about the first book. Season two starts off with the second book.

So far I've read the equivalent of the first two episodes. Just need to read a Daenerys chapter and a Bran chapter tonight before I go to sleep.

Decided to geek out a bit and got myself an early xmas present: The Game of Thrones card game core set. Being a recovering MTG-junkie, anything similar combined with A Song of Ice and Fire mythos was just too hard to resist. Also I've mainly read good things about it so, yeah, why not.

Plays 2-4, core set has enough stuff for four, with 4 house decks (Stark, Lannister, Baratheon, Targaryen) and 2 evil teaser cards for houses Greyjoy and Martell. It's sort of a collectible card game, but cards have no rarities and decks can be simply expanded from monthly expansion packs. So while there's a ton of cards you CAN buy, you'll always get what you want.

Here's the game entry at Boardgamegeek (http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/39953/a-game-of-thrones-the-card-game). You can also watch the intro vid on Fantasy Flight Games website (http://new.fantasyflightgames.com/ffg_content/agotlcg/tutorial/player.html) with thorough explanation on the gameplay.

Art's a bit of a mixed bag, some cards look amazing, some are quite plain. Overall it's at least functional.

Post by: shirenuファクトリー on December 31, 2011, 07:16:38 PM
^ I ignore all the ages all the time  GRRM has even acknowledged that he done fucked them up. He was originally planning on a time hop aging everyone up, but then timeline shit happened, and he ended up having to cancel that, so everyone's younger than they're "supposed" to be. (Not that that changes early storyline for Dany...) Other than that, he doesn't have kids, so I think he's a little removed from how kids age.

Even if in a medieval type society kids had to grow up faster, some of the stuff is a stretch... So I always imagine everyone like 3 years older than their book age, depending on who it is
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: Hart on December 31, 2011, 07:44:59 PM
^ Yeah, I ignore those ages as well and just imagine their TV counterparts instead.

So close to finishing the first book. 57 pages to go. Would've finished earlier but those Catelyn and Eddard chapters frustrated me so much I had to put the book down a couple times.
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: Tuffty on December 31, 2011, 08:07:45 PM
I've had moments like that throughout the books for sure. I remember reading the last Arya chapter and what happened in it made me put the book down but then I just had to read what happened next so much so that I read the rest of the book and avoided watching the Royal Wedding. I was kicking myself for not having the second book on hand as well, but it's a mistake I haven't repeated since!

General word of advice, if you're going to look stuff up about it, don't read any of the comments sections. You get two types of book fans in them. One, they spoil aspects of the story out of badness. Or two, they're open for discussion on story threads but are so completely unaware that not everyone has read the books and thus spoil the story unintentionally. Just don't read comments.

All that's been said is Spring 2012, with the likelihood of wanting to air at around the same time as Season 1. In which case you're looking at around mid-April.

And start reading already! You'll get hooked from the first few chapters alone!

Ain't that the truth. The first day I read A Game of Thrones I didn't realize I was already past 50 pages before I put the book down.

Finally started to read A Clash of Kings and by Gods that was a long prologue. A good prologue nonetheless.

I still haven't read or seen this series yet.

Quote
Six new Game of Thrones RPG screenshots have appeared on the horizon to herald the arrival of Cyanide Studio's forthcoming A Song of Ice and Fire video game adaptation for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC.

The shots depict the game's two main leads—Night Watch devotee Mors and the red priest Alester—in various states of combat; as well as a few familiar faces and environments plucked from George R.R. Martin's fantasy novels. As detailed in the announcement from UK publisher Focus Home Interactive, both Mors and Alester will venture forth in their own separate “chapters”, with Mors' journey taking him from his post at the Wall to King's Landing by way of the unfriendly territory known at the Gift, and Alester's travels taking him from Riverspring to the Red Keep. Much like the books upon which their adventures are based, both paths will eventually cross in a flurry of sword-play, stabbing, and possibly one or two beheadings.

Game of Thrones RPG is being developed for a spring 2012 release, with publishing duties falling to Focus Home Interactive for European fans, and Atlus North America for Western Westeros enthusiasts. Check out the game's progress on the recently launched website, or in the newest batch of images below:

The one thing giving me hope for that RPG at the moment is that the story is written by GRRM himself. At the same time, it doesn't necessarily guarantee it will be a great game script. But one to watch out for definately.

So, picked up book one at the weekend finally and I'm around p.100 (first episode)
It's really amazing how close the series stays to the book (at least to this point where I am right now), it's almost boring to read, since I already know, whats going to happen next and even the dialogue is 1:1 copy from the book XD
I hope I can finish book two before season 2 starts, to experience the whole thing the other way round.
Also love the structure of the books, with each chapter being from one persons perspective, so you're always on edge wanting to know, what will happen next when it's that characters turn again.

Here's a bunch of photos of the characters to appear in S2. I was going to share the Facebook link instead but as it turns out, GoT book fans have to be the biggest trolls on the planet, spoiling it for everyone. In fact, I myself found out something that happens in A Dance With Dragons that I haven't read yet, something major that will no doubt ruin the impact it's meant to carry when it happens. And it was the very first comment so I couldn't avoid it. So pissed off right now. Said it before and I'll say it again people, don't read any kind of fan discussion on the show or you'll get spoiled. No FB posts, no tweets, no Youtube comments. Nothing

Since I watched the TV show first and then started reading the novels, I mostly imagine the characters like they are depicted in the series (or slightly altered), even if the description in the book gives a completely different image of their looks. But there are a few exceptions like Osha for instance. In my minds eye she looks so not like Natalia Tena, Sandor Cleagen is much more burned and when I read Tyrion chapters I hear Peter Dinklage's voice in my head XD

How is it for everyone else? When you knew the books first, did your image of the characters change after watching the show?

I had learned of the books through this topic in the first place! Got GoT as a birthday present and seeing the promotional trailers beforehand meant I already had an image for those characters going into the book. Now I know how older fans feel like as we go into the second season onwards, with new characters being introduced and seeing if they match with the idea I had in my head.

Finished book two at the weekend.
This series pushes me two new reading levels, I swear!
GOT was the fattest book I've read thus far, it took me exactly a month.
Then ACOK comes along with 900+ pages I literally devoured in exactly one week!!! That's two new records for me XD
I really need to make a break right now and do other things. If I started on ASOS now (which I REALY want to) then I wouldn't have a life anymore until I was finished with ADOD!!!

Actually I wanted to let myself be surprised and wait til I see her on the show, but curiosity got the better of me and I googled who was cast as one of my favourite characters on ACOK: Asha Greyjoy!
And I'm pleasently surprised (and relieved) Click!!! (http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/08/02/game-of-thrones-greyjoy-asha/)
I can totally picture her as Asha.
But WTF renaming her to Yara???

OK!! GAME OF THRONES WATCHING PARTY. Two weekends, 3-3, 2-2 episodes because Amp says we should speed through the earlier eps because he didn't like them ah ha.

When to watch? Well it's going to take 3 hours to watch 3 episodes. If the final ep ends 11pm my time, then we should start around 8pm my time, which is... 10am in LA :D :D :D and so, 1pm in New York, and... 3am in Japan. Well, I guess nobody from Japan is joining.

That is my proposal. Saturday & Sunday. Wut up?

So here are details on all the special features you will get in the Blu-Ray set (the DVD set does not have the animated histories, In-Episode Guide, Anatomy of an Episode or the Dragon Eggs).
The Complete Guide to Westeros

A comprehensive, interactive guide of the houses, histories, and lands of Game of Thrones. The guide is broken down into three sections:

Houses – Contains six gorgeously animated histories of the great houses as told by characters from the series: Robb and Bran (Stark), Catelyn (Arryn), Robert (Baratheon), Tywin (Lannister), Viserys (Targaryen) and Jeor Mormont (Night’s Watch). Also includes bios of each member of the house and their various servants and vassals.

