The year is flying by and it's already time to start thinking about our new calendar!  :panic:  XD

I could only find one AKB48 related calendar at the moment, but the others are bound to show up really soon. I'll update this post as new info becomes available.

Is it just me or are the calendars really late in being announced this year?

I hope they do another Takamina one as it would be my first giant-ass calendar purchase... otherwise, I guess I'll get a general AKB one. I like the 2011 Calendar Box one that I have.

I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to just make a group calender (and perhaps a small handful of front girl solos) this year. Like, perhaps they found having so many solo calendars doesn't work out to much profit due to popularity of different members or them not being snapped up in the same way singles are?

D: Unless the idea is to announce them really late so they're bought quickly, or perhaps there'll be some sort of 7/11 collaboration??

My money is on a store collaboration as well... I think they are not going with the Try-X LTD Calendars this year, but that they'll offer some exclusively through 7net shipping or some other store. The fans will buy them anyway and they can make an extra profit trough the collaboration deal.

Either way, it sucks that we don't know anything at this moment  :lol:

According to that, there'll be one calendar featuring one girl per week (planned to go on sale late October) and one calendar for each of the 19 senbatsu members (planned to go on sale early November).

edit: pretty evil stuff actually.

1. The normal idol calendar is B2 and costs 2300 yen. These ones are a bit cheaper, but a lot smaller. So they are bound to save some money there.
2. The single page B2 ones for all members are 50% the price of a normal calendar, but you only get 12.5% the pages! That's a pretty crappy deal.
3. It's gonna be super tempting to get multiple B2 ones... especially now that every member gets one.  I.E. spend more than you normally would.

It's all so evil it's genius  :lol:

I'm happy to see Mariko's getting a calendar this time round, I wanted to buy one last year but since she didn't release one I didn't decide on one and it never happened- however... this year, I think I'm leaning mostly towards a soon to be MM graduate's calendar! :panic:

In random order, my favorites include:
- Fujie Reina: nice smile, nice thighs
- Nakamura Mariko: pose, pretty cute overall
- Nagao Mariya: cheeky
- Sashihara Rino: a bit out of the box, a bit naughty.. lol
- Sumire Sato: very nice smile, but she is sitting on nothing! looks awkward.

Best ones imo:
- Iwasa Misaki: BAM, woah
- Itano Tomomi: great pose, killer expression
- Watanabe Mayu: if you can dig the epic hat

I'm not really digging the ones from my top favorites...
Aw well. There are still the 30x30 ones to look forward to.

Ahh, these are quite nice, the outfits are cute and while I was a bit annoyed by the blank white backgrounds I can see that keeps it uniform and tidy~

For teams A, K, and B- could these be the outfits from the team song PVs? I'm just thinking that due to Mayuyu having the awesome hat and the outfits all seem very themed like you could picture them in a PV for that team... :P

I hope the 30x30 calendars will have different photos and not these blank studio ones. Pictures like that can get boring really quickly. I'd prefer some nice outdoor pics, or something from a more colorful or energetic photoshoot like the calendars we got the previous years.

Actually, those costumes are their team song costumes from Koko ni Ita Koto album (Team A's is Overtake costume, Team K is Boku ni Dekiru Koto, Team B is Renai Circus, Team 4 is High School Days)

That's still a stand-in pic. That photo's from the last box calendar.

I'm pretty sure they're not reusing pics from that shoot since iirc Yuko mentioned on her blog that she was shooting the AKB calendar.

The key to a nice calendar (and photos) is eye contact. If they look you in the eye, the picture will stay entertaining for much longer.
Haruna, Yuko and Mayu don't have this, which makes them less appealing to me. Surely, Yuko's shot is very pretty, but it will never have the staying power as Rie's, for example.

Like:
- Classy; no bikini stuff, no overly awkward stuff
- I like how they filled the 'empty spaces' with smaller pictures or went with 4 pics per page
- I absolutely love Rena's bonus page (with the big white hat) and the golf-cart one is sorta nice, because she looks cute in pink.

I don't like:
- Re-hashed pics from the trading cards
- Not feeling Rena in these particular sport settings. It's so impersonal. The orange basketball clashes with the pink outfit.
- These calendars are big, so if you have a big close-up on the girl's face it's gonna look super huge.

If I'm totally honest, I think J's calendar is a lot better than Rena's. She's having more fun with the themes and she's just better at poses and expressions. Much more variety. Luckily, idol purchases are made by the heart and not by the brain, so Rena's it is!  :lol:

I like Rena's more than J's... The way all the pictures are just in squares one after another looks too... Harsh. I don't know the world I'm looking for. XD Where as Rena's are scattered around and look really pretty. ^^ Love the outfits in both. :)

I think they are both nice. Rena's calendar is the only one I ended up buying this year. Very unlikely I'll get much else unless those Tokyo Date calendars are just epic of the 10th power. I might get Sasshi's, if so.

I waited and waited for the yen to drop... it kept rising. Today was slightly better than last week, but in the end it doesn't matter because Paypal uses their own evil exchange rates  :oops: It's almost criminal. Seriously, if you consider EVERY payment on eBay is done through Paypal and Paypal strikes up a couple of cents extra through exchange rate only (not even including their fees), they are making MILLIONS a day. My package have been at customs since Dec 2nd.... I was filling the form to get it outta there, but they didn't have a friggin' code for a calendar ~_~ I need to make a call about it, but I can't do that before Thursday. *sigh* THIS IS TORTURE!

edit: Managed to make the call today, so hopefully the package arrives tomorrow or Friday  :prayers:

I got my calendars todaaaay!

Takamina's Tokyo Date calendar is ridiculously adorable. I mean... seriously cute.
The Tokyo Date calendars are about the size of standard US calendars, btw. And they can be hung on the wall or put up on a stand thing.

The Box calendar is cute, too. I like the pics a bit better this year, I think. I love the Takamina x Sae page, which I have dubbed the bromance page.  :lol:

It's here!! Funny enough, this is actually the first ever AKB48 related calendar I bought  :lol:

After months of deciding I decided against Rena's for the reasons posted earlier. I opted for the Cheer up! Box instead:

Winner and others already took fancy pictures of the box' contents, but I'll show you what I did.

After careful considering I decided to take the calendar apart. That's a big deal for me  :lol:
The calendar is relatively small and I couldn't think of a good way to hang it.
The size actually worked out very nicely for some poster strips I had lying around, so I did this:

Really nice mix between cute and sexy. I am loving the Mayu/Acchan page.
Actually, I prefer it over the sexy kitty ear one, so I hang it closer to my face. lol
Btw, the paper and print quality is insanely good. Almost plastic-like.

And I took my favorite page and clearfile and framed it.
The best thing is, I don't even feel I 'betrayed' Rena by getting this box instead, because she's in it (even a bikini shot  :shocked:) and I can show her off better like this  :lol:

The other clearfiles are AWESOME. I'm not sure what to do with them, but they are really cool.
The Tomochin one actually has her full body shot, the pic we see in the preview is only half of what you get.

I tried hanging the poster, but since it's folded it doesn't look that good in the poster strips I use. I decided to leave it in the box and look at it occasionally, like I do with all my folded posters. The fan's pretty nice and I think I'll use some of those stickers on my guitars  XD

Comes with A4-size clear folder (12 pieces), a sticker, a card for landing page of cell-phone, and an application card (valid only in Japan). Calendar spec: A3, 7 pages, two-monthly.

I have one of the solo poster calendars on the way, and need a practical way to hang it on my wall. Frame or poster hanger work, I just want something cheap & readily available to Americans. Anyone with protips? :cokecat:
