Had things gone differently, Peter Capaldi could have played the Doctor instead of Paul McGann all the way back in 1996...

Peter Capaldi has revealed that he turned down the chance to audition for the role of the Doctor back in 1996.

Speaking at a London event celebrating next week’s launch of Doctor Who Series 8 on DVD, Capaldi told interviewer Frank Skinner and an audience of fans:

“I knew I wouldn’t get it. I loved the show so much that I didn’t want to have anything to do with it unless it was going to be me. I didn’t want to have the disappointment and go through all the palaver of jumping through hoops for something that I would never get. Because I knew it was an American pilot, and I knew they would go for somebody who was well-known - which Paul was, and he was fantastic. So I didn’t go along for the audition. I said to my agent ‘Thank you very much, but I don’t want to go along.’”

Upon learning this fact, Skinner quipped “Think of the amount of Big Finish you would’ve done by now!”

It’s unlikely that an eighth Doctor played by Peter Capaldi would have reversed the fortunes of the doomed pilot - Paul McGann’s portrayal of the role is considered to be one of the film’s few saving graces - but it’s fascinating to think that somewhere out there in a parallel universe there’s an episode of Doctor Who in which Peter Capaldi’s Doctor snogs Daphne Ashbrook against a tree and rides a motorcycle through San Francisco. And who knows - perhaps in that same universe Paul McGann is busy launching the DVD for his acclaimed first series as the twelfth Doctor...

Just a bad joke from my end. Since they didn't use the simpler 'chicken and the egg' as an example in the explanation or the episode.

Definitely not some sciency theory challenge thing. My brain fries just from the steps of making grilled cheese.

Clara Oswald's last episode in season9 ep10.
Honestly Clara is easily my favourite Dr Who companion. Loved the character straight from the first moment she showed up in Asylum of the Daleks. Thx Jenna Coleman!