Histories & Lore – Nineteen animated histories of the Seven Kingdoms, as told by various characters from the series. Certain histories have multiple characters telling the same story from differing viewpoints. Here is the full list of histories with the character(s) that narrate each:
The Children of the Forest, The First Men, and the Andals – Bran
The Age of Heroes – Bran
The Old Gods and the New – Bran and Catelyn
The History of the Night’s Watch – Jeor, Luwin, Tywin
The Order of the Maesters – Luwin
Valyria & the Dragons – Viserys
The Field of Fire – Viserys, Robb
Mad King Aerys – Robert, Luwin, Tywin
Robert’s Rebellion – Robert, Viserys
The Sack of King’s Landing – Viserys, Robert, Luwin, Tywin

Lands – Learn more about the regions and lands of Westeros and Essos in this interactive map.
In-Episode Guide

The same content that is available in the Complete Guide, only accessible via an on-screen menu while watching the episode. The content available changes based on what is happening in the episode and certain aspects are only accessible once they are “unlocked” by the action on screen.
Anatomy of an Episode

A view into how they filmed episode six of the first season, with various behind-the-scenes features and interviews popping up throughout the episode.
Making Game of Thrones

A 30-minute look into the making of Game of Thrones. New interviews with Nina Gold and her casting associate Robert Sterne, Ramin Djawadi, Tom Martin (construction manager), Adam McInnes (vfx supervisor), Jim Warren (animal handler), and others. Of course, we also get quotes from David & Dan, GRRM, the directors and much of the cast as well. Some new cast interviews too, from Rory McCann, Alfie Allen, Kate Dickie, Iain Glen, and Finn Jones. The feature covers all aspects of the production from casting to set building, stunts and visual effects, costumes and more.
More Behind the Scenes Videos

Character Profiles – Short videos where the actors talks about the characters they play. Same as the ones released prior to Season One airing.

From the Book to the Screen – GRRM and David & Dan talk about the challenges of adapting this story to television.

There could be an issue with the streaming links in that they are sloooooooow. It's no Youtube, I'm on a decent connection and it takes 5 mins to stream 1 minute of footage. Seeing if I can download the season somehow but just thought I should give a heads up to those who were also thinking of streaming.

I can see why it's there, you learn about it so quickly and the it's given fairly short shrift in the books. Plus, it just gives an excuse for more sexy times on the show
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: shirenuファクトリー on February 25, 2012, 02:28:59 PM
Yeah I know it's there for the tv storytelling, *SEMI-SPOILERISH??? FOR BOOK 2 AND 3* but the more they romanticize it, they more they get removed from the fact that Robb is a fucking idiot, and then probably more ppl will hate on Catelyn again, who's only trying to be the voice of reason. OH WELL.

Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: shirenuファクトリー on February 25, 2012, 04:00:44 PM
^ TBH I found her chapters a bore because she was always so damn depressed and wallowing in self-pity. But when it comes to her ACTIONS and strategy, I don't think there's wrong with just about anything she did. You know there are people who blame THE ENTIRE WAR on her  Like everything was happy joyjoy before she "arrested" Tyrion. LOL.

That's why I was looking forward to seeing her on tv, because on tv we don't have to hear those thoughts of hers and only get to see the actions. And I think Michelle's done a wonderful job as Catelyn. I'm just worried that she'll be portrayed or interpreted as a villain because of Robb's idiocy.
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: Tuffty on February 25, 2012, 04:29:03 PM
Catelyn is indeed the voice of reason but arresting Tyrion was stupid. Not only for deciding to arrest him on a chance meeting but for even thinking that Tyrion would be as foolish as to give an assassin his own dagger. It's because of that, Jaime and Tywin went out looking for him with their posses, pillaging and raping all the while. She's not the sole reason, far from it, but it was an act of stupidity that helped kick it all off. Littlefinger said it all.

Quote
The Starks. Quick tempers. Slow minds.

I still get that funny feeling down in my pants when I hear Emilia deliver Daenery's war lines.
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: shirenuファクトリー on February 25, 2012, 05:20:08 PM
^ But didn't Littlefinger want that to happen?? He's the one who told Cat about the dagger, no? Don't be deceived by him, everything he does or says is for a reason.

Based on what information Cat had the moment, it wasn't stupid... 1) She didn't personally know Tyrion, so she couldn't have possibly known that Tyrion would indeed not be stupid enough to give an assassin his own dagger.  2) The information about the dagger came from an old friend that she trusts. 3) It would've raised enough suspicion had Tyrion returned home telling everyone where he had seen Catelyn on the road. 4) They call Tyrion the "Imp"... It's not fair to be prejudiced, but that's how people work.

It was Catelyn's chance to immediately do something she thought was right, or return home knowing that the "enemy" once again is ahead having information it wasn't supposed to have. Mehzzles

In other news, I've gone slightly bonkers with the card game. Yes, that is two core sets, Martell & Greyjoy expansions and some assorted stuff.

Wish I could say amazon.co.uk isn't currently delivering a few more expansions to me, but alas, I am weak.

One of my fave cards, not just power-wise. Great art from a sad, sad scene.

And of course I had to get another Arya. This one's probably my fave pic of her, too. Capturing that slight horseface pretty well!

So for the next watching party, should we implement a drinking game?

Some of the rules mentioned so far:

- 1 shot whenever somebody says "bastard"
- 1 drink every time Robert finishes a cup/horn/flask
- 1 shot whenever "Winter is coming" is said
- 1 shot every time Viserys says "dragon"

Any other suggestions?

- Shot anytime a boob is shown (Note: 1 shot for one boob, 2 shots for both)

How about 3 shots whenever the dragon eggs are shown.

I think I've mentioned this on IRC:
- 2 shots whenever Tyrion mentions his cock.

A browser-based Game of Thrones MMO is currently development, publisher Bigpoint has announced.

It's sharing development duties with Artplant - the same studio it teamed with on Battlestar Galactica Online.

All we know about the game so far is that it will be built using the Unity engine, though more details are expected out of the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco next week.

The developer doesn't have the most impressive record, so I won't get my hopes up on the quality. I sure wish Turbine would buy the rights, considering their amazing work with Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons and Dragons Online (both Free to Play, and fantastic MMOs).

Dudes, so! Despite being extremely excited about the show, and just having finished the book - I was not able to watch more than three episodes when the first season ran. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT WAS UP WITH THAT. It must have been the post-reading adrenaline getting in away of all of the pretty.

I recently got the first season on blu ray, and oh man. I watched it all in two days. The timing is perfect, I can't wait until April comes around. I haven't read the other books in the series, though and considering my experience with the first season, I'm going to wait until the second season is over before contemplating maybe reading the rest

I'm left feeling a little bit 'meh' by some of the delivery of his lines, but I'm sure my opinion will change when I get to see him in full. I don't get how people think he should be bulkier, wasn't he always described as bring rather gaunt in the books?

Oh lawd who is stoked for tomorrow? I told my bud I'd watch the eps with him on monday/tuesday nights but fuck dunno if I can wait for that long. I've watched every ep of season 1 at least five times so doubt it's gonna be a problem... I'll probably end up watching the new eps at least once before our designated time. :P

What's the opinion of the 1st episode then? I was actually quite shocked to see the would go so far as to show the infantcide. Joffrey's such a bastard. Robb's direwolf looks so badass. Felt more as a straight continuation to the first series more than anything, it left my dad really confused seeing as he hasn't seen the 1st season again in months so he's really struggling with names

Based on what Grey Wind looks like, I wonder how they're gonna animate the other direwolves. Still can't wait for the Asha/Yara reveal.

I was more shocked at the display of power Cersei had over Littlefinger in their confrontation.

