It's gone!  It's 715!

All-time left-handed HR hitter in MLB history!

"715": Aaron or Bonds?
« Reply #23 on: May 29, 2006, 10:54:44 PM »
It's kind of ironic that Bonds is marketing the "715" number for himself.  I still associate that number with Henry Aaron, Al Downing and Atlanta in 1974, and I'll bet that a lot of serious baseball fans feel the same way.

As he chases Aaron, there will be little or no fanfare ... he little coverage over 716 and has a sore left side.

WOW....this is crazy. The 2 writers who wrote Game of Shadows may go to jail now :o

They need to testify...man, this is a joke. Bonds alleging about roids is really worth all this trouble? Not like it was the Pentagon Papers.

No way in hell.

There's always the possibility that they're pussies but REAL journalists have principles.  I suspect they'll protect their sources.

Indeed they did. Indeed they did. Now they face 18 months of prison for real. Just hearing this on ESPN Radio.

Two San Francisco Chronicle reporters were sentenced to a maximum 18 months in prison Thursday for refusing to testify about who leaked them secret grand jury testimony from Barry Bonds and other star athletes.

Very unfortunate.  And a mad, crazy precedence.

I mean, did anyone go to jail for reporting Watergate?  Iran-Contra?  Nine Fucking Eleven?  Of course, not -- not in America, anyway.

I say: they won't spend a day in jail.  Freedom of the press is, indeed free.

What happened to the whistleblowers? Talking off-the record? It's crazy. They're appealing but it's nuts. My jaw dropped hearing this news.

it's not unusual for journalists to be jailed in the US: Judith Miller spent a decent proportion of last year in jail for refusing to reveal who leaked the name of Valerie Plame to her, for example.  the journos are getting jailed not for reporting, but for refusing to reveal the name of the source who leaked the info to them.

given that leaking from a Grand Jury is a federal offence in teh US, punishable by serious jail time, it's no surprise that the authorities want to know who the journos got their info from. of course, it would be better if there was a federal shield law in the US - a law to protect journos from having to reveal their sources - but, again, given that no country (to my knowledge) has such a law, it's hardly surprising that US goivts have refused for the past 30 odd years to pass such a law.
