Title: OVER-RATED!
Post by: THUNDERDUCK on November 26, 2006, 05:40:36 AM
The sports world is very fickle.  Sometimes, the public likes a team for no apparent reason.  The polls may favor someone all the time.  You may simply just hate them.  Time to list those teams or people that you think are just Over-rated.

T.O.

Admittedly, I haven't had too much exposure to him, but for all the publicity he's had, what I've seen hasn't impressed me AT ALL.

Mike Vick

A terrible passer who gets so much hype for his running ability. I simply can't stand him, his hype and his attitude.

Randy Moss. The guy can't catch a pass to save his life this year, and just like his tenure in Minnesota, he claims that he's just not happy. I guess all those millions of dollars aren't doing it for him. What a jackass. Admittedly, the Raiders are in a sorry state this year, but for chrissakes, just shut up and do your job, Randy. At least when Tiki bitches, he produces.

If there's any MMA fans out there, some will probably disagree with me. But I say Brandon Vera.

good thread to voice your opinion!
I think Mika Hakkenien was over rated and so is Alonso. Even Montoya had more calibre than him.
I agree Kevin Garnet sucks.
So is O J Simpson, Mike Tyson and the complete English Cricket team (well off late they are not over rated ..... coz they have been getting all the slagging they deserve!! :D)

Michael Ballack. You'd think with a £100,000 weekly wage, he would need to be worth every penny. From the looks of it though, that sort of wage gives an excuse to play sluggishly. Shevchenko is at least making some form of improvement, Ballack is just lazy.

Agree with Ballack, and I'll add more Chelsea players -

Fat Lampard.
He's actually a decent player but just extremely over-rated. Looks good banging in goals for Chelsea because everybody else does the dirty work for him. Doesn't tackle, one-paced, questionable passing skills and does nothing for his forwards, I really have trouble thinking that somehow this guy came runner-up in the European player of the year award.

Obi Mikel
Not really sure that anyone actually rates him, and again a fairly decent player but little do people recogise that he's actually a whooping 17 million pound signing (4 Mill. to Lyn, 13 Mi to us) because of the way the Chelsea tapped him up, that's more than the money paid to get Ronaldo and Robben and as much as we paid for RVN when he first arrived.

And finally, Defoe.
I am a hater and always will be when he handed in a transfer request 48 hours after West Ham was relegated. He has shown as much loyalty as Paul Ince had shown, and that's not much at all. He talks himself up but his scoring record is actually very oridinary who does very little apart from trying to score (unlike Rooney, Saha or last year's Drogba who either hold up ball if create linkage between midfield and attack). I was horrified when we were linked to him, thank God nothing happened.

She may not be effective as a striker, but she a great frontline destroyer that hacks anything and anyone in her way (friend or foe).  ;D

I'm not really much of a fan of Defoe myself but actually his scoring record isn't bad at all. Most over-rated? Remember the name: Wayne Rooney!

Rooney has scored 14 goals with 11 assist this season in the premiership (23 all comps), and has 16 and 10 last season. And what makes him special is the work he does off the ball, he frequently plays in the midfield, linking up play, he can hold up ball because he has a huge backside. And he also has a huge engine and is willing to track back to help defending.

Overated? Maybe if people think he's Pele. Because is there actually a better in-and-out striker in the history of English football players? You pretty much have to dragged out the 66 team.

Andy Roddick used to be really overrated. Back in 2005 and early 2006 after he lost wimbledon to Federer. The US media loved to over publicize him, especially for the US Open 2005. Then he lost first round. Recently, with picking up Jim Connors as a coach, he's been a whole lot better, and has developed his net game. However, compared to his 2003-4 era, the 2005 and early 2006 Roddick was definitely overrated.

True, which isn't a bad record. I'm not saying he's rubbish, I'm saying he's over-rated. Just like Fat Frank.

Wow. He can be on my team any day. If age does not come into play, I'll take him over anyone else thats currently in the league.

I think Rio Ferdinand In Manchester United is overrated. people say he's one of the best defenders but compared to Nesta, cannavaro, Terry etc he just isn't as good. He has been better this year with Vidic on his side but without Vidic he's just nu good enough to make the back line look strong.