Ser Dontos....I dunno. Looked different than what I had imagined, unless I missed something in A Clash of Kings.

Doreah and her dragon fetish continues.  XD  Poor Silver, btw.

Of course it's not Game of Thrones without Joffrey getting slapped.

And Melisandre....

The second episode practically made up for the lack of boobs in the first episode. It was almost pornographic! Another great episode, loved the scene with Tyrion/Janos Slynt and Theon/Yara was as funny as expected. Oh and uh, that scene with Melisandre too, that was..hmmmmmmm

And in good news, it's been renewed for a third season :twothumbs

So it seems we missed out on episode 2 rewatch last weekend on IRC >_> Wanna do both ep 2 and 3 this weekend?

Oh man episode 3 was soooo goooood. Tyrion schoolin' folks around, Margaery being just the person I imagined her to be in the books (although it was never really confirmed since she wasn't a POV character, we hardly hear her speak there; but this is still the image I got), Brienne being super tall, ARYA  Sophie Turner KILLING as Sansa... And fuck Shae.

The latest episode? Ep 4? Could well be my favourite one to date.

I had mentioned it in the IRC viewing party over the weekend that a read an early review, where it had said that people may well be turned off GoT by what they saw in this episode. And they were right, 3 scenes in particular made some uncomfortable viewing.

- Joffrey's 'fetish'
- The amputation of the soldiers foot. The sounds of the saw going to work..
- And what happens if you combine a rat and a bucket with some fire

Some great moments in this too, Catelyn and Littlefinger's scene, Daenerys 'releasing the dragon', Tyrion bitchslapping down Lancel with words alone. Some great lines too like Bronn "There's no cure for being a cunt." for being so obvious and Renly "Is he a ham?" for being so subtle.

And the new actor for the Mountain looks the part. He's got a scary ass voice too.

That's all I gotta say about ep 4.

Oh and Roose Bolton...don't know what to say about his appearance.

Watched episode 5 yesterday, the story is progressing so fast, I feel like there's not much left to fill the next five episodes with XD
I have a question though concerning Margery Tyrell. She has a bigger part in the series as she had in ACoK, is this purely to up the boob factor for the show or does she play a bigger role in the next book?
No spoilers please, I haven't started ASoS, a simple yes or no answer will do!

Another good episode. I'm just sad that Bran got the green dream that Jojen Reed had in the books. Does that mean the Reed kids won't show up this season?  :(  Pyrat Pree looks as ugly as I had imagined. Once again Dorreah's dragon fetish is shown. Jaqen H'ghar is....Jaqen H'ghar.   Seriously I like the actor's performance. At least there's some white in his hair.

I am dissapointed  in Qhorin Halfhand in the tv series. He is supposed to use his left hand to wield his swords, not his right since it is missing 3 fingers to grip the sword properly. Ygritte is also more attractive in the show than what I had imagined in the books lol. The show is still a good watch regardless of how much it deviates from the books.

I've been thinking, maybe they won't let Jack do an interview, since everybody could see then, that he's a real nice guy in rl (lke all his co-actors are saying) and that would SOOOO ruin King Joffrey's credibility XD

Post by: shirenuファクトリー on June 04, 2012, 11:23:21 PM
OH man, done with the finale. Haha I was about to read comments at ONTD, but the first comment I read was a complaint so I decided not to even go there now.

Because I really did enjoy it, I thought all the main characters got their moment, I thought the ending left a suitable feeling of "what's next???"

There were definitely changes from the books. But I enjoyed it, so I don't care. I even loved that moment with Tyrion and Shae, and I hate book!Shae. It's just, it's so well done.

Loved the house of the undying even if it was probably completely different from the books. Loved that they kept the 'hints' from the books, but in a different way. I won't explain this because it's spoilerish?? o_o But good to see Dany back on her feet again.

All in all, GOOD TIMES! I want to rewatch all the Tyrion and Sansa bits, since they are my favs 8)

Oh and :( to Winterfell...
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: Tuffty on June 09, 2012, 02:30:31 PM
Was pleasantly surprised by how good the House of the Undying stuff was here. Didn't really care for it in the book but the cinematography here was really well done, some wonderful shots of Dany in the snow. Good episode all round, really liked the Brienne & Jaime scene. I guess my initial thoughts were right, part of Tyrion's nose isn't missing, but he will have a nasty looking scar that he'll probably continue to have for the rest of the show.

But now to wait for another year :(
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: Hart on June 09, 2012, 03:56:55 PM
I wonder how many of the viewers who haven't read the books were glad that Tyrion is still alive? Or how about the brief return of Khal Drogo (with lil' Rhaego)?

I comfess I teared up a bit when Dany meets her 'sun and stars' and their unborn child.  :(
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: shirenuファクトリー on June 10, 2012, 10:21:12 PM
Well I have a somewhat spoilerific question concerning the "R + L = J" fan theory, so if you don't know about and don't want to know about it, I suggest you stop reading here :D

...Anyway, for those who haven't heard of it and want to hear of it, a popular theory is that Jon Snow's real parents are Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark. There are small hints about it throughout the books, and one of them is a scene in the House of the Undying (which wasn't on the show). As a result of his parentage, it's also a popular fan theory that Jon Snow and Dany will end up together (since Targaryens used to marry bro+sis etc)

SO, after witnessing the House of the Undying in the season finale... Does anyone find all the symbolism a little heavy on the side of supporting these theories? LOL She walks into the throne room whose ceiling appears to have been burned by dragons, with snow falling in. A song of ice and fire. And then to make it more obvious, she walks out of The Wall, where Jon Snow has gone earlier. Mang. Either the show is playing us by supporting hinted stuff from the books that so far is only theories, or they actually know more from GRRM - that this is actually the end game... And are already setting the foundations for it. o-o So wut wut in da butt butt
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: Hart on June 10, 2012, 10:31:51 PM
^ I've been thinking about that theory since the first book. Wouldn't it suck if GRRM is trolling us about Jon's real parentage?

(It's obvious that Hodor is the love child of Rhaegar and Lyanna. )
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: Tuffty on June 10, 2012, 11:09:21 PM
Interesting, never heard of that theory til now. I was gonna say 'But he doesn't have silver hair!' or 'But he gets hurt by fire!' but I guess you can argue that the Stark side of his blood makes that so. Besides, Viserys was a pure Targareyn and he got killed big time with fire

Yup there definitely was something. But the question is, whose information do we trust? Is GRRM just trying to throw us off, since a lot of people have picked up on the theory? We'll only find out for sure once there is something absolutely certain in the books about it - or if nothing special ever happens concerning Jon's parentage LOL.

I don't see it. Sounds to me like someone else saw a resemblance, kicked off about it, got some other people convinced and now it's presented as fact. Until someone involved in production comes out and confirms it, I don't think it is true. Also why is this outrage only coming out now, a year after S1?

I thought it was the staff who mentioned it in the first place o_o They were like "yeah we just had to use what we had available". And HBO issued an apology for using his head. No?

I finally caught up with the TV series in the books! Honestly, I started A Storm of Swords 3 nights ago and am almost halfway through already (and I didn't even read any yesterday). I always looks forward to the Jaime chapters and Jon's are just so exciting. T==I love the onion knight too, but seriously, Davos

About the R + L = J theory...

It seems possible. Ned does say the name of his former lover to Robert in both the first book and S1. But it'd make sense if he was lying. Let's face it, he's Eddard Stark and he'd protect his nephew (from Robert) over his honour.

I'll be a bit pissed if Jon Snow and Dany end up together, representing the song of ice and fire, mostly because it's pretty cheesy. I imagine it like, "Get it? Because Ice -> Snow."

I'll finally be able to start watching S2 after my exams are over. Finally.

