This little snippet is so morbid and depressing.
Blame it on the ghost stories that I got told a couple of days ago.
(I also got slapped for the first time a few days ago. I'm not sure I deserved it. ><)
Anyways... Hm... anything else I need to add before I post...
Um, I found $.75 in my pocket today.
Annnnnnd... I think that's it.
Enjoy.
Or cry.
Or, (in the case of Loser87) throw things at me. ^_^
Interlude IV: Munasawagi ScarletIt was raining again.
The storm had been raging outside for the last couple of nights or so, and each time, the poor girl would find herself wide awake in her bed, trembling uncontrollably. She let out a quiet squeak as a clap of thunder ripped through the silence, and she had a tight grip on the bear that she was sleeping with.
She had actually decided to give up bringing dolls with her to bed a few days after her thirteenth birthday, but never managed to break the habit, and with everything that had been happening lately…
Lightning streaked across the sky outside her window, and she pulled the covers up over her head. She wanted to go and sleep in her parents’ room, but the idea of walking through the dark hallway to get there was much too frightening.
She had good reasons to be afraid.
She was the only member of Berryz Koubou that was still alive, after all.
The Captain had gone first. She and the others had gotten the phone call from the agency that informed them of Saki’s absence: Apparently she had stayed after school to finish up some project alone, and had never come home. Some bum found her body in a dumpster a few days later.
Momoko took the news very hard, and also seemed to be morbidly afraid that the Berryz were going to meet the same fate as Morning Musume.
“I’m not going to let them get me…” she had informed everyone in an eerie sort of tone. She took care of things for herself.
Chinami and Miyabi had been beaten to death. Risako didn’t know if she’d ever get over seeing the image of her friends’ broken bodies...
Maasa’s lunch had been poisoned by someone, and even though she was rushed to the hospital, there wasn’t much they could do for her. It wasn’t a type of poison that the doctors were familiar with…
She had seen Yurina just the day before. Just yesterday morning. They had met to talk and cry and the older girl had tried to comfort her and tell her that everything was going to be alright. She disappeared for a few hours after going to the store for her parents, and was found at the side of the river, with a frayed rope tied around her neck. Her attackers had apparently attached a rather large rock at the other end and had tossed her in with it, causing Yurina to drown.
And so, she was next.
She had to be, because there wasn’t anyone else left.
It was almost enough to paralyze the young girl with fright. Risako timidly poked her head out of the covers again, just as lightning raced through the skies outside again, illuminating her room for a few brief seconds. It was then that she noticed something standing in one of the corners.
A statue of some woman with great gargoyle like wings that were folded up against her back. The woman had long claws and glowing red eyes that were eerily focused in Risako’s direction. At first she was just annoyed. Her parents were kind of weird in the furniture and old antiques they used to decorate the house, but this was a little over the top.
If they wanted crazy stuff, fine. They just needed to keep it out of her room. She didn’t even remember them buying something so atrocious…
The poor girl sighed, laying her head back on her pillow. Now that she was aware of the statue’s presence, she was never going to get to sleep. And then she saw something that chilled her blood and sent shivers down her spine.
The statue blinked.
Before she could react, before she could even scream, the thing was on top of her.
…She didn’t even have a chance.
