Profile
BAND-MAID® is a girls-rock band from Tokyo that formed in July 2013. - Official Website (http://bandmaid.tokyo/profile)

After their initial formation as a four-piece in July 2013, vocalist Saiki joined in August of that year. The group performed as a five-piece for the first time at the SHIBUYA-AX "P Festival" on 22 August 2013. The group's image is modeled on the outfits worn by Tokyo's Maid Café hostesses. In interviews, the band explains the concept came from founding member Miku who had previously worked at the NOODOL Cafe in Akihabara.

Since their formation, BAND-MAID has regularly performed live at various venues around the Tokyo area. The group released their debut album "MAID IN JAPAN" in January 2014, written in collaboration with Platinum Passport-affiliated musicians Masahiko Fukui and Kentaro Akutsu (the latter formerly also of musical group ZERO).

In August 2014, BAND-MAID released the Maxi Single 愛と情熱のマタドール (Matador of Love and Passion?); in December 2015 they released their sophomore record New Beginning. Thee band undertook a tour of Tokyo venues to promote the album through February 2016, culminating in a sold-out concert on 14 February. - Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BAND-MAID)

I would love to see one of their shows some days. But so far their schedule always conflicted with idol shows
I have to admit, that I didn't get me their album yet.
I find it strange though, that especially overseas they are viewed as some special case, like as if "women and rock music" don't mix. What century are we living again?

I guess this might seem weird to foreigners since there may or may not be that many female rock bands in their country or exposure to them is low, but Japan has so many female bands. There have been female rock bands or females that do rock music in Japan for years. I mean I live in America and Puffy had their own cartoon here and they were two Japanese women that did rock music. So even then, while I can understand people not being familiar with female rock, I don't see why some people think this is a new thing. Also, I kind of face palm at how some people internationally react to the fact that they're dressed as maids. :smhid

Whoot... saw earlier today they're coming to Sakura-con in Seattle. The con site recently updated, saying they will be coming.
I was wondering who they were bringing and when they were going to announce, its only a month away.
This is going to be an awesome year. Going to see MM16 at the end of the month, Sakura-con next month, Miku Hatsune in April, and Babymetal in July. And we just hit Feb.

Back on topic, I have been checking out BandMaid's videos for a while and so far they are fucking awesome.

At MCM Comic Con. I've never been but someone said to me it would be far too if they performed at Hyper Japan.

The dates are 27-29 May.

Apparently they will do a live, a Q+A, and signings.

Must say it's probably the album I have listed the most to this year, and I realized that Saiki is what is really making this group great.

I want Saiki to serve coffee and cake at my funeral.

I was quite disappointed with the new album, although this is one the few highlights imo.

But 'Alone' makes me really look forward to what they are capable of in the future.

Completely disagree, I think this is one of my least favorite songs on the album, ("non-fiction days" is by far my favorite) overall I think this album is better than the last one.

Personally my favorites on this album are "non-fiction days" and "alone" all the other songs kind of don't really do it for me.Although I'm kind of on the fence with "Yuragu" and "Before Yesterday".

Thinking of attending the Hamburg one. Will stay away from the VIP thingy. These are no idols and I won't probably see them soon anyway.

^We will see. Even though I know lot of people who would argue that Poland is in fact in Central Europe :-P

I will probably go to the Warsaw concert with friend. I hope we won't be there all alone

Probably the same as in the rest of Europe, and I think they are playing pretty small places anyway (at least the place in Hamburg seemed quite small).

Yes, "You Only Live Once"

Same, it's not bad but it's kinda bland.

I became a fan of BAND MAID after seeing them live. I just recently imported their album "Brand New Maid". So far, ORDER is my favorite song. I liked alone, the non-fiction days, FREEDOM, YURAGU and Before Yesterday too!

Can't deny that it rocks. A bit simplistic, esp. the wowowo-chorus.

Concerning writing credits on the new album; the lion's share of the songs (9/13) are composed by the band themselves with Miku providing lyrics for 10 songs and Saiki being a co-writer on 3 of them. A remarkable turnaround from being a poppy 'cover band' into a self-produced hardrock force in such a small time I'd say.