Seems like the producers are in a spot of bother as the S1 finale featuring that brief cameo from President Bush has been pulled. (http://uk.ign.com/articles/2012/06/15/game-of-thrones-season-1-finale-pulled-due-to-bushs-head) Won't find it on iTunes, HBO Go and S1 DVD boxsets have even been recalled.

In shocking news, they've announced that they now won't be making Season 3.

.....Ah of course I'm kidding

Quote
Yes, it's official.

HBO has ordered a third season of GAME OF THRONES.

Like the first two seasons, it will be ten episodes long. This one will cover (roughly) the first half or thereabouts of A STORM OF SWORDS, the third novel in the series.

I'll be writing the seventh episode, with the working title "Autumn Storms."

Full details can be found at a dozen other places on the web, so I won't rehash 'em here. Just wanted to pass along the news to my faithful readers.

We had a grab event tonight at the Bloomsbury Theatre. Now I'm tired. night, all.

So, I spent the last six weeks or so watching S1 and S2!

I haven't read the books and I was completely unfamiliar with GoT, other than what I heard from the fanboys and fangirls in the IRC

Let's see, where to start... First of all, it's much more coarse than I expected. So much nudity and intercourse!
Keeping track of who is who and from which area wasn't as hard as I expected. Each area has it's distinct look, which makes it easy to follow and interesting to watch.

Even though I enjoyed watching it and the show kept me interested due to the little cliffhangers in each episode, I do have a number of issues with this series.
- It tries to hard to be epic / it takes itself too seriously. Especially in the beginning. Lines like "When you play the Game of Thrones you win or you die" just made me cringe.
- Related to point one, lack of humor. Other than some snappy dialog, mostly coming from Tyrion Lannister, there is barely any humor in this show.
- Too much build up. I felt like the entire S1 AND S2 have been nothing but build up. You don't get enough action to justify all that build up. For example, pretty much the entire S2 has been leading towards the battle at King's Landing, but the only proper action scene we got out of it so far was the massive fleet explosion in Ep 9. Same story with the white walker, the dragons, etc. etc. In this aspect, the pace of the show is really slow. The pace is slow, but when you get to a scene which really matters it's over in an instant.

I do like:
- Good balance of the supernatural stuff. Yes, there are dragons, black magic, undead and whatnot, but so far none of it has played a vital part. They let the humans battle it out among themselves first and I expect all the aforementioned stuff to come into play in later season. Actually, the dragons can breath fire and the white walkers are on their way, so I guess we'll see some in S3 already.
- Areas, costumes, etc all look good
- Despite the supernatural stuff, there is still room for realism. I like how important characters can actually die unexpectedly! Nobody is save, which definitely adds to the excitement.

That's about it I guess. Let's wait eight more months for S3! lol

woop first episode was pretty good, but what I mostly got out of it was that Tywin is SUCH a cunt.

Also, Margaery in this episode is the kind of lady I'd love to be if I existed in that world as a lady

Margaery was awesome in this episode.  :twothumbs

Do not know how I feel about that conversation between Ros and Shae.  :?

The best part of the episode was the return of a certain epic character from Season 1. And the dragons. And the Unsullied.

Will I have to learn Bastard Valyrian and/or High Valyrian for this season? I haven't even started on learning Dothraki.  :(

EDIT: I think I got my dad into Game of Thrones. He was asking me about Jon Snow and how he's Ned's son. Might lend him my DVD copies of the first 2 seasons if he wants to catch up. (Probably won't get him into the books since he'll get confused.)

Random question: What do they call the language used in most of Westeros? In our universe it's English, yes, but it can't be English there, right? I tried googling it but any search result with Game of Thrones and language, the results are all related to Dothraki or Valyrian.

Just curious.

Now that my laptop is back and working again, I sat down and watched ep.1-5 of S3 in one sitting.
It's so gooooood. And I bow to Diane Rigg, how could I ever doubt her Queen of Thorns.
The last time I felt so good watching GoT was when I watched S1 in two marathon sittings.
I think I'll do the same for the second half of the season... at least that's the plan, let's see if I can hold out five weeks longer.
But I have so many other shows to catch up, that shouldn't be a problem.

Ros noooo! Now we won't see this foxy lady again. Never had a problem with the Ros character like other book fans did.

One friend I follow on Twitter, who's also read the books, was going crazy over the latest episode, saying how the TV show is essentially fanfic at this point. Which I disagree with completely. The show's making some shortcuts e.g. giving Edric Storm's role to Gendry and some additions e.g. Theon's torture but it's all in service to making a better TV show. And it works, the show can't get bogged down with that many characters like in the books, it's too much already. I did think the last scene with Jon and Ygritte making out over a CGI vista was a bit cheesy. But it was saved by that scene between Tywin and Olenna and Theon's torture scene. The actor they've got for Ramsay is particularly good, I jumped a little bit out of my chair when he leapt up too. And how hard was that scene to watch?

Calling back to the episode before that, does anyone think the scene where Jon and Ygritte got into the bath together maybe should have come before their love scene? I mean Jon's doing that thing with his tongue down there at first where Ygritte probably hadn't washed for a long time. Brave man.

Well. Well, well, well. That scene finally happened. The one scene that all book fans were waiting for. Curious to know how hipsters here found it. Did it live up to your expectations or did it not? I was curiously excited but at the same time felt sick to my stomach. So in essence, yeah they nailed it. If I have to nitpick, then it's that the cutting of the throats looked pretty fake (obviously) but then that is nitpicking.

Not sure which was more gut wrenching...Talisa getting stabbed or knowing other minor characters were also involved in the massacre like Jon Umber.

I get a strange sort of twisted glee of watching reaction vids to it. Wonder how it feels for non-book readers who kept themselves free from spoilers for so long? The one thing they didn't include, but which I can see happening next week is, Robb being decapitated and Greywind's head sewn on. Maybe it's a bit much for the TV show. But I say push those buttons!

How does anyone think the season will end then? At what point in the book does it stop? No spoilers please!

My other side hobby from watching the reaction vids is the vine vids that cast members put up. Like:

Maisie Williams (Arya) reacting to last night's episode (spoilers) (https://vine.co/v/b3XZMHmxzxh)

Carice van Houten (Melisandre) introducing a new character for S4 (https://vine.co/v/b91tDaqK5vh)

Shit

Once I heard The Rains of Castamere start to play, I started getting shivers.

Talisa/Jayne noooooooo

I too nitpick at the fake throat cutting.

Too make it complete they should cut of Grey Wind's head and attach it to Robb's headless corpse.

Now excuse me while I watch in glee at the reaction vids.

^ There was a photographer there to take your photo. I guess you could get someone else to take your photo; I've see some people do that. There's also some printers nearby as well as a few iPads so you can review your photo and e-mail it to yourself. It depends on who's running the exhibit there and how they set it up.

If your dad's coming with you, I guess you can get him to record how well you do on The Blackwater Bay Experience and vice versa. I hope the venue where the exhibit is being held will be bigger than the one I've been too. Otherwise prepare to wait a while and imagine the long line outside to be the Kingsroad and the entrance to the exhibit as Castle Black on The Wall. (I called the gap in the line The Twins)

Brandon Westerling, the Red Priestess. Something seems off there :P

It's been ages since I've done anything GoT-related :O I still haven't seen S2, let alone S3. I heard the thing about Jeyne and thought it was an odd choice. When that episode aired, my Facebook feed went nuts. Way more so than my Twitter feed. I didn't realise I had so many friends who haven't read the books. Of all my friends who watch the show, I only have one who (doesn't read the books) and was only too happy with the episode. He told me that it was about time something like this happened. Something about everyone being too happy. He's a bit difficult to please :sweatdrop:

As a Tyrion fan, I like that they are showing him as insecure and kinda fucked up, too. I was starting to get a bit worried he'd be all flawless, joke cracking always on top Tyrion, but seeing him have to humble down at times is great.

