On one hand, the thought of eating horse meat seems kinda gross... On the other hand, cheap delicious meatballs... Dilemma, thy name is Ikea

horse-meat is a delicacy.

The Regulations for an horse-butcher are high. Already at birth is decided, wich one will get there and its whole live, every medicament and food is documented.

In munich only three horse-butchers have survived. And they have prices :D

I don't want to know, what pigs and cows get injected and feeded. And nobody has a problem with eating that.

The problem with people is - horses are seen more as pets these days.

And speaking of meatballs - think clearly which meat is used for these :D The trash they can't use for steaks or other highpriced products ;)

It's not the fact that horsemeat is gross, it's more the deceit that people hate.

The problem was never the horse meat. The problem is they were advertised as made of one and contained another kind of meat. Also, some people find eating horse meat disgusting as they don't consider horses a source of food. In the past, horse meat was considered the food of the food so maybe that's where the problem is grounded - in the mentality of people.

Who the fuck goes shopping for furniture and thinks, "Gee, you know know what would be good right now in this store?  Some food."

I mean, you still have to spend hours assembling their future with their shit instructions, who has time to eat?

It's true, though, even the in the US, Ikea has a cafe where you can eat a "real" meal.

Honestly, even as a horse person, I don't find it that bad. I mean, it's absolutely wrong to advertise the food as something it isn't. But had they advertised it as meatballs containing horse meat, for me, it wouldn't be a huge problem. A lot of other Swedes surely would, though. Horses just aren't seen as a source of food in Sweden, really, so every time something like this happens, it becomes a big deal.

But IKEA immediately took the meatballs off the shelves? Makes it even less of a problem, imo. They obviously didn't want it that way.

I think there's definitely a social stigma about eating horse (which is maybe why the headline leads with the most "shocking" portion).  But yeah, the main problem is that the meat wasn't what they said it was.

A lot of people go to Ikea to completely furnish a new home or apartment, you'll find a ton of newlyweds.  It isn't ridiculous to have a cafeteria if you expect people to spend several hours in your store.
