Yep she has divorced her husband. New that for some time now when my mom was watching her Japanese News Station one morening and woke me up to tell me that.

Just because they have divorced, doesn't mean it's over.

Hell, her parents have divorced and re-married each other 6 or 7 times now.
(probably just for the honeymoon sex)

Her divorce did come as a shock, but she married at what - 19? And never appeared to be very close to Kiriya in these 4.5 years. YMMWTBAM was only hinting such things.

Yesterday, on March 2nd, I, Utada Hikaru, and Kiriya Kazuaki, officially divorced.

To all the people who have supported us until now, we would like to thank you very much. Our apologies for surprising you with the short notice.

We believe that both of us have learned so much and grown up with the 4-year and a half marriage.

While we mutually keep changing, a perception gap on the direction of the future and concept of marriage has gradually emerged between us. Another big reason is the lack of communication in our life, passing each other while both are working internationally.

"Though divorce is a pity, it was good that we have met each other" - that is what we talked. As a creator and a dear friend, we hope we can continue watching the growth of each other.

I am looking forward to following Kiriya-kun's career in the future.

This is to let you know that yesterday I, Kiriya Kazuaki, and Utada Hikaru divorced. Until now I have shared a lot of things with Hikaru and created various kinds of things together. Those are wonderful, treasured memories. However, we think that we were not able to emotionally depend on each other to the end, keeping severity, rigors and loneliness of creation in each other's heart. Though we came to this conclusion, I sincerely appreciate it that I met Hikaru and spent very happy times together. I am very much concerned about Hikaru's well-being.

I truly would like to thank all the people who have supported us until now. I hope you will continue supporting Hikaru and her music in the future.

Her new single is great~ I was actually pleasantly surprised!

Hikki had been kind of so-so to me lately, but I'm loving this new one.

That sucks to hear about her divorce, although personally, I thought she was way too young to be married already anyway

IT'S ALL OVER HER FREAKING MUSIC. Even if you cant understand Japanese, read the translated stuff. It was so damn obvious. And the Exodus albums probably topped it all off nicely. Even in Ultra Blue it still had sad lyrics, and her happy stuff just really sounded like she wanted to have fun...with someone else.
When I saw the making of Passion, her husband was tehre to direct it. And there was absolutely no chemistry in my opnion.

Does it make me sound like a witch to be so happy when i found out the day after my birthday? Hell, I'll admit, it was probably a really awesome thing to happen on my birthday. Every time I watched her together with him, even when I wasnt such a big fan, I could tell she wasn't happy. Even in interviews.

Now, I just hope she's doing okay, even if they didn't have strong feelings for each other, it still must be hard. Either way, I'm just glad that she has room now to find someone else. I expect happier music smile.gif *even though I effing love her metaphoric ballads*