I just have great love for the cast. Everyone's so good.

Thought S3 was awesome, another faithful adaptation while changing things up to surprise the book readers. They have done such a good job so far of adapting the fiction, cutting things out to make it better for a TV setting as well as add new stuff. Trying to remember what happens in the second half of A Storm of Swords now and what will go in S4!

Haha, was the Iron Throne uncomfortable enough?

Finished season three just now. Have to say I liked S3 and it's changes a lot more than S2. They've done a great job with the writing.
Also I'm trying hard to remember what was in Book 3 that they still need to tell. RW must have been such a shock to my brain, that I forgot what came afterwords or put it into Book 4 in my mind.
Just a quick question about TheonIs the storyline around him from ADWD (I haven't read that yet) or did they make it up for the show? While reading the books I never thought he was dead anyway. Also seing Yara setting out to get him back, was a big surprise

EDIT: Fuck, I just remembered there is the character Reek in the book, that's Theon????

The answer to your edit question is YES, but it's different from the show. There was another before him with the same name, and then he "inherited" the name. I think that's a vague enough description of it  ...And I hope I got it right lol.

Other than that I'm the same as you. I can't remember what happened after RW
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: Tuffty on June 17, 2013, 12:16:00 AM
Haha, was the Iron Throne uncomfortable enough?

Actually it was surprisingly comfortable! Maybe I was born for it

Shi's got it spot on regarding Reek. As I recall....Ramsey had a personal servant called Reek. He was a bit of a nutcase, never washing or bathing, almost as renowned for his cruelty as Ramsey and it was rumoured he even had a penchant for necrophilia. Ramsey found him interesting in that regard and he used him for his own entertainment as the pair of them went on hunts together, raping and killing girls mainly. The pair were hunted down themselves and Ramsey had the idea of disguising himself as Reek and vice versa. He told Reek to run and the guards killed Reek. Ramsey, in disguise at this point, is captured and taken back to Winterfell. When Theon sacks Winterfell he finds him and depends on him for information, even accepting the idea to fake the deaths of Bran and Rickon. Then Theon lets him go to get support from men elsewhere and that's the worst thing that he did considering that Ramsey then revealed himself to his own forces and they in turn, sacked Winterfell and torched it to the ground. And that's when Ramsey decides to torture Theon, flaying and subjecting him to physical and mental torture in an effort to break him and substitute him to the Reek that he had lost. So yes, Reek in ADWD is revealed as Theon.

Obviously the above never happened in the TV show so they basically took shortcuts. It's smart how they handled it and no less effective.

I'm trying to remember the second half of ASOS myself. I can remember the following:

*MASSIVE ASOS AND PROBABLY SEASON 4 SPOILERS AHOY. BOOK READERS ONLY*

- Balon Greyjoy's death,(or assassination, I can't remember it being confirmed)
- Joffrey's Wedding
- Jaime's return as Command of the Kingsguard
- Tyrion's trial
- The arrival of Mace Tyrell and the Martell family from Dorne
- Oberyn Martell (Red Viper) vs The Mountain
- Wildlings march on the wall
- Stannis marches north to join the fight
- Jon is made Commander of Night's Watch
- Bran, Jojen and Meera meet with Coldhands
- Sansa escapes with Littlefinger to the Vale
- Arya roams the wilds with the Hound
- The reveal at the end of the book of Lady Stoneheart
- Dany..........?????

So there's still a good bit left to show. It's after that where my memory gets hazy, especially around the events in AFFC.

^ Nice! What did you think of it? Personally considered it to be the weakest book in the series.

Mark Gatiss (Doctor Who, Sherlock) is confirmed in S4 (http://insidetv.ew.com/2013/07/17/game-of-thrones-sherlock/). No idea what role he's cast as though and they haven't said anything. I imagine they will announce more at the Comic Con panel this Friday. The only person I could think of is...Mace Tyrell

I was thinking if Richard Madden (Robb) was in the panel, he should absolutely come out on stage wearing a giant direwolf head. :nervous
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: Hart on July 17, 2013, 09:43:15 PM
I agree it was the weakest book of the series so far. Not because of some characters missing. Though I did enjoy Cersei's gradual downfall into madness

If "Robb" does come out with a direwolf head, I'd expect a few people laughing (Lannister supporters and trolls), enraged fans (Stark supporters), and people who just don't care waiting for the next panel.

Who Mark Gatiss will be cast as? Mace Tyrell might be a good guess. What about one of the Greyjoys? Crow's Eye or Victarion? Doubt it would be one of the Martells. Maybe one of the other Commanders of the Night's Watch (I forget who)?

Just came back from the cinema where I attended a free preview screening of the first two episodes from season three, that will premiere on digi cable tv in two weeks (yeah, we're that far behind)
It was super awesome, nothing beats watching GoT on a 6,5m x 15,5m screen!!!!
They could have notched up the sound a bit, but when the title song started playing I got shivers, that song and animation gets me everytime.
When Brienne knocked over Jamie on the bridge the crowd cheered XD
Also Tyrion got a lot of laughs and love as expected.
It's going to be hard to watch GoT on my small tv, now that I've seen an epic show in the epic size it deserves.

This is very true, but while Daario's casting is still rumoured (albeit all but confirmed), the Mountain recasting is true, making it the third actor to play the role. Bit crazy that it would happen. Still, the new Mountain certainly looks the part! :o I wouldn't be too sad if Daario was recasted to be honest. The other guy was just like in every scene he was in he was ACTING his HEART out. Reports here: http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/game-thrones-recasts-mountain-season-620111 (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/live-feed/game-thrones-recasts-mountain-season-620111)

Speaking as a Tyrion fan, this season will be the most heartbreaking one yet! :( It'll only be more and more painful from now

I hope they give Sansa focus because this is when she really starts to shine on her own!

I knew I forgot I had to do something important to finish by April. Got sidetracked after reading the first 300 pages. About 600 more to go through.

While April hasn't come yet, only 6 more days until the Season 3 blu-ray/dvd boxset is released. Still have yet to pick up the Map of Westeros 4D puzzle....

Short excerpt from the sixth book "The Winds of Winter"

Quote
Somewhere off in the far distance, a dying man was screaming for his mother. “To horse!” a man was yelling in Ghiscari, in the next camp to the north of the Second Sons. “To horse! To horse!” High and shrill, his voice carried a long way in the morning air, far beyond his own encampment. Tyrion knew just enough Ghiscari to understand the words, but the fear in his voice would have been plain in any tongue. I know how he feels.
.

You’ll be able to read the entire Tyrion chapter this month in an update to the George R.R. Martin’s A World of Ice and Fire app. Download the app from iTunes or Google Play

Well I'll ask this here... Is there any place to read the new Tyrion sample chapter from Winds of Winter that was released on an app (a world of ice and fire?) other than the app?? I mean first of all I didn't even find the app when I looked on my phone and secondly, it's massive in size and my phone doesn't have much space so yeah.

...

I tried googling, but I couldn't find it >_> Halp?

On GRRM's blog he said he's gonna post a new sample chapter (http://grrm.livejournal.com/361577.html) named "Mercy" up on his website.

In other news, I sorta got my dad interested in Game of Thrones after he saw me marathon-ing the first two season on blu-ray. (Still need to get the Season 3 boxset though) Had to explain a lot of stuff he didn't see and whatever he didn't understand. Might lend him the DVDs if he's still interested. Doubt he would want to read the books. I could show him the photos I took from the exhibition last year.

(http://i.imgur.com/Hl6ocpZl.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/tyFIufsl.jpg) (http://i.imgur.com/cEM6SOpl.jpg)

Wish I could leave it out for as long as I can or try to buy a glass box to keep it inside. I'm leaving it out on display until Season 4 ends. Then it's back into it's box until next year.

Overall, the puzzle was challenging. Well the first layer was challenging. Lots of pieces that are almost identical and fit in the wrong places. Especially the border pieces. The provided reference map can be small to read for some. Even some of the printed rivers and towns can be hard to read. Unless you have good lighting a lot of the pieces will look alike, mostly the dark blue pieces representing bodies of water. As for the second layer, unless you want to permanently display the puzzle don't use the double-sided stickers that come inside the box. Also be careful when setting the landmarks into the foam puzzle pieces. You might accidentally tear whatever is glued on those foam pieces if you use too much force. I suggest using scissors, side-cutters, or a pair of clippers to cut out the remaining plastic pieces and if necessary a craft knife/hobby knife to shave any excess plastic so they won't damage the first two layers.

Can't wait for the Season 4 premiere. Watched all 3 seasons back-to-back, mostly with my dad. Note to self: Never let my dad explain the show to anyone. If I hadn't seen the show or read all the books he would've told me everything; from every plot twist, cliffhanger, and character death.  :smhid  Also....he knows nothing if he thinks he figured out how it will end, assuming the "good guys" will win.

Almost done with ADWD. Just 50 mores pages to go. Still think ASOS as my favorite of the books.

EDIT: Finally finished ADWD!!!!  :twothumbs  Now the wait for TWOW begins..... Hope those sample chapters are worth the wait.

I agree that "Two Swords" makes a great start to Season 4. Just a bit sad to see where those 'two swords' were made from.  Ice.....

Nice introduction to the Red Viper. Don't know about the replacement for Roz. (Do we really need a new TV character, even though he already was introduced last season?)

Still on the fence for the new Daario. Do like the intricate artwork on Jamie's new hand.

I really don't care for that show. They play too fine a line between discussing the books and the TV show that it doesn't really satisfy either. They're not coy about book spoilers either it's like

"Do we think Olenna poisoned Joffrey? Well we really couldn't say..."

Either you go all out and discuss the books or keep it within TV pace discussion and talk about the information you were only told from the show. You can't throw book spoilers in there, pretending it's somePlus, the presenters are pretty annoying. Can't put my finger on it, they just are XD

The wedding was wonderfully tense. I actually felt really sad as it focused on Sansa during the mock war of the five kings. Purple Wedding reaction videos have a whole different tone than the Red Wedding

I'm just most curious of all to see *FUTURE BOOK SPOILERS* how Balon gets killed. If I remember, it was just mentioned by another character as he was just swept away in some storm with some vague illusions of a faceless man being the killer.[/spoiler] Also, Bran's vision in the show seemed to throw in a couple of hints on what could happen yet. That was definately a dragon flying over Kings Landing. That was also Snow (or was it ash) over the Iron Throne?

1. I too am curious about how the show runners are gonna deal with that. Didn't he "fall off" from one of the suspended bridges between the towers
2. I think that was snow. Probably a reference to when Dany entered the House of the Undying in Season 2.

Is it wrong for me to say that I'm gonna miss seeing Joffrey on screen? Who else is good enough for me to hate from now on?

Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: Tuffty on April 22, 2014, 08:21:12 PM
Soooooooooooooooooo. That Jaime/Cersei rape scene huh? Causing a bit of a controversy on the internet. Not because an incestuous couple are having intimate relations next to their dead son's corpse, but of the very act itself which goes against how it was described in the books where it was slightly more consensual. GRRM himself came out to speak out about it. (http://grrm.livejournal.com/367116.html?thread=19030284#t19030284)

Some are questioning was it rape or not, referring to the fact that one shot had Cersei kiss him back at one point. But to me it's definately rape. Cersei said "Not here" which basically says she didn't give her consent to do it there. With Jaime forcing her to have sex there against her wishes, means he raped her. The kiss is irrelevant considering it was said before she was protesting as she laid on her back. She wasn't clawing at his eyes or anything to get away but even so, it's obviously non consensual sex.

To take a real world scenario, if a guy is kissing a girl, eventually building up to something more but then she gives him clear signs that she does not want to have sex with him at that moment, I really hope the guy wouldn't force yourself on her just because she kissed him back. That would not be OK for obvious reasons.

From the sounds of it, it was a bad editing job. It was supposedly a longer scene which could have clarified things. They could have added some of Cersei's lines from the books which were cut which shows she was giving consent. Or a shot of Cersei maybe taking back control somehow to show she was equally into it. Or a simple line of dialogue like "Hurry up". The fact that we're debating about what happened shows the direction of this scene wasn't clear and wasn't very well done. It just goes against Jaime's character, who's always been against rape. Hell he lost a hand to defend Brienne from going through it. So to have him do it on the one woman he loves more than anyone else is just so out of character.

Back on topic, Dany sounds well sexy when she's speaking in Valyrian right?

What else is there to talk about?
Podrick's unwavering loyalty to Tyrion?
Oberyn and Ellaria's orgy at the brothel, including male-Ros (Does he even have a name  :?)?

Another fantastic episode. That trial scene is right up there as one of the best the show's done.

On that subject, just what is the best scene in your opinion? I know there are other that are probably better directed, have more character development etc but I loved the scene where Ser Barristan is relieved of his post and walks out. When I read the books I really liked the character of Ser Barristan and when I read this scene in the books it reinforced the fact that good people get screwed over in this world and Barristan is a good man screwed over for the Lannister's own gain. Of course Ser Barristan is faced with the news while surrounded with some of the biggest twats the books have produced (Joffrey, Cersei, Littlefinger, Pycellel Meryn Trant, Janos Slynt) who are all looking on and acting smug and then Barristan draws his sword out and everyone is on edge, some are terrified and you just wish Barristan would let go and take one out at least, please for the love of the R'hllor take somebody out.

^ That's a great one! I still like the Viserys getting molten gold crown scene. 'He wasn't a dragon. Fire cannot kill a dragon.' I was like daaaaamn. lol Although in general my favorite parts are usually Tyrion, Bron and their one liners.

I finally caught up and watched all season 4 episodes so far! The last episode was certainly one of the best. Prince Oberyn(?) I'm starting to like more, he really doesn't seem to like Lanisters.

And I gotta say Tyrion going off at the end was amazing.
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones
Post by: Hart on May 13, 2014, 11:39:10 PM
Both of those scenes are indeed some of the best the series has offered. I think another great scene was also back in Season One where Dany had to eat that raw horse heart in Vaes Dothrak. Lots of things going on there besides Dany being awesome. You get to see Drogo's emotions played out just by his facial expressions. Viserys realizing he's losing control of his sister. Jorah's admiration and probably growing love towards Dany.

Another great scene was during the Battle of Blackwater Bay with Sansa calming the women down after Cersei left. I thought that was a great moment for Sansa after everything that has happened to her up to then. I expect to see more development for her in the future.

Still have yet to watch the latest episode. Can't believe we're halfway through with this season.  :(

This show tho, ugh, it's gotten to the point where I skip unnecessary boob scenes cuz I know there's no importance to them. Just fucking fanboy service. I don't care about some guy giving a monologue while surrounded by naked women. God. This show doesn't even crack my top 10 favourite shows because of this unnecessary shit of male gaze and rape. When they threatened even Meera with it I was so close to just stopping watching cuz I'm just so fucking done with this fucking show constantly adding more shit like this that isn't even in the books, which are dark enough on their own. I'm only hanging on for my bb Tyrion and Sansa now - I just love Peter Dinklage and Sophie Turner & their performances too much. They even ruined Jaime by having him rape Cersei (and then later act like nothing happened! Because 'no' means 'yes' and Cersei probably 'deserved' it, right!) Seriously this fucking show has become such a disappointment and I'm not even really proud of saying that I watch it anymore because of everything that's wrong with it.

Aside from the boobs overexposure (in the beginning I found it funny, now I find it sad) I also have to say they play "Rains of Castamere" far too often.
But I still love the show.

As a book reader I was quite surprised by how shocked I was at that horrific, gruesome death. The screams made it about 10x worse. I felt as uncomfortable watching it as I was with the Red Wedding. Funny to see people's reactions on Youtube shift so suddenly  Shouts out to Pedro Pascal btw, who played Oberyn so brilliantly.

I prefer this version

In the books I didn't feel a real connection with Oberyn. When he died I was more concerned for the consequences this would have for Tyrion, than sad/shocked about the characters death. But Pedro Pascal did such a great job with Oberyn, it made it so much more worse, that I knew what was coming.

I read so much whining about episode 9 right now, it's unbelievable. What are people expecting? This is still a tv show and for that this was amazing! So many extras, the fighting, that longshot over Castle Black during the battle, Mammoths and giants for crying out loud!!!
Most are misunderstanding, that this was not the great attack on the Wall but rather a test (Jon says so himself!!!) to check out their defenses.

One episode left  :(

Spoilers from the finale yeah,

They really did mess up Tyrion's storyline there. Tyrion, towards the end of this part in his story, was supposed to have become a monster. He wasn't supposed to hug Jaime goodbye; Tyrion was supposed to be left feeling that he really has nothing, no family. His murdering of Shae was not supposed to be in self-defense and he was not supposed to say he was sorry after. He was supposed to find out the truth about Tysha and that should have been his reason to ultimately confront his father, and kill him. He was supposed to hit the absolute rock bottom.

Instead he got a nice huggy bye bye from his bro, had to kill Shae because otherwise she would've killed him omg! and only killed Tywin for general cuntness and allowing him to be sentenced to death. Now little TV Tyrion is bummed out, but not nearly the monster that he became in the books, and I'M DISAPPOINTED. "But shirenu, why would you want your favourite character to become a horrible monster, to the extent that a ton of book readers even grew to hate him towards the end of ADWD?" Because I have a hunch that his story in the books got to the lowest possible point because it makes it possible for him to rise back up again and have a truly satisfying ending to his story (whether he lives or dies). TV Tyrion is so fucking soft and sheltered, anything he does from now will just be continuation to his previous ~awesomeness~ with just some added melancholy from having killed Shae and Tywin. But he won't be a monster who will have to work hard to become respectable again, D&D won't allow it.

I really don't think D&D understand some of these characters very well sigh. Tyrion is not supposed to be always loved, all his actions are not supposed to be defensible. Tyrion is not supposed to be a perfect 'outsider' for the audience to bond with. He's supposed to sometimes FALL HARD, just like all other characters. But D&D have made him so flawless and neckbeard fantasy jerk off wank party -like that he will only keep drifting further and further away from the complex Tyrion I know and love from the books.

I'm also bummed for Peter Dinklage because he SO would have been AMAZING doing a monstrous Tyrion. Can you imagine if he had choked Shae out of bitterness and anger?? That would've been fucking epic. I was prepared to feel like shit (in a good way) after the finale, but instead I felt like... That's IT? Those scenes were supposed to fucking destroy me and they did not even come close. Fucking hell.

Like I don't even mind details being changed as long as the emotional impact is the same. But this was just meh.

So yup, that was a rant. I've been toying with the idea of no longer watching this show, but it's so fucking hyped that I'll probably be drawn in again. Siggghhhhhh
Title: Re: A Game of Thrones

The finale was definately the biggest 'No we're doing this our way' direction that the show has gone. I did not think we would reach the finale and have Balon still live, Jojen killed and completely caught up to where Bran and Sansa are at the end of ADWD.

The Tyrion scenes were pretty surprising at what they changed. I thought the brotherly love throughout this season between Jaime and Tyrion would have come to a head after Jaime reveals about Tysha. Which then puts Tyrion at rock bottom thinking he's completely alone if his own brother betrayed him, which then led to him telling Jaime about Cersei fucking Lancel, which then puts a wedge in that relationship further on down the road...

I think the TV show has put more of a focus on Tyrion/Shae rather than Tyrion/Tysha (I think she's only been mentioned in Season 1?) so I guess that's why the Jaime revelation about her was cut. And perhaps why Tyrion was weeping as he choked Shae because in the show he genuinely loves her and to the TV audience, that's all he knows. As book readers we've had the benefit of reading Tyrion's inner thoughts as all this happens and we know he still has feelings for Tysha throughout the books, but the show just handled it differently. No better, no worse, it's just different. It would be weird for the audience to see Tyrion get so worked up over a character they've not seen before and rarely mentioned by him until now.

I do think from this point onwards the show will do it's own thing and maybe deviate quite a bit from AFFC and ADWD other than some main plot points. Considering that Stoneheart and Coldhands didn't show in this season at all, I wonder if they're kept back for another season (like with Jojen and Meera) or if they're not going to feature at all? I say that considering that D&D are the only ones who know how this all ends and so maybe they are just cutting out anything that won't be hugely relevant to the plot? Who knows. I do think that they're the best editors that GRRM has had though!

Interesting deviation from the books

*A Dance With Dragons Spoilers Ahead*

By making Dany the one Varys is supporting and not Griff. Some seem to think that because the producers know what the ending is, then they know that Griff isn't Aegon after all, hence why he's not introduced here. Some even suggest that the producers have done a switcheroo and made Rhaenys the new heir instead. I think the solution is just that they cut out Griff's character and merged his role for Dany's in order to make it easier for a TV audience to follow rather than introduce a new character. They've already done it with certain characters e.g. Bronn training Jaimi instead of Ilyn Payne.

Really liked the first episode! Quite the change to see...

*MASSIVE A Dance With Dragon Spoilers!*

Mance being killed seeing as he doesn't die in the books. Makes me wonder how that whole storyline now plays out and what changes it will make for Theon, Ramsey, Fake Arya etc. I have a feeling that either Tormund goes in Mance's place or somehow Theon has a moment of realisation and tries to escape himself along with Fake Arya. Or perhaps the Battle Of Winterfell happens and he escapes during it? Point is something must put this chain of events into place otherwise Ramsey doesn't send a letter to the Wall and Jon doesn't get stabbed. On second thought...maybe that's a good thing!

Glad to have the season back. I know already what my favourite scene from this season of GOT will be. When it happens, I'm going to quote this and let you know.

There are going to be so many differences to the book from this season onward.
On one side it is a good Thing, seeing as the series overtakes the books but then I'm going to be sad, when they leave out Events and characters I have been waiting to see.

I wonder what we get to see of Tyrions journey?
After the first Trailers I was a Little afraid he would tumble out of that box right onto Dany's doorstep, but luckily that was avoided.

Anyone else think the Sand Snakes scene was one of the worst in the series? Don't remember them being all that engaging from the books either. Poor Barristan too, one of my favourite characters. I don't think he had nearly enough screen time and I wished for a grander send off. But it is Game of Thrones and we don't always get what we want for our heroes. I just feel the response from the audience was 'Meh' when he died, when he really should be remembered more fondly which I don't think the show did a terrific job with.

At least there was Melisandre boobs.

Can someone provide juz what is changing from the book and the tv? It's getting confusing for us mortal people here... :P

Quite a few things thus far! Off the top of my head

*BOOK SPOILERS AND POTENTIALLY LATER EPISODE/SEASON SPOILERS*

- Sansa never marries Ramsey. At the end of the last book, she's promised off to another character not seen in the show in order to secure the North. Ramsey does marry a 'fake Arya' however, someone from Winterfell that Roose and Ramsey have instructed to pass off as Arya. This is in an attempt to secure the North as well.
- Barristan and Mance Rayder don't die in the books. Mance is tasked by Jon to carry out an important mission to save the real Arya (who believes she's at Winterfell) and Barristan is even made a POV character as he provides assistance to Dany and leads an army to battle.
- Brienne and Podrick never find Arya or Sansa and instead go off to the Riverlands in a pointless quest to find Sansa when we, the reader, knows she's at the Eyrie.
- Loras isn't arrested. Instead Cersei plants lies to the Faith Militant which accuses Margaery of infidelity and sleeping with her handmaidens.
- Varys doesn't escape with Tyrion. Tyrion instead is on a boat with new characters on the way to Mereen which could have huge significance for Westeros (but I won't spoil)
- Jaime and Bronn don't go to Dorne. Bronn is never heard from again, living out his life as a knight whereas Jaime is sent to Riverrun to try and secure peace.
- Arya is pretty much similar except Jaqen J'qhar  isn't the one teaching her.
- It's not Ellaria who wants to gain vengeance for Oberyn. Instead, it's a new character Arianne. Also there are more Sand Snakes, about 5 I think.
- There's a whole other story involving the Greyjoy family. Theon's uncles, as they try to gain leadership of the family and conquer Westeros as one sails out to try and woo over Daenerys.

There's probably a whole lot more I'm forgetting, but those are the main points.

I don't even know what to expect anymore, between the new and changed storylines. Honestly, I just want to see the stories for Jon and Brienne to turn out like the books. Some of the other changes aren't a big deal to me, though. But I'm starting to confuse the show and book in my mind, so I'm thinking about a re-read of ADWD at least.

The tv and book continuity is completely mashed in my head, especially since I've already forgotten so much that happened in the books.

A friend of mine read all five books over the course of the last year and sometimes would tell me about it and I was more often then not "uh oh yeah, there was that, i've completely forgotten about this XD"

I wonder if we'll ever see anyone from the Greyjoys again apart from Theon.

Yo how fucking sick was the latest episode?! I was in chills the moment the music kicked in as people ran to the boats. Then you've the shot of the four horsemen on the hill, the one shot where Jon runs to the hut to get the Dragonglass, Wun Wun bursting through the hut, that moment of surprise on Jon and the White Walker when Longclaw deflects the blow, Jon cutting through the White Walker into pieces, the wight children, the wights jumping off the cliff, Night King raising his army in total silence!!!!! AHHHHHH!!

It was probably one of the best episodes of the show. Not just for that, but Lena Headley and Sophie Turner were on point as Cersei and Sansa and those wonderful interactions with Tyrion and Dany. Something tells me that was our Episode 9 because I really just can't imagine the next two episodes topping that. Realistically I think they'll have the fighting pits and possibly what happens with Jon at the Wall. They're telegraphing who's going to do it pretty heavily in the show. I just dont see the Battle of Winterfell happening. Would love to be proved wrong! I hope Ramsey gets his against Stannis. He defeated the Greyjoys at sea, what's 20 of Ramsey's men to him? Surely he'll have scouts and all?! Oh who knows, two episodes left, let's just enjoy the ride!

Absolutely loved it.  Best episode yet, and I completely agree with everything you said.  I'm suddenly much more scared of the undead army.  (Before it was like, "whatever, Winter is coming, blah blah".)  But now I'm really scared for all of Westeros if they don't get their shit together.

I also loved seeing Arya be a secret agent faceless girl.  She's the best character, and I hope we get to see her doing more badass things soon.

Easily the most epic episode in Got (maybe all tv). crazy.

I'm kinda baffled how they got enough money to even produce something so high quality for a weekly tv show. In a high-budget movie, maybe. But man, that bill must have a pretty long string of numbers.
The extras, CG, and action. I'm glad they pulled it off so perfectly, I'm not even going to ask how anymore... they must have some magicians for staff or something. :thumbup

Snow vs white walker.
I don't even remember seeing when Snow first got that sword from Jeor Mormont. So count me doubly surprised.

Yeah it was a bit odd seeing them so close to the coast still haha. Who will get more hated at the end of the series Ramsey or Ollie?
.
Interestingly, the title of the last episode is Mother's Mercy. Maybe we will see LSH? I read a cool prediction around it from someone else. Basically, Battle of Winterfell happens and Ramsay gets killed. Winterfell is seiged. Roose goes on the loose with a handful of bodyguards and does a runner outside and through the forest. Last scene of the show, Roose is through the forest when they're suddenly attacked. Roose is left standing and captured. Camera pans over and it's Thoros of Myr. Says a few words. Camera pans over more, the hood is pulled back from a figure. It's LSH. She commands Roose's execution. Would be dope and certainly falls into the words from Podrick's actor that Episode 10 will 'break the internet'. Though the more likely event is that it will end the same way as ADWD does.

God dammit. God fucking dammit Stannis WHY?! It was extremely difficult to watch that scene. And it sounds like it happens in the books too. Can't imagine how, Shireen is still at the Wall after all, so I imagine Selyse and Melisandre burn her without Stannis knowledge or consent? Or maybe Stannis does turn towards it. I dunno, I think in the books at least that decision will have the time to grow and we see how that decision was made. Bit of a difference in here considering the decision to burn his daughter alive was made within an episode.

Gonna be a book purist for once and say I wish the pit played out more like in the books. I dunno, there's something cooler about Drogon just being lured to the pit because of all the blood and people there and wreaking shit up rather than just conveniently swoop in like a Final Fantasy summon to save the day. The scene on TV itself was a bit weird, the choreography again wasn't great and there were moments in that fight sequence I found hard to accept. Like, really you have them all outnumbered right in the middle of the pit, and you don't all attack at once? Daenerys walks away from everyone, including her bodyguards and you don't attack her?  So yeah, I wish it could have been better but even so, I still enjoyed it. If that makes sense XD

I really can't stand how they're portraying Ramsay as an experienced tactician. FFS, he practically burned half of Stannis camp with 20 men. May as well take 40 and march straight to Kings Landing to take it over. I hope Dorne isn't finished like it was so neatly wrapped up here. Not that I have any real love for the story in the books either, but it  just feels like there's zero consequences. I hope episode 10 has Doran reveal that he has a plot to overthrow Tommen so Myrcella and Trystane are king and queen. That would be nice. Otherwise it's a waste of Jaime's character this season. Probably the biggest disappointment of the season for me.

The finale's coming! The actors of Davos and Podrick says it will break the internet. Emilia Clarke says "Reaction videos are incoming". Judging from it though, there could be a lot of shit that goes down, so much that it might be hard to fit it all in! I mean we could have *SPOILERS* Battle of Winterfell, Sansa fleeing Winterfell (maybe), whatver Brienne and Podrick chooses to do, Dany fleeing with Drogon, Cersei's trial, Robert Strong reveal, the shit that goes down at Castle Black, what Tyrion, Jorah and all do after last episode, Arya killing Meryn Trant. In one episode! If Davos dies, then I revolt.

^ You're right, the fighting pit scene was a little sketchy at times. I mean, the damned Unsullied weren't much good, were they? They were getting steamrolled by the Harpies, a bunch of uppity civilians.

And hey, how about that Bran?

No LSH will be the biggest disappointment, though. Even more so than if Olly goes and gets up in shit.

Iwan Rheon discusses how he wants Ramsey to leave the series:

I’d love see him meet a spectacular end – God knows he deserves it. And it’s something that could happen at any time. That’s the nature of the show – no-one’s really safe. That said, I’ve just bought myself a flat in London so I hope that day doesn’t come too soon. […] But that day is definitely coming, no mistake about it – and I hope that when it does it’s epic, nasty and preferably dragon-related. He needs to go out with the bang.

Yes, Iwan. We too want to see your character die in epicness by being burned alive, body all thrown around, ripped into pieces, and then nomnomnom'd by dragons.
In a loving way of course. :)

Actually. Looking at all Ramsey has done, compared to all the other characters in the show, he's actually a pretty good guy.
